A constellation once seen
Over Royal David's city
An epiphany you burn so pretty
Yeah, you are a shining light
---
The clouds hid the silvery moon above, and the darkness descended to the cold ground below, covering the tall, pale building belong to the Hikari with the enigma that only the night could bring. It wasn't like the other nights; those nights when he'd succeeded in stealing many art pieces from the ancient family. His heart pounded just slightly faster tonight, telling him that something was off from what he had predicted.
But he couldn't slow his speed any more than he could stop his quickening pulse.
There was no sign of guards around the construction, there were no lights on in the towers. But he was certain that there would be a group of people guarding the artwork he was supposed to steal that night. The Hikari had received his warning yesterday, and it would be foolish of them not to take precautions against the legendary thief's actions.
He looked up to the dark sky, eyes darting to the tall towers, feeling something as the wind blew his bangs and cleared his vision. Goosebumps covered his skin; the cold crept up his spine. Something was following him. No, something... or more exactly someone, was watching him.
Could it be....
But that wasn't possible. He hadn't seen anyone guarding the damn place, and if they had spotted him, there was no way they would have let him get this far. Except if there were traps. Traps.... Why hadn't he thought about that earlier? Why the hell did he take this path to get inside the building instead of flying from the roof with the help of With? But no, he didn't bring With on this mission, no matter how strongly his master urged him to. He didn't want anyone to go with him tonight. He wanted to be alone, and maybe... just maybe, he could see him again.
Oh great, just because you wanted to see the maniacal blond, you went by yourself into a snake pit. The Niwa family would be so proud, Dark Mousy...
He rolled his eyes and pulled his gloves tighter, speeding up his run to the nearest wall. He should really get inside and take whatever that thing was they called the Light Ametrine crystal.
The nearest window was beside the balcony on the second floor, just above his head. He took a few steps back before jumping up; it was easy to do with the help of a little magic, but any thief could've done it. The window was another problem, but he always had a set of lockpicks under his sleeves.
By the time he stepped into the hallway, he had that feeling of being watched back again. He turned the next corner, hoping that he was heading in the right direction. He could be in real trouble if he got lost. He was certain that he remembered the map correctly. There would be a big door into the main tower just up ahead, and it led right to the room where the crystal was kept.
So where was that door anyway...?
The thief's eyes swept the dark hallway; everything was so quiet. Too quiet. He couldn't hear anyone approaching, and he thought about the traps again. Shaking his head, he knew that he was headed in the right direction now. The air surrounding him started to change, filled with the cold aura he recognized so well.
"You're here after all..." And even though his heart beat twice as fast, his lips curved into a smile.
He stopped at the end of the hallway, a white wall blocking his way. A dead end. The thief smirked, planting his palm over the wall. The wall was surrounded with a sealing magic. He closed his eyes as he cast the spell. It was a risky thing to do, for there was no guarantee he could get out safely from inside the room; but he had not come this far for nothing.
And someone was probably waiting for him there....
* * * * *
He had been waiting far too long for the night to come....
The white clad figure smiled just slightly as he felt his hunted one approaching closer and closer. He could feel the heat, the anticipation in his blood, to finally see him again after so long. He was more than ready with a welcome ritual for his archenemy. He would really want to see the thief beg for his mercy, to see him suffer under his hand, and finally die in the most painful way.
But not tonight.
He had his own goals tonight and a mistake in his plan would be intolerable. Everything must flow normally as he had planned. Tonight was the perfect night, he thought dimly as he looked up and saw the full moon hanging in the sky. The Niwa must know it too... the power inside the crystal would reach its highest level tonight, a time for separation, and that's why they had sent Dark Mousy to steal it. They wanted to prevent the power falling into the hands of the Hikari. But even the Hikari didn't know that he also wanted it.
And he would have it...
If he could only....
But he needed the thief's cooperation... and if he didn't get it....
Smiling lazily, he jumped down from the tall window to the middle of the room. A crystal floating under violet and golden lights. His wings spread and disappeared before he stepped closer, watching the crystal more carefully.
"Soon now... I shall have the power within you," he whispered, mostly to himself. Slowly before him, the door started to shift. A black clad young man stood there. Another cruel smile appeared on his face.
His archenemy had arrived.
Taking a step back, he camouflaged himself within the shadows.
