Chapter 5: “Lit with Fireworks”

(Satoshi's POV)

"Niwa...," I pushed on his shoulder, "Niwa," and still the sleepy head thief wouldn't stir.

Not to be hypocritical, but he wasn't the best morning person. Probably the worse I know. "Niiwwaaaa," I nibbled on his ear.

"Ohmmmnn!" his eyes popped open. Finally.

"Finally up?" I teased, "Or does the little, sleepy boy still need sleep?"

"No...," he ducked his head into the crook of my neck to hide from the light. It was unexpected, but I've gotten used to this cute behavior of his.

"Niwa, it's time to get up."

"What time is it?" he asked sleepily.

"Nine thirty."

"You can get up first."

"How can I when you are still clinging to me?"

He jumped back, failed at hiding his blushing face, and flipped over onto his right side. "You know what surprised me, Niwa?"

"Hmm?"

"You usually toss and turn during the night, but last night, you appeared absolutely peaceful lying asleep in my arms." He remained silent. "Still blushing, Niwa?"

He shook his head, but I knew he was lying. It was adorable the way he expressed himself. "Get up, or we'll miss the morning buffet."

He rolled the blankets around him, and cuddled up into a ball. I giggled. This was so adorable. I had the greatest sleep on my life, last night, and in the morning, he even displayed some of his more childish acts. I loved it all.

(Forty Five Minutes Later)

After collecting some of what seemed like edible items, I joined Niwa and....unfortunately, the Harada's at a selected table. "So, Ms. Harada, did you ever find that feather?"

"Yes, I did, and I was really happy!"

"Is that so?" I took a sip of my hot chocolate.

"Hey, later tonight we are going back to see the fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower!" Daisuke exclaimed.

"Are you serious?! Omigod! That's great! I was so disappointed yesterday when it was canceled," yeah, maybe you, but not me, "But we're getting a second chance!"

"Wow. That's really nice," Riku commented.

"I guess so. If you like fireworks," I said.

"What?! How can you hate fireworks, Hiwatari-san?" Risa asked me.

"I never said that I hate them."

"I don't know how anyone could hate them. I've always loved them… since I was a little girl. And now, I love them even more. You what I like best about them? Don't answer, I'll tell you. I love how the go flying into the dark sky, then burst out into red and blue....and....."

Red...and blue, huh? I lost Risa's annoying voice in my head as I thought about those two colors. I fancied the red representing Daisuke's crimson hair, and the blue representing my ice blue hair. Red and blue together. It's as it should always be. And, as I always want it to be. I always want to be with Daisuke, "Quite talkative today, aren't we, Ms. Harada?"

"Yes. I'm in a good mood today, because all last night, I've been thinking of something."

Yeah, and all last night was wet fun for me. So she better dare not ruin my memory of last night. "Satoshi Hiwatari," she was the last person I wanted to hear my name spill from.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I don't know any other way of saying this, so I'll ask you straight, will you go out with me?!"

(What the fuck?! Who'd want to go out with a crazy bitch like you?! )

For once I agreed with Krad. Who in the right mind would want to go out with Risa?! I couldn't even believe that she had ask me such a thing! Does she want to condemn my already damned soul? "Why?"

"I really, really like you, Hiwatari. And I want to be with you. I can't bare the idea of losing you to another girl!"

When I thought she couldn't get anymore of a idiot than she already was, she comes up with this. Really, losing me to another girl. I lost all interests in girls once I met Daisuke. Why would I want to date one now? (Hmm, lets think about this Satoshi. Daisuke and you, you're both guys. Do you think that Daisuke would ever take you hand? I think that you need to get your head out of that little cloud, and accept the blowing truth of reality. Daisuke is dating Riku. He's a good kid. I doubt that he would cheat on her, especially for someone like you.)

And I thought that you cared about me.

(I do. I care about your benefits. Why does a person like you want with an idiot like Daisuke?)

Riku is more of an idiot.

(I know that, but at least you can be more open when dating her. So, what I am trying to get at is: date the dummy. This may be better for the both of you.)

I looked around the table. Riku was holding her breath, and Daisuke was looking down at the floor with his eyes shut. Riku seemed to be for us dating, but Daisuke didn't seem like he cared at all. "Please. Hiwatari."

I looked back at Daisuke hoping that he would look at me and with just that one look, it would waver my decision. I waited for a few seconds more and when he did not look at me, I turned towards Risa. “I'll go out with you, Risa.”

