Richter slowly paced down the main path that lead through Veros. The smattering of rain upon the rooftops of the nearby buildings and an occasional rumble of distant thunder were the only sounds to be heard within the sleeping village.
His clothes and hair were already soaked, but at least Alucard's cloak kept him warm enough to be unbothered by it. He had been awake for nearly two hours already but the images from his lucid nightmare still crept into his conscience like a traumatic event he wished to forget.
He shook his head and tried to will the memories away so that he could focus on the task at hand. Desperate to follow his new lead on Alucard undeterred, he had passed himself off as a traveling mercenary to the local leader. After pretending to negotiate he had agreed to follow up on the baker's story about a strange man. Fortunately he was only required to report back if there was any genuine cause for concern.
Richter had even accepted a very small payment for the task just to make the agreement seem more believable. After all, he didn't want the villagers to over-react, and even if they didn't the church almost certainly would.
When a brilliant streak of lightening danced through the clouds in the distant sky, Richter's eyes fell upon a great ruined house just over the horizon. The large mansion sat alone atop a high hill, looming over the surrounding peaceful hamlet like a monument to some long-forgotten evil.
"That must be where the girl saw him. It doesn't look too far..."
Even from where he was standing, Richter could tell that the house had been abandoned for many years and fallen into decay.
With nothing else to go on but the strange story of a little girl, the hunter followed his instincts and began to make his way down the path that lead towards the foreboding structure on the hill.

Alucard had abandoned all efforts to resume his slumber. Instead, he paced around the room as the early morning sun pieced the clouds of the waning storm outside. The frustration had become increasingly uncomfortable and his now sweaty long hair clung to his opaque face.
"Why can I not move past this?"
In the past Alucard had been lured out of his slumber during significant events such as the arrival of a powerful demonic presence or a great magical disturbance. In most cases such circumstances had foreshadowed his father's return to the continent. Less frequently, the dhampir had also been drawn from his sleep by human's dabbling in great mystical forces they could not fully control or comprehend.
But there had been no sign of night creatures, no hint of powerful magic at work, and no indications of a great spiritual or demonic disturbances. The only immediate threat to the innocent was mankind's routine squabbles over territory, money, and politics- which Alucard had stopped caring about long ago.
He paused to stand in front of the large window. The curtain of darkness that had blanketed the room had begun to fade as the soft, orange glow of dawn illuminated the ornate window. It seemed the raging storm outside had finally passed.
Craving the taste of fresh blood, the dhampir lifted his arm and bit into his own wrist. Even though he had done this before to calm himself, he felt weak for having to resort to such measures.
Alucard's eyelids fluttered closed as he swallowed the crimson fluid. The taste of his own blood was not enough to calm his nerves entirely, but it did allow him to somewhat regain his composure. On the outside he had always been a creature of cold calculation; never warm and only rarely passionate.
Over the course of his long lonely life, he had learned to completely suppress his emotions whenever necessary. In more recent days however, a single mortal had managed to turn his entire world upside down. With only a few exceptions, no one had ever stirred such strong emotions within him.
"Trevor... Sypha... Maria... Father... Mother..."
Throughout the past few centuries there had been a few more humans Alucard had grown found of as well, but none of them had preoccupied him for long after they had parted ways. But his thoughts about Richter Belmont placed the vampire hunter in a unique category of his own.
"He pursues me even after our last encounter," the half-blood sighed. "Even afterward... I am still obsessed."
Alucard knew his sexual episode with the mortal had been the result of unrestrained lust on his part. Throughout his life he had experienced similar urges before, but he had been able to move on once his body was satisfied. Now however, he found himself wanting to hear Richter's voice or even just hold the hunter's face in his gaze. And then, of course, there was also the hunter's unique scent- that tantalizing aroma which Alucard had found far too enticing to resist.
As if kneeling in prayer, he slowly slumped down onto his knees in front of the stained glass window.
"Mother... given everything that has happened, what would you tell me now?"
