Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ A Perfect Picture ❯ Wreaking Havoc Among the Digi-brats ( Chapter 9 )
Disclaimer: I do not own Digimon or any of the characters thus associated with it. I own only this storyline.
Author's Note: I'm sorry, people! I really didn't mean to take so long in updating, but my muses just up and disappeared one night. I couldn't find another one that suited me, so I was stuck doing nothing until they showed back up, around 3:30 this morning. Anyhow, in celebration of my muses' return, here's then next chapter.
Chapter Nine: Wreaking Havoc Among the Digi-brats
Daisuke stretched and yawned, then snuggled closer to the warmth pressed up against him. He felt incredibly good right now, and well-rested, but he didn't want to move, not if it meant leaving Ken's arms.
A chuckle sounded next to his ear, and Daisuke slowly raised his head to meet Ken's gaze. The violet-eyed genius smiled down at him and murmured softly, "Sleep well, Dai-chan?" while running a hand through the smaller boy's soft spikes.
"Mmhmm," murmured Daisuke in reply, shifting against his lover. As he settled his head firmly on the other boy's pale chest, his eyes fell on one of the boards hanging in his room and he growled, low in his throat. He was too lazy to get up and do anything about it at the moment though.
Ken blinked as he felt the cinnamon haired boy tense against him, and followed Daisuke's gaze back behind him, where his eyes fell on the board that depicted pictures of Dai with the other Digidestined. He felt a familiar tug inside of him, and his lips curled into a sneer. "Would you like to see it torn down?" he asked his koibito.
When Daisuke nodded, he slipped off the bed and pulled the hanging down, careful not to rip the wall. Holding the board, he turned back to Daisuke and asked, "What would like to do with it?"
Daisuke thought for a moment before replying, "I want to take it to the Digital and watch it burn. Maybe we'll run into the others there as well." Ken nodded and smiled, then froze for a split second, glancing at the doorway. Someone or something had just knocked on the door.
Wrapping the sheets around himself, Ken glided over to the door and opened it cautiously, then grinned when Wormmon and Veemon fell into the room in a small heap of blue and green fur. The two digimon grinned back at him, then Veemon bounced up and hopped onto Daisuke, who greeted him very enthusiastically.
Once the initial greetings were over, Daisuke climbed out of bed and began to dress, talking animatedly with Veemon the whole time. Ken got himself dressed as well, and he and Wormmon shared their own quiet conversation. Wormmon wanted to know what had happened, and so Ken explained it to him as best he could. When the little green digimon cringed after Ken told him about waking up in the Kaiser's clothes, the blue-haired teenager smiled softly and assured him that he had no intention of hurting any digimon, much less Wormmon or Veemon.
Veemon was busy questioning Daisuke about the other Digidestined. He sensed that his partner didn't like them any more, but he wanted to know why. He sided with his friend, of course, but it was still nice to have a reason, and Daisuke was only too glad to talk to the little guy.
After they finished explaining, the two boys and their digimon partners headed for the Digital World, Ken hanging on to the picture board. Once there, Ken's clothes again transformed into those of the Kaiser, while Daisuke remained in his regular attire. Daisuke headed off to his left, and Ken followed, figuring that his lover knew where he was going.
On the way, they passed several digimon, all who smiled at the two boys and bowed, greeting them formally. They called Ken `Kaiser', but it was Daisuke that they called master. Of course, he rolled his eyes and told them to quit calling him that, but they just smiled and continued to call him their master anyhow.
The Kaiser glanced over at Daisuke, who flashed a bright grin back at him and launched into an explanation. "I've known for a while that the other Digidestined had no need and very little respect for me. I figured that sooner or later, either I'd break off from them, or they'd simply leave me out of the loop, so I started planning ahead. Veemon and I have spoken to hundreds of digimon here, trying to ascertain where their loyalty lay."
"Since they all acknowledge that if wasn't for the two of us, Belialvamdemon would never have been destroyed, they have vowed loyalty to us should we ever separate from the other Destined. In return, I have promised that we would not use force to make them serve us, which includes dark rings and spirals and spires, among other things, which actually works out for the best."
Ken frowned at him, trying to follow his train of thought. Suddenly, his eyes widened and he continued where Daisuke had left off. "The advantage in that is that if they serve us without any visible force, then the other children have nothing to destroy to free them, because they're acting of their own free will to begin with. And the Digidestined won't want to destroy any innocent digimon."
Suddenly, he grinned at the Bearer of Courage. "You've learned from my earlier mistakes as the Digimon Kaiser," he stated softly. Daisuke nodded and hugged Ken, pleased with his intelligence. He had always known the other boy was an excellent strategist, but he wasn't sure if he'd understand what Daisuke had done.
He had indeed learned from his mistakes, and there was no way he was going to fall into one of the childish traps the Destined tended to lay. After all, between him and Ken, the others were going to be sinking in quicksand over their heads. The two of them were indeed a formidable force, and not one to be taken lightly.
Cresting a hill, Daisuke grinned as the Kaiser gasped behind him. There was his old base, floating a mile above the ground, with two Airdramon on the ground waiting for them. Meandering his way down into the valley, Daisuke helped Veemon onto the waiting digimon and leaped up lightly himself, pausing while the Kaiser did the same.
