Chapter 9: “Cold and Distant”
(Daisuke's POV)
I ran through the garden of trees. I was determined to find Krad and Riku! I just hoped that Riku was alright.... "Daisuke! Wait up!"
We weren't able to calculate the distance from where they had landed, so here we were, running through the enormous garden full of trees calling out their names, "Satoshi! Riku!"
"Daisuke! I found Riku!"
I stopped, and ran in the direction of Risa's voice, "Is the angel there too?"
"No, and thank God!"
Damn! Where had Krad landed then?!
I approached Risa from behind, and looked over her shoulder. There was Riku, lying asleep, or maybe unconscious! It was hard to tell. I looked up to get an estimate of how bad her fall might have been, and while I did so, I noticed the broken branches and fallen leaves. "She must have crushed through."
"Why are you so calm?! My sister could be dead!"
Risa touched Riku's forehead, and called out to her, "Riku! Riku! Are you still alive?! Answer me!"
There was no answer.
"Riku! Riku! Please don't die on me!"
I crept around Risa, and knelt down before Riku's still body. I relaxed my ear on her chest to see if I could get a heart beat.

"Her heart's still beating."
I then rested my hand under her nose. I could feel her warm breath, "And she's breathing."
"Oh, thank goodness!"
"But she might be unconscious."
I didn't want to handle Riku knowing that after that fall, her body must have been in so much pain that even the slightest movement could've intensified her. "Get help. We can't move her on our own."
Risa ran to get assistance, and as soon as she was out of sight, I looked around the area to see if I could spot either Krad or Satoshi; But I didn't have any luck. I looked up at the branches of the trees again. It was only broken above the area where Riku had landed, but there showed no signs of another body breaking through. I sat down beside Riku's body, resting my face in my hands. I knew that there was no way that Krad would let Satoshi die. "There's just no way..."
(Satoshi's POV)
I could hear quiet winds blowing across my ears. I slowly opened my eyes.... but the area was unfamiliar. “Krad? Where are...we?”

(I don't know. When you started trying to take over again, I couldn't see straight…It's unclear, but I remember something about dropping the girl… and…)
"YOU let her FALL?!"
(I can't remember if I caught her then released her, or if she fell to her death. I couldn't see straight, remember?! That's why every time that you try to take over again, I make sure I'm somewhere safe. Finding a safe place for you to transform back is the most important thing to be besides protecting your life).

“I appreciate the concern, but where the hell are we?” I lifted my body in order to scrutinize the area, and....ohmigod....., "Krad! You had to leave me here on the edge of a cliff?!"
(What?! Oh…I see what you mean. I didn't mean to, but hey, you can see the hotel from here. It's a nice view.)
(What?! Oh…I see what you mean. I didn't mean to, but hey, you can see the hotel from here. It's a nice view.)
“You flew all the way over here, and you claim you couldn't see straight?!”
(Hey, at least you aren't injured. Also, there shouldn't be too many more problems with Riku, and I'm sure that Risa will also stay away.)
“Did you have to do that, Krad? Everything would have worked itself out eventually.” (But it was taking too damn long!)
“I learned how to be patient, so you should too. Now, I'll be lucky if Daisuke will ever look at me again. He probably hates my guts by now for hurting his precious friend....”
I cuddled up against the edge, looking over at the hotel. "That night I saw them at the beach.... They looked so happy together."
(Looks can be deceiving.)

"But why would he kiss her if he didn't have any feelings for her?!"
(You're too hard on yourself, Satoshi.)
(You're too hard on yourself, Satoshi.)
"Daisuke is the first person that I've ever learned to love. He's too precious to me. I don't want to lose his friendship, so maybe it would be best if I didn't return for a while longer."
(Get up. We have to go back. You're worrying the little red head sick.)

“How am I suppose to get back when I'm here stuck on the top of a cliff?!”
(Let me out. I promise I won't hurt anyone.)
"Very well."

I sat there by Riku's side. Risa had already fallen asleep holding her sister's hand in hers. The office was quiet, and occasionally a nurse would walk in to see if she there were any changes. Other than that, this place was empty. (Any sign of Krad?) I've kept looking outside to see if I caught a glimpse of the white angel flying, but so far, there was none. Dark said that he hasn't even sensed Krad's presence. Soon, it began to rain. I could have fallen asleep to the sound of rain, but the bright lights kept me awake. "Where did Satoshi go?"
(Who knows. Krad is great at finding places to hide. You know, they are gonna question you.)

