Nov. 20 1748, High noon:

As Tk and Kari continued to ride back toward Paris, they talked of many things, Tk's past soon came up, this is where we join them.

"So Tk, I know that you are Hawkins pupil, but what of your family?" Kari asked looking at him.

"My family is not something I talk about with just anyone." Tk said calmly.

"I see..." Kari began to speak but was cut off by Tk.

"So you must promise me you will not tell anyone what I am about to tell you."

Kari looked at Tk for a moment before nodding her head. "Right I promise."

Tk took a deep breath and let it out before he began. "My father was a good man, or at least that is what my mother always told me." Tk began, but was interrupted by the sound of gun fire from behind. Looking back he saw men on horse back with rifles in hand.

"Stop right now and we won't kill you." One of the men yelled.

"I am sorry but we can not do that." Tk yelled back to him. "Kari when I say now I want you to take off as hard as you can."

Kari just nodded.

"NOW!!!" Tk yelled as he and Kari shot off on the horses.

The men on horse back quickly began to pursue them.

"Tk do you think we'll make it though this?" Kari asked as they flew down the road.

"Not at this pace, Kari have you ever jumped from one horse to another while moving?" Tk asked as the path reached a straight away.

Kari moved her horse close to Tk's before hopping on to the back of his horse. "I have now." She said with a smile.

Tk couldn't help but laugh at what she just did. "Ok well works for me." Tk said using the heels of his feet to tap the horse on its side, the horse began to speed up. "Come on boy we have to get out of here."

"Don't you have a name for him?" Kari asked as they the horse pushed even harder.

"No not yet." Tk answered.

"Why not?"

"Can't think of a good name for a horse with this much spirit, he wouldn't let anyone else but me ride him, and I had to leave out the saddle just to get that." Tk commented.

"Well in that case, how about Pegasus?" Kari asked as they continued to go down the rode faster than anything on record.

"Where did you get that name from?" Tk asked.

"In ancient Greek mythology, the Pegasus was an untamable winged horse that could only be ridden by the one true hero." Kari told him.

"Well I like the sound of that, what do you think boy, how does the name Pegasus sound to you?"

Almost as if in response to Tk's question the horse nodded its head.

"Alright Pegasus it is." Tk said smiling. "Now how about we get off this path." Tk saw a fork in the road.

"Go left." Kari shouted as they flew past the fork now on the left path.

"Left why left?" Tk asked as they continued on the path.

"The other two roads lead back to Paris, but this one goes else where." Kari answered.

"And where is else where?" Tk questioned.

"This path will take us into a deep wooded area, we should be able to hide there until they leave." Kari said looking back. "But I don't understand, those men looked like Cardinals guards."

"Why would the Cardinal do something like this?" Tk asked.

"Well truthfully they act as police for the area." Kari said as she looked at the road ahead. "Turn right." She said calmly.

"Ok, you heard the lady Pegasus." Tk said as they came up on the turn, turning hard Pegasus kicked up a great deal of dust, enough that they couldn't see the other road any more. Pegasus kept his pace of a good half hour after that before he had to slow. "Pegasus, you ok boy?" Tk asked as the horse stopped.

"He seems very tired Tk." Kari said as she hopped off the horse.

"Yeah I guess he is." Tk said getting off him self. "You did good Pegasus, you ran like the wind and kept it up for along time, we will rest near here." Tk then patted and rubbed Pegasus's head. "Come on let's find that's concealed from view."

Tk found an area where the ground dipped down low enough that they could stand and not be seen from the road. "Kari, over here." Tk yelled waving his arms, he then whistled to call Pegasus, he led Pegasus down in to the low lying area, and then took a seat.

Kari quickly joined them and looked Tk in the eye. "You care to continue your story now?" She asked smiling.

"Hmm, oh yeah that." Tk said looking at her. "Like I said my father was a good man, or so I was told, he died when I was very young, and I can't remember anything of him, my mom had told me that he was a musketeer, the stories she told me about everything he did while protecting king and country, those were the reasons I chose to become a musketeer my self, one night when I was six my mom and I were in town, and I had gotten lost in the crowd, I couldn't find her anywhere, no matter how hard I looked, after some time a man found me, he said that he knew how I was, and the I reminded him of my father, he told me that my mom was now unable of taking care of me, and the she had asked him to watch over me, I didn't understand what he had meant, the man was Hawkins and it was only after a year of him teaching me that understood enough to know she was never coming back, I was seven had no parents and was now in training of every kind, Hawkins had said over and over that a warrior must not only be strong and brave, but also cunning and intelligent, that brains could win a fight just as easily as brawn." Tk said as he looked at the ground.

"What's wrong Tk?" Kari asked seeing the look on his face. "If it hurts to talk about this then I will ask you to go no further."

"No it is not that it hurts t talk about it, it is what I did today, the guy who had taken you for his bride against your will, he was someone I knew once."

"What!? How did you know him?" Kari asked in a shocked tone.

"He was not always like that, he like me was one of Hawkins pupils, he and I were once like brothers, his name was Fredric, that is until he was taken away by Duke Willis, he had us fight one another in a little match to see who was a stronger fighter, Fredric won the match and was adopted by the Duke, he left that day and never returned, today was the first day I had seen him in eight years, and he didn't even know who I was, we fought and this time I won, but the stakes were much higher for both of us."

"So you won a fight against someone taught by the same man that taught you, how did you win?" Kari asked looking Tk in the face.

"I knew how to counter the attack he used, it was the same one that he used when we fought eight years ago, the only counter attack is a fatal one, I knew that he would use the attack, It was the same one I used to beat you father, if you want to know about my family that is all there is to tell." Tk said standing up. "We best get moving again."

"I guess so." Kari said as she stood. "From here we head straight, which will take us to a hidden path, which leads in to musketeer head quarters." Kari said as she looked around.

"Alright, how far?" Tk asked.

"Quite a ways from here." Kari said walking over to Pegasus.

Tk walked up behind Kari. "I am sorry for what Willis did."

"It's not your fault Tk, there is no reason for you to apologize for his actions."

"Kari if things had been only slightly different it would have been me in that carriage instead of Willis, and he would be the one here talking to you here."

"Tk, forget about your past, think of your future, and about me." Kari said turning around. "Let the good things be the only ones on your mind."

Tk smiled when she said this, he didn't know why but her words made him feel better. "Thank you Kari, now what do you say we get out of here." Tk said still smiling. "You up to running again Pegasus?"

Pegasus nodded his head as if in response to Tk's question.

"I thought you might be." Tk said getting up and on Pegasus's back. "Come on Kari." Tk said sticking out his hand.

"Right." Kari said with a nod of her head, she then grabbed Tk's hand he helped her up on to Pegasus's back.

"Come on boy let's go home, but don't over do it there is no need to go top speed right now." Tk said patting Pegasus on the neck, and then tapping him on his side with his heels. Pegasus went into a gallop and they were once more off for Paris.
