Davis opened his eyes slowly. His head was hurting and he was having a good deal of trouble remembering anything that had happened to him.
"Veemon?" he muttered "Kari? TJ?"
There was no reply. Davis shook off the cobwebs from his mind and looked around.
He was in a small stone room. There were no windows or visible lights but there was a sort of pale bluish light coming from somewhere. It was completely bare apart from a small grey water jug and a plate with some bread on it beside the jug. He tried to move and heard a strange scraping sound, and something cold on his wrists. He was chained to the wall.
"Uh oh..." Davis whispered. Closing his eyes again, he tried to remember what had happened.
They'd been walking along in the Digital World. The others had been going back through into the real world. Davis had held out his Digivice...
Then someone had grabbed him. Davis had a confused memory of strong arms around him, then something damp being pressed over his face. After that, the memories faded into blackness.
"Veemon?" he shouted again, just in case his friend could hear him. He wasn't sure why he wanted that to be true, the walls were plainly thick stone. But maybe Veemon was outside the door or something...
There was no reply. Davis swallowed and pushed himself to his feet. He tried to walk forwards. The chains were long ones and let him move mostly freely but stopped him short of the door so he couldn't reach it, not even to kick. Davis strained at the chains but they didn't give.
"Hey!" Davis yelled "Hey! Let me out of here! Let me out of here! This isn't fair dammit! Kaiser! Kaiser, let me OUT!"
There was no response although Davis continued yelling for several minutes. Then he gave up and sat down again. Glancing hopefully at the water jug, he noticed that it was full of water. He suddenly realised that he was very, very thirsty. The chains were loose enough not to restrict him and he drank almost half the jug before he realised that he didn't know when he'd get any more and made himself put it down. He ate about half the bread too. After that, there was nothing to do but sit on the damp floor and wait. Davis didn't like it. He got bored very easily and this was especially dull.
"Let me out!" he yelled eventually "Open the door would you? Let me OUT!"
He looked around the room again. It hadn't changed. But it was getting colder.
Miserably, Davis drew himself up into a ball and waited. And waited.
He was actually dozing off when the door opened. He quickly jerked himself up, staring at the doorway.
"Hello Davis."
"Let me go!" Davis yelled at him "Let me go right now!"
"No."
The Kaiser - also known as Ken Ichijouji - smiled at him quite pleasantly, then walked over. Davis glowered at him.
"What do you want with me?" he demanded.
The Kaiser didn't say anything. He unlocked the chains.
"Come on."
"Where are you taking me?" Davis yelled. He was getting angrier by the minute.
"I'm taking you to a more comfortable room," the Kaiser said coolly "Unless you want to stay in here?"
Davis didn't. Reluctantly, he followed the Kaiser.
"What do you want with me?" he asked as they walked.
The Kaiser didn't answer. He led Davis into a smallish room. This room however, the brightly lit with a large bed and a chest of drawers.
"There's a bathroom through there," the Kaiser said coolly. "I'll have some food brought up to you presently."
"What is this?" Davis demanded furiously "You can't lock me in here! Don't you dare!"
But the Kaiser had already locked the door. Davis battered on it angrily for quite some time but it was too solid to break and the Kaiser had obviously moved away and couldn't hear him. Crossly, Davis moved into the bathroom to see if there was a way out of that. There wasn't. Davis eyed the large marble bath uncertainly. It looked big enough to drown in.
Maybe that was what the Kaiser intended to do to him.
Davis shivered nervously and left the bathroom. He really didn't want to think about that. Walking over to the bed, he sat on it with a thump. It indented dramatically, then bounced upwards, moving with a wave. It was a water bed.
Davis couldn't help grinning with excitement. Kicking off his shoes, he scrambled onto the bed properly and lay down, bouncing gently up and down. He'd always wanted a go on a water bed.
For a while he forgot his danger and just lay there, bouncing gently and letting it ripple beneath him. He only remembered that he was in fact a prisoner when the door opened. A Dark Ringed Digimon walked in. It bowed respectfully to Davis, then deposited a tray of food and drink and the end of the bed. Then it bowed again and left. Davis stared after it, then scrambled over to the food hungrily.
It was all his favourites.
Davis couldn't help frowning. How did Ken know his favourite foods? The one time they'd met in the real world, they hadn't discussed anything like that and he doubted that he'd ever mentioned it in the Digital World either. So how did he know?
After a moment, Davis shrugged and began to eat. No matter what it was, he was very hungry and they were his favourite foods.
Almost as soon as he'd finished eating, a great tiredness over-took him. Suddenly, all he wanted to do was sleep. He barely managed to crawl onto his bed before dropping into a deep unconsciousness.
* * * *
Ken sat on his throne, watching the screen silently as another Digimon came in and removed the tray. Davis didn't even stir which was only to be expected. Wormmon had obviously been right about the soporific properties of the herb he'd called Rudra. Davis was completely drugged.
'He's so beautiful when he sleeps...'
Ken couldn't help smiling. He knew that Davis normally snored but obviously either the drugs or the water bed was stopping that. He looked peaceful.
"Master?"
"Shut up Wormmon," Ken ordered, not looking round.
"Master, the Digidestined are coming this way, looking for the base."
Ken sighed.
"I see," he said "Then we'd better get moving. Did the Worrobmon do what I told them?"
"Yes Master."
Ken smiled.
"Then let's go underground."
The base jerked and then began to move downwards. Davis's waterbed rippled underneath him and he shifted nervously. Ken noticed.
"Wormmon," he said "Watch things here. When we get that deep - " He pointed to a mark of a gauge measuring their depth " - you stop us going down and we start going right by pressing that. Okay? I will be down with Davis for a while."
"Yes Master," Wormmon said.
Ken walked down to Davis's room. Davis's peaceful face was scrunched with a frown. Obviously, the movement had got through his sleep.
"It's all right love," Ken whispered tenderly, stroking Davis's hair "We've just moving so we won't be found. That's all. Don't be afraid my love..."
Davis stirred restlessly under his fingers.
"Make the boat stop rocking," he mumbled.
Ken giggled. Pulling himself up so he was lying beside Davis, he wrapped an arm round the boy's shoulders, letting the bed rock them both soothingly.
"Don't worry love," he whispered "I'll stop rocking soon. Very soon. In the meantime, you just wait and it'll all be fine, you'll see..."
