Author's Note: I have three words for you: sappy Taiora romance. It
does have a plot though. There is a little violence, but I think that
most reader can handle it. I can't guarantee any quality, but I hope
that you enjoy it! ^_^

Dedication: I don't normally dedicate my fics, but ah, what the heck?
This is dedicated to Raine, for her friendship and support of my

It takes courage to love...

Synthetic beats and bass from the dance music vibrated fiercely
throughout the darkened room, making eardrums burst with ecstasy.
Bright shards of light flashed off the walls, illuminating the faces
of joyous people as they danced exuberantly about. Blended odors of
succulent food, perfume and cologne, and sweat made the noses tingle
with excitement. Numerous couples sat at various tables throughout the
room; others were busy dancing on the smooth floor in the club's
center.

Tai was busy swirling the black, sweet liquid around in his glass.
Slight tingles could be heard over the din of the music as the cubes
of ice crashed into the walls of the glass. He lifted the drink to his
mouth and sipped the liquid, savoring its bright flavor. Staring
across the table to the woman he had shared dinner with, his eyes met
hers. Brightness sparkled from them, making her deep brown eyes as
jewels shining in from the darkness.
His heart was thumping deep within his chest as he looked into her
eyes. The only sound that he cared to hear was the soft, rhythmic
inhalation and exhalation of air from her chest. Love poured from his
heart and cascaded to the table and then followed to the floor. The
angel eyes in which he stared belonged to the woman he loved more than
life itself. He was certain that she was his soul mate... that they
shared an unspoken bond, one of love, trust, and courage. His desire
was nothing more than to spend the rest of every moment of eternity
with her.

Sora's feelings were not mutual. As Tai stared into her eyes with
pristine love... she could not feel anything but guilt. His large,
chocolate colored eyes were so beautiful, and she was so undeserving.
How could she tell him what her brain concluded was best, but her
heart deplored? How could she tell him that she was interested in
another?

The worst of the news being: that the other was no more than his best
friend. She loved Tai... there was no doubt. But they were just
friends, and she could not see them as ever more. The look in Tai's
eyes told her everything. How much he loved her, how he would die for
her... and how he knew that she was hesitant.

"Do you want to dance?" he asked compassionately.

She paused before responding, "No... I don't really feel like it right
now."

In the past...

"Sora, you look beautiful tonight."

"Thank you... Matt," Sora blushed as Matt took her in his arms. Then
he kissed her. But she pulled away. "What about Tai?"

"What about him?"

"I think he loves me..."

"Well... so do I..."

"But it would seems so... wrong. You two are best friends... and
you're both friends of mine... so how can I chose?"

"Tai's my friend too. But look at him... he's a washed up soccer
player. I doubt that he'll even make it to the pros. Now look at me.
I'm a popular rock star; tons of girls would love to have me... but
you're the only one that I want."

"I want you too..."

In the present...

"Come on Sora... It'll be a lot of fun, I promise!" Tai smiled, it was
such a beautiful smile.

"All right," Sora said reluctantly. Tai stood from his chair and
offered her his hand. She took it and followed him to the dance floor.

The two began dancing, their bodies following the electronic rhythm of
the dance music. Sora looked so beautiful as she gracefully moved her
body through the viscous medium of air. Her hair fluttered like a
butterfly as she swayed her head to the pulse. Tai would have been
content to just sit and watch her; it would be better than anything
television could ever offer.

Sora laughed as Tai was trying his absolute best to dance. He was
terrible. The wild, brown hair that covered his head became even more
messed as he thrashed about. A smile forced its way to her face as Tai
grinned at her cockily. Tai was right... it was a lot of fun to move
and release some of the pent up anxiety that plagued her. At this
moment she almost decided to abandon her plans to let him down. How
could they ever remain friends if she chose Matt over him?

It was then that an older, drunk looking man grabbed Sora and tried to
force her to dance with him. She pulled back angrily, but the other
refused to let her go. But then something forced him back. The man
turned around and looked at Tai with fury written all over his face.
Tai's expression was serious and deadly.

"I'm dancing with her," he stated coldly.

"Well I'm dancing with her now... punk," the man replied drunkenly. He
was short for his age, and ugly. Mottled blonde fur that could be
called hair covered his disproportional head. A large, deformed nose
jetted from his pale face. Unshaved stubble scratched from his double
chin.

