“You're the murderer.”
Everyone stood frozen on their track, eyes staring at the black laptop in front of them in disbelief. One of them, a middle aged man with almost bald head suddenly snarled, breaking the silence that falls on the large living room.
“What's your proof? How could you say I'm the one who killed my own wife? Everyone on this room knows this is a suicide case!” The bald man barked. Uncomfortable silence falls around them again; the only sound that resonating through the wall only the soft hum from the laptop.
“No. It certainly is a murder case.” The computer voice flew through the speaker, pausing for a brief moment before it speaks up again. “The murderer uses a secret way to kill the victim in her sleep, and hung her so it looks like a suicide case. That's why the book on the rack isn't arranged alphabetically. The gate that connected the victim' room to the secret way can only be open when the book rearranged. The only one who knows this way is you and your wife—and we already caught you red-handed when trying to open the gate again. We have the tape, that's enough for proof.” The voice explained. Then in an instant the bald man slid on his knees, clutching his head in desperation as he muttered softly, “She'd been unfaithful to me… she's cheated with another man…”
The other suspect looks at him through pitiful eyes; some had anger on it and some also crying.
“Kyosuke Shitara, you're under arrest.”
The words gone deaf on his ears, the murderer just continue crying. The computer voice from the laptop orders the police to handcuff him after saying his right. When it's over and Kyosuke already dragged outside, the laptop screen with `L' wallpaper on it slowly turn to black before turn off completely.

L Lawliet sighed, clicking the computer's mouse several times before lay back on his black leather sofa. Another case had been solved—and it's time to face boredom again. Truth to be told, he loves his job as detective—but its makes him bored to death lately. There's no big case anymore—no interesting case or challenging one. Usually he doesn't handle small case, but in this state—he couldn't do anything but accept it to kill the time. But now it's over, what should he do next?
That thought alone made him sighed in annoyance again. He rolled over to his desk and grab some sweets—marshmallow with melted chocolate inside.
He popped the chewy thing on his lips while thinking deeply. His life is perfect—but why there's something still missing? He's rich, good looking (he's not a narcissist, but so he'd been told) and intelligent. He's the world's top three detective—and even though no one knows his face, he's famous. Some people may think he's asexual by his serious appearance, but he had sex every night… that's it, until he gets bored. Maybe that's what makes his life empty? He had sex every night—but there's no love on it. It just a quick fuck from anonymous woman or man, who only wanted his money.
Not that he wants love, though.
His train of thought suddenly interrupted by the annoying sound of telephone, and he strolled over there to pick it up rather begrudgingly.
“Moshi moshi?”
“Ryuzaki, could you go over here? There's a murder case and we need your help—immediately!” was the answer from the other line. It must be Matsuda—L thought. That young officer is one of his work team who recognize him as `Ryuzaki'—but why he seems so rushed?
“No can't do. I'll just order Watari to replace Me.” he replied coldly, held the phone between two delicate finger while the other hands reaching for the marshmallow. He heard Matsuda sighed, and… sniff? Is he crying?
Before he gets an answer to his question, Matsuda' voice rummaged again.
“It's emergency, Ryuzaki-kun. Yagami-san's son is murdered brutally and `cause there's no clue or anything, we suspect it's Kira.”
At the mention of the mass murderer' name, L's ears perked up. Finally big case comes!! He thought happily. He and his team already investigating Kira's case for a year but earn nothing. Maybe they can get any clue from this case and hopefully Kira will get caught this time. He was more than mad when the first time Kira appears on Japan, saying he/she is justice. But in truth Kira is nothing but an insane mass murderer—or so he thought. L is justice.
“I'll go over there, Matsuda-san. But make sure there's only Kira Investigator team. Can you give me the address?” L said, licking the drop of melted chocolate from his pale finger. After writing the direction Matsuda gives he hang up the phone and slowly stood from his seat.
“Watari, could you drive me here?” the raven haired detective said, giving small paper with the address on it to an old man. The old man, also known as Watari read it through his glasses before nodding softly.
“Sure, sir.” The old man said politely. L follows him walk through the quarter's door, sliding the glass door open before enter the elevator.
Watari watched in amusement as L squirmed almost unnoticeably—the thing that he do when he nervous or excited.
But L never nervous, he's excited.
Excited to catch Kira.
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000< /div>
When he arrived to the location, Matsuda practically running to greet him. L couldn't help but watching questioningly as he saw tears fall from the young officer's eyes, He also notice Souchirou Yagami—one of his team—burying his face to his hand as he sobbed quietly.
