AUTHOR'S NOTES: Hey lookie! Episode five at last ^_^ Heh! I'm determined not to give up on this story as personally I love the storyline :p and despite the fact that now it's been revealed that when Kouichi joins the others he gets two new hybrid forms I'm still keeping his forms as Duskmon and Velgmon in this story…mostly because I know squat on Lowemon and KaiserLeomon :p Oh well…

DIGIMON: The Pure Darkness

LAST EPISODE:

KEN: - While returning from a movie, Yolei, Kouji, August and I were attacked by a large crow like monster that seemed hell bent on trying to kill us and may very well have succeeded if Wormmon's spirit hadn't come to me and helped me spirit fuse to HueStingmon... I was able to defeat the crow and the darkness controlling it escaped into the night...

...but for Takuya...the darkness had only just begun...

Episode Five: - "The Light through the Darkness!"

Takuya sat still on the edge of his bed in complete darkness just staring down at the goggles he held in his right hand. These goggles were the very same he had worn during his adventures in the digital world with his friends... they always gave him happy memories of them all...

Junpei, Kouji, Izumi, Tomoki... those names kept running through his mind, as tears filled his eyes ...Bokomon, Neemon... He then just sighed as he shut his eyes tightly making the tears run down his cheeks as he held his goggles close to his chest...

...he knew he was going to die...but that didn't mean he was ready to except it.

As Takuya began a harsh and sudden coughing fit junpei opened the door of his room slightly, then gradually walked in, holding an open letter in his hand.

"Erm... we got a letter from Izumi-Chan this morning..." he told him softly. "... she's having a nice time in Italy..."

Takuya didn't respond, all he replied with was a tired sigh.

"I'll...just leave the letter here" Junpei said as he slowly placed the letter on the bed by Takuya. He then walked out of the door, shutting the door quietly behind him.

As soon as he had left takuya picked up the letter and glanced at it... it was written on light pink paper and had little prints of smiling faces all over the sides... then takuya caught the first sentence written in the letter...

I hope this letter finds you well....

With that Takuya just put the letter back down and went back to staring at the goggles in his hand.

"Do you think it's a good idea to visit him?" August asked Kouji as he began putting his coat on. "He didn't seem all to happy the other day when we went ov..."

"He's depressed, August..." Kouji replied, cutting her off from her sentence. "...he needs the support of his friends whether he likes it or not"

"I guess..." August murmured. Kouji smiled at his roommate then threw her coat to her, which she caught.

"Come on... we need to meet Ken, Kouichi and Rika halfway"

Outside the trees had started to shed their leaves and the air had gotten very cold, a sure sign that winter was now approaching. Kouji and August walked side by side in silence, both listening to the sounds in the air... at night it was almost as if you could hear for miles, you could hear sounds you normally wouldn't throughout the day.

Soon the two met up with Ken, Kouichi and Rika who were just stood under a tree waiting for them. Ken quickly waved and ran up to them as they approached while Kouichi and Rika stared each other down.

"Everyone ready to go?" Kouji asked his friends, Ken nodded to him in response, and then Kouji looked at his brother. "Is your little friend coming?"

"Who Kari?" Kouichi replied. "Well she had work to do so is going to meet us later at takuya and Junpei's dorm, I gave her directions..."

"Oh she's going to end up somewhere like the gym then..." Kouji joked as he turned to walk away with August and Ken. Kouichi just pulled a face at him before following them; Rika watched them leave with a vicious sneer on her face and only attempted to follow when they seemed at a safe distance away from her.

KNOCK! KNOCK!

Junpei heard the knock at the door and realized that his friends must have finally arrived so he got up off the sofa to let them in.

"Hey guys," he said as he stepped aside to let them come in.

"Hi Junpei..." replied Ken as he took his coat off and hung it up behind the door. "Hows takuya?"

"Not any better...he barley speaks to me now" junpei replied. "I just wish he would before..." Junpei broke off there, not able to finish the sentence and point out takuya's fate. Kouji gave Junpei a soft smile and put a reassuring hand on his back. The group's attention was then turned towards the direction of takuya's room as fierce coughing could be heard.

"Poor guy..." murmured August, frowning. "...it's not nice to suddenly realize your short life is going to be taken from you"

"Yeah..." Kouji replied, removing his hand from Junpei's back as he began to walk slowly towards takuya's room. The other's watched as kouji opened the door slowly and gradually walked in. "Takuya...?"

Takuya was now lying in bed. When he saw Kouji enter he just turned over so his back was facing him.