Davis's eyelids flickered a little, then he snuggled down and sank back into the deep sleep. Ken knew that he ought to return to Wormmon and make sure the stupid insect didn't make a mess of everything. But he didn't want to. Instead, he pulled Davis close into his arms and lay there, just loving the feeling of Davis's body against his, listening to Davis's soft steady breaths.
'Mine....he's mine now. Mine. Mine. Mine....'
* * * *
Davis awoke feeling like he'd been asleep for years. His mouth felt like it was filled with cotton wool and his limbs felt stiff. And he still felt so sleepy...
'Drugged. The food was drugged...'
Angry, Davis tried to shake off his drowsiness. He had to wake up, had to fight...
Only his brain wouldn't. Every time he tried to focus, his brain drifted off into some other place. He could feel the tendrils of sleepy fog plucking at the corners of his mind. He began vaguely aware that the water bed was jiggling, as though it was being jolted. He tried to open his eyes but he couldn't really manage it.
"It's all right love," a soothing voice whispered "Just go back to sleep."
"No..." Davis mumbled.
A hand gently stroked his hair and began to sing a soothing little song. At first Davis thought it was in a foreign language but then he distinctly heard the word 'saucepan' a few times and realised that it wasn't. Whatever it was, it was immensely soothing and the sleep fog soon over-shadowed Davis's mind again and he slept.
* * * *
When he next awoke, the jolting had stopped and the fog of sleep was completely gone. He sat up then froze.
The Kaiser was lying next to him, propped up on one elbow, staring at him.
"What the hell are you doing?" Davis yelled.
The Kaiser smiled gently.
"Has anyone ever told you how beautiful you are when you sleep?" he asked quietly.
"What?" Davis spluttered.
"You're beautiful when you sleep," the Kaiser repeated, still in the same soft, dreamy voice.
"Right," Davis said after a moment. He rolled off the bed and tried to recover his wits properly.
"You drugged me!"
"I just wanted to keep you quiet for a while," the Kaiser said, not getting up from the bed "I didn't want you to exhaust yourself."
"How dare you drug me? You've no right!"
"I have every right," the Kaiser said, his voice going icy cold. "You are here now, and as such belong to me."
"I don't belong to anybody!" Davis yelled "How dare you say that! Let me go!"
"I can't do that," the Kaiser said, standing up "You're mine now and will stay here with me."
"You must be joking!"
"No I am not."
The Kaiser walked up to him and touched Davis's cheek gently. Davis jerked away.
"Stay away from me!"
The Kaiser looked...almost hurt. Davis was slightly surprised.
"Don't be upset," the Kaiser said "I'm not going to hurt you Davis. You'll like it here."
Davis stared at him and shook his head in disbelief.
"You will, I promise," the Kaiser said "I'll take care of you. You'll have a wonderful time. No one will hurt you. You'll be able to do pretty much as you like, within reason of course. You'll be happy."
"You're crazy!" Davis yelled again "My friends will come for me!"
"Your friends will never find us," the Kaiser said quietly "I won't let them. You will live with me Davis. And you are already mine."
"I'm not yours!"
Angry, Davis lashed out violently, his fist connecting with the side of the Kaiser's face. Ken staggered.
"That was stupid," he said quietly.
The whip hit Davis across the face with a sharp stab of violent pain. He couldn't help crying out, his hands instinctively covering his face. The pain was intense and he bit back tears.
"Oh Davis..."
The Kaiser gently pulled his hands away and touched the mark with cool fingers.
"Why did you make me do that?" he asked softly "I didn't want to do that. I don't want to hurt you. I never want to hurt you. Oh poor Davis, look at your face."
He sounded genuinely upset.
"Oh...come on Davy, come on. We'll sort this out, don't worry..."
Davis was completely confused. The Kaiser was acting like a concerned friend or relative. He actually sounded worried. Davis let himself be led. There didn't seem much else to do. Ken took him into another room and sat him down, then got out a first aid kit and started dabbing stuff onto the welt that made it sting.
"Ow!"
"Sorry my love."
'My love?'
"Here," the Kaiser said "Drink this."
"What is it?"
"A sedative."
"No! You won't drug me again!"
"Come on Davy, drink up," the Kaiser said "Come on. Drink up."
Davis struggled not to, but the Kaiser held the cup at his lips and made him drink from it. Instantly, the room and the Kaiser spun into a brightly coloured blur and Davis sank down into unconscious again.
* * * *
When he awoke this time, his room was dark. Someone had changed him into dark satin pyjamas and tucked him into bed with a hot water bottle, still warm against his stomach. Repressing a shudder at the thought of the Kaiser changing his clothes, Davis got out of bed and tried the door. It was locked. Davis tried to find a light switch. There didn't seem to be one.
"Come on!" he whispered frustratedly "There must be a way of turning the lights on! Come on! Come on!"
He kept feeling around until something made him look round. He was in time to see a shadow moving quickly across the room.
Something alive was in the room with him.
"Kaiser?" Davis croaked.
The shadow had been too small to the Kaiser. It had been small and pressed against the ground like a big spider or some other creature...
Davis inched over to the bed and sprang onto it, looking around in terror. Why, oh why, couldn't he find a light?
"Oh let me out of here," he whispered "Please let me out of here, please let me out of here, please let me out of here..."
He didn't realise that he was still chanting steadily until he accidentally bit his tongue. Then he shut up, just staring fearfully around. He thought he could see things all around him now, things moving, things scuttling. He could hear them breathing, hear little insect legs scuttling...
Something lunged at him. Davis screamed and tried to beat it off. There were things all around him, grabbing at him, attacking him, he couldn't see...
"Davis! Davis, what's wrong? What are you doing? Stop!"
Light - wonderful bright warm light - spilled around him and warm hands grabbed his arms. Ken was kneeling on the bed in front of him, his face alarmed.
"What's the matter?"
"There was something in here with me!" Davis screamed "Something attacked me! Things..."
"There's nothing in here Davis."
"No, no, there was I tell you!" Davis shouted "Lots of things, creepy insect, ghostly things. Things..."
Ken hugged him.
"Davis, you had a bad dream," he whispered "Or a hallucination brought on by the sedative. I thought I might have given you too much."
"Hal-hallucination?" Davis stammered.
"Yes. It wasn't real. There's nothing in here."
He cradled Davis in his arms. Davis was beginning to calm down and was feeling very stupid, not to mention embarrassed and suddenly vulnerable. He was in his enemy's arms, clutching him like a baby!
