Izzy and Yolei used to be a couple, but now they've broken up. The digidestined, being their best friends, respect their decision. But what happens when Izzy starts going out with another girl?? Is it really the end for Izzy and Yolei?

Chapter 1
Second Thoughts

(*)How could I have let him go,(*) thought Yolei miserably, closing her locker. She turned around, and saw Izzy with his arm around another girl, Melissa.
She saw Izzy glance at her. Yolei swallowed, smiled, and waved. Izzy waved back.
(*)I can't do this,(*) Yolei thought, leaning against her locker. (*)This is too hard...(*)
"Hey, Yolei!" said Kari cheerfully but quieted down when she saw the sad look on her friend's face.
"Yolei, if you loved him so much, why'd you let him go?" said Kari knowingly.
"Huh?!" Yolei jumped out of her thoughts. "Oh, you must be joking. Izzy was just one of my you know, little crushes...I'm just glad he's happy."
"Yolei, I know you. Izzy wasn't just one of your temporary crushes. He was your-" began Kari.
"Oh Kari. I appreciate it, but it's not necessary. I'll get over him. I promise," Yolei put on a fake smile and walked away.
(*)Oh Yolei. Why are you doing this to yourself?(*) thought Kari.

Izzy was in his most favorite class, advanced calculus, but even his most favorite class couldn't keep his attention. Although he tried, it didn't work, and eventually, his thoughts flew to a certain girl....
(*)I don't get it,(*) he thought. (*)We were going along so great when she just broke up with me. I-I want her back. But what about Melissa? I'm just so confused...but I do know one thing...I-I-I I think
I still like Yolei. And I want her back....(*)
Melissa noticed her boyfriend drifting off. (*)She's thinking about her again. I know that dreamy look on his face. He still likes her, doesn't he? Well I'm going to do something about it,(*) she thought, grinning.
"And now," said the teacher. "Pop quiz!!"
(*)I used to like pop quizes,(*) thought Izzy, coming back to reality. (*)I don't even remember the material. Will this day ever end?!!(*)

Fortunately for Izzy the day did end. (*)Thank god,(*) he thought. (*)I need to sort out my feelings really badly.(*)
"Hey Izzy!" a voice called out. Izzy turned around.
"Oh hi TK," replied Izzy. He sighed. (*)I still don't get it. We broke up almost a month ago. Why am I getting second thoughts NOW?(*)
TK took note of the look on his friend's face. "You're thinking about her again, aren't you?" he said knowingly.
Izzy sighed. "TK, you're two years younger than me. How do you know these things?"
TK grinned. "I may be younger than you, but I've known you for a pretty long time now, Izzy. So you ARE thinking about her?"
Izzy sighed again. "I can't help it. I can't help thinking about her, and I can't help wondering WHY on earth she broke up with me in the first place."
"Izzy, I'll get straight to the point. Do you like Yolei or Melissa?" TK said.
"That's where I need some help," said Izzy, looking hopefully at TK.
"I can't tell you that," said TK. "Only you know the answer to that, Izzy. But decide quickly. And if you need any help, you know where I am," he winked at him, and walked the opposite way.
"Thanks, TK," said Izzy, still unsure.

TK was walking down the sidewalk when he saw Kari sitting on a bench near the bus stop.
"Well?" she asked him.
TK shrugged. "Not really sure. What about you?"
Kari sighed sadly. "Nope. It's going to take more than I thought to get those two back together."
"Well, maybe we should just..you know..let them work it out by themselves," suggested TK.
"TK, you know those two. Izzy's got Melissa and Yolei won't do a thing because she doesn't want to wreck Izzy's happiness," said Kari.
"I know, Kari," said TK, sitting next to her and holding her hand, "but you know, it's their relationship, and we can't force them to get back together."
"I know," Kari sighed again, laying her head on TK's shoulder. "But they sure could use the help."
"You know, you're right," said TK. "And besides, a little help never hurt anyone, right?"
"Yeah!" said Kari, sitting up straight. "So any ideas?"
"None. You?"
"Clueless." Kari lay her head back on TK's shoulder.
"I guess it's back to the old drawing board," TK sighed.
"Mm-hmm."

That night.....

At Yolei's house..

Yolei was lying on her bed, doing some hard thinking. (*)OK, I'll admit it. I made the biggest mistake of my life breaking up with him. And now that I want him back, he's already found a girlfriend.(*) She sighed, taking off her glasses and turning off the light. (*)Maybe I'll find more peace in my sleep,(*) she thought, drifting off.

At Izzy's house..

Izzy was lying on his bed, doing some hard thinking of his own. (*)OK, I confess. I do have some feelings left for Yolei. But then I have some for Melissa..don't I? But I still like..no..love..oh my head hurts. Melissa..Yolei...Melissa..Yolei....Yolei...(*) and at that point, he fell asleep.

The next day.....