"Leave me alone"

"Takuya... I..."

"I said leave me alone Kouji" Takuya demanded again. Kouji just stood in silence for a few seconds before deciding to leave. Takuya waited until Kouji had closed his door before sighing hard and shutting his eyes...he really hated being so cold to his friends, but he really didn't feel like being around any of them at the moment.

Meanwhile Kari was making her way through the college grounds trying to follow Kouichi's directions to takuya and junpei's dorm that he had written on a piece of paper, but they weren't all too clear.

"...so the dorm building should be right...HERE!"

Kari looked in shock and surprised as she was faced with the college fountain in the courtyard.

"Well this is just great," she moaned to herself. "Why can't Kouichi write anything straight forward"

Suddenly she felt a presence breeze past her, she turned around...

...but no one was there.

The dark Shadow flew smoothly through the college, no passers by could see it as it was camouflaged against the dark of night. It then flew straight into a nearby lamppost, which began to spark suddenly then shorted out, causing all the power in the college to go out. Then the shadow shot out from the lamppost and flew towards a nearby building.

*****************************

"Hey junpei! Do you have any candles lying about?" Ken asked as he went through the cupboards trying to find some, but it was hard to see in total darkness.

"They should be in the draw next to the sink," Junpei yelled back. Ken eventually found them and went about lighting them all around the dorm apartment as the others just sat around the kitchen table, all except Rika who was stood on her own behind them.

"I wonder what caused the power to trip out?" wondered August. Nobody replied to her, mostly because nobody had an answer. As their attention was concentrated on the blackout the dark shadow silently went through the wall into the dorm. It stood still in the corner, just observing them from a distance.

As the group chatted about the power cut, Kouichi sensed something in the room with them, the same thing he had sensed around the man who had held up the cafe. Carefully he stood up and turned around, somehow spotting the shadow hiding in the corner... Kouichi narrowed his eyes as he stared into the shadows small red eyes, which were glaring back at him. Eventually the others noticed Kouichi but they couldn't see what he was staring at.

"Kouichi...?" Kouji began as he too stood up. Kouichi motioned for his brother to be silent then pointed to the corner of the room.

"The shadow is there...," he whispered. Kouji narrowed his eyes and followed his brothers gaze, eventually he saw the shadow move slightly. Kouji's eyes shot wide open as he swallowed hard.

"Everyone..." he began. "...we need to leave the dorm...now!"

"But why...?" began Ken, but Kouji just looked at him, his glare telling him not to ask questions right now. Ken nodded as kouji turned towards Junpei.

"Do you have a flashlight here at all?" he asked him.

"Yeah...." He then pointed to Takuya's room. "...we keep all our emergency stuff in takuya's room"

"Okay! I'll get the flashlight and Takuya and then we'll leave" Kouji told everyone as silently as he could, hoping the shadow couldn't tell what they were up to. With that Kouji headed for Takuya's room.

"Kouji! I told you to go away!" Takuya snapped as he sat up suddenly in his bed. Kouji had shocked him when he had come barging through the door. Takuya watched Kouji with a confused frown as he rummaged through Takuya's draws finally Takuya spoke up. "What are you looking for?"

"A Flashlight" came Kouji's reply. Takuya pointed to a small cupboard on a desk in front of his bed, Kouji quickly rummaged through it and gathered up the flashlight and a few other things he thought they might need. He then turned around and looked at takuya...

...his skin was a lot more paler these days, even through the darkness Kouji could tell how pale and thin Takuya was from the illness... Kouji shook his head a little to try and get the thoughts out of his head then walked further up to takuya's bed.

"We need to leave here," he told him.

"Why?" asked Takuya in annoyance. Kouji gave out a heavy sigh and glared at his friend.

"That Shadow thing is here..." he began. "...if we don't get out there's no knowing what he might do to us"

Takuya slowly threw back the covers of his bed and carefully stood up on the floor of his room, but it wasn't to follow Kouji out of the room like Kouji had thought, instead he folded his arms and stared him down.

"What point is there in me going?" he asked. "I'm already dieing, maybe that Shadow can do me a favour and kill me a bit more faster, it would sure as hell beat waiting for it!"

For the first time in a long time Kouji began to feel anger towards Takuya, not because he was being awkward but because he didn't seem to care about himself or his friends anymore... did they both mean nothing to him now?

Kouji felt warm tears slowly trickle down his cheeks as takuya's words hit him hard, then suddenly he let out a loud yell and grabbed the front of takuya's shirt pinning him up hard against the wall.

