Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Drusilla’s Soul ❯ Chapter 16 ( Chapter 16 )
Drusilla slowly opened her eyes, she was lying in a hospital bed. She scanned around the room that the wall was painted blue and the floor tiles were gray. The sunlight shone dimly through the closed curtains of the window. She glanced at the heart rate monitor which was low, she had an IV in her vein. And she was dressed in a white hospital gown.
‘Why am I in a hospital? I’m a vampire. Vampires don’t go to the hospital.’ thought Drusilla.
She felt something tight around her torso, the surgeons must have operated on her ribs. She had broken ribs; she felt a small pain in her ribs as she straightened up in her hospital bed. She remembered she fought LadyDevimon at the parking garage last night when the angel woman and two kids came to rescue her.
A nurse came into the room and greeted Drusilla with a warm smile.
“Good morning, ma’am. How do you feel?” asked the nurse.
“Um, I’m fine, but… Where am I?” asked Drusilla.
“You’re in St. Luke’s International Hospital. It seems you have broken ribs so the doctors started to operate on you for surgery. Were you attacked last night?” asked the nurse.
“Uh, yeah. It was a girl I fought. Very powerful and evil. And I think she was called LadyDevimon.” said Drusilla.
“Really?” the nurse was flabbergasted.
“Yeah, I remember I fought her and she launched a full attack on me and threatened to kill me,” said Drusilla, looking down and gripping her sheet.
“Oh, my.” said the nurse, awestruck.
“The last thing I remember, I was about to get killed, then suddenly, something blasted behind her, it was an angel,” said Drusilla.
“An angel?”
“Yes, well, I think she was my Guardian Angel. And she pulverized her!” said Drusilla.
“Wow!” The nurse was astonished.
“Just when two kids came to rescue me before I lost consciousness,” said Drusilla.
“Wow, you were lucky,” said the nurse.
“Yeah, uh, how long have I been out?” she asked.
“You’ve been in a coma for 2 weeks.” said the nurse.
“T-two weeks?!” she freaked out a bit, she wouldn’t have taken this long. She was definitely on a mission trip to investigate in Japan, but she needed to return to America before next month.
“Is something the matter?” asked the nurse.
“Uh, no, it’s nothing. You see, I’m on a mission,” Drusilla said. “I just went to investigate further where those creatures were coming from. Did it happen occasionally?”
“It was 3 years ago they attacked the city.” answered the nurse.
“I see,” said Drusilla.
“Well, it’s pretty dark in this room. Would you like to open the curtain?” she asked sweetly.
“No, leave it closed. I just need to get some plenty of rest, that’s all,” said Drusilla.
“Okay, the doctor will be here in a few minutes. Is there anything I can do for you?” she asked.
“No, none for me, thanks,” said Drusilla.
“Okay, I’m leaving now.” The nurse went out of the room and Drusilla laid her back and rested. She was almost healed after the battle with LadyDevimon.
‘I wonder how Leon, Britney, and David are doing? I won't return home until next month.’ thought Drusilla.
Meanwhile down the hospital halls a doctor and his assistant walked down to the main corridor where Drusilla’s room was located.
"Alright, what do we have here?" The doctor took his briefcase and opened it before entering her room. “Ms. Drusilla Keeble, age 20 years old, has incised wounds on her chest, right cheek, both thighs, back, right arm, left side of upper region, broken wrists, and 4 broken ribs, plus a small case of cerebral hemorrhage." The doctor looked at his assistant with a surprised expression.
"I know she was lucky that she was brought here in time, or else she would have certainly been dead by now. Also please notice Dr. Cilovic, she had lost half a gallon of blood during her transport to our facilities." The assistant opened the door to Drusilla's room for the doctor to come in.
"Half a gallon? What was she attacked by, a pack of wolves?" The doctor said sarcastically.
He shrugged his shoulders. "We have no clue of what could have attacked her, the slash marks were too long in size compared to any animal we know of. It looked more like scratch marks, but she has willingly refused to talk about it, so I wish you better luck."
"Alright, thank you. Wait for me outside while I examine her current condition." The Doctor entered the room and looked around; he noticed the room was darkened and the curtains were closed. As the doctor came closer his figure was revealed to Drusilla who gazed towards the doctor and slightly parted her lips.
"Good morning, Ms. Keeble." The doctor greeted her with a warm smile.
“Good morning, Doctor,” said Drusilla.
"I’m Dr. Higa, and I came to examine you, our results came as uncertain and needed a further diagnosis,” he said.
“Um, okay… What do the results say?” asked Drusilla.
“It says here that while you have a lot of injuries, it seems they all have one point in common. The slashes you have, seemingly all over you. That was the reason you lost so much blood. They were deep, and numerous.” said Dr. Higa.