* * * * *
As the wall lifted to reveal the door, he could see bright, serene light covering the whole room, a combination of violet and gold colors. The walls and floors were painted with runic letters, spells of the Hikari. He could feel wind brushing his hair and looked up to see opened glass windows reaching up the higher walls to the glass dome. The moon had made her reappearance from behind the clouds, hanging gracefully in the dark, starry sky. This was it. He had found the secret room of the Light Ametrine.
But where....
His mouth opened as he saw the violet and golden lights join into one in the middle of the room, illuminating a small rectangular crystal floating in the air. The crystal had two colors, spinning purple into gold, a divine combination he would never have thought existed in this world. He walked closer to observe the crystal, feeling for any more spells. It felt so warm to just stand beside it. He realized that the magic aura that had captivated him the minute he entered the chamber was coming from the crystal.
He stretched his hand closer, but then....
"Beautiful, isn't it?" A familiar voice was heard and the thief raised his head. "...Dark Mousy."
Dark smiled as his gaze met a pair of cold golden eyes belong to the white-clad creature. A wicked smile crossed the demon's face and Dark swallowed hard, half in surprise, and somehow he knew that half of it was because of the excitement. "Krad," he acknowledged. "Have you been waiting for me long?"
Krad chortled lightly. "Far too long considering that there aren't any guards around."
The violet-eyed thief frowned. "So it was your doing all along; what are you scheming now?"
"I took the liberty of taking care of you myself tonight. You should be honored."
Dark smiled. "I came here to take the Light Ametrine, and not to have a nice chat." He took a step back from the floating crystal and peered at the ice demon. "And I suppose you're going to stop me?"
The laughter that came next was not what Dark had expected from Krad. The golden eyes brightened with something he had never seen before, and didn't like at all. "I won't stop you... because all I want... is your life!"
And before Dark could realize what was happening, a bright energy blasted from Krad's hand, directed at him. The energy ball created a hole in the wall behind Dark and the thief gritted his teeth. "You can't be serious," he scowled and shook his head, prepared for his own attack.
"This place..." Krad raised his chin and stared up to the glass dome before casting his eyes back to the thief. "...will be our battle arena."
"Sounds interesting!" Dark threw his own energy ball and dodged away from Krad's. He could feel the pain as his left arm burned, but he also saw that Krad's white outfit was stained with a little blood. "You still want to try me?" He gave the hunter a mocking smile, but he knew that Krad wouldn't give up that easily.
Dark's smile increased a notch as another fireball was thrown; he jumped and grabbed for Krad's collar, tumbling them together to the floor. He heard Krad cursing as he pushed him away, almost throwing him to the corner of the room with his energy ball.
Krad was right, it was a battle arena. A perfect kaleidoscope of violet and gold that sparkled with the heat of their energy. He'd never felt so much alive as now.... No, he always felt like this whenever he was fighting Krad, just like the nights before. Sometimes he even hoped that Krad would be the one who was waiting for him in his missions, just like tonight. As if his goal was not to steal the art piece, but more that he needed to see the ice demon.
At one point, he succeeded in grabbing one of Krad's wrists and spun him around. The white clad creature gasped in shock as he was thrown to the floor and the thief fell over him, grinning as his hands took hold of both of the slender wrists.
Krad smelled like cinnamon; that was the first thing that registered in the thief's head. His breath was cold like winter. The long, gold tresses cascaded across the floor in a messy tangle that somehow appeared erotic in his eyes. Dark had to swallow hard as those golden eyes stared at him with an intensity he had never seen before. He was more beautiful than angels....
And as Krad opened his mouth slightly, eyes challenging, Dark knew that it was impossible for him this time not to kiss the ice demon.
It seemed like a long eternal minute passed and then, unexpectedly, Krad's lips parted obediently under his.
He pulled away, studying the other's expression and wet his lips. He could just pull himself away and grab the crystal. But he couldn't take his eyes away from the other's. Krad hadn't moved, didn't try to struggle free. Something he would have done in normal circumstances.
"Changing your mind?" Krad was the first one to break the silence. Dark still couldn't say a thing; he couldn't make up his mind. He loosened his grip on one wrist and Krad pulled his hand free. At first he was expecting the ice demon to push him away, strike him with another energy blast and leave him bleeding to death; but instead, Krad's palm moved to his chest, stroking gently.