It was a Saturday, and the morning was beautiful. Izzy woke up, and he still had no idea what to do. He dressed himself and had some breakfast.
(*)I need some air,(*) he thought, going outside.

At the Kamiyas'....
Well, maybe TK and Kari did get a few ideas. They had called all of the digidestined except for Izzy and Yolei of course for a little meeting at Tai and Kari's house.
"Well, I know one thing. You two are just as nosy as Tai and Matt," Mimi told the younger digidestined.
"Hey!" said Tai and Matt in unison.
"I have to agree," Joe said. "They still like each other, after all."
"How do you know that?" said Cody. "For sure, I mean."
"Haven't you seen the looks they give each other?" said Joe. "That's a sure sign."
"This is great!" said Davis. "I've always wanted to butt into Yolei's love life."
"Maybe calling him was a mistake," Sora told TK and Kari.
"Maybe?" said Kari.
"OK calling him period was a mistake," Sora corrected herself.
"Davis, you have to promise not to tell anyone about this, especially Yolei and Izzy. Cos if you do, I will make sure you never see Kari again," said TK.
"How are you going to do that?" said Davis smugly.
"I'll help him," said Tai, standing up.
"So will I," Matt stood up as well.
"OK OK, I won't tell anyone," said Davis. "What exactly are we doing here anyway?"
"We're trying to figure out a plan to get Izzy and Yolei back together!!" yelled Joe. "Do you guys have anything in mind?"
Everyone shook their heads.
"This is going to be harder than we thought," said Kari.
"Ya think?" TK said dryly.

(*)The park's nice and quiet,(*) thought Yolei, walking down the sidewalk. (*)Exactly what I need right now.(*)
She walked a little more until she saw...him. Izzy.
(*)Great just great,(*) thought Yolei, panicking. She started to walk towards him but the next thing she saw broke her heart completely.
Melissa snuck up behind Izzy and took him by surprise. And with that, Izzy hugged her and their lips touched lightly and then, went deeper.
Yolei froze. Before Izzy or anyone could see her, she ran away quietly, going to her secret spot. Her secret spot wasn't much. It was inside a forest called Greenleaf Forest, where there were several different trees. But Yolei had grown to love a large twelve foot pine tree over by the small lake. She came to this spot everytime she was feeling down or wanted to be left alone. Barely anyone knew about her spot except for her best friends which were Sora, Mimi and Kari. They would come here together sometimes, but it was mostly Yolei. It was her secret spot, after all.
(*)I'm so stupid,(*) she thought, shaking her head, tears flying out. (*)It's just typical. Boyfriend and girlfriend. Breakup. Get over the other person, go out with another person, and if lucky stay friends.(*) she sighed. (*)This is normal. He's supposed to kiss other people. I guess I just thought...he felt the same way. Boy I sure am stupid. I should just forget about it. I'll just get over him. Just like I got over Michael and all those stupid crushes. It's like I told Kari. I'll get over him. I promise...(*) and Yolei drifted off to sleep, letting her depression fall into her sleep. But before she did, she still denied the truth. (*)OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD I DON'T LIKE HIM!!(*)

Back at the Kamiyas...
Kari was leaning against her bedroom wall, trying to get some peace, but you know how hard that is with the rest of the digidestined next door. Suddenly, a picture flashed in her head. The same thing happened to Sora and Mimi who were in the room with her.
"Did you guys--" she began.
"Yeah," Sora and Mimi nodded.
"Let's go," said Kari.

In the other room where the boys had no idea what on earth was going on....
Tai, Matt, and Davis were running around like crazy. Cody and Joe had gigantic sweatdrops and TK was struggling to not grab the three lunatic boys and strangle them to death.
"What exactly is going on?" said Joe, who had just walked in.
"Well, Davis was teasing Tai and Matt about Sora and Mimi, so Tai and Matt chased them. Now that's what's going on," explained Cody.
"They're weird," said Joe.
(*)Idiots,(*) thought TK. (*)All Tai, Matt and Davis ever think about is girls, girls and MORE girls! Don't they see that Izzy and Yolei need all the help they can get?!(*)

Back at the park with Izzy...

Izzy quickly pulled out of the kiss. (*)I thought I saw Yolei..(*) he thought.
"What's wrong?" said Melissa.
"Nothing," said Izzy. "Everything's just fine." But deep inside his heart argued with his mouth.
(*)Everything's NOT fine everything's anything BUT fine!!(*)
"You're thinking about Yolei again," said Melissa knowingly.
"WHY DOES EVERYONE SAY THAT?!!!" bellowed Izzy.
Melissa's eyes widened.
"Oh crap I'm sorry I just..." Izzy trailed off.
"It's ok," said Melissa understandingly. "I know what you're going through, Izzy. But it's no use for me to be with you if you have feelings for someone else."
"I'm sorry but I really--"
"I know, I know, you need to sort your feelings out. Don't worry, take as much time as you want," Melissa smiled. And with that, she gave Izzy a quick kiss on the cheek and walked off.
(*)I only wish it were that simple,(*) Izzy thought, confused.
*************
"Hurry you guys!! This way!" yelled Kari, running to the forest.
Sora and Mimi were right behind her. As they entered the forest, they saw Yolei sleeping peacefully against her tree. The three smiled.
(*)That's the first time in days I've seen Yolei so relaxed,(*) thought Sora.
(*)Well, she's safe,(*) Mimi thought.
(*)Oh Yolei,(*) thought Kari sadly. (*)Why are you doing this to yourself??(*)

