The rhythmic ring of the other line stung her ear like knives. She listened intent on having it pick up. However as always she got the sweet voice of the boy she wished so desperately to speak to in person once more, as she had done so many times before.Hey, this is Matt, can't come to the phone right now, please leave a message I'll get back to you soon.

"Matt…" She said gently, she slowly put the small device back on it's holder. Before the soft beep sounded, she never left a message to him. Not now, not ever again, she was just kept in the trance of loss and pain. Passion pink eyes were glazed in her own sorrow as she slowly got up. Before she could react another's hand was placed gently upon her ebon clothed shoulder.

"Sora…" He said softly to her, she knew who it was. But she didn't dare turn around, let him see how hurt she was. "I…It'll be alright, he wouldn't want you this sad, I bet he's even mad at himself for making you this upset."

"I…I know Tai…But he's still gone. He still left me, forever!" She said, her voice barely breaking the saddened whisper.

"It's time to go. Come on…" He said, in the most comforting tone the brunette could muster at this time. "Sora?"

"I'll be outside in a minute, Tai. You go ahead." She said simply. He didn't want to make her more upset than she was so he left reluctantly out the door. Slowly he crept to his car under her watchful eye. As he entered it, she then found comfort enough to head to her room. The soft rays of moonlight hinted her misty blue bed covers, making them almost like the sea itself. "Why did you go?" She asked, fighting back any tears. She never liked crying, but for some reason she couldn't hold back this time. Her protective wall broke. The soft, gentle, happy Sora now cried. She fell to the bed, staring mindlessly out the single window. The light hit the waves of water, lighting them up for all to see. She didn't know why, but she couldn't accept what had happened a night before. What had happened to the Matt everyone knew. He left, he left his friends, he left his life, and he left her behind…

She couldn't set her thoughts away from the horrid past she had to endue. All she thought was him; everything flashing before her sweet angelic eyes was him, and only him. The night black veil she wore, had set itself full out behind her. The soft silk looking like tattered wings, never seeing light again. She looked like a fallen angel, a sad and lonely creature not knowing where to belong anymore. What happened to the independent, the courageous, the youthful Sora? It disappeared along with his spirit we suppose. Her head slowly shifted the tears unwilling to subside. She looked to her nightstand. The picture of a happy girl and boy embedding in her fragile mind. Smiling lovers, oblivious to anyone but them and them alone. They needed no one else, they had each other. All they needed all they needed was each other. Thick lashes blinked back her tears as she pried her shimmering gaze away. A delicate hand swept over the small leather bound book upon her rose pillow. Thin fingers set opened the pages, turning to her side to peak in at the small amount of written paper. Only four months worth was written. Four months worth of her and Matt. Of course the digital world and other things existed in that book, taking up countless pages. But, right now she only saw the ones that mattered. All that mattered was him and her.

Sora here, I have just told Matt today that I love him. I would have never thought the answer. I was so terrified. I loved him so much, but if he didn't care I would have been shattered like pieces of glass upon pavement. It sounds so stupid to take so much time away form life to admire someone. I loved him ever since our meeting at summer camp, the digital world, and much much more. But did he? That's what I needed to find out, diary, I needed to know. I'm sixteen, I'm able to shape my own destiny now and I tried it today. I took the bold step towards him and he didn't lash out. My smile was brighter than the sun itself when he told me the same. Everything would be fine now; I did have to worry over my mother's death anymore. I wasn't alone; I would never be alone with him here, here with me.

"That's not true…I'm alone, my mother, my father, my Matt all gone. Gone from my mortal sight forever…" She sighed, a crystal teardrop falling to the once perfect pages. A hand lifted a small picture strip. One they took at a booth and under was a semi-small picture of them. She couldn't help but smile at how sweet he was on that day. Trying everything to make her happy, she had been in a grumpy mood from a school report but he help her spirits boost. Her eyes skimmed the page as the memories came to life once more.

I hated this stupid report. Who cares about the dumb past anyway?! Why did we have to learn about some princess and her prince. It's not as exciting as a fairy tale, and is too boring to be called one no matter how much it tried to be. I stayed up at least three nights straight trying to find the right information to type it up. I finally couldn't take it anymore; I didn't know what to write about. It should have been easy, we could make up our own story about the two…But I had no inspiration at all. However, today it changed, Matt, he took me to the carnival to set my mind away from this task. I was grateful to get away, and even happier to be with him, by his side. He won a small teddy for me too; it was the best time I ever had. It seems silly, but I think it was. And hey, I finally typed this paper. Sure, it's based on what happened today, with some mid-evil twists and scenery. And I had to change the names, but no one will know but him, and me right?

