Lavi groaned as he partially rolled over and glanced at his alarm clock. And he groaned again as he rolled back over onto his back. `It's too early for this…!'
In the next apartment over, he heard a constant banging and the shuffle of things across the floor, though what he was unsure of, followed by a string of incoherent curses; all he could really hear was a muffled, cursing voice. He hadn't had neighbors in months.
Knowing that he wouldn't be getting back to sleep anytime soon, he rolled and sat up, yawning and stretching as he sat on the edge of his bed clad in only his boxers. He only wished that his new neighbors wouldn't be this noisy every day at 9:30 in the morning. That was getting up early for him. Very early…
The red-headed teen went to college late in the afternoon and usually partied through most of the night, so this was definitely an intrusion to his usual sleep pattern. Plus, it was the weekend!
Not being able to take the noise any longer, Lavi stood and headed to the bathroom to begin his daily ritual, emerging about an hour later, still tired as hell, but dressed and his hair tamed and damp from his shower.
“Now what am I going to do to entertain myself for the next few hours?” he mused aloud as he headed to the kitchen for something to munch on. He wasn't used to extra time…
With nothing coming to mind, he decided to cook for the first time in weeks. He loved to cook, especially bake thing, like sweets. But since he had no one to cook for other than himself, he usually just made instant things or ate out at fast food places between classes and parties. But since he had time to actually make a decent meal and clean up after himself, he decided to have some eggs and pancakes, although the pancakes were from mix…
After he ate, he still had an hour to blow until he usually woke up and did his morning routine, so adding in that time, he still had about 2 hours until his usual shows came on. So that meant finding something else to watch.
But, fortunately for him, that something else wasn't something on the television.
He happened to glance shadows heading down the walkway, the sun behind these two people who had yet to reveal themselves, and when they finally did, Lavi couldn't tear his eyes away from the one person.
It was a father and son walking along of whom he was unfamiliar with, but of course it wasn't the father that caught his eye, but the son, who appeared to be about 17-18 years old with white, silvery hair that curved to fit his pale face and bring out the dull color in his grayish colored eyes. There was just something about him that Lavi couldn't look away from.
When the two disappeared from view of the open curtain window, Lavi was tempted to rush to the door and call after them to see if they were the new neighbors, which was a good possibility, but he didn't want to seem like a total freak to them.
So, instead he remained curled up on his black leather couch wrapped up in his plush blanket, running the image of this person over in his head.
And, yes, Lavi leaned that way, if you catch the drift. Sure, he'd had a girlfriend here and there, but that was just to pass the lonely nights. He hadn't dated a guy in ages it seemed like because all the good ones were taken; if he dated a guy, it was for a relationship. But he had yet to find Mr. Right.
“But he's too young,” Lavi sighed before he laughed wistfully. “I don't even know who he is or anything about him other than what he looks like. He's nothing but a high school brat…But still, he's cute.” The red-head then shrugged before fishing around in the couch cushions for the remote to his television, stopping as he seen the boy he had been mumbling about come rushing down the walkway, laughing.
And again Lavi's eyes followed him, entranced.
Then he heard the door next to his open and a few minutes later close, the teen reappearing once more and rushing back down the concrete to his father.
“At least I know who's living next door now…”
He sighed again and turned on the television, channel surfing, stopping on a cooking channel, getting this brilliant idea to invite the new neighbors over for dinner.
But that meant going out into public hours early to go grocery shopping…and there was no guarantee that they'd agree to come over in the first place. He sighed in defeat.
“I'm already obsessing over someone I know nothing about.”
For about 10 hours, he sat on his rear and watched TV, anything from cooking to fishing to some random drama or soap opera. He could really care less what he was watching because his mind was elsewhere. The only times he had gotten up was for a quick bathroom break or a snack.
As he turned off his TV, he stood and shed his blanket shell onto the couch before he started heading off the bathroom, when he glimpsed the pair walking back.
On a whim, the toilet need forgotten for the moment, he decided to go ahead to see if they were interested in dinner. So he headed to his front door and apparently opened it a bit to fast for the silver-haired boy's liking, as he jumped and nearly toppled over his father next to him, who was trying to open their door.
Lavi grinned sheepishly. “Sorry `bout that! Just wanted to see who the new neighbors were.”
The father smiled after regaining his balance and shook Lavi's hand, introducing himself as Mana.
“And you are?” Lavi inquired, cocking his head to the side slightly as he looked over the teen.
“Allen,” was all he said before his eyes found the cement beneath his feet.
“He's somewhat shy around new people,” Mana said.
`How cute,' the red head thought to himself, smiling. “Would you guys like to come over for dinner tonight?”
“Sorry, we already grabbed dinner while we were out.”
“How about tomorrow night then?”
Mana thought for a moment, then nodded. “I think we can do that, right Allen.”
And Allen nodded.
“I hope ya like sweets, `cause I'll be making plenty of them!”
At this, Allen's breath caught slightly as he looked up with wide, excited eyes, causing Mana to laugh.
“Allen loves sweet things. His favorite is peaches and cream pies.”
“Really? So you'll eat it if I make you one, Allen?”
Allen nodded with a small smile spreading across his lips.
“Alright then! Tomorrow night!”
“Okay, take care now, Lavi,” Mana said and disappeared through his door, Allen lingering a few moments later.
“Sorry I'm so quiet, Lavi,” he said. “I'm only used to being around my father. I've never had friends my age.”
“Don't you go to school?”
Allen shook his head. “I was home schooled for a couple years, then had a private teacher, and now I've been enrolled in college for about two years.”
“And how old are you?” he asked, puzzled.
“I'll be 18 in three weeks.”
“What day?”
“The 13th of April.”
“I'll keep that in mind.”
“When's yours?”
“The 31st of October. My favorite holiday! Candy until I puke my guts out!” Lavi laughed.
“I bet,” Allen smiled. “I'd better get inside. I still have some more unpacking to do before I can go to bed.”
“Alright, I'll see you around tomorrow, then.”
And with that, the silver-haired teen smiled and walked into his apartment, leaving Lavi grinning just inside his own door, pondering what he would be going to make for dinner the next evening and as well as finding a recipe for this pie.
`Soon to be 18 and already been in college, huh?' the green-eyed boy thought as he finally shut his front door and ventured back into his house, hearing more shuffling of things the next room over once he entered his room.
On the other side of that wall, Allen was struggling to get his sheets to stay on his new bed, cursing when one of the corners would come free on him. But once he finally won, he curled up on his bed and snuggled tight with his blanket against the cold air conditioning his father was already blasting, saying he was too hot while moving things around.
He smiled and sighed softly. He was going to like it here. He liked the city. He liked his neighbor. In fact, he wouldn't mind getting to know more about him. Maybe hang out over at his place more often than not, at least then he wouldn't be frozen to near death every day and he'd be around someone closer to his own age for once. And once he drifted off to dream land some hour or so later, Lavi seemed to haunt his dreams…
