Chapter Six:

My Name Is Inuyasha

“Hey,” Sheila falls to her knees in the wet mud, turning him over so he wouldn't drown, “please don't be dead,” she whispers softly to him, tears starting to mix with the rain falling down her cheeks, “I-I couldn't live with myself if you die because of me.” She waits hopefully, then panics when he doesn't respond, “Wake up! Wake Up!”
The demon groans weakly, his body going into spasms for a moment before he went still again.
Sheila smiles with renewed hope, “You're not in the best condition, but you're still alive. But what to do?” She looks around for anything that will help, remembers the cave isn't too far away and starts to clear a way back with a plan in mind…

“Hey, where's Inuyasha,” Kagome questions, trying her best not be disturbed by Vickie's smiling face. She's been smiling like that for the last few hours and it was downright creepy and annoying.
“Don't know,” Sango admits, tying her long dark brown hair into the usual ponytail after letting Rin brush it, “he got impatient and left.”
“Left,” Kagome repeats with a frown.
“He didn't want to wait on you,” Miroku explains, “so he went ahead of us.”
“Stupid bonehead,” Shippo says in disapproval before returning happily to slurping at the juice that Kagome bought him from the Present. Kagome nods in understanding, taking a tiny glance at Vickie and the oddly familiar group of people that she has confidently announced would now be traveling with them.
“Come play with me Shippo,” Rin calls to Shippo, running out of the hotel's tatami room with Kohaku right behind her. Shippo puts down his juice and goes after them with a happy cheer, glad to have people around his age to play with.
“Sango, Miroku,” Kagome sits between the lovers on Shippo's futon, “did he seem OK when he left?”
“No,” Sango answers honestly with a frown.
“I second Sango on this one,” Miroku states, “Inuyasha was acting pretty strange when he left.”
“Yeah,” Sango continues, “he seemed to be in pain or something.”
Kagome blushes guiltily, “You think he'll be OK on his own?”
“I don't know Kagome,” Sango admits, “he really had me worried.”
“It's Inuyasha,” Miroku reassures both his mate and Kagome, “I'm sure he just fine, where ever he is.”…

Sheila falls back on her ass with a huff, “Damn you're heavy! Dragging you from the forest all the way here must have been the most I've ever worked out in my life,” she talks to the unconscious demon while getting up and preparing another fire.
“Lucky for you, my matches are all dry now,” Sheila says, glad to be lighting fire in complete safety this time. After a while she stares shyly over at the demon, pulling out one of her black robes and her sleeping bag out of air tight storage sacks from her traveling pack, “I-I'll have to undress you…wouldn't want you to catch a cold or something,” she speaks quietly with a blush, “I can't believe I'm really gonna do this!”
She nervously fiddles with the ties of his kimono, successfully getting off both of his shirts after a few curses and toweling him off a bit before sitting him up against a huge dead tree so that she could put his arms through the robe. Turning redder in the face, Sheila pulls off his pants, not looking as she towels him off a little bit more and fully covers him with the robe.
“There,” she says, proud of her work, “now it's my turn.” Sheila easily undresses and puts on another black robe, tugging out two small pots with packages of noodles and extra meat. Using bottled water, she creates a kind of cooking stove top out of one of the small dead logs and unrolls two sleeping bags with drift movements.
“OK puppy demon,” Sheila takes a thermometer out of her bag and sticks it into his mouth, “let's see if we can find out what's wrong with you,” she says, humming gently to the shaking demon as she feels his burning forehead and checks the thermometer with a whistle.
“No doubt about it, you're one sick puppy,” she says with a smile, looking into the pockets of her bag to find some liquid medicine, “but I'll do whatever it takes to make you feel all better,” Sheila declares with a light giggle, “it's the least I can do since you saved me.”
The demon groans in pain and sickness, the sweat starting to pour from his forehead.
Sheila frowns, quickly dabbing away the sweat before it could stick to his glowing skin, “Hey,” she calls out firmly, “Wake up! Wake up or I'll slap you!”
The demon forces his eyes open, looking forlornly at her, “Wha-” he pushes her away and just barely makes it to the opening of the cave before he throws up. Sheila immediately goes to his side, helping him back inside and lightly poking a spoonful of medicine at his mouth.
He cautiously opens his mouth, wincing at the taste as she forces him to swallow it.
“There,” Sheila nods in approval, “now get into that sleeping bag.”
The demon glares at her tiredly.
“Look, either you let me help you or be stuck with a stubborn flu for the rest of the month!”
Mumbling in weak protest, he allows Sheila to take him to the sleeping bag near the fire where she helps him get in and covers him with extra blankets.
“Don't fall asleep until you eat something,” she warns him, checking on the noodles and putting in the extra chicken pieces that were already cooked. Taking out a brush and red ponytail holder, Sheila brushes his hair to get the tangled strands out of his face and puts it all into a loose ponytail; amazed at how soft his hair was.
Once the noodles are done, she puts the chicken flavoring in and mixes it with chopsticks from her traveling pack.
She brings the chopsticks to his mouth, “Open,” she orders, smiling when he obeys with a sleepy yawn and greedily takes the food. Finishing his soup with no problem, the demon cuddles under the covers and closes his eyes, shaking only a little after Sheila's special treatment.
Sheila stays up most of the night, wondering fleetingly about her friends as she occasionally wakes the demon to give him medicine and feed him a little more soup before she also falls asleep…

