I am losing my mind. I just have to be.Normally, I am able to handle the taunting of others. Hashem knows that I’ve been taunted and mocked at school due to my protective attitude about Sara. However, now it seems as if my control is almost absolutely gone. Even Sara has commented about my rash temper lately. Maybe it’s this lack of sleep I have been having thanks to the nightmares. Who knows maybe its Baku’s help to counter and control the nightmares that have once again returned? Either way, I am barely able to sleep without Baku ‘eating’ my dreams of that night.Yes, you heard what I said correctly, they are back. The nightmares. The one’s about that Chanukah. It seems ever since I entered into this “Digital World” or was it “Desert of Database?” Whatever. Ever since I entered into this world, and met/fought these odd life forms known as “digimon.” The dreams, or my thoughts about them seem to change from it being a nightmarish dream to a nightmarish reality.Could it really have happened?Twice. Twice, I have asked Baku if a creature that wields a scythe and wears a ragged cloak actually exists in this world. It’s getting on my nerves but he will automatically change the conversation or ends it all together, as if to evade my questions from being answered.Could he have seen into my dream when I let him ‘eat’ said dreams? Is it possible then that he could know the terror from my nightmares? If he does, why won’t he tell me?-Yisrael Dov Levi--------------------------------------------Jihad Diaries: Tales of the Israeli DestinedChapter 6: Enemy----------------------------------------------The sun’s infernal heat seemed to have increased one hundred fold upon the children as day after day passed. What little supplies they had began to dwindle until all that was left was the weird looking fruit that was so oddly shaped and colored no one had tried it and a makeshift canteen of water.Another problem that soon became apparent was the lack of experience to heat that Jason and the Bakumon seemed to have. For instance the Irish boy’s lack of adjustment to desert temperatures had caused him to grow increasingly irritable. He picked fights almost all the time, and wouldn’t seem to listen to reason. This event lasted two sunrises. Reason why only two? He passed out on the second afternoon of being in the desert. As for the Bakumon, they lasted almost to the forth day, something that surprised Sara, and Dov; after all, they expected the fur-elephant like digimon to pass out long before the human parties due to the massive amounts of fur they seemed to wear.To make matters worse, thanks to Sara and they had used almost all the water from the canteens just to cool the boy and digimon down. While it seemed she wanted to prevent them from waking up in much the same condition as a piece of charcoal, it was utterly useless.A lot of good it did them, after all with no shade you might as well be trying to save a book that’s already burning with a glass of water. The effect is that you wasted the water and the book’s text is forever lost to the eyes of man. So, as such, the group no longer had anything to drink. Now it had been only three days since this event occurred. Thus, only one thought was within two semi-awake children’s minds…“Water”****************”Dov, how much further” groaned out the youngest Levi as she trudged along through the sand, or the close substitute they had been crossing over for what seemed an eternity. Her entire body was so covered in sweat that her top layer had begun to stick to her developing body. Thanks to the undershirt however, Sara’s modesty was saved but not by much. She was nibbling on the last piece of fruit that Dov split up between the two. With Jason in tow, Dov and Sara continued to march onward. But as they kept moving Dov was trying not to finish his half of the fruit. The Bakumon twins were each on their respective partner’s back tied using their respective tzi-tzi as a ‘brace.’ This caused both human children to be understandably winded, exhausting them that much quicker.”Just over this next dune, so keep your shirt on!” growled the half-awake boy as he struggled to keep his eyes open and carry the other boy with the aid of his sister.”You said that three dunes ago!” Sara turned her head and shouted at her elder brother. He didn’t look back at her and instead just continued walking.Behind them, Clear Agumon trudging along not effected in the slightest about the heat. However, thanks to the lack of proper nourishment, the transparent dinosaur was only just able to keep up. Thus he was the ‘pack’ horse and held the other belongings that Jeremiah brought with him.*************Not just a few hours later, Dov felt as if some gigantic burden was lifted from his shoulders. Only, he couldn’t seem to pay any mind at all to it. He couldn’t seem to bring the energy to care up to his mind. Then he saw it. Water…A whole lake of it… ”It couldn’t be real,” he reasoned as he inhaled the scent of the liquid element and the smells associated with the said object. However his legs weren’t working as they normally would. In fact, he was using all his will power just to move.”Must go on…”The lake was within reach, his eyes must have played tricks because it seemed there was a forest surrounding the lake, a forest with food? ”My eyes have to be playing tricks on me.” the boy reasoned again as the scent filled his mind.”Must go on…”Now his legs weren’t working at all and he had to resort to crawling.”Must go on…”He reached the lake and leaned over to take a sip of water, only for fate to play around with his life again. He had a mouthful of sand where water should be.His eyes opened widely and he saw the ‘lake’ was merely an illusion.”Who am I kidding… ” With that last thought spoken, he passed out.