L approaches the man slowly, leaving Matsuda crying almost hysterically as he keep screaming why. The raven haired detective rest his hand to the older man's shoulder, causing the older man to looks up.
“I'm sorry for your loss, Yagami-san.” He said softly, and even though his face reminded emotionless—Souchirou saw there's grief on his wide black orbs. It makes him smile slightly, nodding his head before saying thank you.
The detective decides to leave the two men alone this time, letting them grieving over the boy's death. It must be hard, losing someone who so precious to us. L imagine his life without Watari, what will happen to his life if Watari gone… or dead—that thought alone make him shudder. It must be harder for Souchirou to face this fact, since it's his son who brutally killed. And Matsuda—he already heard the young officer talk about Light Yagami back then at the quarter, saying he's an intelligent, handsome high school student—probably they've formed a friendship. L himself hasn't seen this Yagami Light boy before, but he still feels grief formed on his heart—which is strange, because he never feels this way before when handle a murder case. Maybe because the victim is his team work's relative, he thought.
He saw Ide and Aizawa—the other officer of Kira Investigator team—staring at him hopefully, as if he could bring the boy backs to life. But his purpose here is to found the murderer and bring him or her to justice, because even L couldn't fight death.
“I'm sorry, but he'll never come back again, Ide-san, Aizawa-san.” He said almost in a sad tone. The officers look at him, blinking several times, before finally Aizawa speak up.
“Geez, how'd you read our mind, Ryuzaki-san?”
L looks at him incredulously. “It's reflected on your eyes, Aizawa-san. The same to you, Ide-san.” L answered as he headed toward a stretcher where a young man body lying lifelessly.
“Is he Light Yagami?” he asks Aizawa who seems the calmest one among his team work. It relieved him—`cause he doesn't know what to do to calm four mature men whose grieving over someone's loss.
The afro haired man walks toward him. But instead of answering L's question, he just staring at Light's body. L watching the boy too, once again experiencing strange feeling of pain as he saw there's no fall and rise on the student's chest—signaling he doesn't breathe anymore.
Finally after a long time of silence Aizawa speak up ever so softly it almost went unnoticed.
“Yes.”
L looks at him curiously when he heard Aizawa' voice shaking slightly. He suspected the man crying, at least a little—and that's what he exactly does. Great—now how could he investigating if nobody can help him?
Sensing his penetrating gaze, Aizawa wipe his head with the back of his hand and looks up to grinned sheepishly at L. “I'm sorry, but it just… too sad. He's only sixteen, yet he had to die on the most… inhuman way.” Aizawa said, “I swear I'll bring whoever did this to him to justice.”
L nodded, smiling `cause at least he doesn't break down like the other three guys did. “That's what we're going to do, Aizawa-san. Have you met Yagami-kun before?”
Aizawa nodded before answering, his voice sounds stronger than before. “Yeah, when Yagami-san invited me, Ide and Matsuda to have dinner together at his house to celebrate the forming of Kira Investigator Team… we invite you too but you rejected it.”
“Oh, yes. I'm quite remembering that. So how'd you think about him?”
The afro haired officer lock his eyes to the body in front of him again, scanned it through gleaming dark eyes.
“He's a good boy, you know? He's good looking, polite and intelligent. I heard he already help police to solve two big cases… he's kind of perfect son to Yagami-san, he must be very proud of him…” before he couldn't help it, tears fall from his eyes and he must excused himself to pour his eyes out somewhere else—not in front of his `boss'. L allowed him, but rolled his eyes in slight annoyance when he realizes no one can seem to help him. He also just realizes Ide reminded silent because he's crying too.
I hope I brought Watari with me…
Was the detective had in mind as he watching the lifeless body in front of him again. He put gloves on so his fingerprint can't mark the boy as he touch him. Aizawa right, this boy is sure a good looking guy. He had a soft, silky brown hair that makes L had the surge to stroke it again and again. His face is perfect—heart shaped with soft, pale skin on the surface. His long eyelashes closed his eyes, makes him looks like a sleeping angel.
But he wasn't sleep.
L couldn't help but narrowed his eyes slightly when his eyes fall to the boy's body. There are so many bruises and scars on it—breaking the perfect skin successfully. The raven haired man touch the blue mark on the boy's chest, probably someone punched him repeatedly there. He also notices the red line on his curved neck—someone must choke him with rope or something. But what makes him saddened and maddened more is the bruised on the boy's lower part, a lot on his tight and some on his navel.
