~Dai-kuns POV~
“Hey guys can we meet up after school; there's something I need to talk to you about.”
“Maybe, it won't take long will it, I have a Kendo club meeting after school, but I've got a short break before it starts.”
“Nah, it shouldn't take more than five or ten minutes. Let's meet over by those tables near the front gates.”
Nods all around, “Okay, hey Daisuke can you tell us this is about.”
“I'd rather wait until then to say; Hikari can you let Miyako know so she can meet us there.”
~After school~
“Hey guys thanks for meeting me out here,” Daisuke greeted his gathered friends with a nervous grin, “but wait where's Take-kun”
“He was called into a meeting with his coach. He doesn't know how long he'll be.”
“Oh, okay well I guess I can tell him latter.”
“So Dai-chan what's this all about?”
“Well you guys are my friends, and I really don't like keeping secrets from you so here it goes. The thing is I'm gay, and I've known about it for a while.” Daisuke looked up at the blank faces of his friends and began to feel a little worried, sure he hadn't expected them to jump up and down and congratulate him, but he was hoping for a better reaction than he seemed to be getting. “You see, I have always been more comfortable around guys. It wasn't until the fag jokes started to show up that it clicked, that's what I was, but at the same time I wasn't like that at all. I enjoy rough and tumble sports; I enjoy just hanging out with the guys, even if I am discreetly checking out their ass. I have never acted like a limp wrist flamer, and that just confused me even more. So I began to fake interest in girls, sorry Hikari you too, while at the same time I was examining my own behaviors and feelings. A little while ago I came across a gay teen website and saw all these different types of guy's there on the web telling their stories, and I realized, I didn't have to act any certain way because I can only be myself. That's when I decided to tell you guys.”
“So let me get this straight, you don't like girls…” Miyako started to say.
“Wait I still like girls I'm just not attracted to them sexually.”
“But you are attracted to guys… that just gross.”
“Have you ever checked me out?” Iori asked quietly.
Daisuke ignored Miyako's comment and answered “Yeah, your kind of cute when you're not being all serious and scholarly.”
It was then that Daisuke noticed the expressions on the other three's faces', it was one of disgust bordering on revulsion. “I can see that you are not taking this well.”
Hikari suddenly stood up “of course we're not taking this well our friend comes up to us out of the blue and tells us he's a sick perverted freak and you think we should be happy for you. I'm sorry Daisuke but until you come to your senses and rejoin the rest of us in here in normal reality I just cannot be around you.” With that she walked off whispering to Miyako while Iori shook his head in disgust and headed towards Kendo practice.
“Well shit that could have gone a lot better. I imagine that Takeru will have about the same reaction as the others so I'll just go home and let the others tell him. I'm sure that by tomorrow the whole school will have heard about me.” With that Daisuke got up and made his way to his family's empty apartment.
~Take-chans POV~
Takeru walked out of the gym with a sports drink, shaking his head. He noticed Hikari and Miyako walking towards the building opposite him and called out a greeting. Running up to them he noticed their stiff postures and sensed that they were slightly upset. “So I take it that Daisuke's meeting is over.”
“Yeah, I can't believe the little freak believes that shit he was saying. It's just not right, guys are supposed to chase after me... I mean girls, not other guys. Don't you think so TK?” Miyako asked.
“So Daisuke finally told you he was gay huh?”
“Yes doesn't that just make you sick, wait, what do you mean by finally?” Hikari asked.
“You mean you hadn't figured it out already; I guessed his secret months ago.”
“You knew and it doesn't bother you.”
“Dai-kun hasn't told me directly, but yes I knew, and why should it bother me. I assume though by your reactions that it does bother you.”
“No, it disgusts me, guys and girls are supposed to fall in love, get married, and have babies. Two guys can't do any of those things.”
“You two are serious about this aren't you; I'm assuming again that Iori had the same reaction as you.”
“Of course, how else is anybody supposed to react to something like this?”
“By having faith in your friend to know what he's talking about, and standing beside him even when you don't agree with everything he says or does. Oh, and as for your comment Miyako two guys can most definitely love each other, I should know I'm at least bisexual and leaning more towards the liking guys side with every bigoted, homophobic word you two say.” Frowning Takeru turned and began to walk away; suddenly he stopped, turned back around and said “by the way Hikari until you grow up and stop being so narrow minded I think it's best if we stop seeing each other.” With that TK walked off towards his locker.
“Did Takeru-kun just say he likes boys the same way Daisuke does?” Miyako asked.
Hikari ignored Miyako's question, instead she screeched “he, he, he just BROKE UP with ME, in favor of DAISUKE of all people. Takeru is supposed to LOVE ME!!! He cannot be attracted to guys because that's just WRONG. It is sick, unmoral, unnatural and physically disgusting, and I will make sure he regrets ever leaving me.” With that she stormed off already making plans for revenge.