Yes, I know.
(Aren't you worried?)
Not really.
(And why is that?)
Because Riku and Risa know that I didn't do anything.
(Did you ever call out to Krad?)
What do you mean? (Like, did you ever speak his name?)
Ohmigod! Yes!
(Great job, Daisuke.)
Shut up! I don't want to hear it anymore!
(Fine. I'll shut up.)
I held onto Riku's wrist to check her pulse, but then I found that I was so tired that before I really knew what happened, I was falling over and onto her shoulders. I must have been worn out.
(Satoshi's POV)
I wanted to see if Riku was alright. The nurse at the front desk said that she was on the third floor, so there I was, making my way to her room. Before entering the room, I peaked in to see Daisuke resting at the side of her bed. I turned around. I was about to walk away, but then I heard Krad's voice... (And where do you think you are going)?

Away from here.
(What?! Daisuke's right there, you idiot! Go in!)
I don't want to intrude on Daisuke, Risa, and Riku.
(Whoever said that you're intruding?!)
No one needs to tell me. I'll feel outta place. I'm sure they know that I'm the angel. Daisuke just had to yell out my name...
(I told you he's and idiot.)
Yes, but a very cute idiot.
I couldn't erase that adorable smile that appeared in my mind. Reluctantly, I found myself turning around. To quell my desire to see Daisuke again, I opened the door, and went in to find Daisuke resting his head on Riku's shoulder, and holding onto her hand.....
(Daisuke's POV)
The sound of the opening door stirred me from my sleep. I peeked out through one eye, and even though everything was blurry, I could still see a tall, slim man walking in with blue hair... BLUE HAIR?! "Satoshi?"
I lifted my head, arose, and looked over to him. He turned his face towards me, but instead of seeing his gentle smile, he gave me a cold glare. I felt my stomach contract. Why was he looking at me so coldly? (Ouch... I never knew he could be so cold.) "Satoshi?"
"I'm not here to see you. I'm here to see Riku," he turned away from me, and walked over to Riku's side.
It's nice that he came here to see her, but he didn't have to say it in such a rude way. It was as if he was angry towards me. He looked down at Riku, and touched her warm cheek. He gave a concerned look, then he turned to see Risa staring at you. "Satoshi? What are you doing here?"
"I came to check up on Riku."
Satoshi spoke rudely to me, but calmly to his girlfriend? Was he embarrassed because they caught us earlier in each others' arms? If so, why did he do it then? Does he feel that uncomfortable when it comes to me? Am I that much an embarrassment to him?! "I'm glad that you did. Oh, Satoshi, did you see the white angel?"
"Yes. I did."
"Then why didn't you come down to help?" she asked him.
"I have my reasons."
"What reasons could have been more important?!” Risa asked.
"The crowd was pushing me away, and several officers kept me from getting to you guys."
"Oh. I see."
What Satoshi did next was something that could have made me scream if I wasn't in the same room as him and Risa. He walked away from Riku, and over to her sister, and quickly glanced over to me as he embraced her. I bit down on my lower lip, trying to hold in my cry. "It'll be ok, Risa. Riku will be fine."
I turned my head away. Why did he look back at me like that? Did he want to make sure that I saw him take Risa into his arms? Did he like to see me like this? What pleasure could he be getting outta this? "Daisuke? Are you ok? You look a little bit tense?" I was surprised that Risa even noticed me. I was hoping that she would just mind her own business.
"I'm fine," no I wasn't.
"Are you sure?" she asked while pulling away from Satoshi's embrace.
"I'm sure," shut up! Anymore questions, and I'm gonna cry!
"I have to go," Satoshi said.
"I'll see you tomorrow then," Risa replied.
"I don't think we will. I'm going to be busy for the next few days."
"You mean you are going to be doing work while on this trip?!"
"Yes."
"I see. Ok then. Good luck, Satoshi."
Satoshi waved, then turned walking towards the door, "Satoshi, are you going to clear your stuff from the room," I asked.
He remained silent for a few seconds, then said, "Yes. I am also going to be staying at a different hotel."
I clenched my fist. Why was everything going down the hill at once?! "I see...."
"Goodbye, Daisuke," with that he left the room… and left me with a heavy heart....
(Satoshi's POV)
I couldn't believe what I just did.... (Did you enjoy that little show you displayed?)

