Hearts of the Star 6 Laughter
"But what?" Zoe asks. "If you love him you shouldn't let anything else get in the way. As soon as we find him you're gonna tell him, you got it? Cause if you don't, I will."
"But . . ."
"No buts about it," Takuya smiles. "Once Zoe sets her mind on something, it's gonna happen."
"But, I can't," I insist.
"Of course you can. All you have to do is say, 'Kouichi, I love you,'" Zoe encourages.
"It's not that simple. I can't tell him, not now, not ever. I just have to let well enough alone."
"Ok, ya lost me," Takuya admits.
"Why exactly can't you tell him?" Koji asks.
"Because," I blush. Oh no, what if they decide not to help me after I tell them that Kouichi is gay?
"Oh come on, just tell him, it's not like he's gay, right?" J.P. buts in.
"J.P!" Zoe, Tommy, Takuya and Koji yell.
"Actually, well, he is," I finally say it.
Silence falls over the children.
"Oh, in that case I take back what I said," J.P. smiles, a sweat drop appearing on the side of his head.
"Never mind him," Zoe states, pushing J.P. aside. "I don't care if he's married to another guy, you've gotta tell him how you feel."
By now, Zoe's up in my face, so I take a step back, as I am feeling uncomfortable.
"But, I can't do that . . ." I state as I look down and close my eyes allowing my hair to hide them from the sight of the others. Kouichi's face pops into my head with a look of disappointment. It was the same face he had made when I told him about my father. My eyes shoot open. "No, I can't. I won't."
"But, don't you love him?" J.P. asks.
"I do, with all my heart. That's why I can't tell him."
"You're not making any sense," Takuya comments.
"When you truly care about someone you just want them to be happy," I explain. "That's all I want for Kouichi. Happiness. If I were to tell him that I . . . It would make him feel guilty, and that would make him unhappy. He's happy with his boyfriend, so let him be happy."
I hear someone start to sniffle, so I look up to see tears in Takuya's eyes and snot coming out of his nose.
"What's wrong, Takuya?" Zoe asks.
"It's just so beautiful," Takuya sniffles as he wipes his eyes.
"So? Why are you getting so emotional over it?" J.P. asks.
"It's just very rare to hear someone say such beautiful things about people who are homosexual."
Suddenly I start to laugh a little with a small smile on my face, holding back as much as possible.
"What's gotten into her?" Koji asks J.P.
"I have no clue," J.P. admits.
"Thank you so much, Takuya, for not judging him and speaking so nicely about it," I laugh.
"Ok, but what are you laughing about?" Zoe asks.
"Because, it takes a really great guy to talk so emotionally about homosexuality with his pants around his ankles," I burst out laughing as I hold my stomach, unable to hold back any longer.
"What?" everyone asks, turning to Takuya.
"EW! TAKUYA! PULL YOUR PANTS UP!" Zoe screams looking away with a blush on her face.
"Oops," Takuya blushes as he quickly does as he's told. "Sorry, guys."
"GET A BELT!" Zoe screams.