"She's my date, and she doesn't want to dance with you... so back
off."

"Tai... please," Sora stuttered.

The man grabbed her, pulling her close to his rum smelling body. She
squirmed in resistance. Tai grew angry. Forcefully, he grabbed the man
by the neck and ripped him away from Sora. The man stared into Tai's
eyes with distilled hatred, and gasped as Tai shoved him to the
ground.

The grotesque man lay sprawled on the ground, rubbing his bruised
body. Without even a glance or word, he crawled away dejectedly. Tai
smirked as he watched his fallen victim flee the battleground. Then he
looked to Sora, who was not smiling.

"That wasn't really necessary, Tai," the frustration in her voice as
thick as lead.

"What else was I suppose to do?"

"Not every situation can be solved with violence, you know. Let's go
sit down... I want to talk to you about something." Sorrow and
foreboding gleamed from her face as she gently took his hand and lead
him back to their table.

After sitting down, Sora looked deep into Tai's eyes, almost with
regret. "Tai, I've decided to start dating Matt."

The expression on Tai's face was unbearable. What Sora had just said
was disturbing and wrong. Matt was his friend... but he lacked the
ability to love Sora the way that Tai could.

Sadly, he nodded with understanding... and a broken heart. "I see...
well, I hope that you two will be happy together."

"Please, don't be like that Tai."

"How do you want me to react?"

"I don't know, just be happy for me."

"I am... I hope that you two will be happy with each other."

"You don't mean that."

"Yes I do Sora... all I want is for you to be happy." His smile was
both dry and lost.

Sora was on the verge of tears. She had just told one of the most
incredible people in her life that she was choosing another, and he
was happy for her. What other kind of incredible man would feel that
way toward the woman he loves?

Sora smiled. She and Matt could be together, and she had Tai's
blessing. "Are you sure?" she asked.

"I'm positive. If Matt is who you truly love... then I'm happy for
you." Tai could feel his heart breaking within his chest. The pain was
unbearable. Here he was, telling the woman that he loved that he was
glad she had chosen another. What was he thinking?

Lifting the fizzy drink from the table, Tai took a long and satisfying
drought of the dark liquid. It soothed the burning in his throat...
but was unable to quench the fire that tormented his heart. He set the
drink back on the hard table, and at stared at Sora's face. It was
heavenly. The strong curves of her cheeks... her firm red lips... her
beautiful eyes and hair. He was looking at God's most awesome
creation. Not only was she the most beautiful woman in the world, but
she was also was fun, intelligent and exciting. After all of their
adventures in the Digital World, he could have sworn that they had a
deeper relationship than most humans could ever have. But if Matt was
one she loved, than what could he possibly do? Tai wanted nothing more
than to just role over and die.

"I think that we should go now," Sora said both glad, and
disappointed. The handsome brown-haired man looked at her from across
the table. Was this what she really wanted?

The two destined slowly walked outside of the club. It had been a very
fun evening... no doubt. But a slight tinge of sadness was mingled in
the air as they left. Sora had told Taichi that she wanted to start
dating Matt. She had broken his heart. But what else could she do?

Matt was an exciting rock star, who every woman in Tokyo could only
dream of having. How could she give up the chance to date a legend?

Tai walked sadly at Sora's side. What on Earth could he do to get the
woman he loved back? He racked his brain thinking of solutions for the
terrible problem. How had his best friend won her love? Ever since
they first met, Tai had felt that he had an unbreakable bond with
Sora. One that seemed preordained... but was obviously not.

The thick night air was warm and desperate. Dark streets remained
empty... except for an occasional, lonely car passing by. Tai's car
was just down the street; and it sat empty. "I've really had a fun
night," Sora said both truthfully and sadly.

As the two walked by an open ally, Tai was just about to release his
thoughts about Sora's choice to her. But something stopped him. He was
thrown aggressively to the ground by an unknown force. Greedy hands
hit him repeatedly... and one of the hands began to squeeze his
throat. Sora screamed.

As Tai heard the unmistakably click of a switchblade knife, he was
able to steal a glance at his attacker's face. It was the ugly, little
man he had pushed down in the club. A bright rage of fire radiated
from his eyes. The taste of revenge was just beginning to wet his
lips. With a cruel smile and viscous laugh, the ugly man began to push
the knife toward Tai's throat.