Violet eyes searching for gold, feeling their breath mingled into one. "Krad..." His voice was uncertain.
The hand balled into his black shirt, pulling him closer until their noses touched. Krad's eyes fell to his lips, and he started to feel unease. It felt so right to be with him like this. Just to feel their bodies pressed together in an intimate gesture.
"Don't tell me that you..." Krad's lips lightly touched his as he spoke, sending more electricity to his already tightened nerves, "...never thought about it..."
Oh God, of course he had. He'd thought -- no, dreamt about the ice demon more often than he could ever think of. He'd always imagined how it would feel to be able to touch the ivory skin, to slip his fingers between the golden strands of his hair, to kiss that supple mouth like the way he had moments ago. And now....
"But, why…." his question was swallowed by a kiss. Dark lost all coherent thought as Krad plunged his tongue deep inside his mouth, exploring every inch of his wet cavern. That tongue touched his, guiding it inside the other's mouth, where Krad started to suck it greedily. Somehow, he didn't really care about reasons anymore. It felt good, why should he stop now?! It felt so right, so wrong, so perfect, so good....
He savored the taste of Krad's mouth hungrily, crushing him to the floor, needing the other to stay close. He pulled away just a brief second before he was back and plundering Krad's mouth once again. His hand released Krad's other wrist and moved through the blonde's hair; his mouth and tongue never stopping. Krad's hands moved behind his neck, playing with his collar. He could never get enough of the taste of Krad's mouth, but he didn't want himself to drown too deep before everything had even got started. He trailed down the smooth jaw and the long creamy neck, removing the fabrics that covered it with his teeth before nuzzling into the welcoming warmth.
"I want you." He heard the low whisper and lifted his chin; Krad's eyes were as sharp as he remembered, eyeing him with such persistency. He had to admit that his body had begun to heat up ever since the first kiss and might not be able to hold back any longer. He wanted him too.
"I need you." He said that aloud, a little embarrassed afterwards and saw Krad's eyes widen slightly.
The blond looked away until the thief cupped his face and kissed his closed eyelids. Krad's hands were all over his back and then moved to his chest, starting to unbutton the black shirt. Clothes soon discarded, piles of white on top of black. And the next time Dark leaned down, he had the ice demon lying naked under him.
He was ethereal beauty, at least to him. A perfect combination of angelic and devilish charm. But he was no angel, Dark thought dimly, he was more than any angel could ever be....
He took Krad's stretched hand and kissed the palm. He saw bruises on one of the blonde's upper arms, a mark from their fight not so long ago. The thief brushed his lips over the bruise apologetically and felt Krad shiver at the touch. Fingers slipped through his hair and Dark raised his head up, seeing that uncertain look again on the other's face.
"What's the matter?" asked the thief, started to feel that something was wrong.
"Nothing." Krad shook his head and shrugged. "Just don't apologize... I enjoy the fights," he smiled mischievously.
Dark raised one eyebrow, "Eh?"
"I like it when you go rough on me...." The last words were whispered into his ear and Dark was reminded of the pool of heat in his groin. But even then, he still couldn't move, staring into the eyes of his beautiful angel inside his arms. He kissed those lips once again, more gently than passionately, hoping that Krad understood that it wasn't just pure lust that burned his heart from the inside.
Gentle fingertips touched his arm lightly, moving up and down in a teasing motion. Golden eyes softened a bit. "Show me how much you need me...."
Dark smiled, intending to show him just that.
* * * * *
It was fun, at first.
To feel the thief giving up to him and his own passion and starting to crush him to the floor; letting their tongues collide and savor each other. It was an amazing feeling to know the thief was finally falling into his trap. It was a simple deal -- he wanted him, and the thief wanted him too. No hard feelings after everything that would have happened by the end of the night. It was just a simple game. He needed the thief's help to achieve what he wanted and knew that he wouldn't give it voluntarily. So it was necessary to do this. Dark would understand; he would do just the same. And if didn't understand, well... he never really cared....
Until...
"I need you..."
They weren't exactly the words he'd been expecting from the thief. Maybe it was his own fault, being the first to tell him that he wanted him, but there were differences between want and need. He wanted the thief that night, and he'd admitted that. Why wouldn't he?
Sure, he wanted him dead, he wanted him to suffer -- but the part of him that admired this violet-eyed thief wanted to know how it felt to have him close, to touch him in a different way than he always did, to receive a passionate kiss from a rival, to have him inside...