I couldn't believe what I just did.... (Did you enjoy that little show you displayed?)
I didn't want Daisuke to tell me off about what had happened. So I....
(Don't you want his love? Don't you care about what he might be feeling?!)
I didn't just want his love. I need it, I crave it, I desire it, I fantasize about it. I've gone outta my mind trying to find ways to be with Daisuke, and now I have limited options. I never thought I could summon up enough courage to ask him to dance, and when he accepted, I wanted to keep him close. I wanted to see if he did feel anything for me, I wanted to drive those three precious words from his thoughts, and to my ears, so I could hear them. That was my last attempt to bring him closer to me. If he did love me, as Krad has said, then he'll have to bring us the rest of the way, because I've run out of ideas. I just wanted all the pain I felt to stop. I was sick and tired of feeling jealous every time I saw Daisuke with Riku, and to make matters worse, I couldn't suppress my love for him. Maybe I needed to feel rejection, "Tell me, Krad, have I lost my mind....?"
(Daisuke's POV)
'Goodbye, Daisuke', how could he have said such a thing. I wanted to stab him in his heart so he could get a feel for what he was doing to me. He couldn't just walk away from me! Even if he intended on avoiding me, I was not gonna allow that to happen. "Risa, I have to go.
"Ok. I'm gonna stay here."
I ran from the room, and searched the halls to see if I could find Satoshi. But he had already vanished from the hospital. "Damn it."
I ran to our hotel room, but upon coming, I saw a man hulling his suitcase out of the room. I ran in, but Satoshi wasn't there. The room seemed so empty without him, so lonely, too quite. It seemed like he was going out of his way to avoid me. I sat on the bed and before I decided to give into the anger and pain that had been building up inside of me, I tried to think of a way to lure Satoshi back in so I could finally get a chance to talk with him. I couldn't ignore what had been happening to us during the last few days. There has been so much frustrations and lately we've come so close. I couldn't let Satoshi destroy everything. I need to see him privately. (And tell me, Daisuke. How are you gonna do that? I don't think a simple trick is gonna work on someone of his intelligence.)

Of course a simple trick wouldn't work on him, but a trap might do just the trick. I ran to the phone by the bed, and dialed my home number. I waited for a few seconds while the phone rang....

"Hello?"
"Mom!"
"Daisuke? Oh, is that you sweetie?! How's France? Are you ok? Are you safe? Have you met a decent girl? Have you had any romance?"
"Everything's fine, Mom, but I need you to do me a favor."
"Yes?"
"Is there anything here to steal?" I knew my mother would never pass up an opportunity to steal a precious artifact.
"Yes! There is! There's a painting about three feet tall called 'Fire and Ice'. It's a painting of cold fire surrounding a silver diamond. It's not a popular painting, but since you are there, you might as well steal it! I'll send Wiz over there, and I'll send out a warning note A.S.A.P. for tomorrow night!"
"Thanks mom. You don't know how big of a favor you are doing for me."
"Glad to help in anyway, Daisuke!"
I hung up and collapsed on the bed, grinning. (Clever, clever, clever. I knew you had a brain in that air head of yours.)

I was desperate enough to try anything.
(Interesting plan. You are gonna lure him straight into a trap that not even the genius, Satoshi Hiwatari can maneuver around. I like your style.)
I wasn't too focused on stealing the painting. I could always come back for that later. Satoshi was all that I wanted and Satoshi was what I was gonna have. “Dark, I'm gonna need your cooperation.”
(As much as I don't want to, because it's gonna ruin my reputation…Oh, to hell with it. I'll help. But I'm not kissing Krad!)
I giggled. That would be hilarious. No, Dark. I'm not gonna make you kiss Krad. I need you to do something else for me.
A/N: Can you guess what he's gonna make him do? ^_^ To find out, review and wait patiently for the next chapter.
