Chapter One: “Bitter Sweet Kagome”
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto or Inuyasha!!!
A figure looked down coldly at the quivering man kneeling before her with her blade at his throat. Hard sapphire eyes glared hatefully at the pathetic ninja before her who was shaking like a leaf in a storm.
“Please spare me! I have a family and two daughters!” The ninja pleaded trembling and looking franticly at the bloody remains of what used to be his team. Returning his horror filled eyes back on the girl in front of him he shivered at the look in the girls eyes. The girl in front of him looked no older than his seventeen year old daughter back at home and it terrified him that this beautiful slip of a girl could be so monstrous.
“Plea-” Before he could finish a slash hit his throat spraying the ground and surrounding foliage with blood as he fell to the ground twitching effectively startling the birds in the trees.
“No Konoha nin deserves my mercy,” she coldly stated turning her back to the gory scene. Throwing a note onto the dead body she sheathed her sword and disappeared into the shadow of the trees leaving behind a mess of blood and decapitated limbs and organs.
-Konoha-
“Hokage-sama!” an AMBU Black Ops shouted bursting into the room with a surprised Shizune running behind.
“What is it!?” Tsunade snapped annoyed not looking up from her paper work. She really wasn't in the position to be bothered with the amount of paper work on her desk looming over her like mountains. This had to be extremely important or she was going to snap, really she didn't know why she took this job in the first place! Oh, right. Her deal with Naruto, damn that lovable Kyuubi brat!
She was pulled out of her musings as the ANBU took a deep breath and gravely reported, “Another ANBU team has been slaughtered.”
Hearing this she snapped her head up in attention with her hand poised in the middle of signing a contract. Eyes wide in disbelief she asked angrily, “AGAIN?! WHEN?!”
“They were on their way back from Suna, and were attacked in the forest about 20 miles from Konoha being brutally slaughtered.”
Hearing this Tsunade clasped her hands on her desk in tense silence. Lately there had been reports about a shinobi killer. Even worse it seemed that this killer only targeted Konoha nin, and not other villages, unless provoked. At first she thought the killings were nothing but regular causalities by random rogue ninja, after all it wasn't unusual for ninja's to die on missions, but around a year ago one ANBU team didn't return, not one. This caused her to get suspicious since at least one always returned to report a head of time.
When they went to investigate there was a white note waiting for them, and what they read wasn't at all surprising. It stated that the person would get revenge on Konoha, but really, Konoha received death threats often so she brushed it off as nothing. Although she hadn't anticipated that over the course of the next year until now there would be attacks where whole ANBU groups and even Chuunin groups were torn apart, and the only evidence would be the same white note over and over again. After maybe the third attack she finally took it seriously which she regretted not looking into it sooner.
Watching the ANBU put something on her desk she ordered firmly, “Get me Kakashi.”
Bowing, the ANBU quickly teleported out of the room to find the copy nin leaving a worried Hokage in his wake. Standing up Tsunade walked to the large window and looked out.
`That shinobi killer could be anywhere waiting to strike. Who are you and what do you want?' Tsunade mused to herself biting her bottom lip drawing blood. Tasting the copper like taste of blood she closed her eyes.
She could only wonder who was behind the massacre of her ninja. No matter how many she sent to find this killer it would be like they disappeared not leaving any clues but the white note, but desperate times called for desperate measures and she would not waste any more time.
-Konoha Training Ground #5-
Kakashi was currently training his team, which in other words meant he had his nose in his book nestled in a tree while his students trained. He briefly looked up when he felt an ANBU Black Ops member materialize on the branch where he was sitting. Looking at the ninja with a smile then returning back to his book he asked, “What can I do for you?”
“Kakashi-san you are to report to the Hokage right away. It's about another slaughter,” the ANBU reported in a hushed tone.
Looking up and over the rim of his book he nodded seriously and replied, “Alright then. Hold on.”