But the thief had said that he needed him. Needed.
He'd never felt needed before.
He saw the thief try to hide his embarrassment, biting his bottom lip hesitantly. He looked so sincere, and Krad heard something inside his heart telling him that he shouldn't feel this way. He looked away, only to feel Dark's hands cup his face, to receive a warm kiss on his eyelids. He knew at that point that he had to rush things along; and then the thief took his hand, kissed his palm, and apologized for the bruises he had caused.
He knew he had played a dangerous game.
And although he tried not to give up....
"Show me how much you need me."
It was too late.
Dark smiled warmly and went back to nuzzling his neck, sucking the skin there, making him groan. He writhed under the assault of the thief's mouth and tongue; the hands were all over him, moving down. Gods, he felt like he was in heaven. Who would have thought that the thief was this good?
His moans and groans didn't stop the thief from working his mouth down, licking his chest and tonguing his nipple intensely. Krad threw his head back as Dark trailed his hand along his knee and thigh before finally rubbing his arousal with a teasing gesture. He released a chuckle as he felt himself shudder, almost surrendering.
"You like that, don't you?" Dark grinned, licking his bottom lip.
Krad sucked that tongue for a brief second. "Just shut up and fuck me."
"How rude..." Dark made a hurt face; he grabbed a handful of golden strands in his hand, kissing them like worship. "I don't want to fuck, I want..." he paused, taking a deep breath. Krad hoped he wouldn't say the words.
He didn't.
But Krad was also afraid that the thief was going to back off. "I like that." He answered the previous question and brought his hand between them to emphasize his words. The beautiful violet eyes widened above him as he stroked the hot, hard flesh.
"You..." Dark hissed and writhed in pleasure. Leaning closer, he pressed their bodies together, taking Krad's earlobe inside his mouth.
The blond let out a soft breath, circling his free hand to Dark's broad back. He lifted his legs and wrapped them around the other's waist. His busy hand caught the proof of Dark's passion, leaking with precum that he used to slather the warm flesh. His mouth opened once again as the thief offered another ferocious kiss, crushing him to the floor.
This was supposed to be a mission, his brain screamed. But he felt so good, the taste of his mouth, the dripping sweat, and even the rocking of the thief's body against his. His hand moved to the thick mass of violet hair, shining brilliantly under the violet-golden light of the room.
"Need you," the thief breathed in his ear, sending more fire to his already heated body. "I need you, Krad..."
Krad closed his eyes, feeling slick fingers slip inside him. He arched his back to welcome the torturous pressure. He was certain that he screamed, almost like begging.
"...Aahh--!" Another finger inserted and the thief kissed him fully on the mouth. His legs turned to water; he almost thought they couldn't hold on anymore. He opened his eyes and met a pair of violet, filled with hunger and passion. But behind it all, he could see sincerity.
Don't look at me like that....
He felt so lost inside the deep ocean of color before him, he couldn't control himself anymore. He grasped the thick organ in his hand and guided it to his opening.
The mission. The Hikari. No, the world... ceased to be....
"I need you too..." escaped his lips and he saw the violet eyes widen; that wicked smile he adored so much appeared once again. "I need you..."
Dark's hand replaced his and soon he felt something slip inside him, hard and warm, just the way he wanted it. "Ugh, Dark..." the name left his mouth. His legs pulled at Dark's waist, encouraging the thief to go deeper. His pale hands rested on two broad shoulders, digging into the other's skin. He wiggled his hips, wanting to feel the other deep inside him. Gods, he wanted Dark to fill him now!
"Just do it..." he said hoarsely, impatiently.
The thief smirked, grasping Krad's hips and starting his rhythm. "As you wish."
Closing his eyes, he thought how everything was going exactly as he'd wanted. His big plan to achieve the power had begun. And he would soon have what he wanted. He wanted to smile, to laugh, but his heart pounded so hard. Something was not exactly the way he'd planned it to be.
Everything is so wrong....
He accepted this pain, this pleasure, the beauty of this joining with Dark Mousy, his archenemy. He'd never felt anything more divine than this. It wasn't the sex, it wasn't this primal pleasure he felt right now. But every time he closed his eyes, he could only think of the rich violet color of the thief's eyes. For one time in his life, he felt warmth, he felt cherished.
