Hope For an End
Part Two - The Beginning of an End
My first posting as a
15 year old!!!! YES! It's my birthday today, June 10th, incase
you're wondering what I mean ^_^
Last time all the
colours and fonts I had for par tone didn't post right on FF.net, so I hope
they will this time…
I've dropped little
hints as to what's gonna happen…. Can you guess? I might give a prize to
someone who can…. Draco, sorry you're out, I told you…. Kale, I think I told
you too, didn't I? ^_~
And yes, this part has
Takari. I'm differing from my usual style… I'll put more about it the bottom so
I won't spoil anything.
Ok, here's part two,
this is going out to a really nice reviewer of mine, Mandy, who hasn't left me
her email so I could mail her back. But you rule chica!
I had this all written
out (I do all my stories by hand before I even think about typing) except for
the last few pages, so that's why it's out so quick ^^ I hope you're all happy
with it!!! I already have two pages of part three written, so hopefully that
won't be too far away!
Hold on to that dream,
Tomorrow knows where and
when,
It's true what you
believe,
Don't let go, the road
will never end.
-Excerpt from Magic Knight
RayEarth Theme
The wind blew harshly through the empty street, closed in
by residential high rises on either side. The sound of marching could faintly
be heard drawing nearer on the cool day, just after noon.
A face peered out from between the curtains of a pleasant
twentieth story apartment. From the
ground below, the features of a boy about fifteen years of age could not be
distinguished; but if one looked from up close they would be able to see the
tousled golden blond hair and clear blue eyes that viewed the scene below.
"The patrols are late today, mom, I wonder if anything's
happened?"
Nancy Takaishi turned away from her laptop to face her
son. "I don't know TK, but I wouldn't worry about it. Probably just another
false alarm from the Americans. Why don't you just watch TV or something, your
brother should be coming home soon, just sit tight."
This cheered up TK considerably. His brother Matt had
joined the Japanese army when he had turned 18, and was on reserve in Nagano.
Once a month he had a weekend release and would come to visit, these were the
days TK looked forward to most.
Retreating to his room he flopped down on his blue
covered bed and heaved a sigh that ruffled his bangs. Mentally noting to get
his haircut he let his gaze sweep over the room. As small as it was, it was his
own space, and he was grateful for it. It was a lot more than plenty of people
had, especially now. He had a small desk, which was home to his phone and
laptop; a dresser occupied the rest of the space on that wall. Beside the door
was his closet, and against a side wall his bed. Opposite that was a tall oak
bookshelf, completely filled with all sorts of books.
Standing up he crossed the gray carpet and looked over
the titles. Some were fantasy, some Sci-Fi, but there was mostly his favorite,
the novels concerning the early 21st century. Before the plague
wiped out millions. He wondered what it
was like to live in a time where armies, fighting, and death weren't all one
could think about. The plague was always in the back of people's minds nowadays
too. Could it happen again? The population is even bigger now than it was then…
The sound of a door closing snapped TK out of his
thoughts. "Hey, TK, where are you?" A blond head peeked around the door, and
the body it belonged to soon after. Matt walked over to TK and gave his brother
a hug. As tall as TK was, Matt still towered over him. "So little bro, how have
you been?"
"I'm fine Matt. You?"
"I'm
good, here, come into the living room, there's someone I want you to meet."
Following
Matt curiously down the short hallway he came upon his mother, talking to a
strange guy. He looked about Matt's age, with wild brown hair and chocolate
brown eyes.
"TK,
this is my friend Tai, he's in the same reserve as I am. His family lives in
this complex, on the 6th floor. He's going down to see them in a minute."
Tai
grinned widely and shook TK's hand. "I just wanted to meet Matt's little
brother, whom he will never shut up about."
Matt
shoved Tai playfully and stated, "Well, I'm not as bad as you and talking about
your sister. Actually, why doesn't your family come over for dinner, I'm sure
mom won't mind. Will you mom?"
Nancy
smiled fondly at Matt. "Of course not dear, it's so nice to see that you're
making friends, it's like to meet Tai's family too."
So
a phone call later and TK's mom was making dinner for six instead of the usual
three. Tai explained that his father too was in the army, a Captain to Mr
Takaishi's Major decorations.
"It's
helpful to have a father high up there, the lower officers don't want to make
enemies of the bosses sons!" He stated with a lopsided smile.
TK
was settled into an overstuffed armchair listening to Tai and Matt talk when
there was a knock at their door.
"TK,
sweetie, would you go get that please?" His mother requested.