Flowing with fear, Sora was hit like a nail by a hammer at what was
happening. The man Tai had humiliated was trying to kill him. She
thought of a way to attack, and save her friend... but was frozen
solid with pure shock.

Tai fought with all his furious might to ward of the drunken man...
but he was at a disadvantage. The blade slowly began to massage his
neck, pleading to cut past the skin. Despite his rage for survival,
Tai was unable to keep dark, destroying thoughts from his mind.
Without Sora, what else did he have to live for? No matter the outcome
of this brawl... there would be no point. Sora had chosen someone
else. Tai was not jealous... just remorseful. How he wished he could
go back in time and confess his love to the woman of his dreams. But
now it was too late.

In the past...

"They are beautiful, aren't they?"

"What are?"

"The stars... they sure look different here in the Digital World...
don't they?"

"I've never noticed before... but you're right, Tai."

"But they're nothing compared to you."

Sora blushed, "You don't mean that... do you?"

"With all my heart."

"That's the worst pick up line I've ever heard," she laughed.

Tai's face was unyielding. He meant every word of what he had said. "I
mean it."

Unshed tears formed pools at Sora's eyes as she thought... "But how
could anyone ever love someone like me..."

In the present...

As the cold, metallic blade of the knife began to prick Tai's skin,
Sora began to realize that she might lose him. Was the rest of life
even bearable without him? As she heard Tai's struggled gasps for
breath and saw his face contorted with defeat, she began to realize
the truth. She knew that she could not live without him. That his
heart beat along with hers. If he died... so would she.

Matt was a good friend, but now she realized that that was all he
was... and could ever be. The man that she loved lay in a life
struggle on the harsh, rocky ground. And as he neared a gruesome
death, she understood that she could not live without him. He was her
life... her passion... her true love. Then, she did the only thing
that she could do... or face oblivion.

"Tai... I love you!" She screamed with all the power her lungs could
produce.

Those words seemed to enter Tai's ears from some forgotten dream. The
countless hours he had imagined Sora saying those words were now
flooding to his memory. But wait... they were real. His mind had
perceived the angel-like voice of Sora's... she was screaming how much
she loved him... and pleading with him not to give up.

Those words brought him courage... and the love that he needed to
survive. Struggling with all his might, he forced the wretched man off
his body and sent him crashing to the ground beside him.

With a fearsome snarl, the man jumped back to his feet. Tai stood up
and looked directly at him, with eyes both dead and alive. For his old
soul had perished, the one that had loved but never had Sora. He was
now invincible. He had been reborn... and would not let anyone take
this new life away from him.

Spitefully, the man jumped at him, swinging the knife his direction.
But Tai was faster than the sands of time, and easily dodged the
attack. With a quick kick to the man's left knee, Tai sent the man
cascading to the ground.

Angrily, the man growled and jumped to his feet. Another swift kick
from Tai sent the knife flying from the man's hand. His eyes were wide
with shock and terror as Tai's fist moved imperceptibly into his
face... causing him to fly hard into the wall of the building. He
slumped to the ground, defeated and unconscious. Tai, once again...
stood as victor over his weak enemy.

He turned and looked back at Sora, the woman he loved with all his
heart and soul. She was smiling... not because he had defeated the
cheating attacker... but because he had won her heart fair and square.

Tai carefully walked to her... and took her in his arms. She stared at
him with loving eyes for the first time. Then both of their eyes
closed... and they kissed. It was the alpha of their kisses... but
would not be the omega. Tai felt Sora's warm body in his arms... and
could only accept that his dreams had come true.

Sora stood, grasped by his powerful arms and chest... knowing that she
had made the right decision. She had found her soul mate. Though
almost choosing wrong... and almost loosing him forever... she was now
in eternity... with the one she love. What would she tell Matt? The
truth.

It takes courage to love... and will you have it when the day comes?
Will you confess your heart to your soul mate? Or... will the wrong
path deceive you? Have courage...

Author's Note: OK, I know that this was unbelievably sappy. I'm sorry.
Just thought that I would give it a try. I hope that you don't feel
like you've wasted too much time by reading this... All reviews are
