Teena: *falls over* At last! I finished the next part! Go me...

Ken: *dryly* Yes, you finished the next part of the fic you're NOT getting
nagged about.

Teena: ...Inspiration comes when it comes. I'm being mildly stuck with
Spellbound. Part nine, and they're long parts, too... I think this thing
is in danger of becoming an epic...

Ken: *shrugs* You tend towards complicated plots, it makes fics long.

Teena: I guess... Oi, where's Taichi and Yamato?

Ken: ...Plotting, apparently. I'm not sure I want to know what about.

Princeling
Part 9

"Dai-chan, I've been thinking. Why don't you come back to the real world?
During the day, at least."

"You're kidding, right? It should be obvious," Daisuke replied incredulously.
Ken shook his head.

"I'm serious. You can't complain about lost conquering time, you don't have
to fight the Digidestined for new territory."

"True, but in case you forgot, I share most of my classes with members of
the brat pack. There's no way in hell I'm going back to that."

"In case YOU forgot," Ken replied, smirking, "You've got a standing offer
from my school, whenever you want to accept it."

Daisuke's eyes widened, and he smacked himself on the forehead. "Why
didn't I think of that? You really ARE a genius, Ken-chan!"

"Did you ever doubt it?" Ken asked with a faint smile. Daisuke laughed
and shook his head.

"Not even for a second. Got a present for you," Daisuke said, switching
subjects with a sly grin. Ken blinked.

"Really? What is it?"

Daisuke gestured to a shelf jutting out from one wall. "Go find out."

Ken walked over to the shelf and eyed the flat box warily. The cat-that
-got-the-canary grin Daisuke had made him a little nervous.

"Go on, it won't bite you," Daisuke urged, still grinning. Ken reached
over and opened the box, gasping a bit as he saw the contents. Slowly,
he reached into the box and took hold of the coiled black whip, pulling
it out.

"I told you I'd get you a new one," Daisuke chirped brightly. Ken's
mildly stunned expression gave way to a faint smirk as he headed back
over.

"So you did. And I seem to recall some interesting plans for when you
did."

With no more warning than that, Ken's arm swung forward, the whip
flashing out to wrap around Daisuke and the back of his chair, effectively
binding him. Daisuke smiled slyly, winking at Ken.

"Looks like you've got me right where you want me. Now what are you gonna
do?"

"Oh, I'm sure I'll think of something," Ken purred, settling onto Daisuke's
lap. "After all, I AM a genius."

Daisuke chuckled and opened his mouth to reply, only to be rather pleasantly
diverted as Ken took advantage of the situation, leaning forward to kiss him
deeply. Both boys got into it very quickly. Unfortunately, they were also
interrupted very quickly when Daisuke's computer began to beep. Ken and
Daisuke pulled apart and cursed in unison.

"Calling this bad timing would be the understatement of the century,"
Daisuke grumbled quietly.

"Millenium," Ken corrected, frowning as he got up and unwrapped Daisuke.
"What is it?"

Daisuke shifted his attention to the screen, quickly locating the reason
for the alarm. There on the screen, blinking quietly, were the symbols
of courage and friendship.

"Tai and Yama? What the hell are they doing here?" Daisuke said quizzically.
Ken shrugged as he coiled his new whip and snapped the belt loop around it.

"Why don't we go ask them and find out?"

"Has anyone ever told you that you have a knack for the obvious?" Daisuke
asked dryly as he stood up. Ken just wrinkled his nose at the other boy
and walked out. Daisuke laughed and followed him.

"Should we go get Veemon and Wormmon before heading out? Veemon'd probably
like to see Tai and Yama again, and you know how Wormmon gets when you
leave without telling him."

"He just worries," Ken murmured defensively. "We should get them. We
really haven't been spending enough time with them lately."

Daisuke wrapped his arms around Ken from behind, kissing his neck
lightly. "New couples are like that, Ken-chan. They understand."

Ken sighed and leaned back against Daisuke, resting his hands lightly
over the ones around his waist. "I know, Dai-chan. But this is a good
chance to spend a little time with them. They'd probably enjoy a chance
to get out of the base, too."

"Yeah, they have been a little cooped up. Well, as cooped up as you can
get in a place this big. We'll go get them, then head down to the stables
for an Airdramon."

