Meeting Him
“Ok kids today you'll all be getting new seats for the final quarter!”
There was a series of groans from the seats in front of the teacher.
“But Mrs. K we just switched seats” One person stated.
“Yeah I was just getting used to mines” another one complained.
“Change is good and some of you can't handle sitting near certain people, so you need to move.
Now get a piece of paper, it doesn't need to be big, right your name on it, and place it in the bucket Mimi is coming around with.”
All the students did as they were told and when all the names were collected the teacher began reassigning the seats for her science class.
Kari looked out the window in a daydream. `Change, is it really good?' she thought. `I don't like constantly changing homes; I don't think it's good at all'.
“-and Kari” a voice said.
“Huh!?” Kari looked over at her teacher.
“I said you'll be setting here Miss Kari, next to Takeru.” Mrs. K repeated.
Kari got up and went to her new seat not believing her luck. She got to sit with her secret crush.
“I suggest you get to know your new partner well, you'll be working together for the rest of the year and receiving the same grade. Your first assignment is this project and it's due a week from today, good luck”
“What're you doing after school today?” Takeru asked his partner.
“N-nothing why?” She responded shyly.
“We can work on the project now so we'll be done early. That ok with you?”
“Yes that's fine.” she continued looking downwards while blushing `he's really nice'.
“Does it hurt?” she heard him say and looked up into his beautiful eyes. They captured her like a fair maiden in a fairy tale.
“What, hurt?” she was a little out of it.
“Your stomach, it looks a little painful. How does it feel to be carrying an extra person?” his smile melted her heart and she couldn't help, but smile.
“It's not too bad. Honestly my bookbag was heavier.”
“That's good, they shouldn't make you, or any girl for that matter, carry so much weight. You really do look better when your posture is straight.”
Kari felt so happy that someone was actually showing concern for her. She was able to make it through the rest of the day and the horrible, snotty, jealous girls with his smile and sweet words.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey bitch, don't try to get all cozy with Takeru just because he's your partner” A girl
and her friends approached Kari after school. The one in her face obviously wasn't
happy about the news that the school whore/nerd had become her boyfriends science
partner. She was determined to put what she saw as, `the trash', in its place before
she made a grab at her man or get suspended trying.
Kari would normally just look away and not say a word to prevent any further problems, but she felt stronger today. Something or perhaps someone had made her feel like she could fight back, like she didn't have to be afraid of other people her age. So she took the chance to let the uptight girlfriend know she wasn't something to walk on.
“I don't recall having to ask permission to know someone, let alone your permission” She said coldly.
Needless to say it took them all by surprise. Kari was known to be the person you could
endlessly pick on and she wouldn't raise one finger in protest or go crying to a teacher.
“Don't get smart with me just because you're pregnant bitch I'll kick your fat ass if you touch my Takeru” The girl spat back and Kari was starting to get irritated with not only her use of names, but also her perfume.
“A person isn't an object of ownership. If you truly loved him you wouldn't be so
possessive and jealous.” Kari felt somewhat like a hypocrite. She herself was jealous
of the people with good homes, nice parents, and someone to call best friend.
Instead of taking the good advice offered to her Takeru's snotty girlfriend slapped Kari into her locker. “I've got nothing to be jealous of whore” She stomped away with her friends giggling behind her.
After recovering from the shock of the slap Kari began the hard task of trying to pick up
the stuff she had dropped. It didn't help when people walking by stepped on it or
kicked it out of her reach. She knew if she didn't hurry she'd miss her bus and the
confidence she felt a moment ago began to wash away being replaced with frustration
and anger. Just when she was on the verge of tears a form bent down next to her and
began helping her gather her things. She thought things couldn't get any weirder when
a kid handed her some things that were kicked down the hall.
“These are yours right?” he asked.
Kari nodded “yes, thank you”.
“Don't mention it. Those girls are really mean to gang up on you like that, you're ok right?”
The girl helped Kari to her feet and the three of them walked together to the bus.
“Thank you so much for your help....”
“Yolie, my name is Yolie!” the girl said happily.
“And my name is Cody” the boy spoke up.
“Nice to meet you Cody and Yolie, my name is Kari Warren.”
When they got on the bus they found seats together.
“So how does a nice girl like you manage to get on the bad side of Queen I'm-better-than-everyone-else?” Yolie asked Kari. (Of course everyone is on her bad side she's a total BITCH)
“I think it had something to do with Takeru Soma. She's jealous I'm his partner in science.” Kari said sadly.
“Oh....yeah, she get's really pissed when another girl talks to him.”
“She needs to get into reality; there are other girls in the world besides her.” Cody said shaking his head.
“Who do you have for science?” Yolie changed the subject.
“Mrs. K” Kari replied.
“For real? We do too. 1st and 2nd periods!” Yolie said excitedly
“Did she give you that project?” Kari asked.
“Yeah me-“
“Hey I was looking all over for you Kari!” Takeru interrupted Yolie. “Can I sit here?” he
pointed next to Kari and she was no longer sure if she wanted to get close to him
anymore.
“What's wrong?” Takeru asked.
“What's wrong is that you're number one fan was picking on her after school today!” Yolie said angrily.
“Who? Oh no was it Michelle?!” Takeru sat down next to Kari as the bus driver was yelling that he wanted to leave.
“Ding ding lets give the man a prize!” Yolie said sarcastically.
“I'm so very sorry Kari. I'll talk to her immediately!”
Kari looked out the window at the passing houses and trees while the other three kids looked at her.
“What's wrong with her?” Takeru whispered to Yolie and Cody.
“She's known to be extremely quiet and shy.” Cody informed Takeru, who never really knew all
the school gossip since he was busy with basketball.
“It's either that or she likes you!” Yolie commented softly and then went into a panic. “Or she
could be in labor!”
Takeru looked back at the quiet girl at his side and found her shyness to actually be cute. He had
never noticed how beautiful she was and being pregnant just added to her god like glow.
The bulge in her midsection moved in and out as she breathed and Takeru was compelled
beyond reason to touch it. When she felt the hand on her body she looked at Takeru confused.
“I'm sorry I just wanted to feel. I've always wondered what a pregnant womans stomach feels
like since my mom got pregnant a long time ago. How far along are you?” Takeru asked still
rubbing her softly.
Blushing beet red Kari answered “f-five and a half m-months.” Suddenly the baby started to kick
at Takeru's hand and Kari winced in pain.
“I'm sorry did it do that because of me?!” Takeru said removing his hand.
“No he's just hungry!” Kari smiled.
“It's a boy?” Takeru asked.
“I'd really like it to be!” Kari replied happily.
“What's the name if it is a boy?” Yolie asked from her seat right across from them.
Kari looked down at her hands “If I were keeping it I'd name him-” She paused still blushing
feverously. “Takeru Ryan” she finished still looking down.
“That's so cute!” Yolie squealed.
“Sure is.” Takeru agreed
“But why aren't you keeping him?” Cody asked curiously.
Kari hesitated to answer this kid she had just met. Should she be telling them her business?
`What if they're just pretending to be nice and turn on me tomorrow?' Kari couldn't help but ask
herself. She wasn't used to putting any trust into people she'd known for only forty-five
minutes.
Takeru and Yolie, being the oldest, sensed Kari was uncomfortable with the question.
“It's ok Kari.” Yolie said smiling.
“You don't have to tell us anything if you don't want to.” Takeru finished for her.
Kari felt so relieved. It seemed they understood her after all and she smiled happily at what she
dared to call her new friends.