Jumping in front of his team he said, “Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke, keep training I'll be back.”
Stopping his training Naruto pointed his finger at the silver haired man and shouted, “Wha!? Kakashi-sensei we just started! Where the heck are you going?!”
Rolling his eyes Kakashi simply stated, “The Hokage called for me, so, keep training until I come back.” Then without another word both he and the ANBU teleported out of the training ground leaving a pissed Naruto.
“What do you think that was about,” Sakura asked walking behind Naruto. She had never seen Kakashi leave so fast
“It must have been really important because I've never seen Kakashi leave so fast!” Naruto exclaimed loudly. Sitting cross legged on the dirt he folded his arms and pondered what the situation was, then he stilled.
“Do you think it's about the ninja killer?”
“The ninja killer?” Sakura asked interested.
“Yeah, I heard there was a ninja killer on the loose killing off Ninja close by,” Naruto explained.
“That's really scary!”
“Well it's just a rumor!”
“I'm glad it's just a rumor, but really I think if it was true the Hokage and other ninja's would be panicking which their not.”
Unnoticed by the other two, Sasuke stopped training during there talk. Eyes narrowing he remembered something. When he was eating at the BBQ restaurant two days ago he heard two jounins talk in hushed voices about a ninja killer who only targeted Konoha nin brutally slaughtering them. The whole thing made him wonder if the rumors where even true, and if they were what would the village do in response. Shaking himself out of the useless thoughts he quickly threw another ninja star at a target. He didn't have time to think about such rumors when he had bigger things to worry about. Like training to become stronger and killing his brother.
-Hokage Tower-
“Another team Tsunade-sama?” Kakashi asked with a serious tone causing Tsunade to turn around from the window to face him. The look in her eyes already told him the answer, but the true proof was the hauntingly familiar white slip of parchment splattered in blood sitting innocently on the Hokage's desk.
“Is that-?” Kakashi asked.
“Yes, I'm afraid so,” Tsunade answered staring warily at the note. Picking it up she handed it to Kakashi and returned to staring out the window saying, “This is getting serious Kakashi, this is the seventh one, but we can't seem to find him it's like he disappears. I don't know if it's one person or a group of them.”
Nodding in agreement he opened the bloody note and read:
Dear Hokage-sama,
Your punishment and judgment will
be delivered soon. Until the culprits of my
sorrow are identified and disposed of
the price will be paid with your shinobi's
lives.
Kakashi noticed like usual there was not a name or anything that identified the killer. Folding the note up, he watched as his Hokage tensed up at the message in anger and worry. Every note they ever received was different, but what worried him was that the note stated “soon” and he wondered if there would be another attack on Konoha. Walking next to the Hokage and peering out into the view he asked, “Who do you think it is?”
Turning from the view of the village she looked at him and answered, “I don't know who, but I know it's not Orochimaru or the Akatsuki. Neither of them would leave a note behind, it's just not their style. The other villages wouldn't do something this stupid with the treaties within this village still standing.”
After a moment of silence Kakashi concluded, “From what I'm threading together I think this killer is a missing nin not a ninja from a village.”
“What do you mean? Then who?” Tsunade asked wondering what was going on in his head.
“You're correct about the Akatsuki and Orochimaru, it isn't their style, and also if this killer was from a village with an order to kill us they wouldn't do it on such a small scale. Which means that the village would have been attacked a long time ago with an army. A missing nin is not bound by law, but I researched in the bingo book and I didn't see anyone that could be our killer, but I'm pretty sure it's a missing nin with a grudge against Konoha,” he explained.
“A missing nin huh?” Tsunade asked herself under her breath.
Tearing her gaze from the sunset, Tsunade turned walking to her desk and sitting down. All these events were causing her extreme stress, and closing her eyes she could feel her body starting to suffer for it. After a moment of empty silence, and without opening her eyes she then questioned, “What do you think our next move should be? We don't have any clue who this person is or the grudge of this person.”