Alucard's few memories of his human mother, Lisa, had been his most cherished and closely guarded thoughts. Even though she had been gone for centuries the dhampir could still remember her soft features and soothing voice in vivid detail.
For many decades after her passing he had spoken to her; confessing his inner-most thoughts and sins as if she were present to comfort him. The possibility that she could hear him, even if she could not respond, used to bring Alucard a small measure of peace. For the first time in a great many years, he felt a need for that peace.
"Mother," he repeated, closing his eyes. "I am helpless."
"Helpless?" asked a familiar, male voice.
Richter's eyes met the dhampir's startled stare as he stepped into the room.
Alucard remained still; watching the mortal like a gargoyle from its perch. The sunlight from the window made Richter's fair skin faintly glow and gave the damp, brown tresses that framed his handsome face a pleasant shine. Had it not been for the black cape draped over his body, Alucard would have described the vampire hunter as angelic.
"Alucard?" Belmont began again softly, "What could possibly cause you to feel helpless?"
The half-blood's stare lowered from Richter's face as he pondered possible explanations.
"It does not matter. It would appear that I face a situation in which I will suffer regardless of the outcome."
"I myself now suffer the curse of the Belmont bloodline," Richter responded sadly. "But often when people suffer for so long for the sake of others, eventually some of them simply have enough and become selfish. They change their fate and finally start to live for themselves."
The statement provoked the dhampir to look up and meet the hunter's gaze again.
Richter slowly stepped through the dimly-lit room to stand beside the dhampir. During their past few meetings he had seen new cracks form in Alucard's cool exterior. Based on his honed instincts and judging by what he had just overheard, he reasoned that Alucard's internal struggle had deepened.
"Live for themselves?" Alucard stood up and tilted his head curiously.
"Yes- A soldier returns from war and leaves the battlefield forever to start a family," the hunter explained. "Or an explorer sets foot on new a new land and never graces the sea again."
"Perhaps too dramatic," Richter added. "But even Trevor and Sypha found life after Dracula- they may have become outcasts, like me, but they still found meaning in their lives together and lived for themselves."
Alucard raised an eyebrow in response but said nothing. The reaction gave Belmont reason to pause and shake his head. He could not tell if the pale man was taking him seriously or merely amused by his psychological meanderings. He decided to try a more practical explanation.
"To put it another way- if you really feel damned by this dilemma you speak of, maybe it is time for you to be selfish. I myself did my part to be the savior of my people, so why should I let them decide for me that I should live out my days in misery?"
The dhampir held up his hands in front of his face and considered his answer. He studied his own pale fingertips as and began to speak.
"To better understand my trouble, Richter, I must first address what happened before we last parted ways..."
"When I lost consciousness after we..." The hunter interrupted but stopped mid-sentence. He was suddenly unsure of how he should actually describe his last encounter with the other man. Frustrated when the words did not come, he decided it may be best to speak with actions instead.
Alucard remained still as Richter drew closer to him. He was tempted to look away; to avoid the depths of the mortal's eyes that had complicated his life, but instead he forced his gaze to remain fixated.
"No apology can undo what happened," the half-blood offered coldly. "I lost control when we last met, and nothing I say now will excuse my behavior."
Belmont circled the dhampir and stopped behind him. He removed the cape from his frame and carefully draped it over Alucard's shoulders. He bent his body forward, bringing his chest against the half-blood's back as he adjusted the black fabric.
"You left this behind; Allow me to put it back in its rightful place. It belongs on the shoulders of Adrian Fahrenheit Tepes..."
Alucard's body tensed when Richter leaned against him. Their sudden closeness and the other man's mention of his formal name made it no easier to focus.
"And no apology is necessary," Belmont added as he leaned over one of the dhampir's shoulders.
Richter paused to consider his next move; the tedious chase that had gone on between them had run its course, and he knew that he may never have another such opportunity to be speak honestly to the other man. Part of him still feared that Alucard would push him away or even flee once again, but it was a risk he was willing to accept.
