*Battlemaster the vessel approaches,* a Snarlax said and the Battlemaster nodded his head. His head was shaped like an iguana with elven ears. He had long, thick stranded ebony hair, deep amber eyes and large pointed teeth which he bared whenever he gave orders.

*Let it come,* He replied as he picked up his battle ax, which was shaped like a crescent moon. It had been fashioned out of steel then lashed to a carved staff beset with jewels.

*The one who made contact with us...he has been here before?*

*He has done jobs here before. Why?*

*He knew of our language and customs. I was wondering how he knew*

*He's been here before*

*They're landing.*

*As I said before, let them. We can at least see what they want.*

"I don't want to go out there," Rei said and Vicious looked at her.

"Can you hear them?" he asked.

"Yes. I can't understand what they're thinking but I don't like it. Please. Can I stay here?"

"I won't allow anyone to hurt you. Do you trust me?"

"I do. I know you wouldn't lie to me. Not anymore."

"Well protecting you might be difficult," Pheonix said as he stepped into the room. He wore transparisteel armor and he held a thin rapier.

"You look quite protected," Vicious said and the Taliban looked at him.

"I've dealt with them before. Trust me."

"I don't trust anyone."

"I know but try to make an effort today. Otherwise we're all going to be dead and I don't think you want that."

"Don't start with the sarcasm."

"I'm telling the truth."

*What a nice ship. It should be worth quite a lot of money.* A Snarlax said and another one glanced at the markings on the ship.

*It's a syndicate ship. It might be dangerous.* He replied and the first Snarlax shrugged his shoulders.

*Who cares?*

The Battlemaster pushed past the group of Snarlaxes and walked up to the ship as the hatch opened. He held his battle ax low and watched at Pheonix stepped onto the surface. Pheonix gazed at him for a moment then approached him.

*It's been awhile,* Pheonix said and the Battlemaster nodded his head.

*What brings you back here? I thought you were through with this place* the Battlemaster replied.

*Look, it's not by choice. My boss is injured and he wanted to come here to rest*

*This is no resort.*

*I know. He wishes to speak to you about arranging a place to stay, though.*

*Let him speak for himself, then.*

*I'll bring him right out.*

Pheonix turned and walked back up the ramp. Vicious stood there in the shadows, tightly holding a terrified Rei.

"He wants to talk to you. He understands Standard Speech. They just refuse to speak it. Want me to stay with her?" Pheonix asked.

"It would be best if they saw the entire party. I'll bring her with me. I may need her for support," Vicious replied as he tried to ignore the burning sensation in his legs. Rei ran her fingers through his coarse gray hair in concern and he glanced at her.

"Rei, no matter what I say in my thoughts and no matter how badly I might feel, I don't want you to be overly concerned out there. Keep silent for my sake."

"I'm sorry. It's not by choice that I'm like this," she said and Vicious said nothing. They started down the ramp with Vicious' bird behind them. Rei looked at the gathering of Snarlaxes and tried to drive the alien tongue from her mind. She couldn't understand them but she knew the thoughts were disturbing.

"I am called Vicious and I belong to the Red Dragon Syndicate. I became injured in a fight with the Blue Dragon Syndicate and merely need a place to stay until I heal. I will make it worth your while," Vicious said as the Battlemaster leaned on his weapon. "We plan on staying no longer than we need to. Room does not need to be worried about as I will stay in my own ship. I simply need walking space and time."

The Battlemaster looked at Pheonix and the Taliban took a step forward.

*You wish to say something?* Pheonix asked and the Battlemaster nodded his head.

*The female must serve us until he has healed.* the Battlemaster said and Pheonix glanced at Rei.

*But....*

*Do not anger me Taliban. You know what happens when I get cheated.*

*I'm not trying to cheat you. This woman is not mine to give away.*

"What's going on?" Vicious asked.

"It's about her," Pheonix replied.

"If you are concerned about her, do not be. She is merely with me to make sure I heal in the quickest amount of time as possible. She will be with me the majority of the time and will not interfere with your daily activities."

*I see. Let me discuss this with the others,* the Battlemaster said and walked away.

"What's going on now?" Vicious asked.

"They're talking it over," Pheonix replied.

"What did they want her for?"

"A servant and I'm sure it was an intimate type of servant."

"Would you not hold me so tight?"

"I'm sorry but I'm really afraid. I don't want to be raped by them," Rei whispered and Vicious glanced at her.

"Didn't I tell you nothing would happen to you?" he asked and Rei slowly nodded her head.

"You did but I'm still afraid."

"You have no reason to be."

The Battlemaster broke away from the group and walked back to where Pheonix stood.

*You have two weeks to stay. Upon leaving you will pay us fifty thousand woolongs and those two must perform the act in our arena,* the Battlemaster said.

*But...* Pheonix protested and the Battlemaster held his weapon in a fierce stance.

*Or you do not leave this world alive. Tell him that*

Pheonix turned and walked over to Vicious. He glanced at the bird, who sat critically watching him, and sighed.

"What did they decide?" Vicious asked.

"We've got two weeks," Pheonix replied.

"I'll just have to heal faster then."

"And they want fifty thousand woolongs when we leave."

"They'll get it."

"Plus..."

"Plus?"

"You have to perform the act the night before you leave otherwise they'll kill us."

"The act?" Rei asked.

"All right. We'll do it," Vicious said. "It's not like we really have a choice, is it?"

"You chose to come here," Pheonix said in a fierce whisper then walked back to the Battlemaster.

*We will stay,* he said and the Battlemaster grinned, showing off his razor sharp teeth.

*I thought you would,* he replied.
