Chapter One

The pedestrian light flashed green, but Rika Nokana pretended that it was still red. She didn't move a step and did not intend to. If she did, she had to cross the road to get to the cheerleading championship, where not wearing a short skirt or shrieking like a sissy was illegal.

“ Sir, I'm not wearing this and never will!” Rika complained to her coach. Her team mates around her started whispering among themselves, with words like “ She got bad taste” and “ Is she lesbian? Cause they don't wear short skirts, you know.”

“ You know, Miss Nokana, you aren't such a vital part of the team,” The coach stated firmly, “ If you want to leave the cheerleaders, please do so, I would thank you greatly for it.”

“ Fine then, goodbye!”

And with that, Rika threw the crumpled uniform in her hand, then proceeded to storming out of the rehearsal hall.

“Rika!” Her best friend and another cheerleader, Jeri, chased after her in an attempt to convince her to change her mind.

“ BAM! “

Suddenly, a deafening sound broke the redhead's thoughts. Apparently, a careless motorcyclist had crashed into an innocent passerby. The motorcyclist immediately got down from his bike, examining the victim he had crashed to. Rika rushed over to help. To her horror, the victim was none other than Jeri.

“ What are you waiting for, Baka?” Rika snapped at the motorcyclist, with a hint of impatient and anger, “ Call the ambulance before its too late!”

He simply gave her a nod, then whipped out his hand phone to call the ambulance, which came not long after. The doctors and nurses hoisted the bleeding profusely Jeri inside using a stretcher after wrapping bandages around her cuts and bruises. Rika, along with the motorcyclist, decided to come along. Both sat at the back of the vehicle where Jeri was placed.

When they started to head for the hospital, the motorcyclist finally took off his helmet. Rika noticed that he was one of the big-egoed basketball player she was supposed to cheer for- Takato Matsuda, that goggle head. If she remembered correctly, he was supposed to compete for the MVP award that time, but no matter.

“ Hey… what happened?” Jeri croaked. She was awake!

“ Oh my god, Jeri, are you alright?” Rika exclaimed worryingly.

“ I'm fine,” Jeri spluttered, then noticed Takato, “ You. You're not supposed to be here. You're supposed to be competing with Daisuke Motomiya for the MVP championship.”

“ That was my plans,” Takato murmured, not looking at the girl.

“ Then go. What are you waiting for? Make us proud,” Jeri advised.

The place fell into silence for a short moment. Should he or should he not? Eventually, he made up his mind.

“ Driver, stop the bus, I'm going off,” Takato announced, then went off without even apologizing.

Once he was out of sight, Rika looked out of the window and mouthed `Asshole.'

The two hour wait for the operation to finish seemed like eternity. Once the doctor stepped out of the room, Rika rushed towards him.

“ Doc, how is she?” Rika asked.

“ Well, her internal organs seems fine, but…” The doctor sighed.

“ But what?” Rika narrowed her eyes, demanding to know.

“ Come with me.”

The doctor led her to a ward, where Jeri lays on a bed dressed in the usual pink uniform outfit. Surprisingly, instead of being overjoyed upon seeing her best friend, the girl's eyes widened in shock.

“ Who are you?”
