A young woman stood in front of a small grey head stone sticking out of the ground. The woman's crystal colored gaze softened at the sight.
“You always were a brash one weren't you mother?” She whispered softly as she brushed a strand of silver hair away from her face. “After all whom else would I get it from?” She questioned ruefully.
The woman lifted her head up and rubbed her swollen stomach lovingly. “I wish you were still here. I wish you could be here to watch the birth of your first grandchild, and I also wish that I could still come to you for advice. But fate has been cruel to us both. I love you mother and I hope that you're happy wherever you are.” She finished as a pink haired girl rushed forward, her blue eyes lighting with joy.
“Riiko-chan! Let's go already!” She shouted happily tugging lightly on Riiko's hand. Riiko smiled softly at the child before running her hand over the name engraved in the tombstone. Hatake Kagome.

Chapter 1: Packaged Chaos Called Kyuubi
A tense silence fell over the heads of Fugaku, Itachi, and Kagome as they awaited the birth of the newest addition to the family. Fugaku sat quietly while Itachi rested under his sister's arm. Kagome titled her head to the side, taking a small glance out of the hospital's window.
“It's sundown.” She stated. The Uchiha clan's patriarch turned his charcoal gaze toward the window as well.
“So it is.” He said simply as he stared at the golden sky. Itachi lifted his head lightly as he watched the brightly streaked sky slowly fade into darker shades of purple and black.
The light above the operating door clicked off suddenly as a young woman dressed in a nurse's outfit exited.
“Congratulations, it's a boy.” She smiled as she led the rest of the family towards Mikoto, a small bundle of blue wrapped securely in her arms.
A soft smile graced Kagome's lips as Itachi leaned forward to get a good glance at his baby brother. When he realized that he was still a little to short to see over the bed's railing, she gathered him into her arms and lifted him to where he could see better.
“That better?” Kagome asked softly. Itachi nodded his head appreciatively at his sister. Mikoto smiled at their interaction. It had been so long since the six-year-old had shown an interest in anything other than training. She turned her head back towards her newborn son lying helplessly in her arms. Maybe just maybe he'd be able to help Itachi cope.
“Welcome to the family, Sasu-chan.” Kagome said softly at the newborn in her mother's arms. But their happy occasion was suddenly ruined when a loud roar echoed through the village. Sasuke opened his mouth and began to cry out in fear.
Concern knitted her brows. Just what kind of creature could make that kind of noise? Her question was answered when the large form of the Kyuubi No Youko appeared in the distance.
“Oh kami…it's the Kyuubi.” Kagome said horrified. Terror flitted across all the rest of the Uchiha's faces just as a Chuunin ran into the room.
“Fugaku-sama, Kagome-san Yondaime-sama needs your help!” The chuunin shouted fearfully. Kagome quickly set Itachi on the ground and followed her father out onto the battlefield.
“Be careful…Anue.” Itachi said softly as they left.

“Minato-sensei! What's going on?” Kagome shouted as she flanked his side. The Yondaime Hokage glanced at his student briefly before turning his attention back toward the pissed off fox demon.
“I'm not sure but we have to seal it. Do you think that you can hold him off while I prepare the jutsu?” Minato questioned seriously. He never wanted to put any of his students into a position like this but she was the only one that had the ability. She was the only true miko in their village, and a trained one at that.
“I'll do my best.” Kagome replied as she took off towards the Kyuubi. Minato turned his gaze towards his other student.
“Provide back up for her until you get the signal, after that the both of you need to high-tail it out of there.” He said pointedly. Kakashi nodded briefly before disappearing in a cloud of smoke. Minato took a deep breath as he began to build up the necessary amount of chakra for the sealing jutsu. He only hoped that his wife survived tonight to raise their son, fore he would no longer be around.

Kagome snarled at the Kyuubi as she blocked one of his nine tailed with a large barrier that she formed around herself and the shinobi in the surrounding area. The demon fox curled his lips back in an animalistic grin, showing off his blood stained fangs.
“A miko in the Uchiha clan, that's a new one.” He sneered. Kagome growled fiercely as she un-strapped her twin blades from her back and charged them to the max with her miko ki. Kakashi placed his hand on her shoulder, silently warning her to allow herself to become too enraged. She took a deep calming breath.
Kyuubi grinned maliciously as one of his nine tailed slammed the ground next to the two teenaged Jounin, knocking them a good few hundred feet away. The Uchiha heiress dug her blades into the ground to stop her sliding while Kakashi leapt into one of the tree branches above.
“Is that the best you can do?” The nine tailed fox sneered as his lifted his tail off of the ground and tilted his head cockily. Kakashi and Kagome glared fiercely at the demon. They shared a quick glance at each other but before they had a chance to launch their counter attack, Gamabunta appeared in the distance with Minato upon his back.
“We need to leave.” Kakashi stated as he tugged on Kagome's arm. She nodded. Just as they got a safe distance away, a flash of white surrounded their sensei and the Kyuubi.