"Listen to me!" he snapped. "It doesn't matter whether your dieing or not, your still my friend, OUR friend, and we want to spend the time you have left with YOU, but if you decide to stay here, then so be it, but just think for a minute about the people you'll be leaving behind, think Takuya!!"

Silence passed between the two boys as both thought about the situation. Finally Takuya sighed and nodded telling Kouji that he was going with him. Kouji let go of his friend's shirt and turned towards the door, but as he did he heard the yells of the others.

"It's heading towards you, watch out!"

Sure enough the Shadow floated through the open door and stopped in front of Kouji and Takuya as the two boys tried to stay as still as they could but they knew that the shadow could see them... and that his intentions for them weren't good.

"Get back!!!" Kouji snapped at it as he tried flashing the light from the torch at it but it didn't seem to bother the dark shadow one bit so Kouji stopped.

"Anymore bright ideas?" Takuya asked his friend sarcastically. With that Ken and Rika burst into the room making the shadow float away from them slightly. Both looked at each other then nodded as they held up their Advanced D-Scanners.

"SPIRIT FUSION!" They yelled together.

"DARKLADY SAKUYAMON!"

"HUESTINGMON!"

DarkLady Sakuyamon acted quickly as she fired an attack at the Shadow.

"DARK SPIRIT STRIKE!!!"

Dark spirits flew from her hand but went right through the shadow and exploded against the cabinet behind him.

"Ack! There goes my CD collection" Takuya moaned. DarkLady Sakuyamon then fired another dark spirit strike attack but the same thing happened.

"And there goes your signed photo of that crap band you like so much" Kouji added onto Takuya's earlier comment.

"Hey! The Tackenoushi Doodlebugs are a great band," Takuya snapped back.

"Yeah if your five"

"Erm guys..." Began HueStingmon. "...maybe you should leave and get the others out of here while we keep this thing busy"

Takuya and Kouji sweat dropped as they realized that now wasn't the best time to argue over what bands takuya liked so the two quickly left the room. They met up with Junpei and Kouichi in the kitchen before they all ran out of the door into the corridor of the dorm building.

"Erm...okay...?" mumbled Kari as she stared down at the directions Kouichi had left her. "...I think this should be the right place..." With that she looked up at the large building in front of her, as she did HueStingmon came flying through on of the windows spraying glass everywhere as he landed hard onto the ground a few feet from where Kari was standing. She just looked at HueStingmon, then the window he had come out of. "Yep! Defiantly the right place!"

"Kari!"

Kari looked towards the front of the building where Kouichi and the others were leaving.

"What's going on?" she asked them as they joined her.

"The dark shadow thing was in the dorm..." replied Kouji. "...Rika and Ken are trying to distract it while we escaped"

"Yeah I can see that" Kari remarked as HueStingmon flew back up to the window.

Suddenly Takuya started to cough again and this time it sounded as if it wasn't going to stop. The group carried him over to a nearby tree and sat him under it.

"Here give him this" Kari said holding out a bottle of spring water that she had gotten from her bag. Kouji quickly took it off her and gave it to Takuya telling him to drink it. After he had taken a drink of it the coughed seemed to die down and then just closed his eyes resting his head against Kouji's shoulder. The others just watched him fall asleep with frowns on their faces. The suddenly a large explosion from Junpei and Takuya's dorm caught their eyes. They all looked up as they saw the shadow fly from the flames with DarkLady Sakuyamon and HueStingmon after it. All three began to fight viciously in the sky above them but it was obvious that the shadow was winning, any attacks fired at it seemed to go straight through it as this time it hadn't possessed the physical body of something. Kari just closed her eyes not bearing to watch anymore.

"I wish I could help them," she thought to herself. "But look at me... what can I possibly do...?"

As the other residents of the dorm building ran out into the night and gasped at the sight in the sky Kouichi stood up, a slight breeze blew past him as it did moving his black hair.

"I have to go and help them," he told the others; he looked back at his brother who was glaring at him. Kouji was about to open his mouth to say something when Kari let out a huge scream at the top of her voice and held her head in her hands quivering with fear making the others look at her.

"Kari what's wrong?" Kouichi asked.

"The darkness..." she screamed. "...GET IT AWAY FROM MEEEEEEE!!!"

As Kari's voice echoed through the sky a sudden beam of light seemed to break it's way through the clouds, despite it being night. The light shined upon Kari making her look up towards it. As she did she automatically got her D-3 from her bag, without even thinking and held it up as a pink beam shot down from the light and went into her D-3, transforming it into a Pink Advanced D-Scanner. Kari looked at the screen of her new digivice and saw Gatomon's image in it.