Slowly, he pulled back from Ken. Ken looked at him.
"There's nothing to be afraid of Davis," he said soothingly "Nothing but the shadows of your own mind. I told you, I won't let anyone hurt you."
"I couldn't find the light," Davis said.
"There isn't a switch in here. Only outside."
"I need a switch," Davis said "What if I need something in the night?"
Ken looked at him.
"I know," he said "We didn't have time to prepare the room for you properly."
He smiled.
"Don't worry. We'll sort it out. In the meantime, would you like to come and share my bed?"
Davis paused. Something about the way Ken had said that...
'But maybe I can sneak out and find my Digivice and escape! And I don't want to sleep in the dark...'
"Okay."
Ken let him through the corridors and took him into a huge room. Davis only got a blurred impression of it before Ken was carefully tucking him into bed and then snuggling down beside him.
"You won't try to run away, will you love?" he whispered.
"No," Davis lied, another chill going through him. 'Love...'
"Good."
To Davis's shock and slight horror, Ken wrapped an arm round Davis's body and snuggled up, his head on Davis's chest. Davis gulped. He didn't like this at all. He waited until Ken's breathing was soft and even, then tried to slither away. But Ken's grip tightened and he muttered something. Davis waited, then tried again. But it didn't work.
Suddenly fear swept over him. He was stuck here. He was trapped until his friends came for him. And what if they never found him? What if they were looking but the Kaiser's base was too hidden? Or what if they weren't looking? What if they didn't care? And Veemon...what had happened to Veemon? He'd been with Davis when Davis had been kidnapped, Davis knew that. So where was he now?
Tears began to run down Davis's face. He closed his eyes, hoping to trap them under his eyelids but they continued to dribble down his cheeks. He wanted to go home.
He tried not to make any noise but tiny whimpers kept escaping him and he was trembling.
"Davis?"
Ken sat up beside him.
"Oh Davis," he said softly "Don't cry! Shhhhh, shhhhh, it's all right, it's all right, don't cry..."
The arms around him tightened, holding him close. A hand gently stroked his hair. Davis jerked away.
"Leave me alone!" he snarled through his tears "I hate you! I hate you and I want to go home!"
Ken - no, not Ken, the Kaiser - looked hurt, as though Davis was saying something cruel to someone he was close to.
"Davis, don't say that," he said "Don't hate me. I'm not going to..."
"You keep saying that!" Davis cried "I'm already hurting! I want to go home!"
Ken hung his head for a moment.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
For a second, Davis thought he might have got through to him. But then Ken looked up, his eyes hard.
"Will you go to sleep now?" he asked harshly "Or do I have to drug you again?"
"You won't drug me!" Davis shouted.
"I will if I must."
"No!"
Davis jumped at him, taking Ken by surprise. The two of them rolled off the bed, wrestling with each other. Davis wasn't sure what he was trying to do but he knew that he wanted to hurt Ken, hurt him and escape from this.
But Ken was strong, stronger than Davis could ever be. He threw Davis off and Davis struck his head. As he rubbed it, trying to blink away the hazy confusion, he felt something being injected into his arm.
Then the room spun again and everything was dark.
* * * *
"Master?"
Ken looked down at Wormmon at his feet.
"What?"
"Davis hasn't woken up yet Master."
"He'll wake up soon," Ken said coldly, looking at the screen. Davis was curled up on the bed in a peaceful slumber. Ken ached with wanting to go down and join him, snuggle up in his loves arms...
But no. Not yet. Not yet.
He turned away from the screen.
"Tell me when he does," he ordered harshly.
"Yes Master," Wormmon agreed.
Ken sat on his throne, trying not to worry. What if he'd messed up the dose? What if Davis was sick? What if he was dying? What if....
He had to stop thinking about this. Swallowing, he focused on the other screens. He could see the Digidestined, frantically searching for Davis.
'You won't find him. You won't find him, you won't take my Davis away, you won't....'
Wormmon watching as Ken's body tensed and relaxed. He couldn't help being nervous. What was wrong with Ken? What was it about this Davis that made him so strange?
Wormmon didn't know.
* * * *
Davis felt sick when he woke up. He sat up and the bed 'waved' beneath him. That did it. Davis threw up.
"Oh God..."
Crawling off his bed, he fell onto the floor and was sick again. He felt horrible.
'Damn Ken, damn him to hell!'
Shaking, he realised that he didn't want to move. He just sat there, trying to warm up.
"Davis?"
Davis wanted to scream but he couldn't. Ken knelt down beside him and wiped Davis's mouth with a tissue, then lifted him up.
"You need a bath," he said quietly "I'll get a Digimon to change your bed. In the meantime, let's get you cleaned."
"Fuck off," Davis snapped limply.
Ken ignored him. He carried Davis into the bathroom and began filling the bath with warm water and bubbles. Davis struggled up to his feet and swayed. Ken looked at him.
"Don't!" he said "Sit down. You might faint and hurt your head."
"I don't want your help!" Davis spat at him.
Ken choose to ignore this. He calmly finished running the bath, then caught hold of him. Davis realised that Ken was planning to strip him and started kicking.
"No!"
"Stop it Davis," Ken said "We're both boys. Don't be ashamed."
He easily stripped the weakened Davis and carefully lifted him into the bath. Davis had to admit that it felt wonderful. He was warm and the bubble bath smelt nice.
"There you are," Ken said softly "Just relax. It's all right..."
"Like hell," Davis muttered dopily. He could feel himself dropping off again, bathed in heat and the scent of the bubbles.
Then Ken started to wash him and he woke up fast.
"What are you doing? Stop it!"
"You need cleaning," Ken said calmly.
"Not by YOU I don't! Get off me!"
"Davis, stop it."
Ken sounded gentle and reproving.
"I'm not going to hurt you. Don't be so silly."
"Let me go! Stop it! Please stop it!"
Davis didn't mean to say the please. It sounded like he was begging and he hated to do that. But he wanted Ken off him, he wanted him off so much. This was horrible and it felt wrong, so wrong...
"Ken, PLEASE!"
Ken looked at him, his eyes hurt and confused.
"I'm only trying to help," he said.
"Don't!" Davis cried "Don't! If you want to help me, let me go! Let me go home!"
"Davis..."
"No! Please! Just let me GO!"
Ken swallowed. For a moment, Davis thought he was going to relent. Then Ken sighed.
"Don't resist me Davis," he said "The more you resist, the more I have to hurt you."