Drusilla gave a slight start. This Doctor Higa was nobody’s fool. Did he know? No, not everything, she was sure of that. Except it would not be long before he did know.
Dr. Higa had watched her. She had covered herself well, giving that slight start. Yet it looked as though whatever she’d tried was not enough. She knew who or what had attacked her. Would she admit it?
“I…” Drusilla trailed off. “I started a one on one battle with LadyDevimon. She was so powerful and evil. I managed to fight this demon, yet she flashed a flock of bats at me, slicing my skin off.”
The doctor nodded, “And what happened?” He was writing a summary note about her conditions.
“I swiped them off and charged at her, punching and kicking her. And then she threw me into a wall with a powerful force. I tried not to lose consciousness as her gigantic hand turned into a spear and she was about to kill me. And all of a sudden, she was attacked by something behind her. I glanced up and realized it was a beautiful angel and she annihilated her. And the two kids came to save me before I lost consciousness.” said Drusilla.
Dr. Higa raised his eyebrows in surprise. “I see. Well, you’re lucky to be alive.”
"You could say my luck is different," Drusilla said.
The doctor held her with a bemused eye for a moment, her comment clearly throwing him, before a light chuckle rumbled from his chest. Drusilla followed suit hoping to play to the fact that this doctor had found her comment to be a joke of some sort.
"I have just random good luck at times," Drusilla stated.
“Tell me, do you have a family?” he asked.
Drusilla swallowed thickly. “I… I don’t have a family. They’re dead.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Dr. Higa solemnly.
“Can I tell you something? I just want to get these things off my chest,” she said.
“Sure, go ahead,” said Dr. Higa.
Drusilla started to tell Dr. Higa how her family was brutally murdered by Angelus, which drove her to the edge of her sanity.
“When I was a young Catholic woman, I used to live with my family in the East End of London. My mother, my uncle, and my two sisters when they were alive.
I was cursed to have a gift of sights, my mother told me my seeing things were affront of the Lord. I entered the church and went to the confessional booth where I didn’t realize Father Donovan was killed and this man had impersonated him on the confessional screen.” Drusilla swallowed thickly. “He told me I was a ‘Spawn of Satan’ and he told me to become evil. But I didn’t want to become evil. I wanted to be pure.”
“Was this man stalking you?” asked Dr. Higa, aghast.
“Yes,” Drusilla said. “He stalked me every night. The next thing I knew, I walked my way home from church. I opened the door seeing my family was tied up and gagged in each chair and crying out for me. And suddenly I felt someone behind me and grabbed me, and-- Angelus tied me up and gagged. He… he cupped under my chin and smiled wickedly at me, he forced me to watch.” said Drusilla, the tears in her eyes, the trembling of hands shook like an autumn leaf caught in mid-flight, and her eyes welled with pools of sorrow that cascaded softly down her ivory cheeks.
Dr. Higa was horrified to hear her painful story, he wanted to stop, but he wanted to know what happened next.
“He killed my family before my very eyes, and they were screaming in agony, he raped my mother! I couldn’t watch anymore! I was so defenseless and helpless, I couldn’t do anything!” Drusilla sobbing uncontrollably, tears flowing in her shut eyes.
“I could have saved them! I could have saved them, but they’re already dead! And he walked towards me and started to untie and tried to bite me… but I kicked him in the groin as hard as I could when I started to run away from him. So far, far away to find a safe place.” Drusilla said in a quiet voice as she calmed down a bit and wiped her tears.
“Then I found a convent, I knocked on the door and cried for help. Mother Theresa answered the door and she let me in. I was in a safe place. She offered me food and drink, and they gave me clothes to wear because my dress was torn and covered in blood.” said Drusilla.
“And what happened next, Drusilla?” asked Dr. Higa.
“Angelus was still coming after me and he thrashed the door down, he started to kill all the nuns, that screaming of agonizing again, the sound of the awful bone-cracking-- breaking their necks, blood splattered everywhere on the walls. I was petrified to do anything! There was nothing I could do. I was tortured into insanity. My mind went into delirium. Angelus and this woman, Darla, making out on the floor before he turned me.” said Drusilla, weary in her voice.
“He turned you? What did he do to you?” he asked.
“He turned me into a demon. Angelus was my daddy and my Grandmother, Darla,” Drusilla said.
"He violated my soul, casting it out from the eyes of the Lord. He filled me with demonic sin, drove me to speak in riddles like a spawn of Beelzebub. I was lost. Lost to his deceptive face. Abandoned by God. He told me I was his now, he was my daddy and his companion Darla was my grandmother."