"I remember what happened," Richter said seriously. "I think of it day and night- but I do not regret it… to be honest I..."
Alucard turned around and took hold of the mortal's hands before the sentence could be finished. He slowly removed them from his shoulders but did not let go.
"You what? Felt pity for me?" he growled. "Say it, Belmont; Speak the truth."
A few moments of silence added tension between them before Richter barely managed to find his voice.
"I liked it..." he breathed. "I needed everything about it... about you..."
Though the mortal's words had not been entirely coherent, the message itself was clear enough and left the half-blood nearly speechless.
Richter's gloved hands trembled in Alucard's grip. The dhampir could sense the younger man's fear- fear that he would be rejected or perhaps even ridiculed. Never had a man seemed so afraid to him as Richter did now. The unmasked vulnerability gracing that youthful face finally crumbled the last of Alucard's restraint.
I cannot just dismiss him. If I am truly damned regardless of the outcome why continue to deprive myself?
"Richter…" he whispered, his voice barely audible.
The sound of Richter's own name fell upon human's ears like a whisper lost in the wind. Alucard's voice was so quiet that he wasn't even sure he had actually heard it at all. The sudden, soft touch of cool fingertips gently stroking his cheek however, finally gave him the courage to look the half-blood in the eyes again.
Alucard could sense the hunter's nervousness. The sound of Richter's heart racing like a broken clock ticking out of control echoed in his sensitive ears. He gently swept aside several of the chestnut locks that framed the mortal's face and marveled once more at the youthful beauty.
Belmont's breath quickened as the dhampir's lips and drew closer to his own. His cheeks burned as an obvious blush darkened his normally fair skin. His mind began to race; daring to ponder what could be about to happen.
Alucard felt the human's body stiffen when he finally brought their lips together. Unlike their previous encounter, he kissed the hunter slowly and gently, purposefully taking his time to savor every moment of it.
Richter's eyelids fluttered closed and his lips parted. Any second thoughts that entered his mind were quickly pushed aside and forgotten. The creature that had haunted his dreams was finally within arm's reach again. His body relaxed and melted against the dhampir when he felt those hands move from his face to gently rest on the back of his neck. He gripped at the folds of Alucard's cape, clutching at the soft fabric as their lips finally parted.
The taste of Richter's lips made Alucard's own heart begin to race. Now part of him wanted to ravish the willing mortal and take him in the same frenzied fashion that he had before.
No… he reasoned silently. He would not do that to Richter; the mortal had earned far more from him than mere physical gratification.
Alucard moved a hand to the back of Richter's head. He slowly ran his fingers through the younger man's damp hair as he contemplated what had just transpired.
"We should leave this place, Richter."
With his will alone, Alucard conjured forth a brilliant column of white light around them. He closed his eyes, and through magical means whisked both himself and Belmont away.
When the light faded and the shadows returned the room was once again left lifeless and silent.

WARNING – SEXUAL CONTENT
Richter winced as the late afternoon sunlight stung his weary eyes. He struggled to keep his heavy eyelids open and tossed about on the bed beneath him.
As his surroundings finally came into focus, he noticed he was once again in his room at the inn. It was then he realized he was still almost fully clothed, though for some reason he could not recall when he had removed his coat, boots, and gloves.
"Richter?" a familiar voice called out for him. "Are you finally awake?"
Startled, Belmont quickly sat up. His body stiffened and his glassy blue eyes widened.
The dhampir fought to keep a rare smile from twisting his lips and loomed over the bed. Despite his best efforts however, he grinned noticeably at the sight of Richter's reaction.
"Alucard...?" The hunter managed with disbelief at the sight of the half-blood. "What happened? Why are you here?!"
The dhampir lifted an eyebrow. "Why am I here? Do you not remember?"
Again Richter could not find his words and simply stared at the other man. At the moment he found it difficult to separate reality from imagination.