Davis squeezed his eyes shut, struggling with the bitter tears that were trying to run down his cheeks.
"No..."
Ken ignored him. He washed Davis very carefully and very gently all over. Davis just lay there, quite still, fighting the tears. When Ken got to his groin, a sick shudder ran through him.
"Ken don't. Not there..."
Ken paused. Then he obediently moved past it. Davis was relieved but his mind was filled with fear. What did Ken want from him? Surely....surely he couldn't want...that? Right?
"Okay. Out you get."
The fuzziness had cleared from Davis's head. He could stand without feeling dizzy. Silently, he dried and dressed himself, wishing Ken wasn't staring.
"There you are," Ken said sounding pleased "Better?"
"No."
"Oh."
Ken sounded surprised. Davis looked at him.
"When are you going to let me go home?" he asked, trying to sound unworried "You can't keep me here forever."
"Yes I can."
"My friends will find us."
"Your friends never will."
"They will!"
"They will not."
Talking about his friends reminded Davis of something else, something he couldn't believe he hadn't thought of before.
"Veemon! What have you done with Veemon?"
"He's here."
"Where?"
"In the Digimon Holding Area of course," Ken said.
"I want to see him."
Ken frowned.
"Let me see him!" Davis yelled.
"Will you be good if I do?"
Davis swallowed. He didn't want to have to say that. But...but Veemon...
"Yes," he said "I promise."
He didn't have to keep his promise after all.
"Good. Come on then."
Ken led him down into the Digimon Holding Area. Davis didn't look at all the miserable Digimon on each side of him. It was too horrible.
Veemon was in the end cell. He looked tired and miserable.
"Veemon!"
"Davis!"
Veemon sprang at the bars. Davis knelt down beside him, reaching out gently.
"Veemon, are you okay?"
"I'm fine!"
Veemon gave him a small grin.
"What about you? You look pale!"
"Oh I'm just great you know," Davis said "The Great Davis isn't worried by anything as silly as being captured by a lunatic! Not at all!"
Veemon giggled.
"He hasn't hurt you?"
"Oh no," Davis said, deciding not to mention being drugged and having hallucinations and humiliation of being washed. No need to worry Veemon.
"Can he come out?" he asked the Kaiser.
"Of course not! Don't be stupid!"
"But I want Veemon with me."
"Certainly not!"
Davis sighed and turned back to Veemon.
"Sorry little guy," he whispered.
"Davis," Veemon whispered back "Don't let him break you. He wants to break you. Don't let him. Stay strong no matter what! Promise me!"
Davis nodded.
"I promise. You stay strong too okay?"
"I will."
Davis grinned.
"We're not beaten yet!" he said.
"No way!" Veemon agreed.
Davis petted his Digimon gently through the bars. Veemon smiled at him.
"Come on," the Kaiser said abruptly "You've had long enough."
"See ya Veemon!" Davis called, smiling in what he hoped was a brave manner.
"Bye Davis!" Veemon called as Davis was taken away.
"That was hardly any time," Davis protested sulkily.
"I shouldn't have even given you that," Ken replied "You're lucky I'm in a good mood."
Davis snorted.
"I feel so honoured and grateful," he said sarcastically.
Ken looked at him but didn't say anything.
"What do you want to do?" he asked.
Davis blinked. This was...strange.
"Aside from leave? Go home? Have Veemon with me? See my friends? Gee, let me think..."
Ken was looking increasingly huffy and Davis knew he was taking a risk baiting Ken like this but what was he supposed to do? For a genius, Ken seemed to be being incredibly stupid.
"Ice-cream," he said.
"Ice-cream?"
Davis nodded.
"Yes," he said "I want a large chocolate and toffee ice-cream with strawberry sauce, sprinkles, a large chocolate flake and a cherry on top."
Ken was blinking but then (slightly to Davis's surprise) he smiled.
"Sure! That's okay! Wormmon!"
Wormmon appeared so suddenly that it was obvious to Davis that the Digimon had been crouched behind a corner. Ken relayed Davis's order to him.
"Bring it to the throne room," he ordered "We'll be waiting."
Wormmon nodded and scuttled off. Ken smiled at Davis.
"It'll be along soon," he said "Come on."
Davis followed, frowning. He hadn't really meant that as a serious request. He'd only said it to irk Ken. But Ken seemed happy to do it.
'What's going on here? What does he want from me?'
Davis wished that he knew.
* * * *
The ice-cream was wonderful and Davis ate it quite happily. Ken silently watched him. It worried Davis at first but then he decided to ignore it. If Ken was trying to get to him, Davis would just have to prove that Ken couldn't. No way.
"Did you like it?" Ken asked softly.
"Yeah, it was great!" Davis said cheerfully "Nice one."
He shoved the bowl aside.
"Now, what about a walk?" he said hopefully.
"No," Ken said instantly.
"Why not?"
Ken looked genuinely regretful.
"You know I can't let you," he said gently "I don't trust you enough to not try and escape yet and I can't lose you. I'm sorry."
Davis scowled and slumped backwards. Ken looked miserable.
"Davis, please don't be sad," he said "You can E-mail your friends if you like and tell them you're okay."
"I can?"
Davis looked bright and hopeful.
"Really?"
"Sure. Come on."
Ken let him onto the computer and loaded up the E-mail section. Davis opened his own E-mail address and composed a message.
/Dear guys (especially Kari).
I know you must be worrying about me (especially you Kari, right?) but I'm OK. Ken's got me in his base but I don't know where we are and he's reading this over my shoulder so I couldn't tell you anyway. Veemon's okay too, I've seen him. He says hi (well, he didn't but we didn't know I could E-mail you then).
Please try not to worry about me. I'll be fine honestly. Ken's not starving me or anything, the worst he's done is drug me a couple of times. He gave me a really big ice-cream and I've got a really neat water bed so it's not all bad.
Love ya Kari.
Davis./
He re-read the E-mail, hoping it was okay. He knew that his friends would be worried sick about him and had tried to make them feel better. But he wasn't sure how much better they WOULD feel. Maybe he ought to erase the part about Ken drugging him...
"Davis, you have to get off soon," Ken said "The 'Net doesn't work very well here. Send your mail.
Davis sighed and added a PS.
/Please don't worry about me. I miss you all but I really am fine. And I'll make sure I stay that way too!/
Another thought suddenly occurred to him.
