I don't own Digimon blah blah blah.

Foster Day's

After she was released from the hospital Kari was sent to foster care to await adoption.

Her first home was with a rather ok couple who had a daughter around her age. The

only difference was that she was a stuck up-preppie-bitch who always had something negative to

say about Kari. That was the only time she spoke to her really and Kari was glad that she spent

most of her time with her other goody-two-shoes friends. When Amanda realized Kari was
pregnant the insults became worse and her little groupies joined her in the bashing. The
parents tried, not too hard, to punish Amanda for her rudeness, but they were never successful

and Kari found herself feeling emotions that she'd never felt before. The next home was with a
lady who had a problem with making problems. Every time you looked she was in an argument
with someone. Kari was really embarrassed when she took her out in public with her and ended

up arguing with a movie theater worker or a waiter at a restaurant. She also never paid much attention to Kari's emotional needs. She never took the time to bond and ignored her more than the kids at school; in turn causing Kari to become more and more insecure and antisocial.

The foster parents were more like Rachel when it came to Kari's life at school. They ignored the thing she knew as a living hell. The kids didn't like her at all. She was considered the nerd, the person no one wanted to make friends with or be seen with. The day the teasing got worse she had brought a note from her physician to give to her gym instructor and school nurse. She had the full intention of getting it right into their hands as quickly as she could without letting anyone else see it. Unfortunately a childish girl in her class named Sora Winter had other plans. When she had it in her hands waiting to give it to the teacher Sora snatched it and read it aloud to anyone who was listening. Afterwards they all gave her a dirty look and spread the word throughout the gym class.

“Who'd want to sleep with her?”

“Must be another nerd-”

“Or a blind person.”

The girls in the row next to her snickered at the last girls comment. Gossip flew fast here so Kari was glad when school ended. When she got to her locker she spotted Takeru Soma (this has nothing to do with Fruits Basket!). He was incredibly handsome to more than just Kari, the entire student body, of girls, loved him. Kari often thought about him, but she knew her thoughts would never get him to like her because she was a nobody. She sadly looked away and grabbed her things out of her locker.

Dear Diary

The whole school now knows about my pregnancy thanks to that no good slut Sora. I wish she'd
just leave me the hell alone. I've never done anything to hurt her feelings so I don't understand

why she insists on hurting mine. Everyone at school is so mean to me... well not absolutely
everyone. There are some students who don't bother me. Like the boy I like, Takeru. He's not
mean to me at all, but I don't exist to him. I know he never thinks about me even though we
have two classes together. I really think he's cute and I want to talk to him, but I'm not popular
and he is. If I could have one wish I'd wish for him to fall in love with me. I think I'll name my
baby after him if it's a boy.

“Kari_” The latest `mother' called out. Kari shut her diary and went downstairs.

“Yes ma'am?” Kari sat in a chair at the kitchen table.

“I talked to Mrs. Yoshida today and....” she trailed off.

“yeah?”

“She said, she found a home for your baby.” Rhonda finished.

“Me, too?” Kari asked hopefully.

“No the couple can only afford the baby, or so they say.

“Then we'll be separated...” Kari stated sadly while staring at the floor.

“I think they just don't want a kid your age. A lot of people are like that, they want the younger kids not the older ones.”

“Are you, like that, Rhonda?” A tear fell on the table top as Kari kept looking downwards.

“Kari dear, I only agreed to be a foster parent because I barely have time to be at home. That's why I haven't started a family of my own yet. A young child would be very lonely here where as you can at least take care of some things on your own. I'd go to jail for child neglect otherwise.”

“But, I am lonely, sometimes. I didn't have anyone. Even before my mother left me I was alone, and...and I- I don't have any friends.” Her tears came down harder. “I thought, I'd have my, baby at least, but now.... I won't even have it_” Kari broke down not being able to contain her sorrow.

“I'm sorry hon, but there's nothing I can do about it. The people have already signed the papers, once the nine months are up they get the child. You can't legally take responsibility anyways so think of it as a good thing. It'll get a good home where it can be properly taken care of by a loving couple.”

The crying slowly subsided as Kari wiped her face with the back of her hand. She smiled a little

“Yes something I never had. It'll be good for him or her.”

The rest of the night was silent as neither Rhonda or Kari spoke much.

Everyday after that seemed like a tortuous countdown to her doom. Kari was torn in two about the situation. She wanted her baby to be happy, but she also wanted to raise it herself and give it the love she never received.

“Have you considered taking part in extracurricular activities?” The suit clad lady behind the desk looked at the shy quiet girl across from her.

“No.” The shaking student looked at anything else except her counselor. She didn't understand why she always wanted to talk to her like she had done something wrong.

“Any specific reasons, I mean just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you can't participate with the other kids.”

“I don't want to anymore.” Kari was starting to get angry she didn't want to be there, she was tired, hungry, and swollen almost everywhere possible.

“Well ok, but I must warn you you need some type of extracurricular activity in highschool, sometimes in order to graduate. Colleges now want you to show you've done something, mostly volunteering, before they let you in and jobs also want to see that you've gone above and beyond. So you might as well get into the habit of doing it now so it won't come as a burden to you later.”

`They just don't understand' Kari thought sadly.

“Thanks for the advice, but I really don't care. My life isn't headed much of anywhere anyways so it isn't important to me.”

Kari stared at a pencil on her counselors desk that read `Mistake isn't failure until you've completely given up' and laughed on the inside.

`Failure is what I was meant to be. The mistakes are like bonuses'

“You really feel bad about your mother leaving don't you?” Mrs. Hatori asked sadly. She could clearly see Kari was lost in the drama that was her life.

Kari tensed and lied “no.”

“Some people are good at hiding things, and some are like The Cat in the Hat, they're easy to read. You, Kari dear, are very easy to read. I can tell it's bothering you. Honey if you talk about it you might feel better. I'll set here all day, if that's what it takes to listen to you spill your problems. I'm here to help you so please don't hesitate to tell me how you feel.”

“You can't help unless you can see the future.” Kari got up and gathered her things “I wanna go home now, thanks anyway.” She plastered a fake smile to her face and moved slowly towards the door.

“Kari please promise me something_” Mrs. Hatori called to her and she turned to look despite her feelings to just run away.

“Yeah what?”

“Don't do anything to hurt yourself okay_?” Mrs. Hatori looked pitifully at the girl as if to beg her.

And despite her anger at the statement she smirked and answered not quite confidently “sure ok promise.” She really wasn't sure if she could keep that promise after all.