"I brought you here from the crumbling mansion. Did you honestly forget?"
Richter shook his head. Even though the haze had begun to lift, he was still having difficulty finding his voice.
"I… I remember," he struggled, "I thought that it had been a nightmare."
Alucard sat on the edge of the bed near Richter.
"A nightmare?" the dhampir grumbled. "Is that the impression you were left with?"
"No, but does that mean..."
Richter struggled to fish for confirmation. He decided it would be best to just allow himself potential embarrassment for the sake of being entirely certain.
"You... kissed me?"
Alucard nodded. "Yes."
Richter fidgeted with the sheets beneath him.
"And then you held me?"
"Correct. Does that now bother you?"
Perhaps a bit too enthusiastically, Richter shook his head to dismiss the question.
"Of course it does not bother me. But why? It seems, so..."
The hunter paused to reorganize his words. "No. You seem... different."
Alucard exhaled deeply and dropped down onto the bed. His back now rested on the hunter's legs and he felt them twitch through the blanket beneath him. He glanced up and noticed the younger man staring down at him with a look of puzzlement.
"I have accepted the fact that your importance can no longer be ignored, Richter."
With his mouth agape and his eyes wide, Belmont now appeared even more bewildered. It was clear to Alucard that his answer would not suffice.
"I speak of your importance to me. I can no longer ignore it. Be it trivial banter or carnal pleasures- I crave your presence when you are not near. I obsess over you, and often I cannot fully understand it myself."
Richter slowly pulled his legs out from beneath Alucard and slipped out of the bed. He felt his cheeks warm as he wondered how the dhampir may have handled him while he was unconscious.
"I am searching for answers as well," he admitted. "But for once I feel I may be closer to an answer than you."
Alucard lifted his head off of the bed to study the man standing over him. He could feel the hunter's eyes on him.
Richter scratched the back of his head and began to fidget with his own hair. "Alucard, there is something I want to know, but to understand it I must ask a favor..."
"A favor? What do you wish from me?"
The hunter swallowed to steady his voice. "Will you remain still and let me... touch you?"
Alucard's thoughts immediately scattered into a thousand different directions when he heard the unexpected request. He knew Richter had no ill intentions, and after forcing his lust upon the human recently he felt he owed the hunter a few concessions.
He closed his eyes and let the back of his head fall onto the bed. "I trust you Richter. I will allow it."
Belmont bent down to get a much closer look at the dhampir. He took in every detail of the nearly white face framed by thick locks of the palest blond hair. There was no hint of facial hair on Alucard's slender chin or anywhere on his smooth, unmarred neck.
The suspense truly tested Alucard; He could feel the warmth of Richter's breath against him and hear the sound of the human's heartbeat reverberating in his ears. Even the hunter's scent had changed into a delightful new aroma. A few long moments later when Richter finally touched him it nearly sent him into sensory overload. The soft, gentle caress on his cheek by those warm fingertips forced a gasp from his lips.
Encouraged by the soft sound, Richter knelt down onto the bed and brought his knees to flank the half-blood's thighs. He moved his hands to cradle the sides of Alucard's head and brought their lips together. He kissed the dhampir slowly and gently, pausing every few moments to gauge the reaction. Much to his delight, the face between his palms had now taken on a noticeable pink coloration.
Completely swept away in the moment, Alucard began to kiss the hunter back. He became so lost in the slow dance of their lips that he hadn't realized Richter's hands had moved to undo the clasps of his cape. It wasn't until his coat had been pushed open and his shirt unbuttoned that Alucard took notice and pulled his lips away.
"What are you doing?" he huffed.
Richter ignored the question and moved his lips to the newly exposed flesh.
"You agreed to remain still," he whispered and began to kiss the smooth skin.
Alucard had to fight the urge to writhe about on the mattress when he felt the other man's warm mouth on his bare chest. With his upper body now totally exposed and vulnerable to Richter's whims, an entirely new kind of desire overtook him. Allowing the human full control over what was happening had ignited something within that moved the dhampir in new and exciting ways.