/Kari, tape Sailor Moon for me! I HATE missing Sailor Moon!/
Then he checked that it was addressed to all the Digidestined, then clicked 'Send'. Then Ken made him get off the computer and closed it down.
"What would you like to do now?" he asked "Do you want to play a game or something? Any sort of game?"
"No," Davis said flatly.
"We could watch Sailor Moon then?" Ken suggested "I have Sailor Moon videos."
"You?"
Davis snorted.
"You like Sailor Moon?"
"Sort of," Ken said after a moment.
"Sort of?"
"Well I knew you liked it," Ken said "So I made sure to stoke-pile some episodes."
Davis felt a chill go through him.
"You bought it because you knew I liked it?" he repeated slowly.
Ken nodded.
"I bought all your favourite videos and CD's," he said "And foods of course. I've tried to make everything just perfect for you!"
Davis stared at him, icy chills racing down his spine.
What was going on here?
* * * *
Davis found it difficult to enjoy Sailor Moon. Fears kept bubbling up inside him. What did the Kaiser want, really want? Was he trying to break Davis as Veemon said? He seemed - even more frighteningly in Davis's eyes - to be trying to keep Davis happy.
'Why does he want me happy? What does he want from me? Why won't he let me go?'
Davis shivered.
"Are you cold?"
Ken's voice was soft, concerned.
"No," Davis muttered.
"Then what's wrong?"
"None of your business!" Davis spat "It's not like you care!"
It was almost a test. He wanted to see what Ken would do.
For a moment, Ken looked miserable, hurt. Then his face hardened.
"You are my guest," he said stiffly "And therefore, I care about your well-being."
It was almost believable but Davis's fears could not be quieted by something like that.
"Just leave me alone!" he yelled "I'm not your guest! I'm your prisoner!"
"Davis..."
"What? Do you deny it?" Davis cried, leaping to his feet "I'm your prisoner! You won't let me leave, not even for a walk!"
Ken sprang up and grabbed his arms.
"Davis, I'm sorry," he said, his voice high-pitched "I'm sorry that I have to upset you! But soon it'll be all right! Trust me!"
Davis jerked an arm free and slapped him with all the force that he could muster. It knocked the glasses from Ken's face and Ken's indigo eyes stared at him, flooded with emotions. For a few moments, Davis stared into the eyes, drowning in the feelings, lost in them. He felt so strange...
Then Ken's lips were hard on his, his arms capturing Davis in a hungry embrace. Davis stood, frozen, shocked. When Ken drew away slightly to let them both breath before swooping back for another kiss, Davis woke up from his trance. Horrified, he pushed, trying to scrabble backwards.
"No. No! Stop it! Let me go!"
Ken released him and stepped back looking shocked. Davis wiped his lips unconsciously, staring at Ken with complete shock. Ken bent and picked up his glasses, replacing them over his eyes.
"Sorry," he said "I shouldn't have done that."
"You...you kissed me," Davis whispered.
"Yes. I....sorry."
"You kissed me!"
Davis couldn't stop saying it. It didn't seem real. Ken, the Kaiser, another boy....had kissed him? That...that was wrong. No one had ever kissed him before. He'd thought about kissing people, and yes, he had even vaguely fantasised about kissing boys and he had found Ken pretty attractive when they'd met but this was the Kaiser! And feeling attracted to someone wasn't the same as letting them actually kiss you!
"Oh my God," he whispered, sitting down "Oh God..."
Then he felt a small prick in the side of his neck. Ken had moved over silently, like a cat. And he was holding a needle in his hand.
"Ken..."
This time the drowsiness came slowly and with it came a dopey sort of peace. Davis leaned back in the chair and smiled dreamily at Ken, not really caring about anything. Ken carefully lifted him in his arms.
"Come on Davy," he said, his voice soft "Let's get you back to your room."
Davis closed his eyes and snuggled in Ken's arms, feeling drowsily content and unafraid. It was a nice feeling. He liked this feeling...
He slept.
* * * *
When he woke up, his body still felt heavy. He couldn't move a muscle and didn't really want to. He was so tired...
A part of his brain was nagging at him. Davis didn't want to but made himself pay attention to it.
Someone was lying on top of him.
The surge of panic was enough to get Davis to open his eyes. To his relief, he was still fully dressed. So was Ken. Ken was awake but not looking at him. His head was on Davis's chest and one of his hands were oh so slowly stroking Davis's side. He was singing something very softly to himself but Davis didn't recognise it. He wanted to throw Ken off but he couldn't. The drug filled his veins and he was trapped. He stared at the ceiling, swallowing painfully. Ken moved, looking at him. Davis hastily closed his eyes except for a tiny crack. He saw Ken smile, then felt his head being turned on one side.
"So beautiful," he heard Ken whisper, then felt soft lips gently pressing against his throat. Terrified, Davis squeezed his eyes tighter shut, trying to will movement into his body.
'Please don't let him hurt me, please don't let him hurt me...'
Ken was licking his neck now, his hand still steadily stroking Davis's side. It slipped under Davis's shirt to caress the skin. A tear forced itself from under Davis's eyelid and trickled down his cheek as Ken's tongue lapped at his skin.
'Ken I want you to stop...'
He couldn't say it but he couldn't stop thinking it. God, he wanted to be left alone, he desperately wanted to be left alone...
'Don't hurt me...'
The sleepiness crashed around him again. He couldn't stay awake, couldn't. Despite the fear of Ken touching him in his sleep, Davis quickly succumbed and darkness washed over him.
* * * *
When Davis woke up, he was alone. His brain felt fuzzy and he was thirsty. Scrambling up, he spotted a tray on the bedside table with a jug of apple juice on. He drank some gratefully then frowned.
His memories of the previous day were all fuzzy. He remembered the first part clearly but then...then it was all vague. He did however, have a pretty good idea. He remembered Ken kissing him and remembered Ken lying against him in the night.
Suddenly scared, Davis went into the bathroom and stripped, checking for marks. There were none. He dressed again, trying to think. What had happened to him? He couldn't completely remember. Just...just everything up to Sailor Moon, then....then....
That was where it all went fuzzy. His next clear memory was Ken's body pressed against his in bed, soft lips touching his throat, hands wandering...
Davis felt a violent tremble go through him. He sank down onto the floor and drew himself up. Why had Ken been touching him? Was it desire? Power? What? Why?
"Davis?"
Davis looked up. Ken was staring at him.
"How are you?" he asked gently.
