CHAPTER TWO:
The Castle

“There it is!” Nero exclaimed as he skidded to a stop. I looked back and also stopped, Nero pointed and I followed the finger,
“Well, why did you stop? We should have kept running to get there.” I said to Nero.
“I just wanted you to know that the castle was there.” Nero said. I shook my head and took off running again and reached the castle. We had already fought a bunch of small-fry demons, and I was hoping for excitement when we reached the castle. It was apparently floating in midair on a giant boulder, I leapt into the air and landed on the boulder and stood straight up. The castle was made out of stone and vines covered the walls. I walked up to the giant wooden door and grabbed the handle and pushed. I didn't move, I stood back and looked at the door. The door seemed as though it would open, but it didn't.
“What's wrong?” Nero asked me as he appeared next to me.
“This stupid door won't open!” I said, I clenched my hand into a fist and punched the door, it shuddered and dust fell off.
“Get out of the way Dante.” Nero said as he backed up, I stepped away and from the door and Nero started to run; he leapt off the ground and kicked the door with both of his feet. The door still didn't open; Nero landed on his feet and looked at the door,
“Dammit!” he murmured under his breath,
“Stubborn door isn't it? I don't think it likes us.” I said to Nero. He nodded and looked at me,
“Got any other ideas of how to get in?” He questioned, I shook my head,
“Unless the door suddenly opens by magic, I'm fresh out of ideas.” As if on cue, the door rumbled and opened silently,
“Well Dante, you have a way with words!” Nero told me, I rolled my eyes at Nero and strode in,
“Ghastly isn't it? It seems as though it's been abandoned for decades!” I said, as I looked around, the rocks were old and had green stuff all over it. I walked over to the rock wall and touched the green infestation. It stuck to my finger and I sniffed it, then it put my finger into my mouth. My eyes went wide and I almost gagged, I spit it out and tried to clean my tongue, Nero laughed,
“Dante, you're such an idiot! Last time I checked, you're not supposed to put weird looking stuff in your mouth!” Nero held his sides as though they were about to burst. I glared at him and he stopped,
“I just wanted to know what this stuff is, but I've never seen anything like it.” I said as I looked back at the wall,
“Dante, is it just me or is that stuff glowing?” Nero asked as he stepped forward and pointed to the substance with one of his glowing fingers.
“I think it is. Either that or your arm is making it glow.” I said as I looked closely at the green substance. Then, a loud scream rang through the halls. Nero and I looked at each other and ran off into the darkness towards the scream. The scream came again, loud and shrill as if someone was being murdered; I stopped as I saw a Frost standing over a lump on the ground, raising its claws for a final blow. I brought out my guns and shot at the Frost. I stumbled back and turned to me, its tail was swinging slowly as it screeched and disappeared into nothingness and appeared in front of me, I quickly put my guns back and grabbed the hilt of my sword and brought it down in a clean slice. The demon crashed to the ground and twitched, trying to get back up but my sword held it down. Then it fell still and melted into the ground, I looked up and saw more demons appear out of the darkness. “Nero, I could use a little help here!” I yelled, there was a gunshot and one of the demons fell to the ground, I looked over to Nero who was holding his two barreled gun and a light stream of smoke rose from it.
“Patience Dante, you shouldn't be so hurried!” Nero said as he pulled his sword of his back with his left hand. He stuck it in the ground and twisted the handle and it revved loudly.
“I just want to get this over with!” I said as I brought back my sword, “FREEZE!” I yelled, I threw Rebellion and it swung around like a boomerang cutting through the demons. I signaled for it to come back and I ran forward grabbing Rebellion out of the air and slashing through the demons. Nero followed suit and with a sweep of his sword, he got three demons and twisted the handle to get the ending result, the demons bursting into flames. Both of us spun and swung around with expert skills. I stopped and looked around to see if I had missed any demons. All the demons were on the ground squirming around and exploding. I looked at the lump and walked over to it. I examined it closely and saw it move; I kneeled next to it and saw that it was a girl. She looked at me in fear with her bloodied face. A long gash was on her cheek and she had bruises all over her body.
“P-please don't hurt me.” She whispered in a pleading voice,
“Don't worry kid, your safe now.” I said as I reached out a hand, she cringed and scooted back in a rough motion. I stood up and looked at Nero, “Hey Nero, I think I found the kid.”
“Really?” He asked as he walked over, he saw the girl and said, “Hey, are you ok?” He asked in a quiet voice, he knelt down and held out his hand. She looked at it in fear and screamed. Nero realized what hand he was holing out and pulled it back quickly, “Sorry! I don't want to scare you, nothing is going to hurt you, I promise.” Nero said to her in a soft voice, he held out his other hand and added, “Besides, we'll kill anything that will hurt you.” The girl looked at me and Nero and took his hand. Nero helped her stand up but she started to wobble and fell into Nero's arms. “Whoa, take it easy.” The girl looked up and nodded, she regained her balance and was able to stand on two feet.
“Well, we found the girl. What's your name kid?” I asked the girl. She looked at me and said,
“I-I don't remember.” I looked at the girl as though I was stunned,
“You don't remember your name?” I asked, she nodded slowly,
“I don't remember anything that happened; all that I remember is from the time that I woke up on a bed and now. I don't remember anything before that.” She said in a soft voice, I stared at her,
“Um, well this is strange. What do you want us to call you?” I asked,
“Whatever you want to call me I guess.” The girl said to me starting to lose her shyness,
“Well, I'm not very good with names. What about you Nero?” I looked at Nero,
“You're asking me? I'm no good with names either.” He said, the girl let out a loud sigh and both of us looked at her, she was rubbing her forehead with two fingers and a thumb,
“Men, they are so strange…” She looked at me with her brown eyes, “Just call me Whitney.”
“Sure, whatever.” I said to her,
“Whitney sounds like a good name.” complimented Nero; Whitney smiled at us and looked around,
“Got any ideas about how to get out?” She asked,
“Oh no, we're not trying to get out, we need to investigate what's going on and who's behind all this.” I told Whitney, she looked at me wide eyes,
“You've got to be kidding me.” She said,
“Nope, we have a job and we have to finish it.” I said, Whitney threw her head back and groaned,
“Just when I thought I was going to have a chance to escape this hell, I need to stay in it!” She exclaimed,
“Well, we got a little loudmouth don't we!” Nero said as he elbowed her softly,
“Ow! Careful, I got a bruise there!” She said to him as she rubbed the sore spot,
“Sorry.”
