Princeling
Part 7
"Daisuke!!"
That was all the warning he got before several pounds of energetic blue
Digimon barreled into him at high speed. Daisuke 'whuffed' and fell on
his butt.
"Uh... Hey, Chibi..."
A low-pitched, rumbling laugh came from one of the stalls, and one of
the few unspiraled Airdramon looked out. "Such incredible grace. You
astound me, my prince."
"Yeah, yeah, let's all laugh at Daisuke... Push off," Daisuke snapped.
The Airdramon dipped its head formally and disappeared back into its
stall. Chibimon blinked up at Daisuke.
"Prince? You're a prince now? Aren't princes supposed to wear crowns?"
"I'm not a prince, Chibimon. They just call me that. I NEVER should've
brought the book here..."
"Oh well, whatever... Daisuke, I'm so happy to see you! I missed you!"
"...I missed you, too, buddy. Guess I've gotten into the habit of making
dumb mistakes, huh?"
"I'd say you've gotten into the habit of running yourself down, too," Ken
said softly as he walked over and offered Daisuke a hand up. Daisuke took
Ken's hand, but avoided his eyes.
"Yeah, well, it's hard to keep a good self-image when you're surrounded
by people telling you you're dirt."
Ken gave a sharp tug, bringing Daisuke to his feet. Then he yanked again,
pulling the surprised Daisuke into his arms. "That's over now. Now you're
surrounded by people who really care about you, the REAL you. And I don't
ever want to hear you insulting yourself again."
"Yeah! You tell him, Ken!" Chibimon yelled enthusiastically. Daisuke shot
the little Digimon a mild glare.
"Aren't you supposed to be on MY side?"
"I am," Chibimon answered, grinning. "I'm on the side that likes you, and
thinks you're smart and terrific and great. The side that doesn't can go
get eaten by a Tyrannomon, because that side is Takeru's side, and it's a
dumb side."
Daisuke sweatdropped, looking down at his Digimon. "That was very mixed
up, Chibi... I think I get the idea, though."
"So do I. And I agree with him. So... Stop beating yourself up."
"Or WE'LL beat you up!" Chibimon chimed in, bouncing up and down. Daisuke
rolled his eyes.
"YOU'RE gonna beat me up, you little blue fuzzball? You're nothing but
an overgrown dust bunny."
Chibimon squawked indignantly, attempting to glare at his partner. It didn't
really come off, he was too cute to glare properly. Everyone turned to the
door as Elecmon walked in and cleared his throat.
"Dinner's ready. Are you going to come eat, or should I toss it out?"
"We'll come eat, Elecmon, don't you DARE throw our dinner out," Daisuke
said, disentangling himself from Ken and picking Chibimon up.
"Hey, hold on! Daisuke! Make me Veemon! I wanna be Veemon!"
"Yeesh, okay, okay..." Daisuke replied, putting him down again. He tugged
his D3 out and held it out. Chibimon digivolved up to Veemon and grinned,
flexing his tiny muscles.
"Yeah! Nobody's gonna call me a dust bunny now!"
Wormmon walked past all of them, heading over to Elecmon. "Just go,
they'll follow as soon as they realize we're not waiting for them."
Elecmon grinned and nodded, turning and walking out the door. Ken laughed
softly and hurried after him and Wormmon. Daisuke and Veemon blinked, then
yelled in unison.
"Hey! Wait for us!"
Daisuke and Veemon chased after the others, catching up quickly. Daisuke
fell into step next to Ken, and Veemon wandered up to stand next to Wormmon.
"So, what are we having? And if it's salad again, I'm going to throw that
RedVeggiemon in charge into the Dokugumon pit," Daisuke said peevishly.
"I caught them in time, it's not salad," Elecmon replied calmly, though
the other three looked startled at the threat. "We're having soup and
egg rolls."
"...Elecmon, I don't LIKE egg rolls."
"You can't eat nothing but junk food. Egg rolls are good for you."
"But I don't LIKE them. You KNOW I don't like them."
Elecmon smirked. "Yes, I do know that. Which is why we're also having
teriyaki."
"WHY do you have this deep-seated need to bait me?" Daisuke snapped.
Elecmon chuckled.
"It keeps you from getting above yourself."
"Oh for... Elecmon, I am the ruler of something like a third of the
Digital World! I think I'm entitled to a little bit of respect!"
"You get plenty of respect from the other Digimon. What you get from
me is much more important. You get a check on your ego."
Daisuke growled and started muttering under his breath. None of the
others could make out what he was saying, and had a sneaking suspicion
they didn't want to know. Elecmon shoved open the door to the dining
room and walked in, followed by the other four. Veemon's eyes went
wide.
