Chapter 2:
The Game Begins
Friday was the day after and Daisuke was walking alone to school. Well, you really can't call it alone when you have an annoying voice inside of your head telling you of all the possibilities that that bracelet could represent. "Ok, Dark, I told you, it does not mean gay fuck."
You don't know that for sure! Just look at that gay color! It has gayness written all over it! You better keep it from Satoshi! "What are you saying? Hikari isn't gay." (A/N: Satoshi changed his name back to Hikari since he is of legal age.)
Well then, explain why he is always staring at you from behind? There was silence. Can't answer that can you? Ha! He is gay! Also, for further proof, why is it that we caught him following, or shall I say, stocking you home several times? Huh? Huh? Can't answer that either, can you! Muahahah! "I don't know. He's always acted strange. I've known him for about five years, but that doesn't mean I know him so well that I can answer those questions. Maybe he just wants to talk..., but he can't gather up the courage to come up to me, and talk to me."
I'm sure what he wants is way, way, way more than just talking. "Ok, I need to stop talking to you, because I'm at school now, and the students will look at me funny as if I'm talking to myself."
Ok, I'm shutting up, but you could always talk to me mentally. Daisuke ignored him. Hey, Dai, I see your lover! Riku! Dark was mentally nudging Daisuke with his elbow. "Yes, I see her... She looks so nice today!"
Before reaching her class, Riku turned to see Daisuke staring at her. Smiling, she greeted him, "Good morning, Niwa."
"Good morning!"
"So, are you off to class, Niwa?"
"Yeah. My class starts in about ten minutes, but there's no rush. It's just I wanted to say hello.
" "That's very nice of you, Niwa, but my class starts in about five minutes, and I must be prepared for class. Say, why don't you meet me at lunch? We can have a nice conversation under the Sakura trees in the back."
"Sure! That sounds great!"
"Ok. Till then, Niwa," she waved to him before she disappeared behind the sliding door.
"She's so beautiful!"
So, Daisuke, you still love her?
"Yes! I love her! I want to marry her, but... I have to date her before I marry her, don't I?"
Well, it would be kind of weird if you just asked her to marry you outta the blue. Personally, I know I would freak out.
Once arriving at his classroom, Daisuke made his way to his seat, dropped off his bag, and ran to get his canvas. "Hmm. I think the Sakura Tree needs more pink..."
Yeah.. it's too blah!
"I didn't ask you!"
Well, then, stop talking to yourself! I always think you are talking to me!
"Well, I'm not!"
Shut up! Satoshi's coming!
"Huh?" Daisuke jumped when he felt a hand over his shoulder. Turning around, he met the pool blue eyes of Satoshi Hikari, "Umm..uh..hi?"
"Good morning, Niwa," Satoshi said as he continued to look at the painting Niwa had done, "If you ask me, I think you should have added a blue background."
"And why is that?"
"It's just my opinion, but I think that a blue background would push the subject forwards. Just think of it as glorifying the Sakura Tree. Drawing all the attention to the tree instead of the background."
"So, like a blue starry night?"
"Yes," Satoshi moved his attention to Daisuke, "A blue night with stars would be better suited to this painting than a sunset background which almost takes all the attention away from the beautiful Sakura Tree you've drawn."
Daisuke nodded, and then looked back at his painting. "You know, Hikari. I want to give this to the person I love."
Satoshi gaped at him, "The person...you love?"
"Yes. So I want to do my best, so that she'll love it!"
"I think anything you paint would make anyone happy."
"Yes, but I'm not just giving it to anyone, I want to give it to Riku Harada."
"What...," Satoshi clenched his fist.
"I've loved her for about five years, but I've never been able to tell her how I feel. So, I want to give her this, and then ask her out."
"You... love Riku?"
"Yes," Daisuke never noticed the pained look that had over come Satoshi's face, probably because he never did look directly at him.
"I see...," anyone else could have heard the anguish in Satoshi's voice, but Daisuke, too busy thinking about Riku, never noticed any change in Satoshi.
"You see, Satoshi, I want to marry her."
"What?" Satoshi gaped at Daisuke again, but this time, one small tear slipped from his eye, "You love her that much?"
"I love her more than anything!" He finally turned to look at Satoshi, "Don't you have someone you love so much you can't stop thinking about her?"