Looking at the woman strangely and talking in her tired appearance Kakashi leaned against the window. Closing his eyes he said, “Call a meeting and send out a good team of Jounins to scout and collect clues.”
“We've already done that and we lost that team of Jounins,” Tsunade retorted.
“Yes, but this time send me along as well,” Kakashi stated.
Opening her eyes at his suggestion the Hokage sighed, “You better not die. I'm running short on ninja's Kakashi.”
“Of course not.”
Taking a deep breath she then ordered, “Very well, go tell Asuma, Kurenai, and Gai to come to a meeting tomorrow at 12pm sharp. You come too Kakashi and don't you dare be late.”
“Would dream of it Hokage-sama,” Kakashi smiled and poofed out of the office.
-Konoha Forest (25 miles from Konoha-
A blood covered girl slowly walked into her camp that was set not too long ago. Grabbing bathing supplies she walked to the hot springs she discovered the morning before. This was Momochi Kagome the nine tailed dog youkai, a wander who killed Konoha nin where ever she traveled. With Long black hair a cold cobalt eyes she was the killing perfection, literally. She was the only demon gifted with a human form along with the standard animal form that every bijuu had. Even luckier for her since she had a human like form she could not be sealed into a human like other bijuu.
Sinking into the warm water, Kagome sighed in content. Grabbing shampoo and soap she then worked on removing the blood and pieces of flesh from her person. When she finished she removed herself from the water and sighed as the cool air nipped at her body. Quickly pulling on a royal blue fighting kimono she looked up at the blood red sunset. Feeling her heart twinge, she remembered a happier time when she could watch the sunset in happiness.
-One and 1/2 Years Ago-
“Haku isn't the sunset pretty?” Kagome asked leaning her head against the boy's slender shoulder.
“Hai,” Haku softly replied smiling at her. He felt so lucky to have such a beautiful and sweet partner.
“Ne, Haku-kun?” Kagome asked again, “Are you really going to fight that group of nin from Konoha tomorrow when I'm gone?”
“Hai, Zabuza-sama and I will confront them on the bridge,” Haku answered returning his gaze to the big orange and red semi circle in the distance.
“You better win, because it's bad enough that I can't fight too! Why does Zabuza have to send me on a mission tomorrow? I want to fight those nin too!” Kagome complained as she pouted.
Chuckling at his companions childish antics he tugged her closer and kissed her forehead saying, “Hai, hai, we will win, but something bothers me.” The last part was more to himself, but Kagome caught it.
Twisting her body she gazed at Haku's worried face and grew worried. “What is it that bothers you?”
After a moment Haku carefully explained, “Well it's just that they are really strong opponents. You saw what happened to Zabuza, if I didn't save him he would have died.”
Really he didn't want to worry her by saying that the Jounin of the group was the son of Konoha's famous White Fang, nor that he was facing against a member of the famous Uchiha clan. Haku knew that if he worried Kagome with information of the people they were up against, she would disobey Zabuza's orders and refuse to leave.
“You have no confidence in yourself Haku-kun! You are stronger than Zabuza so I have faith in you!” Kagome replied unworried.
Turning back around she snuggled in closer and laid her head on his chest. Encircling his arms around the girl he heard her say, “What ever happens you will win.”
Hugging her tightly he still felt insecure. Even with her support Haku felt doubt creeping up and for once he hasn't sure if he would come out of this battle alive. Looking up at the waning sun he could only hope everything went well.
End of Flash Back
Clenching her fist in anger Kagome punched the nearest tree leaving a nice sized hole going straight through the trunk. Eye's bleeding red she let out a long mournful howl. Konoha will pay for their actions and they will regret killing the most important person in her life, and when she found the team responsible she would make that their suffering ten fold to that of hers. Licking her bloody knuckle she laid against the tree she punched and fell into a slumber where everything was alright.