******************Screams…Demonic red eyes…A bloodied scythe…”Dov…up…”A body falling to the floor…Horror…Fear…Blackness…”Dov, wake [/b] ************The first thing the boy saw when he awoke was the sleeping figure of his partner as well as a pyramid of some strange fruit. He got up from the sleeping ‘arrangement.’ After a few stretches he got to his feet and reached for one of the fruit, an object that looked something like a circle. “This had got to be a dream,” he reasoned as he reached for the ‘round’ fruit expecting it to vanish at any minute, thus making him end up looking stupid. To his surprise the image didn’t vanish, so he picked up the spherical fruit and took a bite, half expecting it to be a rock. But it wasn’t, the fruit tasted like nothing he had ever had before in his life. It was much better than even the special fruit candies he got during Purim. He finished one fruit then moved onto another, one that seemed to be shaped like a rectangle.Once again the taste was ‘excellent,’ as one of his Internet pals from the United States of America would say. He finished that fruit quickly and moved onto another one; this one looked like a triangle. The boy was about to reach for this triangular shaped fruit when he heard snickering behind him. The curly haired boy decided to ignore it.“Are you enjoying yourself Dov?” a sarcastic question came from behind him. This was a voice he recognized. The eldest Levi looked behind him to notice the smirking face of Jason, and the giggling face of his sister. He couldn’t help but blush in embarrassment. After his meal was over everyone had decided to sit in a circle to find out what the others had seen and fill in what the others missed.“So how did we get here? I mean last I remember I was all alone and I had passed out.” As Dov said this as the boy leaned his head over to the side and proceeded to give one sound hit to the other ear that wasn’t pointing to the group as if to hit the sand out. ”Uh, would you believe it if I told you that a little birdie saved us?” replied Sara.“You’re kidding me, right?” he turned his head in the opposite direction and began to repeat the process again.“Well, I wouldn’t say I’m that small, brat.” The elder Levi turned around to stare straight into the cold blue eyes of a pink bird unlike any he had ever seen. Then again, it wasn’t like giant talking birds were common around where he lived. Unlike the unusually pinkish tone that its feathers held, the bird was nearly sixty-one meters tall and wore a shackle on its left foot. For some reason it seemed that this creature was built more like a human than any bird he had ever seen, and despite how odd this creature looked, the Jewish boy felt that is must be the norm for this type of creature in this word or place they were at.“What, you never saw a pink bird before?” The ‘bird’ said while glaring at the now staring, boy.“Uh, only in books at a library.” He stated after a few seconds passed when he was able to gain a semblance of speech and such. The bird then turned about face and began to walk away.“This place is getting weirder by the moment,” thought Dov as he stared at their departing ally.--------Piyomon seemed in quiet contemplation as she nibbled on one of the desert berries of random shapes. ”Talking and dealing with the humans is a job best suited for Sukamon, or Chuumon. They are all the same level of intelligence and…” her musings were interrupted as the youngest child walked up to her.”Excuse me?” Sara’s voice timidly called for her attention. Grudgingly the bird digimon decided to humor the ‘brat’ if only a little while.”What do you want brat?” ”You wouldn’t know where I could take a bath would you?” Her head was bowed down as she asked this trying to hide the embarrassment over her face.”You don’t know where the damn spring is? You watched me take your brother down there and dunk him earlier.” The bird digimon replied incredulously amazed that the stupid human didn’t remember the place even she could find when drunk.”That’s not my brother, that’s our ally. My brother was the one who ate all the food you set out for a while.” Once again the girl’s face turned red in embarrassment, this time for her brother being a pig on the food.”Fine, fine, just get your stuff and I will take you.” The bird seemed increasingly annoyed but relaxed when the girl-child seemed to calm down.”Thanks!” The younger girl replied before running off. She didn’t notice one of the two people watching them grab the other and yank him to another area.------------ Jason stood to the side as he glared in annoyance at the older boy in front of him. He did a mock salute to Dov and stood at an exaggerated ‘at attention’ stance.”What does the leader require of me?” he yelled out doing his best impression of a solider from T.V. when he said ‘leader’ his voice was dripping with acid.”Stop that!” the older boy tried to reason.”Sir, yes sir!” Once again in the ‘solider tone’,“Jeremiah,” The older boy had it.“Did the illustrious leader desire something from my humble self?“ The solider stance changed into a cocky one with his arms folded on his chest.”…Imcallinatruce!” The elder boy all but shouted this to Jason, his face dropping into a reddish hue. ”Huh?””I’m calling a truce!” The Jewish boy’s face deepened in embarrassment. He couldn’t believe he was doing this to the brat who had been leering at his own sister.“Huh?”“Jeremiah, I mean Jason, I’m calling a truce.” The older boy’s tone dropped into his normal soft baritone“Huh, what do you mean by a ‘truce?’” The younger boy’s eyes all but accused the older boy of playing him for a fool.