Richter marveled at the smooth perfection of Alucard's slim athletic body. His fingers moved from the subtle contours of the half-blood's chest to his firm belly. His eyes then wandered lower until they fell upon very obvious evidence of Alucard's arousal. The tight black leather pants left little to the imagination and made it apparent to Richter that his exploration had been to the dhampir's liking.
The hunter slowly withdrew and straightened his back to pull off his own shirt and toss it aside. A shiver ran down his spine when Alucard stared up at him. The half-blood's eyes had retained their golden color, but appeared glazed-over and heavy with desire. It was the first time he had ever seen such an expression on the other man's face.
Alucard abandoned his promise to remain still and sat up. This time he eagerly met the hunter's lips with his own and wound his arms around the shirtless man on top of him. He had been too distracted by their passionate kiss to realize the front of his leather pants had been unfastened and opened.
Startled, Alucard broke the kiss and bit his lower lip as he watched the hunter nudge the tight garment down his thighs. He hissed when his trapped, erect manhood was freed and fully exposed to the cool air of the room.
Craving the feeling of the half-blood's cool skin against his own warm body, Richter brought their bare chests together. Their bodies breathed deeply in unison as both men became lost in their excitement. With the dhampir still distracted, Richter discretely slid down his own trousers to free his aching cock.
Alucard blinked and stifled a harsh cry when he felt something very warm suddenly touch his penis. When he looked down his breath quickened at the sight of Richer holding their hard, sensitive lengths against each other.
"Shhhh..." Richter whispered before kissing the dhampir tenderly on the cheek. He then began to stroke their rigid cocks together, groaning in delight at the feeling of Alucard's throbbing hardness rubbing against his own. It did not take much stimulation to push the half-blood over his limit.
Alucard tossed his head back and brought a hand to his lips to subdue his cries as he came. The intense wave of pleasure was so hot, sudden, and jarring that he barely managed to refrain from screaming.
Belmont closed his eyes and shivered when he felt the other man's warm essence splash between them and drip down his belly. With a forceful jolt of his hips and a final tug of his hand he followed the dhampir over the edge a few moments later.
"Aaa... Alucard..." he huffed. Richter's breath became frantic as he came all over the dhampir's chest and abdomen.
When the blissful rush of climax had subsided they both fell back onto the bed and laid next to each-other.
Several minutes went by and neither man made a move or said a word. Eventually, Richter found his strength again and stood up to fully rid himself of his trousers. Now naked, he rummaged through his few personal belongings and retrieved a small washcloth. He made his way to the small table near the door and grabbed the pitcher of water that he found there. A shy smile stretched his lips when he caught sight of the dhampir watching him dampen the cloth and use it to briskly wipe down his own body.
"It seems we made quite a mess together," Richter said. He walked back to the bed and brought the wet fabric to the half-blood's bare skin.
Alucard could not help but feel a little uncomfortable as Richter gently wiped the head of his of his now flaccid penis clean. He had never willingly allowed another such open access to his body. There was something about Belmont that invited his trust- Something that made him actually want throw caution into the wind and lower the walls surrounding his soul.
After cleaning the last traces of their spent passion from Alucard's body, Richter began to pull the half-blood's pants back up.
"No," Alucard said sharply. He sat up and grabbed the vampire hunter firmly by the wrist. "You may undress me as well; Let us face each-other equally."
"Y-Yes..."
The dhampir swallowed the dry lump in his throat and laid back down as Richter undressed him. The mortal wasted little time ridding him of his cape, boots, and coat. Finally his pants and shirt were fully removed with minimal assistance and he was left completely bare to the human. With not a thread remaining to cover either of them, Alucard felt his breath quicken again. What he now felt wasn't lust; it was pure exhilaration. The sensation was so new and so unfamiliar to him that it made his stomach flutter and his heart race.
