Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Just Remember ❯ Just Remember ( One-Shot )
"Daisuke?"
A twenty-year old woman knocked on her little brother's bedroom door, in hopes that maybe he would answer. But that didn't seem to be working. "Daisuke? Davis?" She hoped maybe his old nickname would make him say something. Silence.
Sighing, Motamiya Jun turned the knob and cracked the door open slightly. He must not have wanted privacy too bad because his door would be locked in that case. Her fourteen-year-old brother was sitting on his bed, knees drawn up to his chest, staring at the wall. A far-away, hurt look was etched into his dark features and something she hadn't seen in his eyes for a long time was there. Defeat.
"Dais, please talk to me. You've been in your bedroom for seven hours. Don't you think its time to come out?" Jun tried. Daisuke said nothing. Sighing again, Jun walked over to the bed and sat down on what little space there was next to her brother. For the first time, he turned to look at her. The look almost killed her. "Dais, what's wrong."
"Nothing." Barley heard, but still, an answer.
"There is something wrong. Otherwise you would be outside bouncing around or something. What happened?"
"I'm telling you it's nothing." Jun jumped at the snappish tone to his voice. "Just leave me alone. I'm fine."
"Bull." Jun said. "Look at me." When he didn't, she took her hand and turned his face towards hers again.
For brother and sister, the two were sure opposites of one another. Where Jun was light skinned with light red hair, Daisuke was dark, with dark red hair, looking almost dyed. Jun had different crushes every week, planning out weddings, writing names all over stuff. Daisuke got a crush and stuck with it determined that he was going to get the girl. Jun wasn't the athletic type, Daisuke was, and was starting to show it. Really the only common trait the two shared was energy. Both were most of the time full of life, bouncing around and talking non-stop.
They fought like most siblings with a large age difference. Jun remembered when her mother had announced she was pregnant with the boy. Six-year-old Jun was somewhat confused, knowing what that meant, but not really understanding what was going to happen. She really didn't pay attention until her mother's stomach got to big for her to sit on her lap anymore. Jun then wished for the baby to go away. But as soon as the little one was born, Jun felt a big reasonability. She knew that no matter what, she would have to protect this little boy that was now a part of her family. But that didn't stop her from picking on him.
Jun's sisterly instincts were telling her that something was wrong with her baby brother, and by goodness, she was going to find out what that was! Just looking at the tanned boy was enough to tell you that.
"Listen to me. Whatever is bugging you, I'm sure I've been through it and I'll be able to help you."
The young teenager sighed and turned to face his sister. "I made a fool of myself."
Had the boy had not been depressed Jun would have asked him what else was new. But now was not the time for sisterly picking. "What did you do?"
Daisuke looked down for a moment, then back up at his sister. "Okay, there's this girl that I like, or liked. So today during science, I decided I'd ask her out. You know, to the movies, or walking in the park, nothing big, just somewhere where we could talk, you know?" Jun nodded. Girl problems. I should have known.
He continued. "Well, before science started, I came up to her desk and asked if I could talk to her privately. She was with a bunch of other girls, Miyako included, and they all giggled and started whispering in each other's ears. That didn't bug me."
"Doesn't sound to bad so far. What happened next?"
"Well, the girl, Ami is her name, looked up and said `Whatever it is, you can ask it right here in front of everyone.' That should have been my clue to back out, but no, I'm an idiot. So, baka that I am, I asked her right in front of everyone." Daisuke looked away again. "I figured that it wouldn't be any big deal, I mean guys ask girls out all the time, right?" Jun nodded.
"Well not in my case. She cracked up and asked if that was a joke. Then everyone started laughing, save Miyako and Hikari. So for the rest of the day, I got picked on by everybody, except for my friends. Of course, she thought she was better than me."
"Well, her loss." Jun said.