“My God,” said Dr. Higa, trembling aghast.
“It was,” Drusilla said. “I found myself a Knight to keep me warm, a sweet prince. My William— no my Spike. He was a simple poet but I turned him into a valiant Knight and he kept his dark princess safe.
That night, Angelus gave me a birthday gift, she was a gypsy that tied up and gagged in fear on her face. I was satisfied with hunger and devoured this girl until I sucked her dry as Angelus watched with amusement.
The following night I found a young child, as I was feasting, the blood on my face, I had a vision. Something was coming. So I ran. That was when the curse hit me, and then pain, so much pain. The light was back, the dark princess was bathed in it. The Lord could see me again. The devil child Angelus made was delivered back to her soul. The pain. The remorse, it burned me like a cross.
I had a huge fight with Angelus and Spike and fled from them. I entered the cemetery to pray for my deceased family and I decided to avenge my family’s death.
I returned to China and aided with a slayer to confront Angelus and Spike. Xia used a bomb causing a temple collapse, Angelus and Spike were annihilated and we managed to escape the temple.
I took those people to Japan and the villagers thanked me and Xia thanked me for saving her life.
I’ll never forget everyone’s smiles. And now, I’m here. I saved the helpless people.” said Drusilla, finally finishing her story.
“My word, that was a great story. If you’re a vampire, you have a soul?” asked Dr. Higa.
Drusilla nodded, “Yes, I lost my soul when I turned into a vampire. And now I got my soul back. I wanted to thank this gypsy man for giving me a soul.” She clasped her hands to her chest.
"Wow, that was really remarkable. I have to say, you've been through a great ordeal and a traumatic experience you may be suffering from PTSD. So I'm going to prescribe you two things: the first is Zoloft and Opana, and the second is to refer you to my colleague Dr. X who specializes in Traumatic Experiences and how to handle effects of PTSD." Said Dr. Higa.
Dr. Higa wrote a note with the prescription of the medications and handed it to Drusilla.
"Will Dr. X be able to help me through this?" Asked Drusilla.
"Of course he will be able to, he is a genuine man and he will help you to focus on other things that won't trigger your PTSD." Dr. Higa said.
“Oh, I can’t wait to meet him.” Drusilla smiled. “When will I get out of the hospital?”
“You will be out tomorrow until your injuries recover. You need to take Opana once a day, and your pain will be gone,” said Dr. Higa.
Drusilla smiled, “Thank you, Dr. Higa.”
“My pleasure. Well, I must be going. And I wish you the best of luck. Goodbye, Drusilla.” said Dr. Higa leaving Drusilla’s room.
“Goodbye, doctor.” Drusilla waved as she watched him leave this room and closed the door behind. Drusilla laid her head back onto the pillow and sighed with her eyes closed.
Meanwhile, a young boy with a bucket hat entered the hospital as he was carrying a bouquet of lilies. He wanted to see this woman how she was doing. He walked to the receptionist, a woman appeared in her late 20’s typing on a computer then she caught her attention as the boy approached her.
“Hi.” smiled TK.
“Hello, how can I help you?” she smiled.
“Um, I’m here to see this lady," said TK.
The receptionist asked, " You mean Drusilla?"
TK said, "Yes, the woman I found at the parking garage who was badly injured. Do you know what room she's in?"
“Let me see…” the receptionist searched the pages of the book to find a patient’s name, then she found it.
“Here it is. Drusilla Keeble. She’s on the left, room 112." said the receptionist.
“Thank you," said TK as he hurried to her room to see her. As soon as he got to her room, TK knocked on the door.
“Come in.” A woman’s voice was heard from the door, and TK opened the door as slowly walked in.
“Hi.” he greeted this woman in the hospital bed.
“Oh, hello,” said Drusilla.
“My name is TK Takaishi. I came to visit you to see how you are doing. And I have these flowers for you.” said TK, he showed her a bouquet of lilies.
“Oh, I love lilies. They’re my favorite flowers. Thank you.” she said. “My name is Drusilla.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Drusilla. I’m going to put these in a vase, is that okay?” asked TK.
Drusilla nodded and TK unwrapped it and put the bouquet of lilies in the vase and straightened them perfectly.
“This is beautiful,” said Drusilla.
“It sure is. So…” TK sat down on the chair and looked at Drusilla with a slight frown on his face.
“Why did you say you want to save helpless people? It’s not my 'wanting' to save those who are helpless," TK said. "It's simply the idea to me, that no one is 'helpless' and all should be entitled to whatever help is available to them."
Drusilla seemed unconvinced. Her condition was debatable and the injuries inflicted upon her along with the future diagnosis she'd already been given immediately aroused her distrust.
