Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ a Tangled Web ❯ A Tangeld Web ( Chapter 4 )
A Tangled Web.
Ken runs along the sidewalks of Odiba trying to out run the pain in his chest, his heart. Tears streaming down his face are hidden by his long violet hair and the lightly falling rain. The night is quite cold and there was talk of a possible snowstorm. But to ken that doesn't matter. The one he cares for doesn't care for him. The one he loves didn't even feel the need to answer him, to even tell him if he was hated. He now knows that indifference hurts more than hate, because hate is something. The emptiness inside him just seems to be growing and growing. As if it were threatening to consume his soul, his very being.
Stumbling, he lands on his knees and releases his pent up tears. Not caring if the world sees his anguish.
~!~!~!~
Running aimlessly through the streets, Daisuke searches for one that cares or cared for him, the one he hurt. Pulling his coat tighter to his body he note how his breath comes out in large puffs. He vaguely recalls something about snow on the news this morning.
~I've got to find him. This is all my fault. If only I had said something sooner he would never have disappeared like this.~
As he starts to round a corner that passes by the park he pauses to catch his breath.
~Damn... How am I going to find him? He could be anywhere. God, this rain feels like it's starting to freeze. This is not good. I need to find him, I have to. Where could he be? I need to think. First I need to find out where I am. Then I might, might be able to locate ken…~
He looks around himself, looking for any signs of where he was and if Ken had passed by there.
~Ok, I'm by a park. Matt said that TK said that he saw Ken running past their place. So… if he kept up in that direction he could have go inside the park. Wow that sounds cliché. Hmph, cliché is a Digi Destineds middle name. Right, to the park it is.~
Running the paths of the park, he searches thoroughly. The pain in his chest growing worse as more time is spent on his search. Whether it was from the running or from his feeling of guilt he wasn't completely sure.
~Great, now I have no idea what part of the park I'm in. Brilliant Daisuke! You try to fix something terrible that you caused and get lost in the park. You knew that he was shy. You knew that if you were in his shoes that you would have done the same thing. You knew you should have told him how you felt when you had the chance. But you being the idiot you are didn't think. Not once did you type what you felt. You are such a fool.
And now… now he's wondering around god knows where thinking you hate and despise him! For all you know he could be hurt or worse because of you. That's right you. Not Kari, you. She did what was right. How could I have been so blind.~
He stops as this last thought goes thru his mind. Pulling his goggles down so that they're hanging around his neck, he rubs his hands over his face and then pulls them thru his hair. Trying desperately to sort thru his jumbled thoughts.
~This is al-. Stop it! Self-pity isn't going to help you find him! What's that famous line? 'Oh what a tangled web we weave'? Ironic how the Internet, the World Wide Web was involved. Wait! Didn't we talk about meeting some place? Where did we talk about meeting? Come on think… we were talking about, about what?!? Crests, friendship, Jun… dragons… and the park! That's it! We were talking about meeting by the dragon fountain in the park! Uhg! Why couldn't I think of that sooner?~
He looks around then runs up to a board with a map of the park on it. nt noticing the falling snow.
~I am here and the dragon fountain is… all the way on the other side of the park. Great… it'll take ten minuets to walk there, five if I run. I better get started.~
He charges off in the direction the map says. Worry starting to set in as he trips and stumbles thru the park. The snow falling ever thicker as the time passes. Wiping the snow from his eyes, he trips on a knarld root that was covered by small drift.
~uhg! This is the fifth time I've fallen! Maybe I should pull my goggles over my eyes. That way the snow wont hurt them and I sho-… snow? Oh my god… there has to be at least three inches on the ground! I have t hurry. Please be ok Ken.~
With this new incentive he moves faster, all the while looking out for things that might trip him or the new patches of ice that were forming.
His tact paid off as he spied the fountain in the distance. But no sign of ken.
~He has to be here! Where else could he have gone? Ok… I can't give up yet. I'm still a little bit away from the fountain. Maybe I just can't see him from where I'm standing,. Yeah that's it. That has to be it.~
Coming to the side of the fountain he starts to circle it. Hoping that he'll find ken sitting on the edge of the fountain. Unfortunately hope isn't always reality.
