Chapter 9 Just Some Talking
After hours of walking, we finally find Kouji. I'm so
happy. He's looking at some huge, ugly bird that's flying
off into the distance. "Are you O.K.?" Takuya asks him.
"Yeah," Kouji replies. "Thanks to Ophanimon." "What was
that ugly bird flying away?" I ask. "Duskmon," Kouji replies.
"He absorbed Cherubimon's power and "Slide Evolved"
from his human spirit." Patamon flies up to Kouji and
jumps into his arms. "Hi, I'm Patamon." "It was him that
helped you Fusion Evolve," Izumi explains. "Yalanda
helped, too." Kouji looks down at Patamon. "Thanks, Little
Guy." "You, also, Yalanda," he adds, looking at me.
"You're welcome," Patamon replies. I nod, embarrassed.
"Hey, who's this?" Takuya asks, squatting down to
Nekomon. "I'm Nekomon," Nekomon says, before I could
reply. "The one from you're Digi-Egg?" Takuya asks,
looking up at me. "Yeah," I reply. "She's so cute!" Izumi
exclaims. She picks up Nekomon and hugs her. "Well,
since everyone's here, we can now head to the 'Rose
Morning Star',"Bokomon says. "I've been ready for this
the entire time," Junpei says. "Yeah, ready to eat," Takuya
says, sarcastically. Everyone laughs, except for Kouji. He
looks lost in thought. A moment, later, he gasps. He hands
Patamon to me and runs off. "Kouji, come back!" Takuya
calls, but he doesn't seem to hear. "Wow, he sure can
run," Neemon says. "Maybe he thinks we're supposed to
race each other there." Takuya sighs, turning his back to
us. "When will he ever learn that he can't solve all of his
problems by him?" He turns back to us. "I'm gonna go get
him." No one says anything. "Why are you all looking at
me like that?" he demands. "If you go off on your on, it'll
be just like a horror movie," Junpei says. "Like a what?!"
Takuya demands. "A horror movie," Junpei repeats. "The
Boogie Man gets you when you least expect it. That's why
you should never run off on your own. It's the Horror
Movie Rule. Break it and you're toast." Everyone groans.
"Does it looking like I'm laughing?" Takuya demands,
pointing to his face. "Why would you?!" Junpei exclaims.
"I'm being serious!" "Yeah, well I'll take my chances with
the Boogie Man,"Takuya says, crossing his arms. "Fine!"
Junpei says in an exasperated tone. "Go on!" "Hey, guys,
let's not fight," Izumi says. "Izumi's right," Takuya says. "I'll
go get Kouji and be back in a jiffy. "You guys stay here." He
runs off. "It better not be a long jiffy," Bokomon says. Izumi
sighs.
"Well, we might as well start dinner." Neemon and
Patamon cheer. "Izumi chan, you can't be serious," Junpei
says. "Listen, I'm not gonna hang around just because
Takuya says we should." "We can't leave," Tomoki
reminds him. "He told us to stay here." "If Takuya told you
to shave your head and run around like a madman, would
you do it?" Junpei asks him. He takes out his D-scanner
and holds it up to his face. "Besides, remember these? We
can take of ourselves if there's trouble." "So, what do you
think we should do?" Izumi asks. "Go on a scouting
mission!" Junpei exclaims. "A scouting mission?!"
Everyone asks, in unison. "To get information," he replies.
"Don't you wonder what the 'Rose Morning Star' is? We
should know what to expect when we get there." "Are you
completely insane?!" Bokomon demands. "Do you want to
be destroyed?!" "I think that's what I'm here for," Junpei
replies. "Seriously, I've been thinking and, at first, I was
mad when everyone but me had gotten their spirits. It was
like being held back a year in school and I hated it."Oh,
Junpei," Izumi says, simpathetically."And then, when
Takuya and Kouji gained the ability to 'Fusion Evolve', I
was really happy for them," Junpei continues,"but I can't
help thinking why it couldn't have been me instead of
them. I realize that there are things only those guys can
do, just like there are things only I can do." He turns
around to face us. "And I think this is one of them" He
smiles. "You're not going anywhere without me" Tomoki
says, making a fist. "I don't know, Tomoki," Junpei says,
doubtfully. Bokomon walks up to Tomoki, glaring. "Young
man, what are you doing?! You're supposed to be on my
side!" "No, you're not going!" Izumi says, firmly. "All right!"
Bokomon cheers. "You're not going anywhere unless you
take ME with you" she adds, smiling. Tomoki and Junpei
smile too and they all run off. “Come back here, Nincompoops!” Bokomon exclaims. “We’ll be back soon!” Junpei calls back to us. A soft breeze blows as Bokomon, Neemon, Patamon, Nekomon, and I watch them disappear from view. “Maybe we smell,” Neemon says, after a few seconds. “But, I’m new,” Patamon says. I sigh.