Inuyasha wakes with a stretch, the sun flooding in from the opening of the mouth of the cave telling him that the night was over. Deciding to stay put in the sleeping bag, he chances a glance at the girl he saved a couple of nights ago.
Still sleeping after yet another night of nursing him back to health, Sheila was a strange girl to him. For one thing, she wasn't afraid of him. Normally humans would lose their minds once they discovered that he was a half demon, but all Sheila did was make him take extra yucky medicine in case of infection or a unique immune system that he could have which might actually eat the medicine rather than use it. The second thing that caught his attention about her was her firm man handling skills. Sure he knew Kagome, Sango and even Keade to be somewhat the same as far as the attitude goes, but Sheila could almost carry him back to the cave whenever she needed to. It wasn't extreme strength but still strength nonetheless. And finally, what made him most grateful, she didn't have the crazy desire to pick with his puppy ears like everyone else that first met him! Said ears twitch at the sound of Sheila's moan and yawn, the smile she presents him being lazy and relaxed.
“Good morning puppy.”
Inuyasha growls, “I wish you wouldn't call me that.”
“But that's what you look like.”
“No I don't.”
“Yes you do.”
“No I don't.”
“Do you want me to give you more medicine so soon?”
“?!...OK, fine” Inuyasha sighs, “maybe I do…a little.”
“I'm glad you agree, but you still gotta take some medicine.”
“Oh why all of a sudden,” Inuyasha whines, “it's still early.”
Sheila gets out the sleeping bag in her usual clothes that she has washed and dried a night ago along with the demon's clothes, “Because I think you're finally healed and I don't want you to have a setback,” she answers simply, handing him the spoon with an expectant look on her face. Holding his nose, Inuyasha gulps down the meds with a frown on his face.
“Man that's nasty.”
“OK fussy face,” she hands him a bar of soap and face towel, “you know the routine.”
“Do I really have to take a bath?”
“Do you really want to get sick again?”
“No,” he admits, “but how is taking a bath gonna help me?”
Sheila smiles, “Easy. You're still sweating out the sickness from your skin! If you don't take a bath, you'll just catch it again!”
Inuyasha gets up with a protesting mumble, “You better not be lying.”
“Oh for heaven's sake! Go already!
He obediently leaves the cave in the direction of the river, growling and mumbling the whole way. Sheila giggles as she watches him leave. She still couldn't believe it. The last few days she's been with a male demon! ~And a cute one too~ she thought with her brown cheeks turning pink-brown in a little blush~I can't wait to introduce him to Vickie! I'll have to remember to ask him his name later but for now~ Sheila smiles happily at her things ~timeto start repackingto reunite with my friends!~

