Chapter Ten: Both Sides of the Fence

Daisuke glanced over at Ken as they headed for a portal to take them back to the real world. He knew that he was intelligent, but if he was good, then Ken was a Master. After all, hadn't he sent all the Digidestined, himself included, for a loop when he was the Kaiser? They had never suspected Ken Ichijouji, charming boy genius and soccer star, to be the Digimon Emperor. His charm and polite façade had thrown everybody off.

Of course, Daisuke had been the one to figure out that Ken and the Kaiser were the same person. He had cut Ken's ankle while sliding in to knock the ball away at a soccer match, and he noticed the blood on the Kaiser's outfit from where the wound had reopened. What irked him the most was that he didn't get the credit for figuring it out. They patted him on the head like a rambunctious puppy that had accidentally discovered buried treasure, and started plotting his downfall. Daisuke sulked inwardly for days after that incident, and still he risked his lives for the others. Life just wasn't fair.

Daisuke was so lost in thought that he didn't notice when they reached the Digi-portal, and so ran into Ken, sending them both tumbling. Flushing lightly, he apologized to the Kaiser as he got up and offered the other boy a hand. Ken grinned at him, his uncovered violet eyes alight with amusement. "What were you thinking about so hard that you weren't paying attention to where we were going? If I wasn't on your side, I could have easily led you in the wrong direction and sent you wherever I chose."

Daisuke smirked back at him and replied, "No, you couldn't have. After all, it was me who brought you down, well, me and my digimon partner here," he amended when Veemon shot a mock glare at him. "Besides, I was thinking about you, and surely you weren't complaining when I fell on top of you," he added smugly.

Now it was Ken's turn to flush. Turning away, he sighed in mock exasperation and replied, "Well, I suppose since it was thoughts of me that distracted you so much, I can forgive you this time." Daisuke grinned as they were pulled through the portal and into his bedroom, where they both ended up sprawled on the floor.

Daisuke picked himself up enough for Ken to turn over, then settled back down on top of him. The digimon had already left through the cat-flap Daisuke had installed for Veemon, no doubt heading for the kitchen to get some nourishment. Grinning, he leaned down and delivered a small kiss to the tip of Ken's nose.

Settling himself more comfortably against Ken, he murmured, "Well, now what? We have the place to ourselves for quite a while, and no Digidestined in sight yet. By the way, how are we going to pull this off?" When Ken just looked at him, he elaborated, "I understand the basic concept of playing both sides of the fence, and it's probably similar to the way I veil my true emotions under humor and boundless energy, but I doubt it's exactly the same. Besides, you were excellent at being two different people, so you get to take charge and tell me what to do."

Ken grinned up at him, and with a few quick movements, had Daisuke pinned on his back under him. "Well, if I'm in charge, then I get to be on top, first of all." When his lover nodded, he continued, "Secondly, you act like you normally do, and let me bring up Daemon and explain what happened. We'll practice beforehand in case the others are actually intelligent enough to separate us and get both our stories, hoping there will be some dissonance between them, though I doubt the thought will even cross their tiny little minds."

Daisuke grinned up at him. "There's the Kaiser that I know and love," he stated cheekily, then arched his hips upward, making his intentions crystal clear to the bluenette straddling him. Ken gasped, then narrowed his eyes. "I don't think so, pet. I'm the Kaiser, you're the Consort, remember? I'm in charge." With that, he quickly bent down and captured Daisuke's lips with his, grinding himself into the smaller boy.

In a matter of moments, they were both undressed and he had Daisuke writhing beneath him, begging him for more. Smirking, the Kaiser trailed his lips down his lover's throat and nibbled his way up to his ear, where he murmured, "Seeing you squirm is so delicious, Dai-pet." At the new name, Daisuke moaned again and arched up, striving for more contact. Ken brought his mouth back to Daisuke's, and for a long while no words were spoken that weren't screams.

When they were finished, they lay limply on the floor, trying to get up the energy to take a shower, or at least move to the bed. Ken moved first, shifting and rolling off of his lover, then clamoring into Daisuke's bed. The cinnamon-haired boy followed soon after, and they just cuddled together under the covers, agreeing wordlessly that as much fun as a joint bath would be, there was time for it later. Shortly afterwards, they were both asleep, wrapped up in each other's arms.