He cast his eyes above, watching the Light Ametrine spining in the air in the riot of violet-gold colors. The separation had begun. That power was so close to his hands.
A smile crossed his lips in satisfaction. The thief had started a series of rapid thrusts inside him and he moaned in pleasure. For a brief second, he would have given up everything to have this thief inside him forever, to feel Dark filling him. But something was more important....
But then he felt something inside him giving up. He arched his back as the other penetrated him faster and harder. The feeling of his arousal rubbed between their two sweaty bodies made him shudder. He lost control, feeling the wave of orgasmic pleasure roll all over him as he spurted his seed onto the other's chest, onto his abdomen, and onto the floor. He felt himself laughing, his body gone limp.
The thief leaned in to kiss his unresponsive mouth deeply, hungrily; thrusting his tongue inside the blond's mouth as he thrust his sex inside Krad's willing body. After a while, Krad responded to the kiss, sucking him greedily and feeling Dark's body trembling above him. Something warm released inside Krad's body as the other pushed for the last time; the blond could feel the organ inside him twitch as their tongues collided. The thief collapsed on top of him, and he knew that everything was finally over.
Over....
He peered at the Light Ametrine; it had torn into two separate crystals. The crystals that would bring power to him. Just the way he had planned. After so long....
The blond kissed the top of Dark's head, caressing his cheek almost sincerely. "Dark," he whispered.
"Hmm?" Dark lifted his face and kissed him gently.
Krad tilted his head, smiling in satisfaction. "It's over...."
The thief frowned. "What?!"
He smiled, punctuating his words. "It's over."
* * * * *
Dark knew something was wrong in the depth of Krad's smile; the next minute he felt himself being pushed away. He sat up on the floor, watching the blond pull his clothes back on. He felt fragile in his state of undress in front of the other, and pulled on his own clothes. He shook his messy hair before turning to Krad.
"Krad, what's the matter?" He reached out, trying to catch the other's pale hand, and had it slapped away. "What the he--" He watched Krad walk to the middle of the room and to the Light Ametrine. He was once again reminded of the reason he was here in the first place. He was supposed to steal that damn thing. He was supposed to steal the crystal. But....
His eyes narrowed as he tried to focus his vision on the two crystals floating in the air. What the hell?! He would have sworn that there was only one just an hour ago, and now....
He grabbed Krad's arm, roughly, and tried to pull the ice demon back to face him. Those golden eyes were cold and deadly, so different from how he had looked before. He gripped those slender arms more tightly, clenching his jaw. "Explain it to me, Krad! What the hell have you done?!"
Krad's shoulders trembled as he started to laugh, softly at first and then louder. The blond shrugged his arms free from him, eyes burning with something dangerous. "What have I done you say?!" Krad smirked evilly, "It wasn't just me, Dark. And I guess I should've thanked you."
"What?" Dark felt like spitting as he looked into the other's golden eyes. All he could see was the cold and empty depth of amber; the eyes of a predator, a hunter, a person who was destined to hunt him.
And then he realized, the Krad he had held in his arms not so long ago had gone. He was just the ice demon. Nothing more than that. A demon who wanted his blood, wanted his death, more than anyone. "You knew it all along. You knew this is going to happen."
"Ah." Krad's eyes were mocking. "I could never have done it without you. I told you, I should've thanked you."
Dark gritted his teeth, violet eyes narrowed in confusion. "What is this all about? What...." He wanted to ask him what had happened, but his lips were locked; he didn't want to ask something he didn't want to know. But his heart pounded hard with every breath he took.
"You see..." Krad walked closer to the crystals, eyeing them carefully before suddenly grasping them in his hand. Dark saw the two crystals between Krad's fingers. The crystals weren't ametrine anymore; they were single colors, one of them violet, the other orange. Krad saw the confusion in his eyes and smiled. "Beautiful, aren't they?"
"I don't understand...."
Krad made a mocking face. "That's why you need to study the object before stealing it, Dark. For a thief, you're pathetic. You don't know what Light Ametrine is?"
Dark was silent. Sure, the Niwa always explained to him some details about the object to be stolen and he would arrange the tactics to steal it from the Hikari. But they hadn't said anything important about this one. They'd said something about the power the Light Ametrine purchased, and that it had to be stolen tonight. They hadn't said that there was a secret inside it. They hadn't mentioned it being torn into two different crystals.
