Chapter II: Atanasoff

I rubbed my eyes and looked at the clock. I swore. I had to go to work in six hours. I exited iRO and checked my email. There were two messages. I was going to check the one from Nathaniel, but I was strangely drawn to the other one. It was from atanasoffdjm.factorymark.co.jp. It simply had one word: “hello.” Something compelled me to respond in turn.
Soon there was another message from the guy. It said, “do you want to meet me?” I sent my reply: “yes.” Not long after there was another message from the same email address. It merely had an attachment. My sister would have smacked me for opening it, but I did. It didn't say much, but it had a counter that led down from twenty. I didn't even try to stop it; I just let it go. When the timer ran out my screen swirled. Some unknown force seemed to force me to place my hand within my monitor.
I couldn't free my hand, but I wasn't worried. I smiled as I was drawn into the computer. I knew I was in for the adventure of my life…
When I regained perspective, I found myself standing upon the lowest stair in a spiral staircase. Without giving it a second thought, I moved myself to the top of the staircase. I didn't care that the only thing I could see around the stairs and me was a white abyss; it didn't seem to matter. When I arrived at the top of the stairs there was a pedestal. Upon the pedestal hovered an orb of incredible energy. “Atanasoff?”
The orb replied to my question with what seemed like a nod. “Yes, Mark. It is I. I summoned you to the Digital World to aid the Savior. Are you prepared?”
The question was a simple one, and I replied immediately. “Yes, Lord Atanasoff.”
“No formalities, please. Just Atanasoff.”
“But you are the Shadow of the First! How can I be expected to refer to you as merely Atanasoff?” I was, for the first time, shocked.
“Find a way. You say you are ready; I shall begin the lesson.”
“That's not necessary, Lo- sorry, Atanasoff. I understand why I am here.”
Atanasoff paused a moment. “Yes, I believe you do…” he said finally. “Okay. We'll skip right to the gifts. First is your DigiVice.” A palm-sized, egg-shaped device appeared in my hand. It was white around the screen and transparent purple surrounded the white. It had transparent purple buttons in the upper right, one on top of the other. In the lower center was a circular white button. I put it on my belt. “That has many purposes; I can only tell you that it can aid you in evolving your partners.”
“My Digimon partners?” I asked.
“That's right. Now then: your Tag.” A tag appeared around my neck. “I can't say what that's for, unfortunately. Next is your D-Terminal. It'll help you communicate with the Savior.” A black and silver mini computer appeared, and I quick stuffed it into my left pocket.
“Now my partners, right?” I was a bit antsy to meet them.
“Correct.” I looked behind me as there was a flash of light. “The nearest one is Pyocomon. Then it's Petit Meramon. Finally, there's Tanemon. I wish you luck.”
The next minute there was a blinding flash of light and I was standing in front of a mountain. “Where are we?”
“That's Infinity Mountain, Mark,” Pyocomon said.
“Why are we here?”
Petit Meramon answered this one. “We're here to meet Airdramon!”
“Who's Airdramon?”
“He's the Domain Lord of Infinity Mountain. He'll help us find the Savior!” Tanemon responded to that question.
“Well then, let's climb this hill and learn where we can find Nathaniel!”

Author's Notes: I told you that the chapters would be short… This one was especially, because of its obvious similarities to the previous chapter.
How Mark knows that Nathaniel is the Savior isn't going to be fully explained, but I'll put more about that in the Author's Note of the chapter that touches on that.
Atanasoff was the shadow computer of ENIAC which backed it up in the Wonderswan game called (I think…) Brave Tamer staring Ryo.
I try to use the Japanese names for the Digimon and their moves whenever I'm able. If I don't, I don't know them.

Next Chapter - Bring Down the Tyrant! Children Unite!: Nathaniel and his Digimon are caught on their trek through Dark Tyranomon's city. Will they be able to escape alive?