Several hours later, Daisuke was woken up by a faint, but persistent beeping noise. Glancing around, he noticed that the digimon had returned and were curled up together at the foot of the bed. Ken was laying next to him, pressed against his side, one arm across his chest and a leg entwined with his. His best friend's head was pillowed on his shoulder.

The beeping sounded again, and Daisuke swept the room with his gaze, trying to locate it. There, on the bedside table, his Digi-vice was beeping, signaling that he had an e-mail. Groaning inaudibly to himself, he reached across Ken and snatched the 'vice off the table, checking the e-mail.

It was from Hikari, asking where they were and if they were okay. At the end, it stated that if they didn't have a reply in ten minutes, then they were going back to the Digital World with Koushiro to see if the computer genius could break the shielding around Daemon's lair.

Sighing, Daisuke nudged his lover, waking him with gentle words. Once he was fully aware, Daisuke read the e-mail to him, then waited for Ken's recommendation. He assumed that Ken had gotten a similar message on his own Digi-vice, since it concerned both of them.

Ken thought quickly, then had Daisuke write back that they had escaped, since the shielding appeared to only work to keep people out, and that they were back in the real world and staying together, and would talk with them later, since they were both tired from their ordeal and the subsequent battle. No need to mention that the battle occurred in the bedroom, of course.

That done, Daisuke tossed the Digi-vice back onto the bedside table and grinned at Ken, snuggling back down beside him. "Think they'll buy it?" Ken just nodded, his eyes already closing again, and murmured, "Of course they will. Why shouldn't they? It's similar to other e-mails we've sent, and it's not like they know what Daemon wanted with us." Daisuke nodded in acceptance, and both boys drifted off to sleep again.

They awoke again four hours later and climbed out of bed, heading for the shower. Taking a long bath, they indulged in each other a bit more, then toweled off and headed for a meeting with the other Digidestined. Neither particularly wanted to attend, but Ken pointed out that if they didn't go, then the other Chosen were likely to come looking for them and demand an explanation, which may lead to their discovery of just what they were up to.

They met up with the other Destined at the park, down by the soccer field. When the others saw them approaching, their faces were awash with relief, and they smiled at the two boys. Hikari moved up and gave them each a hug, and Miyako fawned over Ken as usual, making sure he was all right and completely ignoring Daisuke, which was fine by him. Ken put up his shields and played the role of charming, kind Ken Ichijouji to perfection, causing Daisuke to admire him all over again.

Daisuke, in the meantime, put on his boisterous attitude and assured them that they were both all right, inserting a bit of bragging in there as well-in other words, being the typical amiable, overconfident boy that everybody saw him as. The others just rolled their eyes at his antics and smiled, humoring him. That burned, but Daisuke had never let his emotions show before, and he'd be damned if he'd start now, especially since he had a goal in mind. So he just ignored the condescension they showed him and continued to play 'dancing bear' as he had dubbed it.

Once they were all settled, Ken began to talk. He told them about how Daemon had opened the shield to let them pass through, then set it back up so the others couldn't get in. He explained that the evil digimon had sent an army to capture them, hoping to destroy the two who had been the most powerful of those who had banished him to the Dark Ocean.

At this point, Ken paused, seeming to think about something, then sighed and just stated, "Nothing unusual happened. We were caught, we fought, we escaped, we came back here and slept. That's it." The others glanced at him suspiciously. They knew that he had glossed over what had happened, but by making it so obvious that he had, Ken knew they wouldn't question him any further.

The others quickly agreed that hunting and destroying Daemon was to be their first course of action. Since it was too late to do anything right away, they decided to wait until the weekend to go to the Digital World. That agreed upon, they all set off for home. Ken invited Daisuke to stay the night at his house this time around, which the younger boy eagerly accepted.

As they walked to Ken's house in Tamachi, they began planning how they were going to irritate the Digidestined. Since all the digimon that worked with them did so of their own free will, it ought to confuse them. Of course, there was no doubt that Takeru would insist they split up into teams to search for Daemon when they got there and found the valley empty, so the Kaiser and Dai could stage an attack on the others, then simply pretend that they too were attacked.

The last words said on the subject before they reached Ken's home were: "And that's how you play both sides of the fence, Dai-pet."

All right. Here we are. I hope to get the next chapter up soon, as soon as my muses get some rest. Anyhow, review please, let me know how I'm doing so far. Arigato!