Richter laid down on the bed watched the half-blood's pale chest rise and fall with each heavy breath.
"Are you alright?" he asked softly.
Alucard closed his eyes and willed his body to relax.
"I am fine."
Belmont moved closer until they were both laying on their backs directly next to each-other. He gently rested the side of his head on Alucard's shoulder and closed his eyes. He said nothing and just allowed himself to live in the moment and savor the closeness of the dhampir.
Guided by instinct alone, Alucard lowered his to head to nuzzle Richter's hair. The feeling of the chestnut strands against his face felt remarkably smooth and reminded him of silk and fine furs.
"I granted your favor," he finally said. "Did it help you find answers?"
Richter opened his eyes and looked up. Their faces were so close that he could feel the dhampir's cool breath on his lips.
"Well- You are here now- with me, like this... But..."
"But?"
"But what happens tomorrow?" Richter finished.
The half-blood turned his head to gaze up at the ceiling.
"I do not know," he sighed. "What do you want to happen?"
Sensing uncertainty in the older man's voice, Richter reached down and gently took hold of the half-blood's hand.
"We've both become outcasts," he replied, "and I don't want us to be apart yet. I've also gotten tired of hunting you."
"So, because you are now an outcast you will settle for a shunned soul such as myself?"
"No," Richter snapped. "It's true you are the son of my family's nemesis. It's also true you are only half human... and male- But none of that matters. You represent much of what was forbidden to me; perhaps that is what I find so attractive? Still... there is also something else..."
Alucard raised an eyebrow. "Something else?"
"Yes" Richter answered. "If we remain together I think you will understand what it is soon enough."
Richter released Alucard's hand and gently grabbed him by the jaw. He slowly pulled the half-blood's mouth open and leaned in closer to inspect his teeth.
"But I am curious about something," he explained. "You have fangs but they appear smaller than I remember- certainly smaller than your father's..."
Alucard rolled his eyes and swatted the hunter's hand away. "I am half human so of course they are smaller. They do, however, become more noticeable when I feel an overwhelming urge to feed..."
"I understand," Richter smirked. "So is that what happened when you bit me and seduced me in the cave?"
"Pardon?" Alucard tensed and found himself at a loss for words when he heard the question. Fortunately when Richter began to laugh a few moments later it put him at ease. "You offered and I merely accepted. If anything, Belmont, you tempted me."
"I suppose that's fair," Richter continued in a more serious tone, "but I meant to ask if you are capable of turning another into a vampire?"
"No," Alucard answered sternly. "In comparison to my father and the very few true vampires who remain, many of my abilities are limited. I cannot revive someone as a vampire- But even if I could I would not. To force one into such a cursed existence so suddenly would be irresponsible and cruel."
Richter's heart grew heavy as he contemplated the nature of Alucard's long existence. It must have been difficult for him to get used to outliving everyone he had ever grown to care for. Making and losing friends generation after generation had obviously diminished his willingness to develop meaningful relationships. But despite every sad revelation and secret that came to light about the dhampir, Richter still found himself unwilling to let him go.
"I had a dream about you recently," he confessed. "It was so dark and vivid that I thought about it for hours after waking up."
Without even realizing it, Alucard began to toy absentmindedly with several strands of Richter's hair. He couldn't recall when he had ever felt this comfortable talking to anyone so openly.
"A dream?" he asked. "The way you describe it sounds more like a nightmare."
Richter shrugged his shoulders and smiled.
"It was not entirely terrible. Someone tried to drive us apart, but in the end you overcame them and I helped you recover."
The dhampir allowed himself to return the smile.
"You are correct; that does not sound entirely terrible."
Richter closed his eyes and once again propped his chin against Alucard's shoulder.
"This time don't leave," he said softly. "Remain with me and we can move forward one day at a time."
Alucard nodded when the gentle plea reached his ears. He realized that he had become incapable of refusing the mortal.
"Very well."
