Chapter Twenty-Four

Where am I? I think. Am I dead? It's so warm here.

"Time to wake up, my dear," the voice from my detector speaks to me.

I don't want to wake up. Please don't make me leave, it's warm here, like Mother's arms, I think as I hug my knees closer to my chest, desperately wanting to stay wherever I am.

"Time is short, my dear, you must fulfill your promise to me," the voice comments.

Promise? What promise? I think in total confusion.

"The promise you made when we first met, my dear," the voice reminds me.

I made a promise? But…I don't remember….

"Let me remind you."

Images fill my head of when I first came to the digital world. At first, I'm with Kouichi trapped within this weird dimension with pictures of his memories flying around us, such as pictures of Koji and his family, or pictures of his mom.

"Kouichi…?" I speak up, slightly nervous about just floating around somewhere that I definitely don't recognize.

"They had to choose Koji," Kouichi states in a grudging voice.

"Kouichi…" I repeat, slightly scared as I pull my hand away from him and hold it up to my lips out of nervousness.

"Mother!" Kouichi screams as the picture of his mother flies past us.

Suddenly, a force yanks us apart, dragging Kouichi down into this darkness, while pulling me towards this ball of warm light.

"Kouichi!" I shout out after him in vain, I doubt he even hears me. "Kouichi! Come back! Let me go! I have to be with Kouichi!"

"Do you wish to return to your friend?" the voice asks me, this being the first time that I hear it.

"Wh-who are you?" I stutter, looking in the direction of the voice, directly into the ball of light.

"I'm here to help you. What is your deepest desire?" it asks.

"I want to help Kouichi…no…I need to help Kouichi. Please, I have to find Kouichi; can you take me to him?" I beg desperately.

"Unfortunately, I am trapped here. However, if you promise your loyalty to me I can help you find him in the Digital World."

"Digital World?" I ask with a blink. "Is that where Kouichi is?"

"Yes, he's waiting for you in the Digital World. I can send you to the Digital World if you'd like, and all I would like from you in return is your assistance."

"Assistance? What kind of assistance?"

"Fulfilling your destiny."

"I'll be with Kouichi, right?" I ask nervously, not liking the doubt and hesitation in my decision.

"Of course, my dear, would I lie to you?"

"Please, take me to the Digital World. I promise, I'll do whatever you'd like, I just want to be with Kouichi!" I shout into the light.

"Your wish is my command," the voice responds before everything goes dark.

Oh yeah, now I remember, I think to myself as I begin to uncurl from my ball within the warm light. You're the one who brought me to the Digital World in order to meet up with Kouichi again. You're the one who helped me. And the one who gave me my Digimon form of Enryamon, aren't you?

"Yes, my dear."

But…I don't get it, didn't I die?"

"Almost. I managed to gather your data together into a Digiegg here and nurtured your egg until now," the voice explains.

Digiegg? I was a digiegg? How bizarre, I think. How many kids can say that they were born from an egg?

"You must return to the Digital World, before it's too late. Time runs short before my window of opportunity closes."

What do you want from me?

"Don't worry, everything will come natural. Are you ready for the return trip to the Digital World?"

I'm not going to have to try and find the others again, am I?

"No, I can pinpoint the legendary warriors exactly from here. Have a safe trip, my dear."

With that, my body begins to lift away from the light.