Once they were both situated, the Airdramon went airborne and flew them up to the base, coming to rest in a small courtyard outside the front gates. Ken and Daisuke hopped off the digimon, who, now free of their burdens, took to the air again. Daisuke waved to them as they took off, then grinned at Ken. "Ready to see what I've done with the old base?" he asked his best friend. Ken nodded and followed his lover in.
They passed several corridors lit by torchlight, and Daisuke promised him the full tour later on. Of course, since it was his old base, he could always explore on his own too. They passed several holding pens where various digimon were held, unringed. They greeted Daisuke and Ken enthusiastically, and Veemon and Wormmon were treated as old friends. Daisuke explained that these digimon were ones that had agreed to be part of their army and were permitted to remain in the base whenever they wished to.
As they moved further into the base, they began to meet more digimon, all who greeted them with cheerful smiles and encouraging words. Ken looked askance at his boyfriend, and murmured, "How long exactly have you been planning this Dai-chan?" The smaller boy shrugged nonchalantly and replied, "For about two months now."
The Kaiser froze in his tracks and just stared at Daisuke. "You've been planning this for two months, and you managed to keep it hidden, even from me?" Dai had the grace to look abashed, but then grinned unrepentantly at the Kaiser. "Of course. I knew that sooner or later I was going to leave them, and I wasn't sure if you'd try to talk me out of this if I let you know. Daemon capturing us like that was just luck."
Ken narrowed his eyes at him, and Daisuke elaborated. "If we act differently than before, the others will most likely lay it at that stupid digimon's feet and try to snap us out of it. However, that also means that we can play both sides of the fence, at least for a little while. We'll pretend that we want their help when they're around, and continue securing the Digital World when they aren't. This way, we might be able to destroy Daemon quicker than if we worked alone, and by the time they catch on, it'll be too late."
The Kaiser felt his lips curl up in a smirk, but didn't bother to try and tame it. He didn't need to, not in front of his consort and their two digimon partners. "You do realize that Daemon never intended to actually target the Digital World at all, just it's protectors, right?" Daisuke nodded. It was true-Daemon's actions were wrought out of a need for vengeance-the attack on the two boys was personal.
However, once he was destroyed, it didn't matter if the Digidestined children were banished from the World. If new evil cropped up that Ken and Daisuke couldn't handle, then they had no doubt that a new team of Chosen would be brought into the scene, and perhaps they'd show a little more respect for their elders.
If not, the same thing would happen to them-the Kaiser and his consort would use them to defeat the evil, then chase them out of the digital World for good. Besides, if they didn't show respect for the two boys, then they would find it very difficult to obtain help from the digimon that weren't their chosen partners.
Ken realized that he was still holding the picture board from Daisuke's room and he glanced down at it. The chocolate-eyed boy followed his gaze and curled his lip up in disgust. "You know, I've got a better idea for it. C'mon." Turning away, he led the way down to the dungeons and took the pictures off the board. He placed the pictures of each of the other Digidestined-excluding Ken, of course, since he had his own board-in a different cell.
Satisfied, he called a Veggiemon to dispose of the board, then stood back, admiring his handiwork. "There, now they each have their own personalized cell," he smirked. Shaking his head in mock exasperation, Ken couldn't help but smile at the viciousness he heard in his lover's voice. Dai-chan really didn't like the other children; perhaps he never had.
Both Daisuke's and Veemon's stomachs growled, bringing them abruptly back to reality. Grabbing Ken and Wormmon, the two partners dragged their friends up the stairs and into the large dining area, where a magnificent feast awaited them. The four friends wasted no time in digging in, and were soon leaning back in their chairs, sated.
Daisuke gave a loud moan of appreciation and licked his lips. "They've improved since I started eating here. Yup, they've improved a lot." Ken snickered, relieved that Daisuke still appeared to be the same boy he had fallen in love with-a smart, caring, funny boy who only wanted to make others happy. Of course, that last part had changed a bit, but not much. He was still trying to please Ken and all the digimon; he had simply given up on his family and the other Digidestined, as well as their partners.
Ken's eyes widened as a new thought occurred to him. "Um, Daisuke?" When the other boy slit his eyes open, Ken continued. "What about my parents? I know they'll worry about me if I just disappear." Daisuke grinned and sat up, replying, "I've already got it all figured out, Ken-chan. For tonight, you can just call your parents and tell them you're staying over at my place. After tonight, you can make trips back and forth as often as you need to. After all, we both still have school and soccer. I don't expect us to drop everything. I just want this to be here for when we need it."
"Fortunately, the others are not aware of this place yet, and I would like to keep it that way for a little longer, which is why I've blocked our Digivice signals and I've made this base untraceable. It wouldn't do us any good for them to find us and figure out what we're up to before we're ready for them, ne Ken-chan?" Then he smirked. "Those Digi-pests won't even see us coming."
Yes, a cliffie. So sorry, but this was the best place to end it. If I get enough encouragement, I'll update quickly, okay? I am, however, also working on another fic at the moment and contemplating starting another one, so encouragement and reviews are needed to keep me on track, okay? Thanks everybody!