(Daisuke's POV)

No...no, no, no, NO! I knew Satoshi loved Risa, but I never thought that he would actually date her! This...this couldn't be happening. (Calm down, Daisuke. It's for the better.)

How can this be for the better?!

(Nothing can be gained from two guys, such as Satoshi and yourself.)

I don't care! I don't care, I don't care!

I was feeling all sorts of emotions at once: hate, fear, denial, anguish, betrayal, and it was all being stirred together by a jagged blade in my heart. It all hurt so much. I knew this day would eventually come, but why does he have to love Risa? "Congrats, Risa," Riku cheered.

"Risa...did you just call me Risa?" Risa asked Satoshi, remembering his words when he agreed to date her.

"Yes. I called you Risa."

She blushed, "Ohimgod! You called me Risa. You are so romantic, Satoshi."

All he did was say her name. (It's a big deal to her I guess. But you have to remember, this is Risa. But, I don't recall him ever saying your name.)

Because I never invited him to, but now I wish I did. "I didn't do anything, Risa."

"You said my name. I finally was able to hear it in your voice."

He smiled at her. She smiled at him, then she leaned towards him. Resting one hand on his flushed cheek, and kissed the corner of his lips... (Daisuke. Whatever you chose to do, be a man. Don't cry.)

I hated Risa... I hated Satoshi too... I hated him, I hated him, I hated him! And yet, I loved him. (Daisuke?)

I won't cry, because I knew it was never meant to be. I'll just have to bare this agony in my already shattered heart.

SATOSHIHIWATARISATOSHIHIWATARISATOSHIHIWATARI

It's been several hours since the moment they walked, hand-in-hand, out of the restaurant. I haven't seen Satoshi since, and I wanted to avoid seeing him the rest of the day. In turn though, I knew I would see him later tonight. “I'm gonna cry when I see him,” I whispered to myself.

Riku tried to keep me company, but several times today, I've dozed off while she was talking about...whatever girls talk about, and thank god she hasn't noticed that I haven't really been myself today. So, now here we are at a snack bar. They have my favorite snacks, but I didn't want anything. Afterwards, Riku lead me to a park bench under a tree. I sat down next to Riku, and then she asked me, "Daisuke. You know, you can tell me if something is bothering you." I guess she has noticed that I've been a little out of it today.

"Yes, I know," I looked at her, showing her the true emotions that I felt deep inside. The emotions that were hurting to keep locked up, "But this is something that has to work itself out."

"Is it us?"

Yes. I want to break up with Riku, but then who would I turn to for comfort when Satoshi was currently dating Riku? (There's always me.)

I don't want advice, Dark. I want someone to hold me, and tell me everything is gonna be ok. You can't do that Dark, because we are one. "No. It's not us."

"Is it Risa and Satoshi?"

Yes! I want Risa torn to bits! I hate her guts! How dare she claim Satoshi?! Even if I knew that this was how it should be, I couldn't stop this feeling that there was something wrong with all this. "No. It has nothing to do with anyone. Only me," ...and Satoshi.

"Ok, Daisuke. I hope you work everything out."

She had no idea what I was going through. Riku finished her snack, then took a look at her watch, "Daisuke, we should be heading over to the Eiffel Tower."

"Fireworks?"

"Yeah, they are starting in like an hour, but we should get there early to find a good place to stand."

(Just go, Daisuke. It doesn't matter if you see creepy boy. It's too late for you now anyways.)

It does matter to me. He can date anyone he likes, but it'll never stop me from loving him. All it'll do is tear me, and tear me, and tear me until I become numb; knowing that he has given his heart to someone other than me.

"Ok. Let's start heading over there." I'll try to convince myself that it's just a crush. That way I can hope to get over him, and end my suffering, because nothing hurts quite like unrequited love.

DAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWADAISUKENIWA

It wasn't too far away from the park Riku and I were at, so it didn't take long for us to arrive at our destination. Almost as soon as we arrived, someone called out to us, "Niwa! Riku!"

I turned around, and caught a most rattling sight of Risa hanging off Satoshi. Why couldn't that be...me?

"We're so excited! I love fireworks!" Risa shouted, "And so does Satoshi, right?"

"Sure. They're nice to watch."

Risa pulled Satoshi's arm around herself, and said aloud, as if to make sure we can hear her, "Satoshi, hold me."

(Daisuke?)

It's alright, Dark. There's no point in getting upset at her. So I shouldn't interfere with their… (You're torn and confused, aren't you?)