Davis swallowed, trying to bring his courage back.
"Let me go."
It came out sounding squeaky but he kept going.
"This....this stupid joke has gone on long enough Ken! I want to go home NOW!"
"No."
Ken looked at him.
"Davis, why do you keep asking that? You know I can't let you go."
Davis turned away.
"I want to see Veemon."
"No."
"For God's sake, take me to Veemon!"
Davis didn't mean to scream but it came out as one. Suddenly he was on his feet, his fists clenched.
"Take me to Veemon now dammit!"
Ken walked towards him.
"Davis, what do you remember about yesterday?"
"You drugged me! You drugged me again!"
"All right, all right. Calm down."
"Let me see Veemon!"
"All right, now calm down. Please!"
Davis scowled, clenching his fists. Then he let Ken take him down to Veemon.
"Davis, how are you?"
Davis knelt down.
"Veemon!" he whispered "Veemon Ken was doing stuff...stuff he shouldn't do! Veemon, I'm so scared, he was touching me and he keeps drugging me, I'm so scared..."
"It's okay Davis," Veemon whispered, touching his friend through the bars "Don't be frightened! I promise you, it's okay! Don't be scared!"
Davis took a deep breath and rested his head against the bars.
"I'm scared Veemon," he whispered again.
"You'll be okay," Veemon said "Just stay strong. Remember, you promised me you would! Stay strong!"
Davis nodded.
"I promise Veemon," he said "Just...what should I do?"
"Try to escape if you can. Otherwise, just wait and stay strong."
Davis nodded.
"Thanks buddy," he said "You're the greatest buddy ever."
"Ah, TK's better than me," Veemon said.
"TO? No way dude!"
But suddenly Davis realised that he missed TK. He missed the blonde's jokes and his confidence. He missed all of them, even Yolei.
"Don't cry Davis."
He realised that a tear was running down his cheek and wiped it away quickly.
"Don't worry Veemon," he said "I'll think of something."
"I know you will. You'll be fine."
Davis squeezed his partners hand through the bars, then stood up and glowered at Ken. Ken ignored this. He led Davis back into his throne room.
"What do you want to do?" he asked.
"Nothing," Davis said, plonking himself down on the floor and leaning against the wall "I'll just sit here."
"Davis..."
"I don't want to do anything," Davis said "Like I said - I'm happy here."
Ken looked at him for a while, then turned to a computer and started typing. Davis tried not to fidget. He was bored but he didn't want to do anything with Ken. If that meant sitting in the same place all day then that was fine with him.
About two hours later, Davis was seriously considering dissecting himself purely for the amusement value. Shifting slightly, he couldn't help sighing.
"You don't have to pretend you know."
Davis looked at Ken who was watching him.
"Shut up," Davis said.
"Look, you can do whatever you want," Ken said.
"Except go home."
Ken slid off his chair so he was crouching beside Davis, who turned his face away.
"Look Davis, you'll get used to this, I swear," Ken said "I'm trying to make this easy for you. I don't want you unhappy. You'll enjoy yourself here once you get used to it."
"No I won't!" Davis yelled "How many times do I have to tell you? I want to go home and I want my family and friends and I want my freedom! Why can't you understand that? Has your hair-gel leaked into your brain so much that you've lost all reason?"
Silence. Ken suddenly looked furious. He raised his hand.
"That's it!" Davis sneered "Hit me! That's the only way you can deal with me telling you the truth isn't it?"
Ken paused, then lowered his hand.
"Davis," he said softly "I understand your feelings. But you will get used to this. Would you like to check your E-mails and see if anyone has E-mailed you back yet?"
"No," Davis said "I'm happy in my corner."
Ken gave a hiss of annoyance and walked back to his computer. Davis closed his eyes and leaned against the wall. Maybe he could just stop existing quietly. Anything had to be better than this.
"Why do you have to keep resisting me?" Ken yelled suddenly, banging his hands down on the keyboard with a loud clatter "I don't want to make you unhappy! I've got you here because I want you to BE happy! Why do you have to make it so hard?"
"Ken you can't just get people and make them happy!" Davis yelled "You don't know what makes me happy! You don't know anything about me!"
"I know everything I need to know about you!"
"You don't know anything!"
"I know you like Sailor Moon. I know your E-mail address. I know your friends and your school and the names of your family. I know your favourite foods and your favourite colour. I know your Digimon. I know what you like to read and I know your favourite films."
Davis stared at him.
"What?" he said eventually "How...how do you know all that?"
"I've been watching you," Ken said quietly.
"Watching me?"
Davis suddenly felt sick. Ken didn't seem to notice his discomfort.
"For some time now. Since the soccer match."
He got up and walked over, crouching down beside Davis.
"I know things that even the other Digidestined don't know about you," he said, his voice soft "I know everything about you."
"You've never been in my head!" Davis hissed, trying to hide his fear.
"I don't need to. I know enough from just watching you," Ken said softly.
He reached out and stroked some of Davis's hair off his forehead. Davis twitched away.
"Cut it out! Don't touch me!"
Ken didn't seem to hear. His eyes behind his glasses were fixed intently on Davis, boring holes into his skull.
"I know that I love you."
"WHAT?"
Before Davis could say any more, Ken had leaned forward and was kissing him deeply, his hands cradling the sides of Davis's face.
"Stop!" Davis gasped, drawing back "What are you doing?"
"Davis..."
Ken leaned back and kissed him again, harder this time. He slipped his arms round Davis, holding him tightly. Davis felt panicked and struggled.
"Stop! I don't want this Ken!"
Ken didn't even seem to hear. He began kissing Davis's neck instead, his hands slipping under Davis's shirt.
"Ken, please!"
Ken ignored him completely. It was as though he couldn't hear what Davis was saying. His kisses were rough, eager. He lifted Davis up and easily carried him into his - Ken's - room, dropping him on the bed and lying on top of him.
"Ken no!"
Ken began unfastening Davis's shirt, his eyes glazed with desperate lust. Davis could feel tears of terror in his eyes. Why wouldn't Ken stop? What was Ken going to do to him?
"Ken!"
Ken kissed him again, his lips pressing so hard of Davis's that they nearly cut into him.
"Ken please don't rape me!"
It came out as a scream, the final act of resistance before Davis started sobbing hysterically. Ken jerked back.
"Davis? Davis, I..."
Davis stared at him through the haze of tears. Ken looked horrified.
