Explaining The Unexplained
by Ally/Kodocha_Luver/Anime_Luver

It was back in the third grade when I met Yagami Hikari for the first time. I'm a bit ashamed to say that it wasn't exactally the ideal way to meet such an amazing person, but life seems to enjoy having people meet in very embarrassing circumstances..
It was a typical day afterschool for me; I was playing soccer with a big group of my friends, having a grand old time, as always. It was always a lot more fun for us when Hikari-chan's older brother, Yagami Taichi, played with us, but this particular day he and Takenouchi Sora were both stuck with cleaning duty.
I'd first like to say, that I wasn't nearly as good at soccer then as I am now. This particular game my team of friends was a few points behind my other friend's team. We were all getting very competitive and my team mates and I all called a time out to discuss battle tactics.
"Whatever happens, you can't let them score again, Daisuke-kun." Iwata Hiroki said. Hiroki-kun was our goal keeper. He had deep brown eyes and black hair, very traditional looking, the girls always said.
"Should I try doing a slide tackle to get the ball away from them?" I replied, frowning thoughtfully as I remembered watching Taichi-sempai do that many times when he played against rival schools. My hair was a lot shorter back then, as I recall. Still it's natural brown, but not spiked, just left alone. My brown eyes looked at my team mates as I awaited their answer.
"I think that would work. If you think you can do something like that, Motomiya-kun." replied the blonde haired, blue eyed Fujita Masaya. He was born in America of a Japanese mother and an American father. A lot of the girls in our class admired him because of his unique look, even at that young of an age.
"I've seen Taichi-sempai do it a few times.. I think I can pull it off.." I replied, pouting a bit at Masaya-san's lack of faith in me. In actuality, I wasn't very sure I could do something like that properly, myself. But I didn't want anyone else to think that I couldn't do it.
"Well then..?" Hiroki-kun said with a shrug of his slender shoulders. "Let's do it."
"Yoush!" I said, my eyes practically flaming with anticipation as I thought about the bold move I was about to try and pull off.
The team all went back to their positions and the game continued as planned. I got into the game quickly, anxious to show my friends what I was capable of pulling off.
As soon as Uchiyama Kyoshi from the other team came towards me with the soccer ball just ahead of him, I was prepared to strike. I ran to the side of him and over zealously made a sliding tackle in front of him, kicking the ball off to the side in a way that I knew would have made Taichi-sempai proud. I felt pride boil up inside me for a few seconds, but quickly that happiness faded as I heard a girl cry out in surprise. I could tell right away that the ball had flown out of the soccer field and most likely hit the owner of the crying voice.
I leapt to my feet, dread washing over me as I looked around for the voice's owner. Just outside the soccer field I could see two girl's, one was sitting on the ground with a hand to her face, the other, whom I knew at the time, was sending me a glare of irritation.
The standing girl, Yuina-chan, stared at me with her dark eyes, her black hair much shorter then than it is now. She angrily called over at me: "MOTOMIYA-KUN NO BAKA!"
My friends all chuckled at me, while I felt my face flush with embarrassment.
"I'll be right back.." I muttered incoherently as I jogged over to the two girls.
The other girl, whom I now know as Hikari-chan, was trying to fight off the falling tears, and had her hands covering her eyes. All I could really tell about her features was that she had chocolate brown hair, similar to my own.
"Ah, I'm really sorry!" I said, bashfully moving a hand behind my head, trying my hardest to avoid looking at Yuina, whose eyes were still burning into the side of my head.
When Hikari looked up at me with her big brown eyes, I felt my heart freeze in my chest. My breath was completely taken away from my lungs.
"I-It's okay.." she said through sniffles, her cheeks were red and wet from her tears, her lower lip was trembling from trying to hold back her tears.
"You should pay more attention, Motomiya-kun!" Yuina said from beside Hikari-chan, her mouth pulled into a frown of annoyed disapproval as she put an arm around Hikari's trembling shoulders.
"Ah... I-I know.. Sorry again.." I bowed slightly, my face burning hot from embarrassment.
Hikari wiped her eyes with the back of her hands and then blinked up at me with those innocent brown eyes. A smile slowly crossed her face as she inquired, "You're Motomiya Daisuke-kun, aren't you?"
I blinked down at her with wide eyes, completely shocked and oblivious to exactally who she was.
"R-Right.."
She nodded to show her understand. "You're friends with my Oniichan."
Yuina helped Hikari to her feet, while I arched a brow at her, still not having a clue as to who she was.
"I'm Yagami Hikari." she said, bowing slightly, her face still red from her crying as well as from the ball hitting her in the face. "Nice to meet you."
I nearly fell over when I heard her name. I couldn't believe I had just smacked my sempai's little sister in the face with a soccer ball!
"Taichi-sempai's sister?!" I chocked out, running my fingers through my hair self conciously. Not only did I happen to hit a really cute girl, this cute girl also was the younger sister to my mentor.
Yuina smirked at me in a most evil way, that told me that she found all of this rather amusing.
I shot Yuina a seething stare in return.
"That's right." Hikari replied, her face beaming at me as she bent over and retrieved the soccer ball for me. "Here." she tossed it to me and after nearly fumbling it, I caught it.
"Th-Thanks.." I replied, my eyes fixed on her smile. Seeing her looking so cheerful gave me a strange feeling in my chest, but I tried to ignore it.
"Nice meeting you." she said, nodding to me and then looking back to Yuina. "Shall we go now?"
"Good idea. See you tomorrow, Dai-chan!" Yuina said, grinning and sticking her tongue out at me mockingly before chuckling and walking away with Hikari by her side.
"B-Bye.." I muttered, staring after them, temporarily dumbstruck.
"Daisuke-kun!" Hiroki called to me, finally breaking me from my daze.
"Oh right... C-Coming!" I called back, jogging onto the soccer field to join in the game.
And this, was the first day I ever met Yagami Hikari. To think that two years following that meeting her and I would go to the Digital world together to take on the Digimon Kaizer! The world sure works in strange ways...