Closing his eyes for a second, Satoshi thought about his answer, and then said, "Yes... I love someone so much I just can't bare to look at...them.. Because it just hurts so much knowing that I'll never have that person."
Daisuke gasped, "So you do love someone! Who is it?"
"I can't tell you...," "I love you, Daisuke."
Suddenly, the teacher broke through the door, and warned, "Anyone who is not in their seats will be marked tardy."
Before Daisuke could say another word, Satoshi had left him, and went to his seat, which was on the other side of the classroom from where Daisuke sat. "I'm never with him...," Satoshi thought, "I love him, and yet, he loves Riku. He loves her so much he wants to marry her... I love him so much that I'd die for him. Would Riku do that for you, Daisuke? Will she ever loves you more than me? Does she even love you?"
Soon, class was over, and it was lunchtime. Daisuke scrambled through his stuff to find some money to pay for his, and if he's lucky, Riku's lunch as well. However, he couldn't find any. "Oh, man! I must have left it on the table!"
Satoshi turned away from packing his bag to see Daisuke panicking. Wanting to help him, Satoshi walked over to Daisuke, leaned over him, and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I forgot my money on the kitchen table!"
Satoshi never liked to see Daisuke in panic, so he reached into his pocket, and took out his wallet. Flipping through some yen, until he found enough to help buy Daisuke lunch. "Here," Satoshi handed the money to Daisuke.
"What? Oh no! I can't possibly take your money!"
"No. Please. Take it. I don't want to see you starve."
"Are you sure?"
Bending down, so that he was at Daisuke's height while he sat on the floor, Satoshi reached out, and took Daisuke's hand in his. Turing his palm up, Satoshi placed the money in Daisuke's hand, and closed it before he reluctantly took it away.
"You don't have to pay me back," Satoshi insured as he walked back to his desk. Poor guy. "What happened?"
Didn't you see that pained look on his face?
"What pained look? I didn't notice anything."
You really never do look at Satoshi. If you would keep an eye on him, you'd notice how sad he always looks when he talks to you.
"What if he loves Riku, but thinks that he doesn't have a chance with her because of me?"
I don't think that's the case, Daisuke.
"Niwa."
Daisuke looked up at Satoshi, "Yeah?"
"Can you help me after school?"
"With what?"
"I volunteered to help clean the school pool. However, I'm the only one that signed up for it, and it's a pretty big pool, so I was wondering if it's not a problem, maybe you could help me out."
"Sure! It's not a problem!"
Satoshi finally smiled, and Daisuke ran outta the room to meet Riku by the Sakura blossoms. "Ms.Harada!"
Riku turned around to see Daisuke running towards her. "Hi! Hurry up! The lunch is getting cold."
"What?" Daisuke asked when he finally reached her, panting.
"Look. I had a lot of food, so I was wondering if you'd like to share."
Daisuke, thankful that he didn't have to use Satoshi's money, sat down with Riku as she started to eat. There was a long moment of silence, and then Riku spoke, "Daisuke. There's something I want to tell you."
"Yes?"
"Daisuki."(1)
Daisuke nearly dropped his rice ball, "You...you..."
"I've liked you since I was 14. However, I just couldn't sum up the courage to say it to your face."
"Riku! I feel the same about you!"
"You do!" Riku was nearly on the verge of tears, "Why didn't you say anything?"
"I was about to, but you said it first."
"Oh. Maybe next time I'll stay quiet. Anyways, now that I know, would you like to go out with me?"
"Yes!"
Lightly crying tears of joy, Riku wrapped her arms around Daisuke, and kissed his neck. "Do you want to do something after school?"
Daisuke was about to say yes, but then he remember Satoshi, "I can't."
"Why not?" Riku said as she pulled away.
"Because I promised Satoshi that I would help him out with something."
"I'm jealous of him now," Riku pouted.
Daisuke laughed, "Oh, you don't have a reason to be jealous of him!"
"How about tomorrow then?"
"Yes! I'll keep tomorrow open just for you!" Daisuke kissed Riku's cheek.
Suddenly, Riku pulled out a white bracelet, and placed it on her wrist. Oh! It's white! "Riku, what does the white bracelet mean?"
"It means kiss her. If you can pull if off without me realizing it, then you've earned yourself a kiss."
"Don't worry, I'll find a way," Daisuke grinned.
(Later that day)
"I'm going to be late!"
I told you not to meet Riku after class, and to just follow Satoshi. "He's going to be so mad at me!"