Daisuke glared at her. "I didn't need to hear that. Just because I'm kinda a class clown, doesn't mean I'm not like everyone else in the world. So I don't turn in a few homework papers, and I goof off in class, but if these girl would give me a chance, maybe they'd see the real me." Daisuke stared at the wall again. "Jun, won't anyone ever like me?"
"Daisuke!" Jun cried. "You're fourteen! When you get older, you'll find some girl that you can't live without, that you will love, and she you. Just give it time, otou-chan! Besides, I know a few girls that like you."
"Like who."
"Like Hikari and Miyako."
"They only like me as friends though." Daisuke said.
"But they know you. You're right, nobody except a few of your friends, like Ken and Takeru know who you really are. But if someone isn't willing to know who you really are, then they aren't worth your time."
"You don't understand."
Jun laughed. "You think I don't understand being turned down by somebody? May I remind you of Ishida Yamato?"
Daisuke looked confused. "I thought you guys were friends now."
"You don't think my heart was broken after I found out he was dating Sora?" Jun asked. "But friendship is where everything starts. You cannot be in love with someone without being his or her friend first. Anyway, there are still two more girls that like you."
"Who?"
"Me." Jun said. She then reached over and hugged her little brother. She was surprised when he hugged back. "You don't have to act cool and all to get people to like you. Just act like yourself Dais. Be the clown that you are." She looked down at her little brother and looked him in the eye. "I don't say it very much, but I do love you Daisuke. You're my baby brother, how could I not?"
Daisuke laid his head on her shoulder. "Thanks. Who's the other girl?"
"Can't say."
"Jun!"
"Sorry."
"You're just evil you know that?" Daisuke glared at her. Jun laughed, and then surprised her younger brother by kissing him on the cheek.
"Yes I am." She said. "Always remember that."
For what seemed like the hundredth time that night, Daisuke sighed. "Will I ever know?"
"Yes, she'll come out of the closet someday, she's just really shy at the moment." Jun said. "Scared that the same thing that happened to you will happen to her."
"How do you know all this?" Daisuke asked.
"She came and talked to me." Jun said. "I know her older brother. I baby-sat for her once. Sweet thing. Just really timid."
"Kind of anti-social?" Daisuke asked. Jun nodded, smiling slightly. "The American girl?"
"Her name is Alex." Jun said. "And she's really sweet. Just afraid that she'll get turned down."
"I see…" Daisuke said. "Thanks Jun." He hugged his sister one more time and the jumped off the bed. "You really are good for something, you know?"
Jun stuck her tongue out at him. "Hey, we older sisters know how to comfort hurting baby brothers when needed." She looked at Daisuke, who was now going through all his shirts. "What are you doing?"
"Trying to find something that doesn't make me look like a punk. But I don't seem to have anything besides really baggy jeans."
"Well," Jun said. "Do you like them?"
"Well, yeah." Daisuke said. "I wouldn't wear them if I didn't."
"Then wear those. Alex likes them anyway. The kaki ones." Jun said, pointing to the pair she was talking about. "And that red and white shirt. She likes that too."
"How did you know I was dressing up for her?" Daisuke asked, turning to his sister.
"Because I know you.," she answered. "Once you find out that someone likes you, you take advantage of it. Believe me, it runs in the family. How do you think I got to know Jou anyway?"
"I don't have a clue." Daisuke said, crinkling is forehead in thought. "It still amazes me. How can a hyper-active girl, who loves any guy with a cute face, like a shy, pessimistic boy like Jou?"
"Sounds like yourself you know?" Jun said.
"Yep." Daisuke threw on the clothing that he had picked out. "Looks good. Hey want to come with me to the park?"
"Sure." Jun said. "Alex is there."
"That's my point."
"Hey Alex."
The shy girl looked up as a red-haired boy and his older sister came bouncing across the park. "Hi Daisuke. Jun." She nodded to the older girl. "What's up?"
"Nothing much." Daisuke said. "What about you."
"Writing." Alex said, covering up her notepad. "I like to write."
