** Ok standard Note: I don't own any part or any characters from InuYasha and Yu Yu Hakusho. I just borrow the characters to play with for a while, and then give them back, only slightly mentally damaged… (Swings broom at Youko to force him back in my closet) Not you! You have to stay and 'play' a little longer… hahahah ok on with the story… **

“I told no lies. Hiei tried to see into her mind and was nearly purified; she has priestess blood…Holy energy.” Genkai said after everyone sat down in the living room. Everyone turned to look at the girl in confusion, and Youko’s arms tightened around her.
Yusuke voice was shocked and confused when he spoke after a few moments of stunned silence, “Wait a minute. You said Holy Energy…as is the same kind Sensui had? But Koenma said that kind of energy took 40 years to master and she doesn’t look that old.”
“There are two kinds of Holy energy; that born of training and that born of bloodline. This girl’s power comes from bloodline, but most of the bloodlines have either nearly ceased to exist or the power has disappeared. It’s most likely due to there being no demons around. While this girl is no master, her powers probably reacted in her defense…the power is there.” Genkai’s words hung heavy in the room; no one knew what to say next.
Youko’s golden eyes shifted off the sleeping beauty for a moment as he looked at Genkai. His voice was silky, but just as a sheathed sword it carried a concealed edge, “Genkai, if the girl had these powers why did they not react to save her life when she was attacked by the Kyuukonki or the crow?”
His words got Yusuke’s attention, head snapping up to look at Youko. “What Kyuukonki?”
Youko didn’t even shift his eyes when he answered. “She was attacked the other night and I saved her. That is why she is here.”
Yusuke looked ready to say something more when Yukina cut in, her voice normal and song like once more, “Youko, do you know why these demons keep attacking her? I mean if it’s her power, I haven’t felt it at all…not even when I healed her. So what could be driving two different demons to do the same thing? And so close together too.”
Youko blinked. That had to be the most intelligent question yet…from anyone in the group. However, the question also made him growl in irritation.
“I had thought the first attack simple the demon hunting for food by now, I must find out why. If I don’t know what they want, I won’t be able to protect her,” he answered.
“Protect her? Why do you want to do that? I don’t get why she matters to you, and why you refuse to put her down!” Kuwabara finally put in as he sat near Yukina. His eyes had not left Youko since they had sat down, and after a pause he continued, “And if you only just saved her the other night, how’d you know her name?”
Youko growled loudly as a warring to Kuwabara to back off, his eyes almost glowing in a deadly sort of way. He had hoped no one would have noticed that, and to have Kuwabara pick it up was almost insulting to his fox nature.
“It is true I don’t know her name yet. The name I called was that of a young woman I knew from a long time ago. This girl not only bears a resemblance, but that girl too had been a Miko with holy powers.”
“A reincarnation?” It was more of a statement then a question, and Genkai words struck a cord with Youko. It had been his secret hope, but he had never even wanted to voice it.
Yusuke shook his head as he thought, and then said the one other thing Youko did not want to hear, “We have to call Koenma. If anyone knows anything, he will. We need to find out why these demons want her.”
“NO!” Youko roared at the detective, glaring daggers and holding the young woman even tighter in his arms, “Reikai has rules, and they will make me erase her memory. Then they will bar me from ever seeing her again…. that will not be aloud to happen. If anything, these attacks prove that she needs me,” His words came harsh and quick and he said more then he wanted to in his rush to keep the girl away from the spirit world ruler.

