Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ A New Threat ❯ Failed Beginnings ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Well too kick things off I own none of the Digimon characters and all lawsuits will be a waste of money because I have none. This will hopefully turn into something but I would like to hear your thoughts on this meager sample of things to come.

It'd been a hard four weeks for Takato. Ever since Guilmon and the others had to return to the digital world nothing had gone right for the young tamer. It was as if he was missing apart of himself. The others claimed they didn't feel it and that he would get over it soon. But that had been three weeks ago and he still felt like something was missing. Once they had bio-merged, Takato had felt an almost tangible link with the small dinosaur and even outside of their merged self he could feel Guilmon's strength, innocence, and love. Takato found that he could use these strengths during his battle with the D-reaper. Now he found that relied and depended on these feelings that were no longer there.

Now he found himself alone and without his partner. His schoolwork was shot and his card game was quickly going into the crapper. More importantly though his budding relationship with Jerry was suffering; she said that he was not the same person after the Digimon left. And apparently this new Takato was not to after her liking because she would talk to him less and less frequently and when she did it seemed strained like he was just some acquaintance from school.

All of this weighed heavily on Takato's mind, as he lay on his bed staring at the ceiling of his room. He simply couldn't find the will to do anything. In losing Guilmon he had not lost partner, he had lost apiece of himself. Once that piece is gone there was no replacing it there was just a hole. Part of what he had become was Guilmon and he just didn't know who he was anymore.

Is seemingly endless spiral of depression was interrupted when the door to his room opened.

"Takato you have a visitor," his father said a little too cheerfully.

"Hi goggle head," said an attractive young redhead wearing a shy sort of smile. Her hair was tied in a bun and she wore her customary broken heart t-shirt and blue jeans with tennis shoes. Takato was under too much self-induced emotional stress to notice that Rika was blushing slightly as she entered his room.

"Rika hi," Takato stammered as he began to wonder why she of all people was here.

"Nice room you have here," the intruder said.

"Uuugh thanks" Takato replied in growing bewilderment "why are you here Rika?"

"Gee aren't we the charmer there goggle head" Rika retorted with that shy smile returning to her lips.

"Sorry. I uugh … well uugh … it's just that" Takato's incoherent ramble was interrupted by a giggle from Rika. Wait a minute since when does Rika laugh much less giggle when she's around me? And what's with her? Smiling? Something is definitely going here. Takato thought as he observed Rika curiously looking around his room.

"So how's school going?" Rika asked the smile now fading and being replaced with a nervous sort of half grimace.

What? She's stalling. Rika never beats around the bush. "What's going on here" Takato said the last part aloud letting his suspicion and anger show on his face.

"Well you see there goggle head. I was … I was …" Rika was sweating now, the nerve she had built up on her walk over here had evaporated the minute she saw Takato's face. She couldn't do this. It was stupid. So what if he was depressed; its not like he cared when I was having a hard time. But that wasn't true she corrected herself; from the moment they had met Takato had done nothing but go out of his way to help and get to know her. So with this final thought she decided to bite the bullet and say what she came to say. "Takato I'm worried about you." There that wasn't so bad, but why is he looking at me like that? Oh my god he must think I'm a freak or just some stupid girl. Rika silently began to panick.

Meanwhile Takato felt like Rika had reversed gravity on him. I'M WORRIED ABOUT YOU. She's worried about ME? This wasn't last thing on his list of suspected motives this wasn't in the same universe as that list. Takato was barley able to tear himself away from the questions flying through his mind to in time to notice the panicked; I need to escape look that was dawning on Rika's face. He knew she would leave if he didn't say something soon.

Takato watched in stunned silence as Rika left his room and soon after his parents house/bread store. He recovered enough to watch a hurt looking Rika walk quickly down the street and away from his window. She never looked back.

Well this is where some fic writers, and no offense intended, would have the character proclaim there love at the age of lets say 9 and then fuck with the skill of a seasoned porn star. But not me I like to believe that while the character grew up quite a bit they do not have a clue what their doing when it comes to expressing feelings to one another please leave your comments and try not to be to harsh I'm an auto mechanic by trade not a writer.
