Numb Hearts

Chapter Four

Lee looked hopefully around the art class hoping to see Ryo but no such luck. He sighed and sat next to Takato. The door opened one moment later and the teacher walked in, she looked very agitated. She walked to her desk took her spiral note book staring at it. All the students waited intently for her to start the routine of enrollment hoping that none of them where in trouble. The teacher finally sighed removed her glass' from her nose staring at everyone.

"I have very aggravating news," She announce, "Ryo's in the hospital and we need to show him our support by making him a huge get well banner."

"What happened?" Lee asked.

"That's not important right now. The most important thing right now is that we show our support."

"Yea, but it's important to me!"

"Lee, calm down. We can see him after school, okay?" Takato assured him putting his hand on his shoulder.

The half Chinese boy sighed angrily looking down. He just sat there staring that the table; he scooted away from the table and ran out of the room. The teacher called after and soon Takato was out of the room too running after Lee but the other boy was all ready on his bike on his way to the hospital. Takato just stood there out of breath watching the other boy disappear down the street.

Why did he all of a sudden feel jealous? He did lie to Lee last night when he said that he never fallen in love before he did and it was Lee. He always wanted to know what it was like to be kissed, to be loved. Takato did kiss Lee on the cheek before he fell asleep last night.

I know that he likes Ryo it's obvious but why do I have this feeling about Ryo too. When he touched me I was scared but he had warms hands. By now Takato wanted to scream and yell. He was so confused about his feeling that he didn't know what to do. Part of him wanted to him to take Lee's hand and tell him how he felt, another part of him wanted to go to Ryo and feel his body next to him.

Lee got to the information both and asked for Ryo. The lady picked the phone up and asked if patient 1462 were okay of letting people seeing him. She nodded her head, put the phone down looked at Lee saying that it was okay and someone was going to come down and show him where Ryo's room is.

"Lee, wait!"

It was Takato running up, he stopped slumped to ketch his breath. After one moment he was ready to follow Lee to Ryo. Once they got to the second floor, they walked down a long hallway to one room in the corner. The nurse slowly turned the knob motioning for the two boys to be quiet. She opened the door carefully, they both held their breaths. The room was cascaded in a soft shadow, dim low lights were casting a warm yet serious atmosphere around the place, the walls were lined in a blue very plain pastel wallpaper and the place was filled with all sorts of medical equipment.

Lee slowly walked up as Takato staid in the back letting the other boy do what he needed to do. Lee walked over, slowly, cautiously, to his bed. He was so shocked to see the other boy in such a state. There where many IV's in his right arm, pumping in blood, and the Naizle Canula that was pined to his nose that seemed to help him breathe. Ryo seemed to be already dressed in hospital clothes and he was attached to a heart monitor that kept his rhythmic heartbeat...

Ryo's heartbeat...

He listened to the steady beat; it soon became unise with his own. Lee wince when he glanced more over his body, their were many scars covering his lightly tanned body and new wounds that had been wrapped up. Some of the blood had been seeping through the bandages; he had one around his head even. Takato finally walked up as he bit the bottom of his lip when Ryo opened his eyes with a gasp. The nurse quickly walked saying very softly that some of these kids wanted to see him, the boy calmed down with a half smile.

"What happened?" Lee asked.

"He ... he raped me ...."

"Who?" Both boys demanded.

"If you keep shouting I'm going to have to remove both of you." The nurse warned.

"My cousin Erik .... he ...."

"Shh," the nurse responded pulling the covers to his neck, "your parents have been notified and ...."

"What? You told them? Great! Now they'll think that I'm faking so that I don't have to stay at my cousins!"

The nurse sighed walked out closing the door behind her softly, none of them didn't like the vibes she gave out.

"Ryo, why didn't you tell us?"

"That's right. We where willing to help you."

"Feeling sorry is more like it." Ryo responded coldly.

"Why do you hate me so much? What did I do to make you hate me?"

Tears started to come down Ryo's cheeks apologizing over and over for what he did. Both boys didn't know what to do. They never saw another boy sob before and there hearts where starting to become crushed by what they saw. Takato can tell that Lee more flushed now than when they came in. He walked up behind the depressed boy saying that they should go, that's when the door opened two adults came in. They looked very agitated. Takato led him out closing the door behind them looking at the other boy in the eyes.

"Come on, I'll walk you home." Takato offered.

They both started down the hallway in silence. Takato could feel Lee was very angry. He stole a glance to see the that the other boy had slammed his left hand in his pocket. He couldn't help but want to hold his hand, he slowly inched closer taking his hand. Lee turned his head to see Takato giving him a weak smile. He turned his head looking at the pattern on the floor not sure how to feel or say; he was so angry that he wanted to kick or punch something. Takato could feel the boys grip tighten on his hand; he could also see anger and sadness.

"I know you feel Lee ...."

"This is so frustrating!" the dark haired boy said angrily kicking the wall with his foot. "Why didn't he tell us?"

"Please, calm down, Lee," Takato stepping in front of the other boy putting his hands on his shoulders.

"I'm sorry. I just don't understand why people don't trust me ...."

Takato can see the hurt in Lee's eyes, without even realizing it; Takato pulled the other into a hug. He feels so warm, Lee thought and I feel safe.

"It's strange isn't it?"

"What's strange?" Takato asked half day dreaming.

"Boys aren't' suppose to hug boys."

"Is there a crime hugging you?" Takato asked in teasing voice still holding the other boy close.

"No but ...."

"Good. Because there's something I need to tell you."