Someone was yelling, and there was a lot of talking. But she felt warm and safe, so her first instinct was to ignore the voices and snuggle closer to the warm safe chest she’d found herself against. She couldn’t remember feeling this safe in months; since her travels had ended and her time with InuYasha and the other had come to an end. She smiled at the good memories of the few times she had falling asleep leaning back on InuYasha’s chest. He’d never moved, and he’d stayed put so as not to wake her.
Even better, she could swear she heard purring…as if Shippo was curled up with her in her sleeping bag like normal. Kagome had often wondered if the kitsune kid knew he purred in his sleep. After a moment, she realized the purring sounded off…it didn’t sound right. This wasn’t purring. Like a bolt of lightening, it hit her: It was growling.
Slowly…cautiously, she blinked her eyes. She was facing the chest, so there was little chance of her being seen by the one growling. The voices behind her sounded angrier. Kagome was hearing bits and pieces of a conversation already underway.
“That would be the best course, and it’s really the only thing we can do with her.”
This voice sounded very angry and gruff to Kagome’s ears and she didn’t like it; it made her nervous.
“What’d you think? That after what happened she’d thank you and you would live happily ever after? Dimwit. Rules are there for a reason, and they are more for her protection.”
An older woman’s voice. It too was gruff, but there was a certain warmth there…as if she cared and just didn’t show it.
“Youko, think of her…you have so many enemies. What if they find out about her and use her?”
A young woman…maybe around her age. She sounded the most kind yet, and it seemed she genuinely cared about both people she was talking about. Kagome was listening for more when the words hit her brain and the name registered. Youko.
Youko…it couldn’t be. She didn’t even dare to hope she’d get to see anyone that she’d left behind, and then for that name to be said.
The hope of that person being here with her…hope was a dangerous thing; it had done terrible things to Kagome in the past. Should she really believe now? But she couldn’t stop herself. Not even hearing the voices as they continued to speak, she carefully raised her eyes.
White clothes…that she remembered. She often teased about it, asking how he kept himself so clean. Muscular chest, oh yes she remembered that. She dreamt about that chest and longed to run her fingers over it. Once he had even jumped into a hot spring with her, claiming unbearable muscle pain. All the while he wore a smirk as innocent as it was devilish. They had talked for hours that night until InuYasha had come looking for her and saw Youko first. The Fox had been dragged off by his tail.
She felt something furry pat her leg. Glancing down, she saw the tail in question. It was just as soft looking and slivery as ever, and Kagome had to hold herself back from petting it.
Moving her eyes back up, she saw his jaw. It was set in a stubborn sort of way as if he and InuYasha were once again arguing over something…most likely her.
Silver hair, which she also remembered dreaming of…while in that hot spring together she had washed it for him. It hadn’t needed it; it had been dream soft and silky. Perfect in every way, she had dumped water on his head once more then necessary that night due to her jealousy of his hair. Her eyes traveled higher and went to the feature that every man she’d fallen for had: golden eyes. Right now they were cold and hard like a golden blade.
Then she saw them…the one feature that told her beyond a doubt whose lap she sat in. It was the one feature she loved most, and he had let her play with them as much as she wanted…something InuYasha had never allowed. Those ears…those tall, proud ears that never failed to grab her attention. She had seen his different moods through those ears: happy, angry, sad, pouting, jealousy, content, battle, and sleeping. She could tell everything about him from just the ways he held his ears and that tail. And now, they were proud but slowly slipping into battle mode.
Kagome heard the voices behind her continuing to argue, but she didn’t hear the words. Her mind was overjoyed and overflowing with happiness at having found a friend; someone who knew her and understood her. Someone she had wanted to talk more with, someone who she wanted to know better, someone who she wanted to….hold close.
Smiling to herself, she saw those ears almost completely shift into battle mode; someone was going to be in trouble if she didn’t do something. Well, no time like the present to say hello. Her hands were moving in a shot; a blur faster then she thought she could move, and while the muscles in her arms protested a little, the reward was worth it. Rub. Rub. Those ears; as soft and lovely as she remembered.
It seemed the whole room froze as Youko slowly looked down at her, and she smiled warmly at him. Her blue eyes were sparkling with her smile, her fingers still gripping and gently rubbing his ears as they slowly relaxed into confusion. She almost laughed; he remembered her, but probably thought it impossible to meet again. So she spoke in the sing song voice she had always used when enjoying the company of her friends.
“Hello again Youko, did you miss me?”

The ogres were running about like chickens with their heads cut off; as loud bangs and crashes reverberated out from the office of their boss, lord Koenma. They had been told to not disturb the guest and their boss’s meeting but that didn’t stop them from being nervous. Another particularly loud bang set a few ogres jumping and the papers in their hands flying. It was this scene of chaos that greeted Botan as she ran in after been summoned by Koenma, her blue ponytail bouncing behind her and her breath short. She only stopped a few feet from the door where she saw the blue ogre George standing.
“What’s going on?” Botan asked before jumping back at another loud bang.
Blinking, she spoke again before George could answer her first question. “Is Koenma in trouble with his father again?”
Shaking his head George answered quickly.
“No. Koenma is with a special guest but the problem he called for you for is very important. The Shikon no Miko has gone missing, and he wants you to get the detectives here now.”
Botan’s eyes widened and her mouth gaped for a moment before twisting her head back and forth to look from the door to George to the door again.
“If the Shikon no Miko is missing, then that means the one in there is…”
Botan swallowed loudly, and throw a look of pity towards the door. George nodded his head rapidly and then motioned for her to go.
“The quicker you get the detectives the better.”
Backing away very quickly Botan nodded again before turning and running towards the door.
“Don’t worry I’ll have them back here in no time!” She yelled back over her shoulder before disappearing out the door.

Junko humbled down the long corridor of the black mirror castle. His master would be pleased; he’d managed to find a great new demon who - with a great amount of pay - was willing to go and fetch the Miko. Into the room so much like a funhouse where the shrieks of crows echo out from, he walked and bowed to the other side of the room…his master’s place. Junko’s disfigured face was down as he spoke to his master.
“Master. I have found another demon who will go and fetch the Miko and do some damage to that damnable fox,” his lips twisted into an odd shape. Even looking straight at him, it would take anyone several minutes to realize this was Junko’s smile. The calls of the crows quieted and Junko could feel the many eyes of the crows upon him. He hesitated a moment as if he wanted to step back, but he did not. After a few moments, Junko was about to repeat himself when he heard the voice of his master, just as bored and disinterested sounding as before.
“Who did you get this time Junko?”
“I got a thief master, and not just any…I went to the band of thieves that fox was once the leader of and offered them gold. They all wanted the chance to get back at their old master for abandoning them, plus the chance to steal something from him for a change. The best of them and the master’s own favorite apprentice spoke up and took the job. Who better to trick a fox then another?”
Junko’s laugh sounded as twisted as his body looked, it was almost a nauseating thing to hear. The crows cawed and shrieked, but now the calls sounded pained and like begging pleas. They found the twisted monster’s laugh as abominable as any normal creature would. The master’s sharp words silenced Junko’s horrible sound.
“Junko! What have I told you before? No laughing in my presence. And be warned; this idea of yours better work, or you and that horrid laugh will cease to exist.”
Junko bowed even lower and hobbled backwards to escape while he still had the chance.
“Don’t worry master…this time I won’t fail. You’ll see…you’ll have the girl and the jewel and your plans will be able to begin.”