"The Light Ametrine created by the Hikari is different from ametrines found in the rest of the world. It possesses a demon power." Krad's eyes were raised to the glass dome above and the moon beyond. "But the power can only be released when they separate into two. It only happens on a full moon night every two hundred years."
His fingers balled into fists, letting his anger show in his eyes. "And I guess it was tonight?" He asked the rhetorical question, not really expecting the ice demon to answer.
The blond nodded anyway. "I don't care about the Hikari and their arts, I only want to have the power... therefore, you were needed."
Dark bit his bottom lip. "For what?"
"I needed power to unseal the crystals. I couldn't do it alone. And you..." He stepped closer until they were facing each other. Once again, Dark could feel that cold breath tickling the side of his neck, but not the way he wanted it. "You proved to me that you could help."
"How?" Dark knew he didn't want to hear the answer, but something inside him knew that he needed to hear it.
Krad showed him the violet crystal in his hand; it floated above the demon's pale hand, shining brightly with its beautiful color. Dark almost believed that it was only an illusion, something inside a dream. "This Amethyst is a symbol of piety. The seal broken by the power of your -- ah, my mistake, our passions."
The ice demon lifted the other crystal, the orange-colored one. "And the Citrine crystal is a symbol of protection. And the seal was broken when you abandoned your mission to steal it, Dark. You forgot everything... but us, of course."
"You--!" Dark grabbed the other's collar in his hand, pulling him around roughly. To his astonishment, Krad didn't resist, only watching him with his cold eyes. "You used me!"
"Aahh..." Krad shifted closer until his neck touched the thief's jaw. "But don't tell me you didn't enjoy it," the blond whispered, sending shivers all across his skin.
Their eyes locked, bodies pressed so close like before. Dark could feel the other's heartbeat against his chest; he could feel his warmth radiating through his skin. But the cold breath and the cold eyes belonged to the ice demon. He didn't know why he still couldn't react.
Krad's free hand touched his neck and up to his cheek, caressing the skin softly. "Don't tell me you're regretting it," he said almost ruefully. Dark honestly didn't know whether he was sincere any more. "I know we both liked it very, very much."
"Don't touch me!" Dark slapped at the hand and pushed the ice demon away. He almost fell to the floor, almost. He could see anger inside those beautiful golden eyes. Or was it remorse?
Damn you... Damn you, Krad....
He didn't know when the energy ball started to form inside his hand, but he threw it almost immediately at the white-clad figure. Krad obviously hadn't expected to be attacked, took it on his left arm. Dark heard his breath hoarsen, watched blood staining the other's white clothes. He barely cared anymore; he didn't care about anything anymore. And another energy ball formed in his hand.
Krad was more than ready this time and formed his own attack; their energies met in the middle, sending out blasts that destroyed almost half the wall. But the wound in Krad's arm had worsened with his attack, and in one moment, the crystals escaped his hand and rolled to the floor. The thief made a leap towards them; he caught them before they stopped rolling. He heard Krad curse and start to create another energy blast.
"I won't let you have these crystals, Krad." Dark almost couldn't believe his voice came out flat and cold. This was not him; but his heart burned with the anger of being trapped, of being used, and above all, being lied to.
I thought you said you needed me too....
Krad stared at him blankly. "You wanna try me?"
Dark dodged the energy ball, jumping into the corner as he prepared his magic. He could see Krad's blood starting to drip from under the sleeve, wetting his pale hand. But the ice demon still wore a cold face, almost mocking, as if he was enjoying everything. "You can't get away from this place, Dark Mousy."
The violet-eyed thief grasped the crystals more tightly in his hand. They were warm against his skin. "Who said I'm getting away?"
A curve of a smile crossed Krad's face; Dark didn't expect the next attack so soon. Before he knew it, he was blown into the wall with a burning pain in his chest. He stood up, one of the crystals escaping from his hand. Krad caught it and jumped him until they were rolling on the floor. He felt Krad's fist connect with his jaw, tasted blood inside his mouth. He was lucky to have his legs free and he used them to kick the blond off him, sending the ice demon to the floor.
"Who said I'm getting away?! I'm still here!" His fist hit the side of the blond's face, blood dripping from the corner of that beautiful mouth. Another fist to the side of Krad's face and he saw the cheek start to turn red. "It wasn't just sex, Krad! It wasn't! It was everything for me!"