Melissa walked around the park endlessly. (*)I just don't know what to do about Izzy. I can tell that he still has feelings for Yolei. But then what about me? Oh quit thinking about yourself! Think about Izzy. But in the end...it's really all up to Izzy to decide what his feelings are. Will he keep his true feelings buried inside of him? Or will he bring them out? Ohh..I just hope he does the right thing...(*)

That night.....

(*)Well...I've decided,(*) Izzy thought, lying down on his bed. (*)Yolei and I are just friends. We used to be more than that, but now we aren't and that's that. We're just friends. Good friends, but not a couple. Melissa's my girlfriend now.(*) And with that decision made, he fell asleep peacefully.

(*)Sora Kari and Mimi are on to me,(*) thought Yolei, trying to fall asleep. (*)They know. Oh what's the use? They're your best friends, Yolei. They know you. But I don't even know me...(*) She turned off her light and muttered these last words before she fell asleep: "I'd wait forever for you, Izzy Izumi."

I'll keep waiting til that day when

At school on Monday.....

The teacher was handing out the tests they had had last week. He came to a stop at Izzy's desk. "A D minus, Mr Izumi. The third one you've had in a row. If this keeps up, I'll have to have a conference with your parents, ok?" he said.
"Yessir," Izzy nodded.
(*)Oh boy..(*) Melissa thought.

At Yolei's class....

The teacher was also handing out a test. She came to a stop at Yolei's desk. "Miss Inoue...another D...this time a minus. That's the fifth one. Are you ok, Yolei?" she asked.
"Yes, I'm fine," said Yolei, taking the paper and stuffing it into her bag.
"Well, okay, but well, you usually do well in biology," her teacher shrugged and walked back to her desk and droned on and on about biology.
(*)Another D minus,(*) thought Yolei. (*)First a C, then a C minus, on and on down until a D minus. Mom and Dad are gonna FLIP!!(*)

"Some killer tests they're having, huh?" said Sora, with a paper in her hand. "But a B isn't bad."
"I got an A," said Kari.
"B minus for me," said Mimi, wrinkling her nose. "What about you, Yolei? Yolei? Yolei?!!"
"Huh?" Yolei was brought back to the real world. "Oh um, a D minus."
"A D MINUS?!!?" shouted Sora, Kari and Mimi.
"Yeah, a D minus," said Yolei tonelessly.
"Yolei, are you feeling okay? You usually get straight A's," said Mimi.
"Yeah, I'm just fine," said Yolei, getting tired of answering the same question over and over again.
"You're thinking about him again.." said Kari.
"OK, maybe a little, but it's nothing to worry about! I'll be fine!! I mean, Izzy's all happy with his perfect little girlfriend going around the park and kissing her and probably getting straight A's and having fun with his new laptop and I'm just a stupid girl--" Yolei was on a roll.
"OK, OK, Yolei," said Sora.
"I'm fine," Yolei repeated calmly.
"We-ell, if you say so," shrugged Mimi.

"Hi Melissa!" said Izzy cheerfully.
"Well you look pretty cheerful for a guy that just got a D minus," said Melissa.
"I've figured everything out," contiued Izzy. "I need to break up with you."
"OK," said Melissa. "You're going with Yolei?"
"No. I'm going to be a girlfriendless guy like practically all the guys in high school," said Izzy.
"Ohh!!" Melissa slapped her forehead. "OK, if that's what you want, then that's cool."
"Thanks, Melissa. Most girls would've freaked out," said Izzy.
"Well, I'm not all girls," Melissa said, smiling. (*)O boy does this guy need help!!(*)

After school....

Melissa walked up to Sora, Mimi, and Kari. "Um, can I talk to you three?"
The three girls looked at each other.
"OK," said Sora. "What's up?"
"OK, Izzy broke up with me cos he wanted to be some girlfriendless dude. But I know it's more than that. He likes Yolei. And I've known Izzy for awhile, his girlfriend or not, and he deserves better than being a girlfriendless guy. So I was thinking would you guys help me set Yolei and Izzy up?" said Melissa, looking at the trio hopefully.
"Melissa, if we had a plan to set the two up, they'd be together by now," said Mimi as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"I know," said Melissa, grinning slyly. "That's why I came prepared...."