“I don’t trust that Piyomon creature any more then I could toss that tree next to you. So I am calling a truce between us so that we can make sure Sara is safe.” His face was losing its red tone and he looked at Jason in the eyes freaking out the younger boy with his sincerity.“Whoa, you mean? But what about her partner, don’t you trust her?” Now the younger boy’s voice dropped, as he understood just why Dov was talking to him. He didn’t trust the digimon at all.“To be honest, I don’t know who to trust in this world, digimon or otherwise. However, since you’re the closest to being normal I can see, I will trust you. Please don’t make me regret this.” The Jewish boy had all but gotten on his knees and begged. Now Jason felt like he was being a jerk.”Me, guard his sister? Now I know I’m dreaming. What overprotective brother puts an utter stranger in charge of protecting his little sister?” he mentally questioned as he walked toward the bush”Okay, just stand around here and be ready to attack anything approaching I can do that.” With that, he stood back facing the bush in a ‘guarding’ manner, guarding against any unforeseen enemy.Behind him he heard muffled voices, like the high-pitched childish voice of Piyomon and Sara’s soft soprano voice. He quickly hid behind the nearest tree, as the bird digimon seemed to ‘storm’ out of the area through the bushes in a huff. She kept muttering something like “whiny little brat.” As soon as he thought it safe, he got back into guarding the ‘entrance’ to the waterhole. However, once again he had to go hide behind a tree as he heard footsteps approach. This time he heard a slight bit of humming before hearing the bushes rattle as if being shaken slightly. It was only when the sound headed back out did he retreat from the trees only to see Sara’s clothing all of it, thrown on the bush.So he guarded the bush as best he could, until his eyelids felt heavy and his back ached. Interestingly enough, some thoughts of Juliana started to emerge from the back of his mind. He remembered a time where he was placed in a situation similar to this. Then he remembered times other times when she was so gentle as if honestly sorry for her actions only to end up becoming tricked into another humiliating act by her friends. Were they doing this so they could humiliate him? Did he annoy that other kid enough that they conspired to have one of their digimon humiliate him, or were they just going to leave him alone? While his truce with Dov was something that helped relive him of this stress didn’t a wise man say, “Trust no one.” After all who knows if this dream could be a nightmare. He parted the bushes slightly, just in time to see Sara emerging from the water of the closed off lake. His eyes fell upon her young body just in time to see the water flowing down her body in an attempt to escape. He was mesmerized when he saw her body; from the long waterfall of curls no ‘Waves’ of hair going just past her shoulders. Then his gaze traveled down to her budding breasts that now shined the like tanned pieces of a sculpture thanks to her skinny dipping an almost too well placed branch stopped him from seeing any lower then her hips.So hypnotized at what he was seeing, the young Irish boy started to go closer and closer to the small waterhole where the young girl was taking a bath, intent on just touching her all other thoughts forgotten. After all this was all just a dream, he could do anything he wanted, which at the moment was simply hold the lonely looking girl.He was now just about to the edge of the area, and almost to his goal when he slipped and fell from some rock sticking out from underground.“Who’s there?” Sara cried out suddenly.Startled at being found, Jason picked himself up and hid behind the tree again. After all that had to be him whom she heard, so it wouldn’t matter to expose his location.Still every time he closed his eyes he couldn’t help but picture the young girl with no clothing on and inviting him to come to her. Oddly enough, he started to picture Juliana just like he had seen Sara.He snapped out of his daydreams when he heard a cry of pain come from where the youngest of the group was before.”No body hurts my love interest in this dream and gets away with it,” He shouted to no one in particular. Picking himself up, he pulled out his D-3 almost as if on instinct. He wasn’t really surprised that about that time Clear Agumon made himself known by coming outside the bushes right behind him. Ignoring this coincidence, the younger boy picked up a fallen branch near the tree. ”Time to make like a hero!” mused the young boy as he ran to save Sara. ***********************Dov looked at his watch and sighed as he looked over the quiet campground he set up. He was far too drained from the earlier events of the ‘journey’ to do much anything else. It felt as if things were spiraling out of control faster then one of his ‘talks’ with Essau. He pulled out his pocket sketchbook and looked over his drawings. He could imagine the drawings coming to life and finding out this was all a fevered dream he had.”It happened in Alice in Wonderland, and also in Wizard of OZ.” he reasoned mostly to himself. He looked over to his partner, who seemed to be attempting to read his sister’s prayer book.”No white rabbit here, just a dark-brown elephant thing.” He chuckled, almost laughing at how random that statement was. That got him back to thinking of his home.He missed having to worry bout his parents overdoing it with his presents, or having his brother attempt to kill him for snatching some of his chocolate gelt during Chanukah, or the fun of poking fun at his sister when she was forced to wear a Shabbat dress when company came over.He couldn’t even protect his sister, as she now accepted the digimon’s help more than his own. What could he do to help her anymore? Was he that expendable? He was broken from his thought when he could hear a loud scream of pain in the distance. He instantly recognized it.