Krad pushed at him, both of them sprawling on the floor. His chest rose up and down; his heart beating faster and faster. For a long moment he didn't care anymore; he stared up to the high glass dome above, watching as the moon started to move to the west.
Silence.
He could hear their breathing in the cold, ruined room. The place that was so beautiful an hour ago. A place where he'd thought he'd finally found what he'd been searching for. He'd thought that it was Krad. He was wrong. Gods, he was such an idiot.
An idiot in love, but still an idiot.
He stood up with shaky feet, and so did Krad. They stared into each other's eyes, Krad was the first one who looked away. Dark felt the crystal inside his hand warm his palm. He peered at the small object, watching as its gold color glowed gracefully.
Dark lifted his head, glancing at the other, watching those familiar wings form behind the white clad creature. Krad turned his back on him, hiding behind his wings. Dark felt everything around them turn awkward. They weren't fighting anymore; there was only silence and understanding. Where did all the anger and hatred go?
"I guess you won," Krad said with a flat tone. "I can't have the power with only one crystal left to me."
So why don't you try to take it from me? Why are you giving up? Are you just going to leave? Just like this?
Leaving me?!
But the words never left his mouth, grasping the gold crystal named Citrine in his hand. He saw the wings spread gracefully. And before Krad could fly away, he caught his wrist and spun him around to face him. For another time tonight, he had Krad in his arms, warm and willing, almost surrendering.
He always felt lost inside those golden depths, drowning and losing himself. Had he lost his mind by doing this? Wasn't he supposed to hate this creature? He lowered his head and felt their breath mingle, warm and cold into one. Krad's eyes softened as Dark circled his hand around his waist, pulling him close.
The last kiss was warm and slow. Dark could still taste the sweetness of the ice demon inside his mouth; his lips were warm and pliant, just the way he remembered. That teasing tongue licked the corner of his mouth, and Dark obliged silently, parting his lips. Krad's hand reached out to tangle his fingers in his hair, tongue driving deep inside, eating him alive. And the kiss turned softer, only fulfilling emotion and not desire. And after a long minute, they pulled away.
"Next time I see you," Krad's voice was deep and low, "I'll kill you."
Dark eyed the ice demon coldly, watching him smile the smile he loved. "No, I'll kill you."
"We'll see about that." said Krad, and with that he flew up to reach the window above. White feathers drifted to the floor near his feet as the ice demon disappeared through the open windows. Leaving him in the cold room.
Everything was so cold. He didn't want to look back to this day, remembering what had happened. But no matter how he tried, he knew that he couldn't erase these memories of Krad, of what they had shared, even if it was just a big lie.
The crystal in his hand was the only thing that felt warm. It still shone with its bright gold color, filling his vision with memories. It was just like looking into Krad's eyes. It felt like he was holding strands of golden hair in his hand. Was it just a dream?
Then I don't want to awaken ever again....
* * * * *
Krad hesitated halfway back to the Hikari, his injured arm burning; there must be some bad bruising left. Sighing, he stopped, leaning back against the nearest tree. He saw blood dripping through his fingers, some of it starting to dry. He didn't feel it at all. The wound on his arm didn't hurt as much as the one in his heart. He didn't even understand why he had that kind of feeling.
Wasn't he supposed to be the ice demon?
He remembered those violet eyes looking at him with anger, with hatred. He had the right to do that, Krad thought dimly, remembering. It was supposed to be a simple plan; there wasn't supposed to be any emotion attached. But that stupid thief had put a little bit too much into it. Maybe that's why it had felt really special. Even an ice demon had to admit that.
The amethyst crystal felt warm in his hand and he braced himself to look at it one more time. It was still as beautiful as he remembered. He knew how it felt to drown inside the most divine violet in this world, he knew how warm that color could be as a kiss was planted on his cheek, how complete he was when the other held him inside those strong arms....
Oh god... this was not supposed to happen….
If he could turn back time, he wouldn't.
The crystal was useless without its pair, but somehow the power didn't matter anymore to him. He didn't care about anything anymore but this moment. He wanted to keep it forever, inside his cold, cursed heart. Perhaps that way he could always remember this night, always remember those violet depths lovingly locked to his own eyes.
Forever....