Grumbling
he shifted and got up, that chair had been comfortable, and walked the short
distance to the door. On opening it he was greeted with two figures.
"Mom,
Kari!" Tai exclaimed as he swept by TK to envelop both his mother and sister in
a hug. "TK, Matt, Mrs. Takaishi, I'd like you to meet Clare Kamiya, my mom, and
Kari, my little sister. She's the same age as you, TK."
TK
studied the girl. She was pretty, no doubt about that. Her light brown hair was
pulled in a high ponytail with two thin strands hanging down to frame her face.
Large crimson eyes were offset by a light pink tanktop and pale yellow capris.
Kari
too was sizing up TK. He looked a lot like his brother she noted. Same eyes,
same hair, but his build was slightly more muscular. In his baggy blue jeans
and navy shirt he looked pretty good to her.
"Hello
Mrs. Kamiya, Kari, its nice to meet you." TK said with a bright smile. "Please
come in."
Smiling
back Kari stepped in and slid off her shoes, slipping on a pair of pink
slippers the same shade as her top. "It's nice to meet you too, TK. I don't get
to see too many people our age since schools out, and its too dangerous to go
our often."
"I
know what you mean, its great you're in this building…." He looked at his mom
and hers in the kitchen, and Tai and Matt sprawled over most of the living room
furniture. "Well, since most of the apartment has been taken over, do you wanna
go sit in my room?"
Nodding
she followed TK down the narrow hallway and into his room. He sat down heavily
on his bed while she looked around appreciatively. Kneeling down she picked up
the book TK had dropped when Matt came home, The Stand, and placed it
back in it's place.
"You sure do have a lot of books." She commented.
"Yeah, it gets a bit boring around here sometimes, and it
passes the time."
Smiling she sat down beside him on the bed, looking up
slightly to meet the taller boy's eyes. "Well, hopefully now that we've met
each other everything will be a bit more fun. What school do you go to?"
TK smiled back, a blush slightly staining his cheeks.
"Well, I used to go to Obidia High, but this year my mom wants me in private
school, too many riots in public now."
Nodding her smile grew. "Good you'll need someone to show
you around… you are going to Nerima, right?" She was satisfied by a nod and
started up on a light narration about what he could expect; what teachers to
avoid, and which were easy markers.
By the time TK's mom called them for dinner TK knew more
about Kari than some of his close friends. She was so bright and friendly, he
felt drawn to her.
Kari felt this in her own way about TK. His good looks
weren't all that would make her friends jealous. After all, at private school
it was hard to find someone with physical and personality appeal, spoiled
rotten brats with no modesty were way too common for her liking. TK was
attentive and sweet, he seemed genuinely interested in what she had to say, and
eager to put in his own thoughts.
For the rest of the summer TK and Kari could be seen
almost always together. In early August when TK nervously asked Kari if she'd
like to go to a movie with him no one was surprised that she said yes. Matt and
Tai took to exchanging obvious winks and nudges when Kari was seen with her
head on TK's shoulder, or they were holding hands, and their mothers decided it
was perfectly adorable.
Often they would come into TK's room to sit curled up
together and read, or sometimes just sit and talk for hours. Subjects went from
how annoying their older brothers could be, to the topic of one day, the war.
"Kari, do you think this will ever end?"
"What do you mean, TK?"
"The war, the fighting… fear of another plague, fear of
going out alone after dark, everyone, us, our brothers, out fathers, not able
to be normal… Sometimes it just seems so pointless! Almost all
the time it seems pointless! God, I can't even take you out without worrying
about an attack or bombing. And we're even luckier than most."
Kari soothingly caressed his cheek. "If everyone saw it
your way TK, the world would be much better off."
Smiling slightly he drew her even closer to him. "Kari,
girls like you are the reason guys go off to fight wars. To keep you safe…"
She buried her face in his shoulder and whispered
brokenly, "TK, I hope for an end before you ever have to go away."
Dah dah dah daaaahhhhHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^_^ The end
of part two! Hee!!! Did you guys like it??? I hope so!!!!
Ok, usually all
the Takari I read, and a lot of what I write is like "I love you, we're not
going out but lets kiss and everything will be fine." But I'm trying to break
away from that. I know few writers who work on actually developing the
relationship, and do it well. That's what I'm shooting for in this fic, and I
hope I can do it!!!
I've gotta go to
my Gramma's now, I'm glad I finished this for you guys before I left ^_^ I
gotta go to my birthday dinner ^_^
