Deaf & Mute

By KellyQ

He didn't know why he was moved here other than it wasn't going to be any more different than the other orphanages ... maybe getting more food ... that could've been it. He hated it .... he felt alienated from the other orphans. Why was he stuck here with all of these other kids when most of them had a disability or sick.

Kouji sat there at the table listening to music through his head-phones when a piece of paper was slipped under his nose. He opened one eye and looked at it. The paper was a drawing of him roughly sketched; Kouji just sighed closed his eye again totally ignoring the art work.

For the past few days, a deaf boy with brown hair, chocolate brown eyes and goggles has been trying to get Kouji's attention by just drawing roof sketches of him. The dark haired didn't understand why when he just clearly wanted to be left alone but how do you say that to a deaf boy who had so much life in his confused eyes?

Takuya did have an interposer ... a nice girl who had blonde hair and blue eyes named Izumi but she was sick with the cold so she had to stay in bed. Just my luck ...Kouji grumbled hearing Takuya make noise trying to get his attention. His hand started to tense up feeling his anger growing ... finally Kouji couldn't take it any more; he pulled his head-phones down to his shoulders looking at Takuya in the eyes.

"Look, just leave me alone and stop drawing me pictures of me! I hate them!"

The deaf boy just watched in confusion as the picture was just shoved back at him. Takuya looked at the picture then back at the other boy then taped on the counter again making baby noises trying to get Kouji's attention again.

"What part don't you understand," the dark haired boy yelled slamming his hand down on the table, "why won't you just leave me alone!!"

"Kouji!" A stern voice snapped.

He turned his head to see Mrs. Right walk up; her expression every stern and upset.

Mrs. Right was the caretaker for the children and made sure that they where fed, washed and kept a close eye on each of them.

"Do you need a nap?"

"I don't need a nap ..."

"Ahara ..." Takuya said waving his hand trying to get the ladies attention.

Mrs. Right turned her head to see Takuya's hands moving and she understood that he was saying. Kouji just rolled his eyes as he got up and started to walk way but he didn't get very fare though.

"And where do you think your going?"

"No where," Kouji responded with an annoyed look.

"Good. Now you need to apologize to Takuya."

Mrs. Right waited as she looked both of them. Kouji just looked at Takuya to see hurt in his eyes. Why does he hate me so much, the brown haired boy thought, are my drawings that bad? Takuya made some noises pointing at the picture. He then looked at Mrs. Right moving his fingers; she then looked at Kouji.

"He wants to know if his drawings are bad."

"They suck just like him."

With that he turned and walked to his bed as Mrs. Right sighed as she walked up and sat across the table. The dark haired boy watched from the corner of his eye as she tried to tell Takuya that he didn't like the drawings. It was a lie though, Kouji did like the drawings but it was just hard to show it ... it was just hard for him to show any kind of feelings .. ever since his twin brother died he never wanted anyone to come near him ... for the fear of that person leaving him.

Tightening his fists again; annoyed boy Takuya's baby noises, Kouji got up and walked out side to the swing set and sat down on the swing letting his legs move himself back and forth staring at the dry sand. This was just not his day ... why did Izumi have to get a cold? Why couldn't it be the other way around? He just didn't want to be around Takuya! Takuya was cheerful, dumb, and cute.

Cute?

Now where did that come from? It's true though. Takuya was cute and he just doesn't understand why. He got off the swing and walked over to the wall and sank down to the cold pavement brought his knees to his chest and looked at the sky noticing that it was going to rain that's when Kouji heard foot steps; he looked straight a head to see Takuya looking at him.

Kouji's eyes widened when Takuya got down on his hands and knees and crawled right up between his legs looking at him closely seaming to try and understand the other boy. Kouji finally looked away wanting him to be far away. After one moment Takuya reached out putting his gloved hand on Kouji's cheek turned his head until they where looking at each other in the eyes.

"Anah ..." Takuya said pointing to his own eye then at him then made a sad face pointing at Kouji's chest.

It took a moment for the dark haired boy to figure out what the deaf boy was trying to tell me then it arced to him that Takuya was saying. Kouji couldn't help but smile a little moving the other boy's hand.

"Yea, I guess you can say I'm sad," Kouji breathed turning his head making a sad face so that Takuya knew that he understood what he meant.

It was true. Kouji was sad and lonely. Takuya started to make noise getting Kouji's attention; the brown haired boy pointed to himself making a sad face then pointed at his own ears.

"Yea. It must be bad not having any hearing." Kouji said looking sympathetically at the boy, "I would be upset if I didn't have any hearing at all."

"Ahua ..." Takuya said again moving his hands in sighed language.

Kouji had no clue what the deaf boy was saying wishing someone here to interpret what he was saying. The only thing he got was the word sad. Was Takuya asking him why he saw sad?

"He's asking you why you look so sad all the time." Said Mrs. Right walking up.

"I was thinking about my dead brother and much I miss him." Kouji truthfully.

The dark haired boy watched as Mrs. Right's slander hands went to her temple then here and there in the air. She must be saying every word I said in sign language, Kouji thought ... after she stopped Takuya looked sadly at the dark haired boy as he made baby noises moving his hands here and there in the air.

"I had a brother too," Mrs. Right translated, "him and my parents died in a terrible car crash. That's how I lost my hearing."

Kouji sort of figured the last part as Takuya made a popping sound with his lips then putting his hands close to his ears putting his thumb's on top of his nails then pulling them out. That must be the Singh language for explosion, Kouji thought.

Now he felt sort of bad for Takuya, he lost his brother and hearing all because of a car crash; while Kouji's parents didn't really want anything to do with him and his brother.

"Your lucky," Kouji started, "you had parents that didn't just dump you because they didn't want anything to do with you."

"Now that's not true," Mrs. Right said before she translated it to Takuya.

Kouji just ignored it got up and started to walk back to the swing. It wasn't long before Takuya was right in front of him moving his hands in the air pointing to his lips then ears.

"What is he saying?"

"He's saying that you're luckier than must. You can talk and hear. So don't listen to music to loud or you'll end up like me."

The dark haired boy couldn't help but smile.

"I'll try."

Hate it like it? I might continue this fic if people want me too.