Matt said something weird today. He told me to drop it because I didn't get it right away. And so I did, but this is what he said: "Ya' know, Sora. When a good spirit leaves a body it becomes a star. A star to protect all those they leave behind. So became the guardian stars." I saw the wry glint in his mysterious cobalt eyes before he talked again. I knew the last he was lying; "We're just learning about myths and stuff in class. I thought it was interesting, I don't know, wanted to share it I guess." I simply smiled and told him it was a lovely myth. It sounded almost believable. I think he brought it up to ease any suffering I still had with my mother's recent passing in June. It's nice to think she became a star, and she's watching over me right now though…

"Did you become a star?" The girl asked softly to the night wind. Her eyes trailing outside to the sky. She gazed at the beautiful night sky, before they wandered back to the pages of the small book. She didn't know how long she sat in her room reading the many pages of their life. Not once had she stumbled on a bad page about Matt. She was never angry with him and he never with her. Some parts of her story she laughed, smiled, or simply stayed silent. This was an exception; she didn't know what to do. Laugh at her ignorance thinking her happiness would last always. Smile at her sad fate, and only knowing it would get worse. Or sit in the silence, letting it engulf her body, mind, and soul until she met him in death.

September 21, 1996…Matt died today. I don't know what to think anymore. He said he'd never go, he would try and help me through anything be there when I needed him. I knew it wasn't his fault. I couldn't blame him for what happened, it couldn't be avoided. Whoever goes by me for too long dies get close and you die. I should be the one to leave this plain. But, guess what? You won't believe what they found in his pocket…A silver ring, a simple sapphire in the middle. I could only guess what he would have said when he came home. What he would have done when I accepted. We would have been so happy if fate hadn't dealt a bad hand. Who would've thought the tough, strong, Matt Ishida would be out done by a simple car crash. I loved him, why did he go?! He left me; forever he left never to come back. Matt…

Her eyes fell blank to the words etched out quickly upon the parchment. The dry stains form long ago still upon the paper. New stains of water being made by the second. In the corner, stapled neatly to the edge was a small plastic bag. Inside the ring that was described. An expert nail ripped the latch, freeing the small object form it's bound. She placed it upon her thin finger, sadly looking at the twinkling treasure. He knew of her liking for blue, her fondness of silvers instead of gold. He was meaning this gift as an engagement ring. A simple gift that would have made her the happiest girl alive in Tokyo. The book closed, for nothing after that day was written. Merely blank white pages that thought would never see the soft indigo hue of a pen. "I…" She stammered, tears clouding her vision.

The shadow crept across the floor as soft footsteps came near to her bed. "Sora, come on…" He stated gently, pulling her from her position.

"T-Tai…" She sobbed freely, head set upon his chest.

"Come on…we have to go…" He said again as she weakly nodded. He held her close for comfort before they reached his car. The two heading for the destination they had planned a few weeks earlier. Her eyes gazed mindlessly out the car window. She looked up at the crescent moon. Eyes sparkling with tears she tried to hold back. Her thoughts wouldn't stray from that book she had read. The memories it casted, the cold ring she now wore. "Sora?" He asked again as the vehicle came to a gentle stop. Without passing him a glance she got out, walking to the area where many more sat. He abruptly followed her lead. The many familiar faces casted aside as she pays no heed as she walked down the isle.

The veil whipping wildly in the breeze now. The angry yet sad breeze that was of night. Her ears pricked with the sound of sobs from behind. Pair of strong around wrapping around her waist for minimal comfort. It was Tai, she wouldn't brush him away, he was the only one she could trust now. She looked sadly down to the pale face in the coffin. Yes, this was Matt's funeral. The date, November 5, 1996. She would never see his gentle smile, the trusting hints his blue hues obtained. The soft laughter he emitted. His arms, his touch, anything, he wouldn't be there anymore. She whispered softly to him, "I love you Matt…I…Miss you so much." A hand brushed aside his satin locks of gold. She looked fondly to his face. The priest was done with prayer and needed to shut the casket for good. One last kiss before you leave me…' She thought sadly, she bended over to kiss his forehead. A hand brushing across his cold cheek before the ebon lid shit forever. He left them into the earth. Tears falling to the cold mahogany, only to roll off as crystal drops shining in the moonlight. He was gone now; she had to accept this. He would never be waiting for her when she got home. Never to come up with a sweet surprise for her when she was sad. Never to touch her when she needed comforting. "Y…You'll watch over me I know it." She whispered to the deathly cold breeze. Her eyes averting to the sky. The brightest star shining above her. A sad, yet hopeful smile gracing her ruby lips. The veil whipping away to show off her natural beauty again. She must live; live again he would want her throwing her life away when he died. She knew that much, and would try and give that much to him. She would meet him in death. There he would be waiting, there with his arms open for her embrace. To touch, to feel, to love again. She would merely wait; she could do it…I know he's watching over me…My Angel, my Matt…
