Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ DigiCraft ❯ Chapter 1
Chapter 1
"What the hell is this crap?" Legend muttered, wrinkling up her nose and staring from it to Kath. The black ooze had already crept its way out of the water (though still the infestation was in there too) and was on the ground. It seemed to be about a half an inch thick, and it smelled like sour apple. Legend stared at the ooze again. It seemed to be breathing. Legend shuddered at the thought.
"That's what we're here to find out," Kath said, kneeling beside the ooze and picking up a nearby stick. With the stick, she poked at the black ooze. It made a sickening slurp as the stick broke the surface that reminded Legend of the skin of peaches.
"That's what we're here to find out."
"Freaky stuff, no?" Legend sighed, and sat down on some visible grass where the infestation hadn't taken over-yet. She placed her elbows on her knees and rested her head in her hands as such, and watched as Kath kept poking the gooey mess with the stick.
"Dunno, looks rather interesting," Kath replied, not even taking the time to look at Legend while she spoke to her. She raised her head, and observed the area around. There seemed to be many flies buzzing just above the substance. She noted that the substance had begun to creep up the trees in the nearby forest, too.
"I'll tell you one thing," Foxermon sighed, "It's disgusting. And it stinks." The fox digimon took a step back from the ooze in discontent. A sigh came from a nearby digimon. Foxermon turned his head and his golden yellow eyes fell upon an exhausted looking Audramon had uttered the sigh.
"I'll tell you one thing," She muttered, "This ooze stuff is making most of the plants die. I find that ironic but most of all, unsettling. How exactly are we digimon suppose to get food if all of the vegetation is gone?
"…Uh…. we go the real world and eat cheese?" Asked Foxermon, raising an eyebrow but nonetheless looking somewhat uninterested. Audramon looked disappointed.
"…There's no hope for you."
"Yup." Foxermon agreed, nodding his head to emphasize his point.
"I just insulted you, though."
"Yup," Foxermon nodded his head again.
"…Never mind."
While the digimon were conversing about the elements of cheese (well, Foxermon was at least. Not too sure about Audramon. She may be the only sane one in the group) Kath continued to study the interesting slime. Legend sighed heavily, and leaned back on her hands.
"When you're done inspecting that…. erm…. interesting…. can't call it fascinating because it really isn't…interesting crap then can we get something to drink? I'm parched. Badly. Whoo." Legend let out a breath of air again in a sigh, but more of an exhausted sigh than anything.
"Maybe I should taste it. I may be able to analyze it then," Kath said. She reached out with her index finger slightly pointing towards the ooze. Legend made a face of pure disgust.
"Maybe I should taste it. I may be able to analyze it then.."
"EW! Now why would you want to do that?! Don't you remember what that digimon saw, where it ate the girl? Oh well, its your finger, so I don't care much what happens to it." Legend smirked, but as Kath grazed her finger along the top of the slime, part of it stuck to her finger, and Legend couldn't help but grimace. "You are really disgusting."
Kath ignored her. She glanced at her finger. It didn't seem to be hurting her finger, as her finger only tingled slightly. She shrugged her eyebrows and tasted the black stuff on her finger, as Legend made gagging noises in the background, and closed her eyes.
Foxermon didn't seem too shaken. After all, he had eaten more rancid things then that, however didn't feel like talking about it.
Kath shrugged and turned to Legend. Legend moved one of her fingers on the hand that covered her eyes.
"Is she ok?" Legend asked, not exactly all that frightened but enjoyed playing with people's minds. However Kath was used to this practice of Legend's.
"It's really sugary." Kath said, wiping the substance off on her pants. She licked her lips. "Slightly acidic though." Legend raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. "Also…since it seems to be sugar based that's probably why there's flies everywhere it …uh…slimes to.
"So we can eat this stuff." Foxermon bend at the knees and sniffed at the substance. It still smelled like sour apple, but the thought of sugar entranced Foxermon.
"Don't count on it," Kath said, getting to her feet and looking down at the fox digimon. He looked at her questionably. "Maybe its good for a taste-perhaps two-but if you make a meal out of it, you're gonna be running for the bushes a lot for a week."
"Ech.." Foxermon muttered, shaking his head.
"Anyways," Kath said, pushing her long bangs out of her face and under the little band that held them, "It appears to be that it absorbs sugar from whatever it catches. However being so sugary, you'd think it would be withering with maggots. But I guess that the substance is enough to kill them and dissolve their bodies, but its not acidic enough to harm my finger with such a small amount. Now if I went and dumped my arm in it, that may conjure another situation." Legend sort of smirked.
"You can tell all that from a taste?"
"You bet. But it takes a lot of brainpower to think up thesis's like this," Kath said, winking at Legend. Legend grumbled but didn't say anything. Kath decided to change the subject. "I wonder if it can dissolve glass. I wouldn't think it could. I'm going to try and get a sample." She reached into her travel bag and pulled out what appeared to be a test tube.
"True. But what if it does? You don't know. Then it'll burn through the glass, and kill all your supplies," Foxermon said with a grimace. Kath smiled at the fox digimon.
"Well then, I would have misjudged this substance then wouldn't I?" Kath was a pretty smart wanna be scientist. She tended to study whatever was the confusion substance, and then define what it is, and where it came from. Not often was her judgment incorrectly placed.
"Whatever you say," Foxermon said with a shrug. Audramon shrugged, but she didn't bother saying anything. She'd be ignored at this point. She knew Kath well. Kath won't listen to anyone when it comes to the elements of science.
Kath dipped the glass test tube into the substance. She got about half the test tube's length in the substance matter, then she closed it with the plastic cork. She looked into the clear container.

"Well, I got it. And it doesn't seem to be misbehaving."
"I still say that its gonna burn through the glass," Foxermon said. He seemed pretty caught up in his point. Kath laughed, shook her head, but didn't say a word. Foxermon took that as an insult that he wasn't worth reasoning or explaining to, but he didn't bother bringing it up.
"Gee, wonderful. Now that you're done being a scientist, please, can we-!" Legend was cut off by a scream that rang through the woods like a clear morning bell.