"Airdramon road trip! Yeah!" Veemon yelled, barrelling along the corridor
towards them. Wormmon and Elecmon were following at a more sedate pace,
chatting quietly. Daisuke sweatdropped, letting go of Ken to put his
fists on his hips.

"You've got my control room bugged, don't you?"

"Who, me?" Elecmon looked up to reply, grinning wickedly. Daisuke threw
his hands up in the air.

"Why do I bother?"

"I really have no idea," Elecmon told him, voice serious but still grinning.
"One of the spiraled Airdramon is waiting. I would've gotten a free one,
but I get the feeling you don't want the Digidestined to know that you
aren't an evil tyrant with delusions of godhood. Oh wait..."

"Don't EVEN say it, Elecmon," Daisuke snapped.

"Of course not, your Kaizership. I would never even think such a thing,"
Elecmon quipped. "I'll go down to the stables with you."

"Whatever," Daisuke muttered, turning sharply and heading off down the
hall, cape swirling dramatically. Ken chuckled and followed with the
Digimon.

"What do you and Wormmon talk about?" Ken asked curiously. Elecmon gave
a small shrug.

"This and that. Mostly our experiences as chief stewards for people
who think the household chores magically take care of themselves."

Ken blushed. "I don't-"

"You used to," Wormmon interrupted, sing-songing the words. Usually
talking about the Kaizer made the little bug cringe, but now he seemed
strangely comfortable. "Overworked and underappreciated."

"At least yours got over it," Elecmon said, wrinkling his nose. "I have
my doubts about mine."

"It's... it's... DISLOYAL for me to listen to this," Veemon declared
shakily, holding back laughter. "Daisuke's great! So I'm gonna go walk
with him now."

The three left laughed as Veemon hurried to catch up to Daisuke. Ken
tilted his head and smiled at Elecmon.

"I'll tell you a secret. He's not really that clueless. He knows how
much work you do, but he also knows you can handle it. He just likes
to act totally oblivious when you complain."

"Well, he's very good at it," Elecmon grumped. Ken sighed faintly.

"He's had alot of practice, I'm afraid."

"The Digidestined? I've noticed he's very bitter about them," Elecmon
said, sounding concerned. "That could lead to something unfortunate."

"This whole thing could lead to something unfortunate, Elecmon," Ken
said soberly. "From the stories the older kids have told us, the 'destined
HAVE to be a team. If not, sooner or later, we lose. With the two of us
splitting off, there's no telling what will happen. I wouldn't be at all
surprised if the others were already falling apart."

"And Arukenimon and Mummymon are still out there somewhere," Wormmon added
quietly. Ken nodded quietly and reached down to pick up his partner,
hugging him like a child with a stuffed animal.

"And Daisuke has standing orders out that all spires are to be destroyed.
She won't be happy about that."

"Even if she finds the base, Daisuke has powerful Digimon in his service,"
Elecmon said softly. "They'll fight for him, with everything they have. I
would never say it to his face, but he IS a good ruler, for the most part.
Besides, Arukenimon and Mummymon are on his bad side, and that's not a
good place to be."

"I suppose that's a very good point," Ken replied thoughtfully. "Daisuke
is a bad person to cross, even though it doesn't seem that way most of
the time."

"Speaking of which, are we sure Daisuke's not going to do something to
Taichi and Yamato?" Wormmon asked worriedly. Ken shook his head.

"No, Taichi and Yamato haven't hurt him. They've always been very close,
actually. There's nothing to worry about."

Daisuke leaned back through the stable door, looking faintly irritated.
"Geez, how slow can you guys walk? Hurry up!"

"Don't rush us, Daisuke, we're coming," Ken called, rolling his eyes.
Daisuke shot him a wicked grin.

"Not yet, you're not... After we handle this little interruption..."

"DAISUKE!" Ken yelped, blushing. Daisuke laughed and ducked back inside.
Elecmon fluffed his tail and shook his head.

"Listening to him, you'd never think he was capable of responsibly running
an empire."

"Daisuke's always been a mass of contradictions. Personally, I think it's
charming," Ken replied. "When he's not embarrassing me, anyway."

"Charming... Right," Elecmon said dryly as they walked into the stables.
Daisuke was already settled cross-legged on the head of a spiraled Airdramon,
Veemon standing next to him.

"Took you long enough. C'mon, Ken-chan!"

"I'm on my way, show some patience," Ken chided gently, walking over and
putting Wormmon in Daisuke's lap, then jumping up to settle next to him.