~Daisuke's apartment~
Daisuke called out a greeting as he closed the front door. Hearing nothing but silence he sigh “I guess it's another single bachelors night at the old Motomiya place tonight. He placed his shoes by the front door and carried his messenger's bag containing his school books to his room. Coming back through the living room he hit the play button on the answering machine and continued on into the kitchen. Once there he found two notes one from his father saying he'd be working out of the office for the next couple of day's trying to beat a product deadline. The other was from Jun; it basically said that since their parents were not going to be home, neither would she. Daisuke was puzzled by that for a second until he heard his mother's voice on the answering machine telling them that she had to fly to Tokyo for an emergency management meeting and would not be back for three day, possibly a week.
Daisuke sigh again at how right his prediction had been. He then went about preparing a sandwich; opening a kitchen drawer he paused to look at a large chef's knife for a few seconds before bypassing it and grabbed a spoon for the mayonnaise. “I won't even consider that option; it would be like saying that they are right and letting them win. Daisuke Motomiya never backs down from a challenge.” Nodding to himself, he replaced the sandwich meat in the fridge before grabbing and pouring a glass of juice. He grabbed his snack and headed back to his room to begin his homework.
~Takeru's apartment~
TK opened the door to his apartment, slipped his shoes off and went to place his backpack in his room. Coming back to the kitchen he found his mom preparing dinner “hey, your home early.”
“Yes, they finally hired some new personnel so the rest of us are finally getting a breather. Did I tell you I'm up for a promotion to senior management, if I get it I will not have to work so many late hours and still bring in a larger paycheck.”
TK hugged his mom and said “that's great, how long until dinner?”
“The rÅsuto¹ should be ready in an hour and a half, why?” his mother asked.
“Something happened with Daisuke at school today, I just want to make sure he's all right.” TK paused before going on “I know it's a school night but if it's all right with his parents can he spend the night over here?”
“I can tell you're worried about him so tell me what happened before I say yes.”
TK thought for a few seconds then said “He… after school he told Kari, Miyako, and Iori that he's gay. They did not react well at all. My impression is they shunned him because of it. I had a basketball meeting at the time so I wasn't there, but I meet Kari and Miyako later and they really bad mouthed Dai-kun. I told them off and broke up with Kari, telling her that she had to grow up before I would have anything else to do with her. I also let it slip about my own preferences. I imagine that by tomorrow most of the school will have heard, knowing Miyako's and Kari's gossip circles.”
TK's mother hugged him tight and said “Oh baby if his parents don't mind he will be most welcome here anytime, I think that right now he really needs to know that he still has friends that support him.” She looked at TK thoughtfully for a minute “your not attracted to him are you?”
TK blushed slightly “Yeah I am a little bit, but don't worry I remember my promise `no sex until I'm at least sixteen.' I'm not planning on jumping into bed with him for any reason other than to sleep. I was already thinking about breaking up with Kari before this happened. I'm just afraid I may have lost her friendship entirely over this, and I think that Dai-kun and I will have enough problems to deal with at school for a while.”
Ms. Takashi hugged her son one last time before pushing him out the door “Go take care of Daisuke, and be back in time for supper” she called out; with a sigh she closed the door. “Who ever said boys are less complicated than girls obviously never had any.”
~Daisuke's apartment/ Take-chans POV~
TK knocked on the front door a few times before he heard a muffled “Coming” from inside the apartment. Daisuke opened the door and gave Takeru a wary look.
Takeru moved forward quickly and pulled Dai-kun into a hug. Dai resisted at first until he realized that TK was not attacking him; he cautiously wrapped his arms around TK and asked “what are you doing here?”
“I am here to let you know that you still have friends, I also wanted to make sure you were alright.”
Daisuke immediately figured out what he was talking about and answered guiltily “yeah I did think about it for about two seconds before I realized that would be way too lenient on everybody. The best way to get them back would be to live my life to the fullest.”
TK stiffened at the admission but relaxed again when he heard the rest of his friend's logic. “I for one am glad that you came to your senses. So where is everybody Jun at least should be home by now.”
“My parents are both away at work and won't be home for several day's; Jun has gone off chasing her boyfriends so she'll be away for the next several days at least.”
“Perfect you can come over and stay with me, my mom has already agreed. This way we can talk some more and you won't get lonely.”
“Okay” Daisuke quickly agreed before walking over to the phone and leaving voice mail messages for both his parents. He then wrote a note saying where he would be and left it weighed down on the counter. He then motioned for Takeru to follow him and headed for his room. Once inside he grabbed an over night bag before asking “so when did they tell you.”
“I meet them coming out of the gym after the basketball meeting, I could tell that they were uncomfortable with something but did not pay it much mind until I realized that they were seriously disgusted by your announcement. I then told them my opinion of you and of them, and that until they grew up and stopped being so self centered they could find somebody else to hang with. Oh yeah then I broke up with Kari.”
Daisuke paused in the middle of putting his school books in his bags and asked softly “you did all that for me?”