"Oh my God Davis, Davis I'm so sorry! Oh God!"
He pulled Davis up and hugged him frantically. Davis struggled backwards, his sobs tearing from his throat.
"Please don't cry! Oh God, Davis, I would never ever rape you. You have to believe me! I would never make you do anything that you don't want to do!"
He was crying too Davis suddenly realised, tears streaming down his face.
"Davis, please believe me!"
Davis nodded. He had never been more terrified in his life but all he could think of doing was just agreeing. Ken hugged him tighter.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered "I didn't mean to scare you, God I didn't."
Davis just shook his head, pressing his face into Ken's shoulder. Ken was crazy, he was really, really crazy. But the only thing he could do was the humour Ken and then maybe he'd get out of this okay, maybe...
"It's okay," he whispered "It's okay, I know, I know you didn't mean it, it's okay..."
Ken stroked his hair gently.
"I'll make it up to you," he whispered "I promise I will."
Davis nodded limply.
"Let's just sleep," he said miserably "I just want to sleep okay?"
Ken nodded.
"Yeah," he said "Yeah. Sleep. Okay.
He tucked Davis into his bed, his hands shaking. Then he curled up beside him, much to Davis's discomfort. But he was so scared and shocked that he didn't protest, just allowed himself to be hugged. Even though this was his imprisoner, this was the guy who'd just tried to rape him he needed comfort. He needed someone.
Davis's tears had slowed now. Still trembling with fear, he swallowed slowly, trying to make his mind work.
He had to get out of here. He had to.
* * * *
When he opened his eyes, Ken was not longer beside him. Davis slowly scrambled up and moved out into the throne room. Ken was sitting on his throne, looking at the screens. Davis saw his friends on one of them. They appeared to be looking for him. Kari was crying.
"Good morning Davis."
Davis jumped. He hadn't realised that Ken knew he was there.
"K-Ken."
"How'd you feel?"
"Lousy," Davis said uncertainly.
Ken looked at him.
"Do you want some breakfast?"
"No," Davis said. He went slowly over to his corner and sank down in it, terror still present in all his bones.
Ken turned back to staring at the screen.
"I have to kill them," he muttered.
"No!" Davis yelled "You can't!"
Ken looked at him.
"Davis," he said "You don't tell me what I can and can't do."
Davis gulped. Ken seemed to have dropped his cool, kindly attitude. He'd gone back to being the cruel and evil Kaiser.
"Ken," he said very softly "I....I want to go home now."
"I've told you; no."
Davis hunched further back in his corner. Ken suddenly switched off the screens and stood up.
"Come on," he said.
Davis followed obediently.
'I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid. I'm not afraid.'
"Here. Eat there."
Davis looked. Ken had set him up a table with a cooked breakfast on it. Slowly, Davis sat down and ate. He knew there was a possibly that it was drugged but he couldn't bring himself to care. He was so scared that even being helpless and unconscious seemed a better thing.
The food didn't seem to be drugged though. He finished it and then pushed the empty plate away.
"Thanks," he said nervously.
Ken sat down beside him and reached out, tracing the side of Davis's face.
"You don't have to be afraid," he said, sounding almost dreamy "Last night was a mistake. I didn't mean - or want - to hurt you. I'll never hurt you. I love you. I love you so much that it really, really hurts me inside. I have to have you with me always. But I'll never torture you or make you do anything that you don't want. I know that you want me Davis, I know that you desire me. And I'm willing to let you have what you want. But you just have to be with me permanently."
Leaning forward, he kissed Davis very softly. Davis remained completely still, trying not to tremble. The Kaiser drew away and smiled. Insanely.
"You'll be happy," he said softly "You'll be happy. I promise."
He turned and walked out. Davis slid down in his chair.
'Oh my God, I'm in deep trouble.'

/Dear guys.
Thanks for you E-mails. I liked them a lot. I appreciate them. They make me feel better.
I can't believe I've been hear for over a month now. It's crazy. And freaksome. I know you're still looking for me, don't worry about it. Anyway, I'm fine. Ken keeps a great big stock of chocolate chip cookie ice cream so I get junked up on sugar and run round in circles. The Digimon think I'm completely insane, it's very amusing.
Things are okay at the moment. Ken's been quiet, leaving me alone to myself. I have a pretty free run of the base. But he's always watching me, I know.
I've seen Veemon a couple of times. He's tired I think. I'm trying to convince Ken to let him go. He has no part in this.
I guess I'm feeling kinda down. Can't think of anything to say. I'll write to you guys soon okay? Please send me all the news, it makes me feel connected.
I love you guys, okay?
Hah ha! Just trying to freak you out by going all soppy! Did it work?
See ya! Davis./
Davis re-read his E-mail. He wanted to say what he really felt. He wanted to tell them how scared he was, how Ken seemed to be losing the last vestiges of sanity that he had. How Ken made Davis share his bed, how Ken kissed him and touched him sometimes. How so far Ken hadn't raped him but how he was terrified that Ken would. How he was only keeping strong because he'd promised Veemon and he had this one tenuous grip on his own reality. How he didn't think that he could bear it any more. How he thought that he was going insane because despite hating Ken and being terrified of Ken, a horrible feeling of respect and devotion was beginning to manifest. He'd read that that was normal of kidnapped people but he hated it, he loathed it, he couldn't bear it. And it frightened him.
Swallowing, Davis clicked 'send'. Then he looked at Ken who was staring over his shoulder.
"I'm sure they'll answer soon," he said.
"Yeah," Davis agreed, drawing himself backwards a little "Er...so..."
"You need a bath."
"Okay," Davis said meekly.
He never dared protest any more. Ken scared him so much. It was easy to see that Ken was completely unhinged by now. He stared at Davis all the time. He was sweet and light one minute, screaming and raving the next. Davis was never sure how to react any more. Sometimes meekness was the key, other times that made Ken crazy. Right now, meekness seemed to be what was required.
He let himself be taken to the bathroom and stripped. Ken quietly washed him. Davis closed his eyes, praying and hoping. Ken suddenly drew back.
"Finish yourself off today," he said "I have things to do."
Davis nodded. Quickly he scrubbed himself all over, trying to wash off the feel of Ken's fingers.
'I have to get out of there, I have to...'
He always did this. He played the 'Escape' game. How he'd escape and what he'd do when he got home.