"Any last minute instructions, ideas, or generalized insanity?" Elecmon
asked. Daisuke shook his head.

"Standard stuff, you know the drill. We'll be back when we're back. Oh,
make sure nothing nasty gets near Taichi and Yamato, I don't think their
partners are with them."

"Right, nothing nasty gets near them except you," Elecmon said, smirking.
Daisuke sighed.

"I guess I asked for that one... See you later, Elecmon."

Elecmon nodded and walked back out. Daisuke reached down to tap the
huge head he was sitting on. "Okay, let's go. Sector L-19."

"As you command, Master," Airdramon rumbled softly, lifting into the
air. Daisuke leaned back, using one hand to support himself. The other
hand idly began to pet Wormmon. The little bug sighed and relaxed,
blinking up at Daisuke and Ken.

"How far away are Taichi and Yamato?"

"Not far, actually, especially by Airdramon," Daisuke replied. "Oh,
by the way, I'd kinda like to make the big dramatic evil villain
entrance again, so could you guys kinda cooperate? Y'know, you two
acting meek, timid, and frightened, and Ken-chan, you in one of your
best Kaizer 'I'm evil and sexy, and I know it' poses."

"Why?" Ken, Wormmon, and Veemon asked in unison. Daisuke shrugged,
a mildly nasty grin creeping across his face.

"Just for the hell of it. Come on, don't you guys wanna see their faces?
I'm sure they know I haven't REALLY gone off the deep end, but let's
give that certainty a quick shake-down, hmmmmm?"

Ken hesitated. "I don't know... It seems kind of... I don't know...
Nasty, I guess."

"Oh, completely and utterly so. But fun," Daisuke shot back. Ken looked
down at the Digimon with a questioning look. Wormmon and Veemon exchanged
glances, then shrugged up at Ken, indicating their willingness to play
along. Ken smiled at Daisuke.

"I guess we're doing it. But I don't do Kaizer anymore, how do you
feel about 'evil overlord's beloved consort'?"

"Works for me," Daisuke replied, grinning. "We're almost there, let's
get set. You two, towards the back and cowering, please."

Wormmon and Veemon moved, clustering together at the back of the
Airdramon's head. Wormmon crouched down and gave a very good imitation
of cowering in fear. Veemon tried, but he didn't have prior experience,
and he was also fighting not to laugh. The little blue Digimon shared
a fair measure of his partner's twisted sense of humor, and he was really
looking forward to seeing Taichi and Yamato's expressions. Daisuke stood
up and adjusted his outfit, then stared down at Veemon.

"...Veemon... You're supposed to look scared, not amused."

"Sorry, Daisuke, I can't help it!" Veemon replied, eyes wide with mirth
and protest. Daisuke reached down and smacked him on top of the head.
As the little Digimon winced, Daisuke patted him.

"Hold that face. It's close enough."

"Okay," Veemon replied, scrunching his face back into the mildly pained
expression. Wormmon laughed and gave Veemon some quiet advice on how to
cringe well. After a little fumbling, the two managed a decent tableau
of fearful cowering. Daisuke gave them a quick thumbs up before drawing
himself up into a suitably imperial pose, fixing a look of chilly disdain
on his face. Ken shifted to stand behind him, wrapping his arms around
Daisuke's shoulders. After some mild internal debate, his face settled
into an expression of smug satisfaction and cool, sensual enjoyment.

"You do a good courtesan impression, Ken-chan," Daisuke murmured. Ken
just chuckled quietly in response.

"Master, the two you seek are just ahead," Airdramon rumbled softly.
Daisuke tapped his foot lightly, signaling it to go down. As they caught
sight of the two older Digidestined, Daisuke spoke, pitching his voice
to carry.

"My, what have we here? A couple of intruders in my garden?"

"OUR garden, koi," Ken corrected, also pitching his voice to carry. Taichi
and Yamato spun to face them, surprised expressions on both their faces.

Teena: *skimming through her notes* Okay... Next chapter... Back up a
little and switch focus to see what Taichi and Yamato were doing while
they tried to find Dai... Presumably carrying on through the actual meeting
and conversation...

Ken: *frowning at the last bit* Isn't that alot like what I said early
on, just after the new Digidestined arrived?

Teena: Yes, and it's deliberate, too. Remember, Daisuke is TRYING to
shake them up.