"Together we'll save your world Kari," she told her old human partner. Kari just lowered her head as a serious look appeared on her face.

"Lets do it Gatomon!" she snapped as she held up her left hand causing the pink beam of light to shoot from the Arial on her Advanced D-Scanner to it, circling around her hand as it did. Kari then scanned Gatomon's spirit with her Advanced D-scanner causing pink sparks as she did.

"SPIRIT FUSION!" she yelled. Then after she had finished scanning Gatomon's spirit the pink beam of light flew from her hand and circled around her causing her to be in cased inside a cocoon of pink light. Her appearance began to change as she fused with Gatomon's spirit and eventually the pink light vanished revealing a beautiful angel like digimon, almost like Angewomon, except she was dressed in pink and had Kari's hair.

"YUME ANGEWOMON!!!"

"Oh wow..." gaped Junpei as he looked up at YumeAngewomon in amazement. "...she spirit fused..."

"Alright Kari!" Kouichi shouted, throwing his fist up into the air with excitement. "Go get 'em!"

YumeAngewomon looked at Kouichi and smiled before opening her magnificent giant wings which sparkled as the moon game out from underneath the clouds. She then quickly took off from the ground and flew towards DarkLady Sakuyamon and HueStingmon. As she did Takuya opened his eyes slightly and saw YumeAngewomon fly high into the dark night.

"An...angel..." he muttered to himself before losing consciousness again.

"Well looks like we have a new player on our side" DarkLady Sakuyamon told HueStingmon as she watched YumeAngewomon fly towards them. Both of the digimon greeted her as she flew up beside them then all three glared at the shadow floating in front of them.

"Got any ideas?" HueStingmon asked YumeAngewomon, she just nodded to indicate that she did have one. Without further hesitation she got out a bow and fired several pink arrows above her causing the sky to light up. The shadow seemed to start backing off and tried to shield itself from the light above him, while his attention was diverted from them YumeAngewomon signalled for the others to attack.

"Well...okay..." said HueStingmon, not sounding too sure if YumeAngemon's idea would work, but he trusted Kari's judgement so held up his shield getting ready for the final attack.

"ATARASHII YASASHISA!!!!" he screamed as a huge blast of green energy shot from the shield.

"DARKNESS WIND!!!" DarkLady Sakuyamon yelled afterwards as dark wind flew from her right hand.

"HOLY LIGHT!!!" YumeAngewomon screamed as a beam of pink light came from her right hand. All three attacks joined together to make one huge attack, which hit the shadow at a very large force, making it yell out loud as it knocked it back. After the attack had subsided the shadow stared at the three digimon before him and narrowed his eyes.

"I'll be back," it murmured before flying off into the night. HueStingmon was about to go after it when he felt a hand on his arm telling him to hold back. HueStingmon looked around to see that YumeAngemon was the one that had hold of him.

"We should go after that thing," he snapped but YumeAngemon just shook her head.

"It would do no good," she told him. "We need to come up with a strategy to defeat it once and for all, our attacks only frightened it off for now, we need to think of a way to destroy him forever!"

HueStingmon bowed his head and reluctantly agreed to YumeAngemon. As he did she let go of his arm and flew back to the ground with DarkLady Sakuyamon, HueStingmon watched them leave then eventually followed them.

"Renamon...we have a question..." Rika asked her digimon inside her Advanced D-Scanner the next morning as she, Ken and Kari were stood under a tree by the college courtyard. "...how come you guys can only come to us in spirit form?"

"It's because of that shadow, the pure darkness..." Renamon replied. "...it's dark energy is so strong it made us not able to take Physical form in the real world"

"...but we were still able to come to you in a spirit form" added on Gatomon from Kari's digivice. "...your will to have us here helped our spirits break through to this world"

"Well I'm glad you all could help us" Kari said. "Who knows where we'd be now without you guys"

"Your our partners..." replied Wormmon. "...we'll always be here to help"

"Thankyou Wormmon..." Ken told his digimon. With that the group fell silent as all three looked up at the grey autumn sky above them, wondering where the next few weeks might take them...

...and if they could survive through them.

RIKA : - With the darkness still on the loose within the college campus, a lot of college work and Takuya being suddenly hospitalised, Kouji's patients are tested to the limits but when another member of the group starts showing signs of the virus can Kouji keep his cool? Meanwhile the Darkness begins to stalk Kouichi and gives him an offer, kill his brother and his friends and receive the greatest power he has ever known.