~Meanwhile~

Vickie glares impatiently at Sango, Kagome and Miroku, “We're not going anywhere.”
Shippo blinks up at her, “What?”
Sesshomaru comes up behind his little sister, having just recently returned from one of his private travels a few days ago, “We're waiting for Inuyasha.”
Rin looks over at the person that raised her since she was only a seven-year old kid. Now reaching the human appearance of fourteen but actually being almost as old as Inuyasha at one-hundred-forty-five, she knows and understands how rare it was for Sesshomaru to speak on any matter.
“But we don't know if he's coming back,” Kagome argues, stepping back a little as both Vickie and Sesshomaru come closer to her with a glare.
“And we didn't know that yo ugly ass was coming back either, but we still waited,” Vickie points out, “so we are waiting for my brother and that's final!”
“But it's almost been three days now,” Sango says, “and we have no idea where he could be.”
“All the more reason to wait,” Sesshomaru answers for his little sister, “there'll be no arguing,” he says in a finality that no one could ignore, “we're not going anywhere.”
“But what about Sheila,” Serenity questions, “how are we gonna find her?”
Everyone was silent, wishing they could answer that question…and yet knowing they couldn't.
“Oh man Sheila,” Joey talks out loud with a frown, “where are ya?”…

~Meanwhile~

Sheila sits down for a rest along with Inuyasha, the blazing sun not doing much to the slight chill in the air.
“I wish I knew where to look first,” she says with a disheartened sigh, “they could be anywhere!”
Inuyasha tilts his head, “Who?”
“The friends that I travel with,” Sheila explains, “We got separated when a strange demon tried to eat us.”
“Well, we could just go to the pack I know and see if they can be any help,” Inuyasha offers.
“You have a pack?”
He blushes, “I wouldn't call them mine.”
“But if they listen to you and accept your commands, then they must be your pack,” Sheila persists.
“They can be pretty commanding themselves,” Inuyasha mumbles, standing up with a stretch, “but we won't get anywhere just walking like this.”
“Yeah, you're right,” Sheila agrees, “but how else are we gonna travel?”
“Hmmmm,” Inuyasha squats down, “get on my back.”
Sheila stares stupidly at him, “Get on your back? Are you serious?!”
“Yes I am,” He growls, “now get on my back already before I change my mind.”
Sheila gives in with an uncertain look, adjusting her travel pack before climbing onto his back, “OK, now what?”
“Hang on tight.”
“Huh? AHHHHHH!”
Sheila screams as Inuyasha suddenly takes to the air, leaping gracefully from tree to tree.
“Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god,” she repeats the words like a mantra while staring down at the passing ground, “oh my god I'm gonna be sick.”
“Then look up, idiot.”
“I'm not an idi-”
Sheila falls short of her sentence with a gasps of wonder. They were so close to the sun and clouds with every jump that it was like sailing on the sky, “Wow,” she whispers in awe, “this is beautiful.”
“Yeah, I love the view too,” Inuyasha admits, smiling at the glowing sun, “It's pretty good at night when there's a full moon.”
“Then you're gonna have to show me sometime,” Sheila says with a joyful laugh, allowing Inuyasha to hold her waist as she lets go of him and spreads out her arms, “I bet this is what flying feel like!”
“No,” he laughs gruffly, “it's much better.”
“I won't argue with that,” Sheila laughs, playfully howling at a pack of demon wolves below and blushes when all the males wolves howl at her lustily, “sick perverts,” she mumbles.
Inuyasha laughs, “Serves you right,” he seems to growl, “it's almost mating season for them.”
“Mating season,” Sheila looks down at him, “but I thought that wolves went into heat near the end of the winter so that they could raise their babies in the summer.”
“Demons aren't like that,” Inuyasha explains, “they have their babies at the beginning of winter so that their big enough to live on their own by the summer.”
“Hmmm, I guess that makes sense.”
“Ok, we're almost there,” Inuyasha grins evilly, “hang on!”
Clutching to him as if her very life depends on it, Sheila hides her face in the back of his shoulder as Inuyasha takes off like a streak of light, the smell of his own sent mixing with her Essential Care Moisturizing body wash soap making her sigh in pure comfort.
Finally, all movement stops.
“You can get off now,” he reassures her, “we're here.”
Sheila shyly peeks up to see Vickie running at them, “Vickie?”
“Sheila! Inuyasha!”
“Inuyasha?! What is she talking about?”
“My name is Inuyasha.”
Sheila can only gawk stupidly at the demon she's been spending the last few days with before Vickie knocks them both down…