~No…~
~!~!~!~
~Cold, so cold…~
Ken had no idea how long he had been lying there, all he new was that it was getting colder. And that it was snowing. He knew the last part for sure because when the tears had finally started to stop; there had been a good dusting of snow on him. That had been a good time ago. Now, it was starting to become harder to think past the cold and the pain that cold was causing.
~I… have to... stay awake… but it's so cold.~
So there on the ground, in a half crouched position, exhaustion and exposure finally over came him. Exhaustion from his run, his tears, and his troubled hart.
He never saw his angel running towards him.
~!~!~!~
"NO! Ken!" Daisuke yelled as he ran up to ken.
Ken was laying n the ground covered in snow. No puffs of steam, no movement, he just laid there. And that sent a rush of terror thru Daisukes body.
~No, this can't be happening. He wouldn't give up so easily, would he?~
Brushing the snow off ken, Dai turns him over. He takes in a sharp breath at the site of Ken's face. Ken's hair was stiff in some places where it had frozen from the cold and his lips were blue from the cold.
"Come on Ken! Wake up!" Daisuke shouts as he shakes Ken, Ken however doesn't respond.
~This can't be happening…~
"Ken please. Wake. Up! Please? I'm so sorry." as he holds Ken and cries, his warm tears fall on ken's face.
"…suke?"
Dai lift's his face and looks at ken, who after trying t say his name started t shake.
"Ken?"
~He's awake! More importantly he's alive! But why's he shaking?~
"…cold."
~Duh! Ok, I have to get him some place warm. But where? Wait… Matt's is near by!~
"Ok, Ken hang on. I'm gona get you to matt's where it's warm. I'm not going to loss you. Just hang on."
Not even waiting for a response he picks ken up and starts to make his way to Matt's apartment. Hoping that someone will be home and willing to help him.
~!~!~!~
"Oh TK, this is all my fault. I should have just told him to tell Dai to his face, not use my name to find out if Dai liked him. I don't think I could forgive myself if something happened to either of them."
Kari starts to cry into TK's shoulder again. TK holds on tighter to her.
"It'll be ok Kari. You'll see, nothing bad will have happened to them."
"But they haven't contacted anyone, and it's been over an hour."
"Don't worry; they might be playing a joke on us. They probably worked every thing out and are hanging out someplace. What do you think Matt?"
Matt looks up from his computer and nods. Ever since Daisuke disappeared he and the other destined have been talking with each other, and Demiveemon, trying to find out where Dai and Ken ran off to. But they were coming to a stand still because both Dai and Ken had closed the IM window they had talked to each other thru.
As if that wasn't bad enough, the weather reporter was saying the there was blizzard like conditions out side. There was about 8-10 inches of snow on the ground. And considering the fact that the two in question had left when it was still rain brings another thought to mind. They could be freezing if they were still out there.
Matt had been out side one time with wet hair, it didn't take long for it to freeze and with his hair frozen he had been even colder. He could hardly imagine what could happen to their friends out side in weather like this.
*Ding dong*
Every one in the apartment looks up, startled.
"Hey come on Matt! Open up the door!"
"Oh my god... That's Daisuke!" Kari grabs on to TK.
"Hang on Dai! I'm coming!" Matt yells as he runs to the door.
"HURRY!"
"Dai! Where the hell have you be-" Matt stops short as he opens the door to see his friend standing there.
Standing there holding Ken. who from a quick glance looked to be frozen. Matt quickly pulled them inside.
"TK tell the other's that Dai and Ken are here. Kari get something warm for them to drink. I don't care what. Soup would be best, but any thing would do at the moment!"
"Ok." the two get started.
"Dai, take Ken over to the couch and take off all of the wet clothes from the both of you that you can. There's a blanket on the couch that you can wrap around the two of you. Keep him warm. I'm going to get some dry clothes for you two and some more blankets."