Daisuke looked at her. "Really? Let me see." When the girl shook her head, he gave her a smile. "I won't make fun of it. I promise."
Alex looked down at the poem she had been writing, then back up at Daisuke. "Okay." She handed it to him.
After a few moments Daisuke looked back up at the brunette. "This is really good." Daisuke told her, handing it back. "Do you write all the time?"
"Whenever I have the chance." She smiled at him. A small smile, but still a smile.
"Hey Daisuke!"
All three turned to see a dark brown-haired girl come walking towards them. Ami. "So." She said, sitting next to Daisuke and laying her head on his shoulder. "What is up with you? And what are you doing here?" She looked in disgust at Alex.
"Alex and I were talking." Daisuke said. "And doing a fine job of it without you hanging around."
Ami looked up. "So, going to be a brat now, huh?" She glared at him. "Like you could ever get anybody."
Choosing to ignore the rude girl, he turned to Alex. "So Alex. Want to go to a movie tonight? Or go to a fast-food place?"
The American girl smiled. "That would be great." She stood up, and took Daisuke's hand. "Come on. Lets go." The two walked off leaving Jun and Ami behind.
Jun turned to Ami and glared at her. "Stay away from my brother, got it?" She then turned and walked home."
A now seventeen-year-old Motamiya Daisuke ran home as fast as his legs would carry him. Running into his apartment and slamming the door behind him, he looked up to see Jun sitting on the couch. "What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I just stopped by for a visit and to tell you Happy Valentines Day." Jun said. She noticed the disgusted look on her brother's face. "What's the matter?"
"If I hear the words love, Valentines Day, and Dai-Dai again, I'm going to scream." The teenager said. "I have done nothing but run for my life from fan-girls all day today. Reika's is getting jealous."
"I'll bet." Jun said. "The girls just don't care if you taken or not, do they?"
"Nope." Daisuke said, sitting next to his sister. "The only box of candies I accepted were from Hikari, Miyako."
"None from Reika?"
"She's going to stop by later." Daisuke said. Reika was his current girlfriend. Alex had moved the previous year. "All the girls were shooting glares at her behind her back. She didn't want to find out what happened if she gave me candy."
Jun laughed. "I agree." She thought for a moment. "That one girl was wrong."
Daisuke looked at her strangely. "What girl?"
"The first girl that turned you down, remember?" Daisuke nodded "Well, she was wrong. You did amount to something. You have fan-girls chasing you!"
"True, true…" Daisuke sighed. " I dread March 14 too. Everyone expects me to give them candy then!"
"Save your money." Jun said. "You've got a lot of girls to please!" Daisuke slapped her playfully on the arm. "Oh don't worry bro, everything's going to be fine. Just remember, you have girls that love you now."
"You, Mom, and Reika right?"
Jun nodded. "Right. Just remember, okay?" And the two siblings sat there, troubles behind them for the moment, until…
The doorbell rang and Daisuke got up to answer it, expecting Reika. What he found was not his girlfriends, but a dozen girls at his door. "Hi Dai-Dai!" a black haired girl squealed.
"Um… Hi Noriko." Daisuke looked over at his sister, `help' clearly on his face.
Jun sighed and decided to rescue her brother. "Hi girls!" Jun said, cheerfully. " I see you're here for my brother." The girls nodded. "Well see, he's not feeling that well at the moment." Daisuke got the hint and tried to look sick. "He's caught this really contagious disease that can sometimes kill you if you get it bad enough. So, unless you all want to die, I suggest that you leave." Jun smirked as the girls turned and looked at each other, nodded, and sulked away.
"You are a life saver." Daisuke said. The doorbell rang again. This time tough, Reika was standing at the door. "Contagious disease, huh?" The three laughed and they invited the girl in.
Okay everyone; before you kill me, March 14 is a holiday in Japan. While Feb 14 is Valentines Day, only the girls give out the candies. On Mar 14 though, it's the guy's turn. No I'm not making it up. Look at holidays in Japan. You'll find it.
