Concrete Angel
Dark stares into the cemetery where she lays alone in the cold ground, and a very inappropriate place for such a kind sweet young girl. It just isn't fair that she had to die at a young age! She was only around five or six years old? It is his fault she died he couldn't get to her. He tried his best but he couldn't get to her. He glances at the bag he was holding again, gripping it tighter as memories flashes through his mind and tears spills from his eyes.
She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
Dark watched as a small girl walked to school with a smell worn paper bag. She seemed to be fighting back tears as she walked towards the school grounds. She stopped and set down under the oak tree under ware Dark was sitting. She pulled her knees to her chest and cried, hiding her face in her arms. Dark leapt down from the tree and knelt down in front of her. He lifted her face till there eyes met. Her dirty/oily mud colored hair hung limply in her dirty tear stained face as her chocolate brown eyes met his.
Her chocolate brown eyes filled with a fresh flow of tears as she threw herself into Darks arms and cried hopelessly into his chest. He gently pulled her away and looked at her, “What's Wrong, Ryann (Rye-Anne)?” Ryann looked up at Dark and whipped her eyes and said, “I fell down” She pulled up her dress showing Dark her hurt knee. Dark observed the knee wound noticing some other bruises that covered her leg. Ryann stood up and hugged Dark who had bandaged her knee. He then walked with her to the schoolhouse.
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born
Dark set in a tree by Ryann's classroom window and watched as the class went on. Ryann took off her linen and lace jacket. Dark's eyes grew wide as he saw bruises all over her small frail arms as the teacher looked at her questioningly. When the lunch bell rang the teacher called Ryann to her desk and almost asked her about the bruises, but stopped when Ryann smiled brightly at her and raced out the door into the hallway.
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Dark walked beside Ryann as they walked through the rain with the wind blowing heavily on them. They rounded the corner as Dark took Ryann's hand and said, “Ryann, you know you can tell me anything right?” Ryann nodded as they stood in front of her house. Dark looked down at Ryann who seemed to stiffen up, “You might want to go, because mom might see you,” Dark nodded and started away as Ryann turned and smiled at him, “Thank for not only being my Angel Dark, but my friend as well” Dark smiled “who couldn't want to be friends with someone like you?” Ryann smiled again and reluctantly went inside.
Dark stood there a moment not really wanting to leave her but he had to get Daisuke home for a party his mother and he were attending. Dark told himself that after the party he would come by later tonight. Dark knew Ryann always kept her window open for him.
Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late
Dark flew as fast as he could towards Ryann's home, something told him that she needed him and he had to get their. He heard cries coming from Ryann's house with neighbors all around with their lights out. When Dark reached Ryann's house he saw Ryann being dragged out into the hallway. Dark flew to Ryann's window finding it sealed tight. He saw shadows of two figures threw Ryann's partly open door.
“RYANN!” Dark shouted as he pounded on the window and fighting to get it open without much luck, the rain poured heavily and hopelessly around him. “NO…RYANN?” Tears spilled over Dark's eyes as he heared screaming, cursing and banging sounds coming from the hall. Dark shook and pounded fiercely on the window unable to get it open. But he cringed and tried harder to get into the house every time her heard and saw the shadows of Ryann being hit.
Dark's eyes grew wide was he saw Ryann's body fell limply and her small arm fell bloodily into view. “RYANN!” Dark shouted as Ryann's mother stagger drunk out of the house leaving the front door partly open. Dark raced into the house and up the stairs into the hallway. Dark froze when he saw Ryann's small frail body lay broken in the hallway blood all around her. Dark staggered towards her and dropped down beside her. He scooped up her frail rag doll body into his arms rocking back and forth as he sobbed. “I'm sorry, I'm so sorry”

Dark carried her to the bed and laid her down as he cradled her body next to his as the rain. He remembered the look on her face earlier that day, when he left her after school. Her face was so pail and cold, as if she was trying to be brave but yet she was afraid. Now he understood why she always tried to hide when she was afraid. But he could understand why she never told him or why he never figured it out? This was entirely his fault, his gut told him not to leaver, but he did anyway! He KILLED her, HE KILLED HIS LITTLLE FRIEND!
A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot
Dark now stands at the foot of the grave that rests under the shade of an Oak tree. He places a Ryann's favorite teddy bear on one side of the gravestone. He glances at the fresh small group of roses that lay in the center of the grave as tears spill from his eyes once again. He then swallows hard and begins to read the gravestone. “ Here lies Ryann Emiko Chang, the little angel. Born: September 14, 1999- Died: November 17, 2005” Dark whips the tears from his eyes as more forms within moments. He sniffs as tears drop to the ground as he pulls out another teddy bear from the bag he was carrying and places it on the other side of the grave. He brought the other bear because Ryann never liked to leave one bear by it's self, she always' afraid that one bear would get lonely. Dark stands a moment more till he turns away from the grave.

Dark starts towards the cemetery gate and pauses at the sound of children's giggles coming from behind him. He slowly turns and sees Ryann waving at him smiling brightly. Dark was shocked for a moment, and then returned her smile. He waves back as a group of children appears and shouts Ryann's name. She smiles at Dark again, waves one more time before turning and running to the group of children who slowly vanishes as they ran of to play. Dark walks out of the cemetery glancing back towards Ryann's grave a moment then walks away with a small smile crossing his sad face.