Kagome, Fugaku, Kakashi, and almost every other shinobi gathered in the village center awaiting news on their Hokage. Then just as dawn broke over the horizon the legendary sannin, Jiraiya, returned with Minato's pale body in his arms. Screams of sorrow filled the morning's air. Kagome's legs collapsed beneath her as tears streamed down her face. Her sensei was dead. Their Hokage was dead.
There'd be no more smiles, no more teacher to make things okay again, but most of all there'd no longer be a leader that held the trust of the entire village. That was a feat only the Yondaime Hokage had accomplished. For as long as she could remember the Uchiha clan had never once trusted any on the Hokage's, that was until her sensei gained the position. Then everything changed. The hatred that brewed between the Senju clan and Uchiha clan had almost completely dissolved and even that was only because Minato made a truce with the Uchiha. But now she feared where the village's future was headed.
Fugaku watched with sorrow filled eyes as his eldest child broke down before him. There was only one other time that she had been like this and that was the death of her closest cousin and now ex-teammate, Obito. He never really cared much for the boy but when he died, a part of his daughter died too. And now with the Yondaime's death he worried about how much more of her would die with him too?
Unlike with Kakashi whom respected his teacher very much, Kagome idolized him and his wife Kushina. She spent as much time as she could with the family, bringing Itachi along with her as much as she could. But unlike what he thought, Minato and Kushina didn't mind it. In fact they welcomed her and Itachi both with open arms. It was almost as if they were an extension of their family.
A small ghost of a smile appeared on Fugaku's lips at the memories but it was quickly swiped away when one of the other Jounin pointed at finger at the newborn in the Sandaime Hokage's arms.
“Why are you allowing the Kyuubi to live!?!” The Jounin shouted ferociously at Sarutobi. Kagome and Kakashi's shoulders stiffened. The rest of the shinobi began to shout their agreements. Hatred burned in their eyes as they glared at the small form of Minato's infant son.
“What makes Naruto any different from the rest of you!?! What crimes has that child committed against you! He's the Hokage's son for Kami's sake and you want to kill him!?!” Kagome shouted furiously at the crowd. Tears of anger and hatred cascaded down her face. “And you say that you're loyal to Minato-sensei!?! All of you should be ashamed of yourselves!” Kagome finished, throwing heated glares at several members of the crowd. Several shouts of protest erupted from the other shinobi but the were immediately silenced by the Sandaime Hokage.
“Until a new leader is chosen, I will resume position of Hokage. As for the child, he will not be killed. Yondaime had given us strict orders to see that the boy survives and is viewed as a hero not as a demon. Now if I find anyone so much uttering the word Kyuubi around him, there'll be dire consequences. Am I making myself clear?” Sarutobi said, throwing a chilling glare at the protesting audience.
Kakashi sighed in relief. At least his sensei's son would have a sliver of normal life. There'd still be glares and hateful words but there'd be no accusations of him being a demon being thrown around his head. And that was an improvement of the treatment that he would've gained were the Sandaime not to threaten them. He only hoped that the child survived long enough to take care of himself.

“Can I entrust you with this mission?” Sarutobi asked sternly as his eyes pierced Kagome's very soul.
“Hai Hokage-sama. I give you my word that I will not dishonor you or Minato-sensei in this mission.” She said sternly, determination shining brightly in her crystal colored eyes. The Sandaime smiled softly at the teenaged girl.
“I know you won't. You may pick him up immediately after dismissal.” He continued but stopped and stared at the Uchiha heiress curiously when she kneeled before him.
“Arrigato Hokage-sama. I'm deeply honored that you have chosen me to carry out this mission.” She whispered as pristine tears formed in her eyes.
“It wasn't just me but Minato and Kushina also suggested you for the job should Jiraiya-sama not be around.” Sarutobi finished as he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“Arrigato.” She said again as she exited his office. Kagome made her way through the Hokage's mansion and entered a room at the far left side of the hallway. In there was a solitary crib with a crying child contained behind its bars. She pressed forward until she could see the child's expression. A soft smile spread across her lips as she gathered him into her arms and began to sing a familiar lullaby. The babe immediately quieted and stared at her curiously.
“Hey Naru-chan are you ready to go home?” Kagome asked then giggled as Naruto began to tug on her parts of her raven locks. “I guess I should take that as a yes huh?” She continued as she pulled him closer to her chest. A wide smile formed on the infants face, happy for the attention.
She smiled at his reaction. From here on out things would be different, no matter how hard the road up ahead was, she would not fail her sensei. She would not allow Naruto to grow up an orphan.
A/n: Hey well I've completely forgotten if Kakashi was in the ANBU or if he was a Jounin at 14, so if you review will you let me know? I'll fix the mistakes as fast as I can but I'll be busy for a while and probably won't be able to update for months on end. I thought that I might as well warn you now so you won't wait for the next chapter and get angry with me for updating so slowly. Oh and one more thing, in case you were wondering I had replaced Rin with Kagome on Kakashi's team, I thought that that would work out better not only for the plot line but the development of the pairing as well. Also Kagome's eye color will be explained in further chapters, probably around the Zabuza arc but again there are no guarantees. Well I hope you and enjoy and please leave some constructive criticism if you find anything wrong! ^^