Dai nods and starts over to the couch.
"Ok I told every one Matt, now what should I do?"
"Call their parents. Tell them that they came over here to visit and are staying because of the storm. When you get that done go help Kari."
"Got it."
~!~!~!~
"This can't be happening. Come on Ken stay awake!" dai all but yelled at ken. dai had for the most part gotten them both out of as much of their wet clothes as he dared. he was now holding ken close to himself to keep him warm.
"Here."
He looks up t see Kari and TK standing near the side of the couch. Kari is holding some blankets and TK is carrying a tray wit some mugs on it.
"Thanks Kari."
"Matt said that you need to get Ken to drink the soup. It'll help to warm him up."
"Ok. Ken? Come on Ken wake up. Please?"
"…suke?"
"Yeah, it's me. Ok I need you to drink this. It'll help warm you up, ok?"
Dai feels Ken give a slight nod.
"Good, ok I'm going to sit you up a bit."
Slowly but surly Daisuke get's ken to drink the soup. As Ken starts to finish it he starts to shiver violently. Matt putts another warm blanket on them and uses a hairdryer and towel to dry their hair, since they can't do it.
"Ok, how do you feel Ken?"
"C..c..old." Ken manages to say as he moves closer to Dai.
"Is he going to be ok Matt?" TK asks. Kari and Daisuke look at matt for his answer.
"Jyou says that after we get him warmed up that he should be fine, but it might be a good idea to keep him awake for awhile, at least until he stops shivering."
"I'll do it."
"You sure Dai? You were pretty frozen yourself when you showed up."
"I'll be fine, but thanks anyways Kari."
"All right then. If it's ever things ok then we should all get some rest. Dai, if you want some one else to take over feel free to wake any of us up. Ok?"
"Okay Matt. And thanks."
"Your welcome."
Matt heads to his room as TK shows Kari to the guest room. On his way back Daisuke stops him.
"Hey TK?"
"Yeah Dai?"
"How long where we out there?"
"You guys were out there for a good hour or more."
Dais jaw drops open at this statement.
"And before you ask, no I'm not kidding. Well, night Dai."
"Thanks. Night TK."
~!~!~!~
~Well, it's been a couple of hours and Ken's finally starting to stop shaking. Now he can get some rest.~
Dai looks down and watches ken.
~He wouldn't be like this if I told him. Damn, why did I have to get so worked up about him using Karis screen name. She was just trying to help. If I had only told him how much I care for him this would never have happened. He would never have run out side. He would never have been so close to freezing to death. He wouldn't be in my arms right now, trying to stay warm. And it's all my fault.~
He feels Ken shift. As Dai looks down he sees Ken open his eyes.
"Hmm…?"
"Morning Ken. Welcome back to the land of the living."
"Daisuke? What am I doing in your arms? Barely clothed?"
Daisuke feels his cheeks burn with a blush.
"Uhmm.. You were freezing and I had to get you out of the wet clothes, so that you could warm up and I guess I kinda forgot to put the other dry clothes on you."
"I shouldn't be here." Ken says as he tries to move away.
"Yes, you should be here."
Ken stops and looks at him.
"Don't tease me. I know you just did this out of guilt."
"No… well kinda… I ran out into a rain storm that became a blizzard originally because of guilt, but I'm holding you out of love." realizing what he just admitted to he feels his blush darken.
"Do you mean that?"
"That I love you? Yea, I do."
Ken smiles. He then leans over and kisses Dai lightly on the lips. Then snuggles up to him as much as he can.
"Good, because I love you two."
So with smiles on both of their faces, the new couple slips off into the land of dreams. Happy with the thought that n matter what, they now have each other and will never be caught out in the lonely cold again.
~The End~
Note: ::sniff:: sorry, so what do you think? Now I could have been really mean and posted it all as separate chapters, but I just couldn't. I was so close to crying at some parts! ::sniffle:: yeah… so, please tell me what you think. This was my first serious Kensuke/Daiken. I really enjoyed writing it. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