TK grinned and shrugged “I was already thinking about it and her bad mouthing you simply let me see just how conceited she has really become, besides I heard from a reliable source that she has been flirting with other guys a lot and has come close to cheating on me several times. I figured it was time to end it before she dragged my name down with hers.”
Daisuke pulled TK into another hug and said “thank you.”
“For what?”
“For believing in me and for being here right now.”
“Yes well, you just remember that when we're facing down the gauntlet at school tomorrow. I'm sure that Miyako and Hikari's gossip line has been running nonstop over your little announcement and knowing the way they feel, they are putting as bad a spin on it as they can.”
“Yeah so much for the digidestined of light and love” Daisuke replied.
~On the walk to TK's house~
“So what was that basketball meeting about anyway?”
“OH YEAH I forgot in all the excitement, next week's game has been moved to our school instead of theirs. It seems that some disgruntled student set fire to their gymnasium. The entire place was burning by the time the fire department got there. They wouldn't have caught the student except somebody recognized her car as it was pulling away. Their team may not even get to finish out the season. It's kind of sad really; someone goes and hurts the entire school just because they're mad at few people.”
“Whoa weird, anyway that just means I can come see you play at one more game this year.”
“Yeah” TK commented looking distracted.
“Take-chan what are you thinking about so hard?”
TK did not reply for a few seconds before answering “I was trying to make up my mind about telling you something that would make you feel a bit better. But it was told to me in confidence, I trust you, but I need your promise not to utter a word of this to anyone.”
Daisuke suddenly looked serious and nodded his head “I promise.”
Tk moved closure towards Daisuke and lowered his voice “okay, here it is, there are actually more gays than straights, amongst the digidestined.”
Daisuke's jaw fell open slightly as his mind raced to figure out who TK was talking about.
“Yeah that was my reaction the first time I heard it too.”
“Well don't just stand there tell me who, come on give me details, please.”
“All right, first off Tai and Izzy are seeing each other…”
“Ha ha ha ha ha you mean to tell me that Kari's own brother is GAY!!!”
“Shush, yes and keep it quiet; there is a good reason for Tai keeping this a secret, his whole family is like Hikari, homophobic all the way. It really sad, Tai has this secret life that he cannot let is family know about because his dad might just get mad enough to kill him; at the very least they would throw him out of the house and disown him.”
“Damn that does suck. I don't think my parent will care one way or the other just so long as I don't besmirch their sterling reputations. That means no sleeping around, no drugs, and make good grades. I do all that and they leave me to live my own life and will fully pay for any college I chose to attend. Not to bad a deal, considering I don't plan on doing anything bad to begin with.”
“Good, I'm glad to hear that; next up is Matt and Jyou. They have actually been dating since they were fourteen but have kept it hushed up because they are afraid of Tai's parents' reaction. They don't want to chance Tai's parents even suspecting any of them; that's why Tai play's soccer so much, his dad seems thinks that anybody who plays sports can't possible be gay.” Both TK and Daisuke rolled their eyes at that idea.
“Sora and Mimi are in a long distance relationship. They have agreed to date other people but they still love each other. Sora is trying to get into the same American university that Mimi is applying for. If they both get in they will try dating each other.”
“Whoa, okay so that's six wait seven counting me, I guess that does make gay's the majority. That means every one of the first digidestined team is gay except you and Kari; wow!”
“Actually there are eight gays amongst the digidestined” TK said with a straight face.
“Really who else?” Daisuke asked.
“There's Tai, Matt, Izzy, Jyou, Sora, Mimi, you Dai-kun, and then there's………. me” TK answered as he opened his front door and pulled the stunned Daisuke inside.
~Later that night just before bedtime~
“Whoa and here I thought I had a stunning revelation today. You topped me big time. So how are we going to handle the sleeping arrangements?”
“Well I figured that we could share my bed.” Seeing Daisuke's expression he clarified “just to sleep, in pajamas. You see when I came out to my mom I promised her I wouldn't have sex until I turned at least sixteen, and I plan on keeping that promise. Anybody I date will have to understand and respect that or we won't be dating long.”
“Okay then” Daisuke said he then grabbed TK's hand and pulled him back into the apartment's living room, he stopped next to Ms. Takashi with a serious expression on his face. She gave Takeru a questioning look to which he shrugged as if saying `don't ask me, I don't know either.'
Daisuke then said “Since my parents aren't here and probably wouldn't care anyway I'll say this in front of you two; Ms. Takashi, Take-chan I too promise not to have sex until I'm at least sixteen years old.”
Ms. Takashi stood up and hugged both boys “I'm proud of you both, it's easy to say okay and go along with everyone else, it's harder to say no, I'm not doing that.”
~Even later that night in bed~
The two boys were spooned together on Takeru's bed. They were almost asleep when TK said “Dai-kun, I…, I think I love you.”
Daisuke pulled even closer to TK and answered “me too Take-chan, aishiteru².”
And with that the two slowly fell asleep, warm and content in each others arms. They would worry about tomorrow in the morning, for now they were happy.
