Following Your Heart

Chapter One

Yolie woke up feeling weird, like as if something was going to happen. Hopefully it was a good feeling but then… with Davis working with at the shop… you can never tell!

Yolie went to school and everything seemed to be going perfectly normal. She slept through first period, ate with her five friends at lunch and flirted with the very cute blonde, Tem, her last period.

Then came the dreadful part, after school…

Yolie sighed as she put her store uniform on. She then walked behind the counter and she started to wipe it. She looked at the clock and sighed. If Davis is late…

She suddenly saw Davis running through the doors, slide across the floor and hitting a couple of shelves. Yolie grumbled as she shook her head.

Davis crawled across the floor until he reached a pair of girl sneakers. Davis's eyes looked up at Yolie with a sour expression.

"Hey," Davis glanced back at the mess and then at Yolie, "At least I'm on time." He smiled at her.

Yolie growled, threw down a white rag onto his head and with one word she said, "Clean," and then stormed back to the counter.

Davis, with the rag still on his head, sighed, "Whatever you say, boss."

"I feel so sick that it's seems as if I'm burning one night," Kari told T.k., who had come by her house to keep Kari company. T.k. had dropped by to see how he's friend was holding up.

"Then at times I feel like I'm floating," Kari sneezed, "It's not the good sort of floating though." T.k. laughed, "Well, I passed by Yolie's family shop and spotted Davis in an apron with cartons of eggs. Yolie was yelling for him to be careful. I would have stopped in for a chat or a question or two but my mom was shouting for me to hurry up."

Kari giggled," That was Davis working for Yolie." T.k.'s eyes grew wide, "Really? Wait, you chose Davis to help Yolie!"

Gatomon, the cat like Digimon, stuck her head from behind the closet. "Yup! And I was there!" She then stuck her head back in.

"Wait," Kari smiled at T.k., "Are you jealous?"

T.k., very sincerely, stated, "Jealous is not the case… it's the matter of Davis's life."

"Yeah," Kari threw her head back and giggled, "tell me about it!"

T.k. shook his head and got up, "I've got to go," Kari smiled at her friends, "You should see if Davis is living."

T.k. chuckled, "I'm in doubt but I'll check anyways."

As T.k. walked into the store, he spotted Davis packaging containers of pickles into a large box.

"Hey Davis!"

Davis looked up to see T.k., "Oh, hey T.K." T.k. raised an eyebrow; Davis had gotten his name right!

"Are you feeling alright Davis?" T.k. cocked his head to one side in thought. Davis sighed and stopped packaging, "Nah, too tired…"

T.k. scratched his head and patted Davis on the back, "Well, I'd love to help but I'm needed at home."

Davis yawned and waved at T.k. as T.k. walked out of the store. "Yeah, Yeah, "Davis yawned again as he taped up the box.

Yolie, who was working in the back at a desk, was filling some papers out for some deliveries. Yolie took off her glasses, rubbed her eyes and sighed.

Working with Davis wasn't as bad as Yolie thought… kind of…

Davis had broken twelve new egg cartons, ate five boxes of chocolate, threw away seven containers that contained money (which was returned by the dumpster guy who was gracious enough to ask for a reward) and scared away some costumers with his snoring during his lunch break.

But all in all, it wasn't that bad. Yolie closed her eyes as she leaned against the back of her chair. Her glasses lay on the desk and her head tilted to the side.

Davis, wanting to know when he could leave, knocked on Yolie's father's office. "Hey," Davis said loudly, "Can I go home?"

Hearing no answer, Davis sighed and opened the door.

"Yolie, did you not-" He stopped short after seeing the pink-haired girl asleep soundly in her father's chair. The only source of light was coming from the lamp on the desk. It only lit up a small fraction of the room.

The light had given Yolie a sort-of golden glow to her skin and her hair lay across her shoulders. Davis couldn't help but stare. What really was four seconds seemed like four years or an eternity to Davis as he gazed at Yolie.

Yolie stirred and Davis almost screamed. As Yolie lazily opened her eyes slowly, Davis scratched his head furiously and looked around for some way out.

It was too late. Yolie had her eyes open and she was still sleepy but she was conscious.

"Davis?" Yolie stretched out her arms and yawned. "What is it?"

Davis looked down to keep Yolie from spotting his redden cheeks. "I was just wondering if there was anything else I needed to do and to ask if I could go if there isn't… um, you know its kind of getting late…"

Yolie glanced down at her watch, "Whoa! Its almost ten!"

Davis looked up, his face returning back to his regular color. "I put the apron on the counter up front." Yolie got up and straightened some things on the desk and walked Davis's way. "Come on," Yolie pulled a key out of her back pocket, "Lets close up."

Davis sighed a breath of relief, "Great… I'm so tired from today…" Yolie held the door for Davis and then closed it and locked it. "Thanks Davis." Yolie told the boy.

Davis scratched his head, "For what?"

Yolie shrugged, "Just for helping out, though you'd probably want to be out there playing soccer or spending time with Kari."

Davis blushed and glad that Yolie hadn't noticed his crimson face. "Um, well, I'm glad to do it! And besides," Davis smiled at Yolie sincerely, "Friends do that for friends…"

Davis had said with so much sincerity, Yolie had to believe it for some reason.

Davis and Yolie walked out of the store. As Yolie locked the door, Davis said, "I should walk you home since it's real late."

"No," Yolie said, "It's alright."

Davis took Yolie by the elbow, "Yolie! I'm walking you home, okay?" Yolie looked up at Davis, startled, but she nodded her head.

"Sure, I guess…" Yolie scratched her head.

As they started to walk Davis tried to start a conversation, "So… I heard you and Ken have a thing going on."

Yolie sighed, "I wish! No, really, there isn't."

Davis then felt very uncomfortable with the subject so he changed it, "It's a beautiful night." Yolie looked at Davis as he stared into the sky.

"Davis?"

"Yeah?"

"How much do you like Kari?"

Davis looked at Yolie, "You know… No one has ever asked me like that."

"I guess I just like her since I met her and her brother." Davis said.

They finally reached Yolie's apartment when Yolie just realized something. "Davis!" Yolie exclaimed, "Have you noticed we haven't fought through that whole walk!"

Davis laughed, "Should we start now?"

"What should we fight about?" Yolie said smartly crossing her arms across her chest.

Davis leaned forward so that his nose almost touched Yolie's and he smiled.

"I hate you, Yolie."

"I hate you, too, Davis." Yolie smirked back jokingly.

They then stood there for a few minutes to where they finally both realized their position at the moment.

Yolie and Davis both jumped back abruptly and stammered. "Um, see you later, Davis."

"See you later…" Davis said. As they both turned Davis spoke up, "Yolie?"

Yolie turned her head and body slightly, "Yeah?"

Davis smiled as he stuck his hands in his pocket, "I'm glad that we're getting to work together."

Yolie blinked in surprise.

Davis smiled, a smile that had Yolie stop breathing for some unknown reason. "I'm starting to like it."

And before Yolie could say anything, Davis was gone in a flash.