“Is he also raped, Ide-san?”
The question flew so suddenly, causing the officer to jump out slightly.
“We're… we're not sure either, Ryuzaki-san. But by the sign and bruises on his lower part… we conclude that he was raped too. Probably multiple times. We already suggest to autopsying him, but Yagami-san refuse. He said no one can touch his son except us, the team member.”
“Oh… I see.” L turns his attention back to the brunette again, examining him slowly. There's must be some clue… clue that could lead them to Kira…
He clutched the boy's hand on his, surprise when he felt a cold thing brushed over his skin through the gloves. He looks down to found a silver ring on Light's hand, he gripping it tightly as if afraid someone will take it away.
Before he had a chance to continue examining the victim's body, a scream from Matsuda suddenly interrupted him.
“Ryuzaki-san, come over there!”
No one could order L… but I'll let it this time. He thought, heading to Matsuda's direction.
“What is it?” L asked when he arrive and saw Matsuda's mouth agape. In front of him lying three bodies of lifeless men, clutching their chests as if they're on pain.
“Who are them, Matsuda-san?” he asked again, firmly this time, but the young officer still remained silent. Probably watching someone die in front of you wasn't a good experience.
“Who are them, Matsuda-san?” he found himself again in a slightly angry voice. Matsuda finally lock his jaw shut together, eyes still locked to the body in front of him.”
“They come here… saying they're the one who killed and raped Light-kun. But, a few second later… they died…?”
L's eyes widened even further if it's possible, rushed over the bodies to look at them. They clutching their chest… must be a heart attack. Could it be? Yes, it must be…
It's Kira.
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000< /div>
“I don't understaaaaand!!”
L Lawliet, for the first time in his life, actually screaming in a girly voice. Watari look at him in surprise, like the other officer do. But instead of feels ashamed he just continued to screaming while gripping his hair on his fist.
“What's the meaning of this? I don't understaaaaand!! Oh my god I'm so stupid!” he yelled again. He was so depressed `cause he couldn't solve the Light Yagami's case, feeling guilty to Souchirou because he couldn't help him. It's been 2 weeks since Light Yagami's death—the funeral already held on the third time since his death—and he even doesn't have a suspect! He knows it's Kira, but the question is who's Kira? And why Kira killed the men who raped Light? Is he/her trying to save him or to cover his own sins? He doesn't understand… and it drives him insane.
And what's the meaning of the silver ring that he found on the boy's hand? Is it from Kira? Is it Kira's? So many questions run through his mind, yet none of them he could answer.
“Don't force yourself, Ryuzaki-san…” a deep, masculine voice startled him as a large hand rest on his shoulder. He looks up to found a pair of dark eyes staring at him with understanding. “He's already gone… I still held the grudge to whoever did this to him, but it will be better if we think clearly. Just rest your mind for a while, Ryuzaki-san. Please.”
L thought for Souchirou's suggestion for a moment, his mind screaming in refuse but nodded eventually. He's right—he couldn't even think clearly on this state. He needs some rest to light his spirit up. And sweets.
“Thank you Yagami-san. I'll be in my room for a while, ravishing sweet to get my sanity back…” he said as stood up slowly.
Souchirou gives him an understanding smile when Ryuzaki apologize to him, saying he still couldn't solve the mystery under his son's death.
“It's okay, Ryuzaki-san,” the chief said reassuringly, “What matter to me is he's rest in peace now.”
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000< /div>
L leaned on the door frame; his body went limp `cause the lack of spirit. He feels the burden on his shoulder burn him slowly, torturing him with guilt…Blaming him for the young student's death. He keeps reminding himself that it's not his fault, yet some part of him saying it's his responsibility as world's top three detectives to bring whoever under this case to justice…
He snapped the door open before entering it half-heartedly, one hand searching for the light's button `cause the room is so awfully dark.
But when he found the tiny button and light flickered around his room, his wide eyes widened if possible.
There he is— young brown haired boy sitting with his back facing him, knees drawn up to his chest just like his favorite position.
“Light Yagami?” he asked uncertainly. No, he just hallucinating… that' all. There's no sense of it, Light Yagami is long gone…
But when the figure looks up to facing him, he began to doubt that it's not real. He was 99 certain it's Light Yagami… but how can?
Before he had a chance to think even further, a soft voice interrupted his rain of thought.
“You… you can see me?”
