"I still can't see it," Spike said as he stretched his legs.

"It's nice to see you up and around, Spike. I've let quite a few jobs go by while I waited for you to heal," Jett said as he came into the room.

"Where's Faye?"

"She left this morning. Said she was going to try for a ten million woolong job. I don't know when she'll be back of IF she'll be back."

"Ah let her go. The only reason she was staying was because we never said no to her. So what's been happening lately?"

"Some strange things have been happening on Earth. The police posted this bounty. It's not all that much, but this guy has been involved in a lot of underhanded transactions. I wasn't going to show this to you until you were healed, considering that this is the guy that gave you those injuries to begin with."

"So what did he do on Earth?"

"Assault an officer."

"That's it? It seems to me that that's pretty...petty for a bounty. Do you have anything else on him?"

"Aside from his current employer, no. As of now, that's the only thing that's happened. It's been kinda slow for us bounty hunters lately. I didn't know if you wanted to go to earth to...take care of things."

"Not straight away. Let's give him time to let his guard down. Then we'll show up."

"But Spike, I said it doesn't pay much."

"I don't care."

"Spike, this one's between you and him."

"If you weren't going to do backup, then why did you bring it up?"

"I knew you'd ask about them. Vicious hasn't been seen lately but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I seriously doubt he met his end the same way the Blue Dragons' head did."

"He's sure to be injured so I could easily take him down. But, I'd like to hear from Julia before I do anything. I know she's still in there. We tried to get out. That's the bad thing about the syndicate. Once you're in, you can never really leave."

"I'm aware of that. Look, Big Shots is coming on. Perhaps we should wait until we know what bounty they've got."

"All right but I know we're in need of money."

Rei cried out in excitement as she lay on the floor of Vicious' ship. Vicious watched her body move, just like he had seen so many other bodies move and sighed. There was always on major difference with Rei. Unlike so many of the others he had taken advantage of, she would live to see the next day. She would never betray him, he knew but he also knew that he could not afford to let her go.

He thought of his mother and how upset she had been when faced with the loss of himself to his father in the syndicate. Never before had he seen such care or concern. Why did she suddenly have it then? Did she want to repent for all the things she had done? Had she finally realized all the things she had done wrong?

"Vicious...." Rei gasped as he drew away from her. He walked over to the pilot's chair and sat down. The pain in his legs was rising again. Perhaps Sanders had been right when he said that Vicious was not well enough to travel. He lit a cigarette and stared at the blank monitor screen. Was his position worth all that he had gone through? But, he knew no other path to follow. He was brought into the syndicate at a very young age. He learned the ways of manipulating people quite well over the years. He had been successful at getting information and expanding his territory but now...now he wondered if it all was worth it. He felt hands around his neck and glanced at Rei.

"Are you all right?" she asked. "Your thoughts are confusing."

"I'm in pain, that's all," Vicious replied.

"I'm glad you came but you shouldn't have come all this way just for me."

"I came because I wanted to."

"Why? Do you care for me the same way I care for you? I remember the look you gave me when I told you how I felt about you..."

"I don't know. There's something there, otherwise I wouldn't have come all this way for you. For some reason, I don't want to mess this up. I don't want to experience again the same life I had when I was younger."

"What?"

"I don't know. I've spent my life killing and cheating people for the benefit of the syndicate and myself. I even cheated a comrade of mine during the war. A comrade who thought me to be trusting and compassionate. Perhaps I was for a short time, but only in order to get what I wanted. But you...you're completely different. I have attempted to kill you only to find that I cannot. I don't know what I want but I don't want to screw this up. I know what I'm doing is extremely dangerous and most likely irrational but it doesn't matter to me."

He gazed up at her and smiled slightly. She watched him for a minute then turned away and picked her clothes up. He watched her get dressed then laid a hand on his ear.

"You two almost done?" Pheonix's voice asked and Vicious glanced up.

"What do you want?" he asked.

"I don't know. I get the feeling that things are going against you soon."

"What are you talking about?"

"I...don't know. She can't hear anything, can she?"

"Do you know what the hell he's talking about?" Vicious asked as she brushed her hair.

"I don't know. I can hear some uneasiness but I thought it was you and your pain," Rei replied.

"All right. Look, I'll let you in in a second. I'm going to have to find a place where I can heal in peace."

"Where is that?"

"I'll let you know. The only problem I have is finding someone to take care of business in my stead. It has to be someone I can somewhat trust. That's going to be hard."

"You can do it. I believe in you. I don't want to lose you. I love you."

He glanced at her and smiled slightly. He leaned forward and dialed a number on the on-board communicator and awaited for an answer. She watched him for a moment then walked over to the food programmer and pressed in a numerical combination for a drink.

"Waters, you've been one of my most trusted employees so far," Vicious said.

"For eight years," Waters replied. "What do you ask of me?"

"I need to take some time off for personal matters. I would like you to oversee the Red Dragons in my place. At least until I come back. I will check up on you daily. If everything is run well during my absence, I will give you a bonus upon my return."

"I will do my best, sir."

"I hope so. I believe you know the alternative."

"I do. I won't let you down."

Vicious switched off the communicator and stood up. He walked over to the hatch and unlocked it. Pheonix stepped inside and glanced at Vicious' lower legs. Vicious had managed to put on a pair of shorts during the conversation with Waters and the Regal Taliban could now see the extent of his injuries.

"Well, I think your modeling career is finished," Pheonix said.

"I'm not in the mood for humor right now. Come on. We're going to Selephin," Vicious said and Pheonix stared at him.

"You're talking about the fifth moon to Sentinal Four, right? The moon that has a high methane atmospheric count? We can't live there."

"We can stay there long enough. Selephin has twenty percent oxygen in the atmosphere so as long as you have these respiratory filters on, you'll be all right. The filters will last a month if used constantly. It shouldn't take me that long to heal."

"What happens if you don't heal within the month?"

"I'll be able to do it. Don't worry. I still have a final face-off with Spike that I have to be ready for. I also have to find a place to keep you safely. I don't want another attempt made on your life."

"When you find that place, don't expect me to turn into a full-time sitter for her. I didn't give up my network to watch someone else's woman," Pheonix said.

"Have you given your network up?" Vicious asked as the Taliban lit a cigarette.

"No and I don't plan to. I'm just telling you that I'm not going to be her sitter."

"Why would I need someone to watch me if I can hear the thoughts of others?" Rei asked and Vicious glanced at her.

"You can't hear his thoughts," he said.

"That's my security measure. But, let's not discuss that. We have plenty of things to discuss on the way to Selephin. Like what we're going to do when we get there. You do know that the Snarlaxs are alive and well on that moon, don't you?" Pheonix asked.

"What are Snarlaxs?" Rei asked.

"Snarlaxs are bipeds with a reptilian heritage and nasty attitudes. They're a war-like race who have a tendency to be extremely possessive over their territory. I seriously doubt that you can convince them to let us stay more than a day."

"You're forgetting my true nature, aren't you? Also, I'm injured and I don't know if you know much about hunting, but an injured animal tends to be more....vicious than normal. I'll deal with them and I'll get them to let us stay without becoming injured," Vicious said as he programmed the coordinates of Selephin into the navigational computer.

"Well then, I wish you luck. For all our sake," Pheonix said as the left the bridge.