He's hugging her, just like how he held me last night. In a tight and loving embrace. Just like all the other couples. (Hmm, it seems that everyone is hugging around here.)

Yes, now that you mention it... there are more hugging couples here than anything else. "Riku, why don't we hold each other like everyone else?"

She folded herself into my arms, and wrapped her arms around my neck. I held her by the waist, but Satoshi remained to have my undivided attention. Still in denial, I can't believe that after everything that we shared, he ends up breaking my heart, and it pained all the more to keep these tears locked up inside.

(Satoshi's POV)

My heart has been sore in agony all day, ever since I agreed to go out with Risa. And now to make matters worse, Daisuke was holding Riku before my eyes, writhing my heart all the more, and it hurt like nothing I ever felt before. I doubt that Daisuke had any idea how jealous I was and envious all at the same time of Riku. She's a girl, so she can have him and because I'm a guy, I can't. Daisuke wasn't and never will be mine to claim, but still I couldn't stand watching them cuddle. (A little possessive, are we?)

I should have said no to Risa. I've never met a girl as irritating and stupid as her.

(Nevermind her, Satoshi, I have a plan.)

What sort of plan?

(Satoshi, when the crowd pushes forwards, let go of Risa, and grab a hold of Daisuke as fast as you can. You see that building, there's a back door that doesn't have a lock, and it leads straight to the roof. Take Daisuke there, and then you'll have Daisuke to yourself.)

Why are you telling me this? And how do you know all that?

(I have my ways. So, just trust me.)

I can't do that. He'll be furious.

(You think so?)

I know so. He loves Riku. He has always loved her.

(He doesn't love her, stupid.)

What?

(Ask him yourself.)

Suddenly the first fireworks shot into the black night, brightening it with the colors of blue, red, and white. This first display caught everyone's attention, and as Krad said, the crowd began to push forwards. I didn't have much time to act, so I instantly released Risa, and the crowd swept her away from me. I don't think she even had the time to call out my name. Excellent. I turned around, having to fight off the crowd as I held my ground searching for Daisuke, and I found him. He had already lost Riku, which made it all the easier for me to sweep him away from this savage crowd. I moved back towards him, and grasped a hold of his opened hand. "What? Hiwatari-san, what are you doing?"

"Come on. I know where we can get a better view."

"What about Riku and Risa?"

"What about them?" I looked back, giving him a smirk.

I finally saw him smile, and we escaped the crowd. Pulling him out of the crowd was a bit easier than I thought, thank god, and afterwards I lead him to the old office building that was just where Krad had told me. We went around the back, and the back door just swung open after just a little push. "Should we really be doing this?" his voice was filled with worry.

Turing around, I grasped a hold of his other hand, and tugged him into the building, "Yes. We should."

There wasn't a lot of light, but there was just enough to see where we were going. He held onto me as I lead him up the stairs, then I pushed on the exit door, and we found ourselves of the roof, just as Krad had said. "Wow! Hiwatari-san! It's really a great view!"

"Yes, it is. And free of the rough crowds," it's just perfect for the two of us to be alone.

Daisuke ran to the edge, like the cute fool he was, and I had to pull him back, "Idiot. We can't be seen up here, or we'll get in trouble."

"I'm sorry. Are you mad at me?"

How could I ever be? "No. I am just worried that someone will see us."

He nodded understandingly, and then we sat down together. (See! Who told ya?!)

I guess I owe you one, Krad. (You sure do. However, even after all that work, you guys are sitting so far from each other?)

It's a warm night. There is no need for body heat.

(It was warm last nigh, but the two of you still found a way to sleep in each other's arms.)

I signed. I wasn't gonna force Daisuke to do anything that he didn't want to do. And then, as if he had peered into my thoughts, Daisuke got up, and crawled over to me, making himself comfortably between my legs, and then rested his back against my chest. "Niwa?"

"Hiwatari-san, call me Daisuke from now on, ok?"

(Awww, he's making the first move.)

"Alright, just so long as you address me as Satoshi."

"Satoshi..."

"Yes, just like that," I wrapped my arms around his shoulders to pull him closer, and he rested his head on my shoulders. I wondered if he was really paying any attention to the fireworks, or if he was fantasizing about something else? Whichever he was doing, I knew that I was watching the fireworks as they launched into the sky, and coincidently the two main colors were blue and red; I dared to see them as a representation of Daisuke's and my relationship.