“I… I think the helpless individuals just need to be shown that they’re not alone and that they can depend on somebody," said Drusilla.
"I can see the logic in that thought, but shouldn't they try not relying too much on others so they can handle it?" TK responded.
“Well, I understand how you could think this way, but the concept isn't to show weakness by relying on others but to help others understand everybody who needs assistance can ask for help," Drusilla said.
“I can understand that. You saved these people from the other night, but why did you confront LadyDevimon? That was impossible for you to fight against her without a Digimon partner and a Digivice.” said TK.
"LadyDevimon is vampiric as well like creatures that I was hunting anyway so it was just a spore of the moment thing, but she also stirred some animosity for the actions she had taken," Drusilla said.
“Are you a Digidestined?” TK asked.
“No, I’m not,” said Drusilla
TK sighed, “Well, you can’t fight Digimon like that because you’re human.”
“So are you, what exactly is a Digidestined?” asked Drusilla.
"Seven years ago, me and my brother, and a group of kids saw these strange monsters fighting late at night," he said. "We all forgot about it afterward. Some sort of memory repression, I think. But that's what happened. Four years on, we all went to the same summer camp. There were strange weather conditions all over the world and at our summer camp, it started snowing. We got separated and sheltered in a cabin. After the snowstorm, seven strange devices fell from the sky. Digivices. We were then sucked into another world; the Digital World. It's entirely populated by Digimon, Digital Monsters. We each got our own special one, a Digital Companion. We'd been summoned because the balance of darkness and light was thrown. We managed to defeat the evil and went home. But this year, the balance went out again. A group of new Digidestined, Kari-- were called. We’ve recently defeated that enemy but…”
TK bit his lower lip and he said. “We’re still Digidestined. Our former leader, Tai, has a crest of Courage. My brother, Matt, has a crest of Friendship. Sora has a crest of Love, Izzy has a crest of Knowledge, Mimi has a crest of Sincerity, Joe has a crest Reliability, mine is a crest of Hope, and lastly Kari has a crest of Light.”
“So you’re all Chosen Ones,” said Drusilla.
“Exactly.” TK nodded.
“I’ve never heard of anything like this. That’s what makes you a hero, TK.” smiled Drusilla.
TK chuckled “Well, I try to do what I can so others don't have to go through this." TK said.
"So you must have it run through your blood, TK?" Drusilla asked with a smile.
"Definitely a possibility," TK said as he snickered.
TK glanced at his watch, he needed to get home that he was having a conversation with Drusilla.
“Uh, I have to go. It was nice talking to you, Drusilla.” TK sat up from the chair before going to the door. “Oh, before I go, I have a basketball tournament tomorrow night.”
“Really? Well, good luck with your tournament, TK.” smiled Drusilla.
“Thanks. Get well soon.” TK left her hospital room as she watched him leave with the sound of an open and closed door.
TK walked down the corridor hall as he stopped by and he heard them talking about it, he decided to stay low and listen to their conversation.
“Her family was brutally murdered? That’s awful.” said the Nurse, feeling sympathetic and aghast.
“Yes, well, she has suffered from psychological trauma. I’ve referred her to Dr. X who’s dealt with similar cases in the past. For example, Drusilla was tortured to insanity by Angelus and made his masterpiece. I have no idea what Angelus was capable of, but based on what we see from Drusilla's different tests, it seems Angelus was capable of anything. The trauma inflicted appears to be both emotional and mental. Physical trauma is not indicated although to examine Drusilla for that may be to all our advantages." said Dr. Higa.
‘Angelus?’ TK thought.
“So Drusilla had the first of the ‘visions’? I knew she had them… but he then led to her craziness? Why did Angelus want to drive her mad?” asked Nurse Ami.
“I don’t know. Her mental state was compromised before meeting Angelus as her ‘visions’ conflicted with her Catholic faith. Then Angelus did his best to drive her totally mad before turning her. Strange even for vampires as a sire is responsible for their get and one would think the amusement of have a daft visionary on one’s hand would grow old rather quickly.” said Dr. Higa.
TK was dumbstruck that he didn’t realize her family was killed and Angelus made her insane before turning into a vampire. He quietly left and quickly exited the hospital.
TK was walking down the street, the sound of cars on the road. He had no idea he was talking to a lady in the hospital. Her family was killed and Angelus drove her mad before turning into a vampire.
‘Drusilla’s a vampire?! I can’t believe it! If Angelus drove her mad, so why would he do such a thing?’ thought TK.
TK had to get home and he rested. However, TK couldn’t stop thinking about Drusilla. He felt sorry for her, he wanted to make Angelus pay for what he did to her.