“SARA?!”Ignoring his ailing muscles and overtired state the older boy ran over to where his sister had told him she was going to be: the watering hole. The same watering hole he assigned Jason to guard.”That jackass is going to have some words with me, but first I need to take care of Sara” He thought as he dashed out of the camping site almost forgetting his shoes.”Big brother is coming squirt, hold on!” he cried out as he dashed off to save his sister.********************When Dov arrived at the watering hole, it seemed more like a battleground than anything else. In the distance he could see Clear Agumon fighting against a figure of flame, alongside Jason who seemed to take majority of the damage. However to his mind that was all unimportant, the younger boy wasn’t why he was here. Sara was the one that he needed to find.Nothing else mattered as long as she was safe.Fueled only on adrenaline, the young Levi child ran all over the field attempting to find her, but to no avail. It was almost as if she vanished of the face of this godforsaken world.A sudden thought popped into his mind, one that he never wanted to think about; she could be dead.Instantly his whole body shook with a cold shiver and he shut his eyes to clear the various decaying images of Sara from his mind. He tried shaking it out of his head, even going so far as to slam his head into something just to get the imagery out. When he was thoroughly satisfied the imagery was gone, Dov attempted to find his sister. Although he now moved more like a drunkard then anything else. It was actually thanks to that he found his sister; he stumbled over her sand covered form.Nothing could prepare him for the imagery he got from falling over her. It was enough to give him nightmares almost worse then that Chanukah for year to come. His sister was burnt. badly. She seemed to also have some bruised all over the place. His first thought was disbelief and he attempted to shake her awake. Only to find something that made his stomach twist even more that it had previously. Blood. Sara’s blood. After a bit of searching he found that her back was seriously scratched up as if being dragged along really rocky ground. Also the back of her head was matted in blood as if an open wound was on her head as well.”So much blood…” he mused with a sick fascination for a few seconds before turning his eyes away to gaze at the battle before him. This monster was responsible! He was why Sara was dead!“He will PAY!!![/b]At that point his vision became bathed in crimson red, and his only thought was the death of the bastard who murdered Sara. He charged into battle not knowing or caring that his partner was attempting to join into the battle. Without a moment’s thought, he charged toward his enemy not caring that his opponent seemed to be made of very hot flames. He shoved aside the still fighting Jason and attempted to fight the elemental of fire enemy. However, this was a big downfall to the young Levi as he was ill equipped for this fight. When he sent his fist into the flame creature’s body he retracted it almost by instinct alone. It was almost then that he realized in his rage filled mind that it was impossible to fight something like this monster alone. He ignored this instinct. He was lifted him up by his undershirt, and staring into the soulless almost disappointed eyes of the monster before him.“Pathetic human scum, you should know better than to fight something you could never defeat.”Suddenly, a burning fist crashed into Dov’s face making the boy scream in pain as his head and neck were both violently sent backwards while his face felt like someone had poured acid on it.“Pathetic weakling of a human, it’s a wonder that you are the ones who defeated Lord Apocolymon.” As he said this, the fire creature lifted young ‘Destined’ up a bit higher and retracted his left fist once again before sending it toward the boy. His blazing fist smashed into the human child’s stomach, the very intensity of the fire caused the boy to scream out in pain.Dov, still enraged, was forced to open his mouth and cough out the blood that had filled it; no matter how much he tried he couldn’t force his limbs to work at all. Nothing seemed to respond no matter how much he wanted it to.Now, even staying awake was hard. Where the hell was his digimon anyway? Didn’t it say it would help him when he needed it? 0000000000000000000000Dov’s entire body felt as if it were if it were growing weaker by the second. The sensations seemed to keep on dimming until he could no longer feel any of the pain. Nor could he feel anything else for that matter.Next, the young teen’s eyelids now felt as if they were becoming Atlas, carrying the burden of the heavens. No matter how much he struggled to keep them open, it was all for naught. Within a few moments they closed despite his best efforts. The boy vaguely felt cold breeze of the dusk before smashing painfully into a hard object. Oddly enough he could not feel any pain except the rather weird sensation his body gave him whenever a limb ‘fell-asleep’ He vaguely heard a feminine shout of “Desert Illusion” before everything went dark.---------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Shabbat- the day that g-d rested after creating everything, celebrated as a holiday for people of Jewish faith.