'I'll push Ken down a flight of stairs. And while he's unconscious, I'll run and free Veemon, then get home. I'll call the other Digidestined and we'll feast on ice cream. Chocolate and caramel ice cream. Maybe some mint. Or chocolate chip cookie ice cream. Yeah, chocolate chip cookie ice cream. And we'll eat loads and loads and loads of it. Uh huh!'
Davis slowly scrambled out of his bath when it got cold. He was all wrinkly from the water.
But he didn't feel any cleaner.
He briefly considered making a run for it then abandoned that idea when he found a Black Ringed Digimon waiting for him.
"Are you done?" Ken asked coolly as he entered the throne room.
"Yes," Davis whispered.
"Good."
Ken turned to him, smiling in a funny way.
"I'm taking the Base to the surface soon," he said "You'd like to go outside wouldn't you?"
"Uh huh," Davis said, a spark of hope lighting up inside him. He hadn't seen sunlight for so long, it was like the idea of doing something that he hadn't done for years. A connection with the outside world.
"Yeah! That sounds great!" he said enthusiastically.
Ken smiled, the first actual kindly looking smile Davis had seen in a while. A flutter of pleasure went through Davis and he grinned.
"I love it when you smile," Ken said tenderly "It makes your face shine."
Davis wasn't sure how to react to that but he decided that it was a good thing. He scrambled up.
"Do we have to go to bed?" he said "Can't we watch a movie? Or something? I'm in the mood for some quality Buffy the Vampire Slayer!"
Ken shook his head.
"No. Bedtime for us. Come on."
Davis followed him and slid into his side of the bed. He felt Ken lie down beside him and the lights went off. For a while, there was silence. Davis was beginning to relax and feel like sleep was a possibility when Ken suddenly rolled over and started kissing his neck.
"No," Davis said, moving away. This was one thing that he always remained strong over. He was not ever, ever going to sleep with Ken. And he would never willingly allow Ken to touch him.
"Oh Davis..."
Ken sounded...odd. Davis had never heard him sound quite this way before.
Then suddenly Ken's hands were on his arms, icy cold like steel clamps. He wrenched Davis over and moved so he was sitting on top of him. Davis stared up at him, terror filling him.
"I don't think I can resist any more," Ken whispered, his hands still clamped round Davis's forearms.
"Ken..."
Davis was scared now, more scared than ever.
"Ken, you have to resist! You promised you wouldn't rape me! You promised!"
Ken looked down at him. He was breathing deeply, sounding strange and crazy.
"Oh God Davis, don't you see how much I need you?" he asked, his voice sounding thick "Can't you feel how much I need you?"
"Ken, please!"
Davis could feel tears in his eyes. He looked up at Ken's blank eyes and knew that nothing he said was going to stop Ken now.
"Ken please no..."
Ken leaned down and kissed him. Davis turned his head on one side and squeezed his eyes shut. He wanted to fight but all the bones in his body felt like they'd turned to jelly. All he could do you lie there as Ken kissed him all over, then forced him to roll over. He bit his lip as Ken entered him, ripping the insides up. He screamed in agony, blood spurting from his lip as he managed to remove a chunk. Ken kept thrusting, moaning with pleasure and joy until he came inside Davis. Then he rolled off.
"Davis? Was it good for you too?"
Something snapped. Davis turned and looked at him. He didn't want to think what he looked like, blood running down his chin, tears smearing his check. But he knew how he felt inside.
"Good?" he said. His voice sounded sort of quavery and he pushed the quaver away "Good? Shit Ken, you have no idea do you? You stupid, worthless idiot! You don't understand what you're doing do you?"
Ken stared at him. His eyes were narrowed but almost confused. It was plain that he didn't really understand what Davis was saying. Davis pushed himself up, keeping his eyes fixed on Ken's.
"I hate you," he said, putting emphasis on each word "I hate your horrible, rotten little guts. I would rather die that be here with you any longer. I am going home."
He swung himself out of the bed and began to dress.
"Davis....Davis what are you doing?"
"I'm getting dressed," Davis said, his voice now completely calm "When I'm dressed, you are going to give me my D-3 and D-Terminal. Then you're going to take me down the Veemon and then you are going to let us both go."
Ken gaped at him. Davis looked coldly at him.
"Go and get my D-3 and D-Terminal," he ordered "Now."
Ken looked at him. Davis saw tears in Ken's eyes for a moment. Then Ken turned and strode out. Davis swallowed.
Had it actually worked?
He turned to fasten up his shoes, biting his lip. Maybe he was going to get out...
Then Ken walked back in. Davis stood up.
"I'm ready to go."
He looked at Ken. Ken stared.
"No," he said, his voice very soft "No, you're not going anywhere."
"Yes I am," Davis said.
Ken shook his head. He walked over and shoved Davis violently, knocking him back onto the bed.
"You aren't leaving me," Ken said quietly "Not ever."
Then he brought up his arm and brought it down with great force onto Davis's chest, knocking him backwards. Davis didn't really realise what had happened until he felt a strange rush go through his body, a sort of giddy almost drunk feeling. Confused, he looked down.
His top was soaked in blood.
Slowly Davis looked up at Ken. Ken was holding a long bladed silvery knife in his hand.
A long bladed silvery knife that was glistening with blood.
Davis looked back at the wound. He would have expected it to hurt. But funnily enough, it didn't. All there was, was that strange giddy feeling. He found himself laughing, a strange sound in the silence. Ken was staring at him.
"You'll never leave me," he said, his voice strange "You'll never ever leave me. You'll always be here forever."
Davis looked back at the blood. He was beginning to feel cold now. Cold and sort of...sleepy. Slowly, he reached up and touched the blood on his chest, getting blood all over his fingers.
'I'm going to die' he thought slowly 'I'm going to die all alone. I'll never see any of the Digidestined again. I'm going to die...'
It didn't sound as awful as he'd thought it would. He was just sort of...drowsy. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to die after all. He looked back at Ken's face which was slowly beginning to blur. Then he reached up and slapped one of his blood soaked hands against Ken's face as hard as he could. Ken jerked back, his pale face now anointed with red blood.
"I hate you," Davis said dreamily "And no matter what happens, I will never be yours. Never ever. Because you're ugly and worthless and completely disgusting. And I'd never dream of ever falling in love with you."
Ken's mouth dropped open.
"How...you..."
Davis smiled.
"I hate you," he repeated "Always. Forever."
Then he dropped back against the pillows and let darkness sweep over him.
End of Part 2.