Daisuke, the pool is to the left! "Ok!"
Daisuke made a left turn, and saw signs pointing to the pool. "Hikari!"
"I'm up here!"
Daisuke looked up to see Satoshi looking down at him from the pool fence. "You're late."
"I'm so sorry!"
"Don't be. The entrance is over there."
Daisuke jogged over to the gate, and Satoshi opened it for him. "So, did you start on anything while you waited?" Daisuke asked as he picked up the net.
"No. I waited for you."
"The whole time?"
"It was only thirty minutes."
"Only thirty minutes?" Daisuke felt bad, "I'm sorry. But I was.. I was talking with Riku."
Satoshi allowed his eyes open wide for a second in response, and then he looked away, "I see."
"Hikari? Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, but we need not worry about me. We need to clean up this pool."
Turning towards the pool, Daisuke was about to dip the net in when he noticed how clean it already was, "Are you sure you didn't do anything?"
"I did a little, actually. Just to save sometime. I'm sure you want to get back to...her," anyone would have noticed how Satoshi nearly choked on that word.
"I do, but she's gonna be busy the rest of the day now. Something came up for her. Otherwise, I would be rushing over to her. So, what else do we need to do?"
"You need to clean the bugs from around the edges," Satoshi pointed to the surface covered with dead bugs.
"I see...," Daisuke began to walk along side the pool, dipping his net in and scooping up the bugs, and during the whole time, Satoshi followed him.
"What are you doing, Satoshi?" Daisuke asked when he finally realized that Satoshi was following him around.
"Just walking. Is that a crime?"
"I didn't mean it in that way, it's just that you're following me."
"Yes, just incase your clumsy side takes over, and you fall in."
"What! I'm not gonna...whoa!"
Daisuke took a step back, and was now waving his arms around trying to balance himself on the edge of the pool as Satoshi tried to grab one of his arms. "Stop moving for a second! I can't grab your arm!"
Satoshi was barely able to grab Daisuke's wrist before he fell back, and unable to grasp a firm grip, Satoshi clung to the turquoise bracelet. "Hold on!"
SNAP
SPLASH
In a blink of an eye, Daisuke was underwater, and Satoshi stood at the edge, looking down at Daisuke as he surfaced. "I'm so sorry, Niwa! Are you ok?"
"I think I swallowed a fly," Daisuke grimaced, and swam back to the edge.
Suddenly, Satoshi realized he was holding onto something. Looking down at his hand, he saw he was holding onto Daisuke turquoise bracelet, only he had not just slipped it off, he also tore it. Gasping, he brought it up to meet his gaze. "Why would Daisuke have this one? Is he bi?"
Daisuke pulled himself outta the pool, and then he ran to grab a towel. Daisuke, look at your wrist. "Huh?" Daisuke looked down, and gasped when he realized his bracelet was missing. "Satoshi! Did you see my-"
"Your bracelet?" Satoshi interrupted as he held it up for Daisuke to see.
"Yes," Man! I can't wait to find out what you and creepy boy are gonna have to do now! "Shut up Dark!"
He even broke it! Now it's just a long piece of rubber plastic.
"Niwa. Why do you have this bracelet?"
"Is something wrong?"
"Niwa, are you a bisexual?"
"Nnnooo. I'm straight."
"Then why do you have this color?"
"Dark found it, and had me wear it."
"Niwa, do you even know what this one-"
"No, I don't," Daisuke interrupted.
Slipping the bracelet into his pocket, Satoshi leaned against the fence, and mumbled something to himself that Daisuke couldn't make out. "Pardon?"
"We'll have to talk about this tomorrow. I'll finish here. You should go home."
"Ok. Then, can I have my bracelet back?"
"No. I get to hold onto it until the game is over. Daisuke, tomorrow is Saturday, can you swing by my apartment after school?"
"Can you tell me what it means?" Daisuke asked.
"No," Satoshi replied, "I'll tell you tomorrow at my place, because I'm not gonna be here tomorrow, due to the fact that I have work."
"I see. I'll come around... fourish?"
"That's fine. However, Daisuke, you should really get going. I don't want you to catch a cold. It's winter."
"I know," Daisuke said as he shivered, "I'll be going now."
Daisuke waved to Satoshi was he ran off. "How can I tell Daisuke? How can I possibly tell Daisuke what it stands for?"