"Wow... This is really big..."
"I'll say this for the Kaizer," Daisuke quipped, grinning. "When he
did something, he went all out. Let's eat."
They all settled themselves at the table, which was already set, with
a bowl of steaming soup at each place. The teriyaki was in a large platter
easily reachable by everyone. The Digimon and Daisuke dived in right away,
eating with enthusiasm. Ken rolled his eyes and began to eat his soup at
a slower pace.
"How do you even taste your food, eating like that?"
Daisuke swallowed to clear his mouth. "Ah, Ken-chan, I taste it! It just
tastes so good I want more right away."
The three Digimon made various sounds of agreement, still shoveling it
down. Daisuke gave Ken a quick grin and went back to his own food. Ken
looked at the ceiling with a sigh.
"I get the feeling I'm not going to win this one... Oh well, the food IS
good..." Ken shrugged in resignation and went back to eating, still a
good bit slower and more polite than the others. "I'll have to call Mom
soon to let her know I won't be home tonight..."
"Got a spec'l phone, hooked t'the real world," Daisuke told him, words
a little slurred from the food in his mouth. "S'in the control room,
letcha use it lat'r..."
"Arigato."
"No prob."
After that, conversation pretty much halted until everyone finished
eating. Daisuke pushed back from the table and stood up.
"C'mon, Ken, I'll take you to the control room so you can use the phone."
Ken nodded and stood up himself. Daisuke glanced at Elecmon. "Why don't
you give Veemon and Wormmon the grand tour? Let everybody know they've
got free run, aside from the dangerous areas, of course."
Elecmon nodded and gestured to the two Digimon to follow him. "Try
not to get into TOO much trouble without me, your Kaizerness."
"Knock it off!" Daisuke yelled, glaring at Elecmon as the little Digimon
skittered out quickly with Veemon and Wormmon right behind him. "I AM
going to get him to stop calling me that someday..."
Ken chuckled as he followed the angrily stalking Daisuke through the
halls. "How long have you been trying?"
"TOO long..." Daisuke muttered, taking a sharp left and placing his
hand on a small pad. He stood aside as the door slid open, gesturing
for Ken to precede him. "Well, this is it. Like what I've done with the
place?"
"It...doesn't look very different... Aside from the chair, that is."
The hard rock throne Ken had sat on in his days as the Kaizer was gone,
replaced by a much more comfortable looking swivel chair. "You spin on
that thing, don't you? When you get bored."
Daisuke turned faintly red. "Only sometimes... There's the phone."
Ken glanced over where Daisuke was pointing, then walked over and picked
up the phone. "Arigato, Dai-chan. I shouldn't take too long. Mama likes
you, she won't mind me staying with you. And she doesn't know your number,
so she won't try calling your parents."
"Okay, go ahead. I need to check on some things, anyway," Daisuke said,
settling into his chair. "Screen activate."
Ken dialed his home number, ignoring the quiet verbal commands Daisuke
was giving the computer. After a few rings, his mother picked up.
"Hi, Mama. It's Ken... Yeah, I know it's a little late, that's why I'm
calling... I already ate, don't worry... I'm going to stay the night
with Daisuke, okay? ...Yeah, I know it's sudden, but something came up...
Thanks, Mama... I'll be fine, really... Yes, I've got clothes... Good
night, Mama, I'll see you tomorrow."
Ken hung up the phone and turned around. "It's all settled."
"Good," Daisuke said distractedly, his eyes on a side-screen. "Damn...
A Monochromon's gone psycho in sector B34. I gotta go, Ken, I'll be
back later."
"Alright... Be careful, okay?"
"I will. Hold on a sec... Computer, full authorization voice print,
record now. Ken, say something."
"Hello, my name is Ichijouji Ken," Ken said calmly.
"Voice print recorded, full authorization," a mechanical voice declared.
Daisuke smiled at Ken as he headed for the door.
"It'll answer to your voice now. If you're really worried, you can keep
an eye on me. Elecmon should be by in a little bit, he'll show you how
to get back to your room from here."
"Alright. Goodbye, Dai-chan."
"Bye, Ken-chan," Daisuke replied, walking out. Ken sighed as the door
closed behind him, then settled into the swivel chair. It was alot more
comfortable than his old throne.
"Full explanation of emergency situation in B34," Ken commanded.

Teena: Okay, after this, we're leaving Ken and Dai for at least one
chapter. The next chapter is gonna be the 'Destined meeting. With luck,
the older group is going to give the younger kids a serious bawling
out. Especially Takeru and Hikari, since they should KNOW how important
it is for the Digidestined to be a team.
Ken: I hope Daisuke's okay...
Teena: He'll be fine, it's just a Monochromon...
