I don't own digimon. That honor belongs to Toei and Bandai.
We left Gennai's place as soon as Taichi finished explaining about the tattoo's on the siblings arms and everyone had their crests injected, digivices and some fake tags and crests. We tried saying goodbye to our younger counter parts, but they were depressed by the fact that they had to sit by and be saved. It wasn't something any of us were used to, but us oldest six had had to go through it before too during Ken's reign of terror in the Digital World. The younger six came along and saved us with out us getting in the way, but it was something we hated to see.
I looked down at my new digivice and the fake crest around my neck. These were the most important things to us at the moment. The crest threw the Masters off, making them thing this was the source of our power. They would chase after the fakes and never realize about the real ones. It being there also had a calming effect on me, even if the necklace now meant nothing. It would probably always be that way and I doubt that I was the only one to feel this way. Everyone around me seemed to be playing with them, even Ken. I guess they were kind of like our version of security blankets.
The digivice, another one of our security blankets, was different, it was still important and in a whole different way. If I didn't have it on me Biyomon wouldn't be able to digivolve and I'd be worthless. The small device, which I could only properly describe as roughly the shape of a Chevrolet symbol, but round on the top and bottom, was the single most important thing that any one of us had on us. Gennai said that he had altered our digivices, but I couldn't figure out where he had done it. The only difference was in the screen. It was now in color and looked more like a cell phone screen than our old black and white ones. They had a few new features, everything a D3 had, with the added bonus of being able to talk to each other through them and no doubt some other mysterious and helpful things we hadn't figured out yet.
"A penny for your thoughts?" a half ladybug, half machine digimon asked me while flying right next to my head. Tentomon was Koushiro's maroon and silver spotted digimon. He was sweet and very technologically inclined, just like his partner.
"I was just thinking about our new digivices," I said. He looked at the small white device in my hand.
"Aren't they amazing? Although you can't see it Gennai installed all sorts of upgrades. In addition to the color screen and D3 upgrades there's that speaker phone..." I tuned the buzzing little digimon out. It was that he wasn't interesting it's just that I had other things that were more important to think about, such as my crush on not one, but two different chosen. It was throwing me for a loop. It didn't help that the one I liked most was taken, but it still left the other one, the one who's digimon was flying next to me, telling me about digivice version 2.0. "... And they have Snake on them. I only wish I could play it. I guess I'll have to stick to it on Koushiro's computer."
I heard laughing beside me and turned to see my pink bird digimon, Biyomon laughing her ass off.
"What are you laughing at? You can't play it either. You don't have fingers," I told her.
She looked up at me, still laughing, "Have you ever seen me play Snake? It's not really my type of game, Sora."
I shrugged, although I didn't agree. I hadn't ever actually caught her playing Snake, but when I got my first phone it was one of three games on it, and the most interesting. I got all of the chosen and their digimon addicted to the game, except Biyomon, at least as far as everyone else could tell. On the other hand that phone did come up missing an awful lot...
"So, where exactly are we headed?" I inquired of Taichi, who was still our leader, even six years later.
"To the lake where we spent our first night. It's close to the water, which is his domain. It's also where we saw Seadramon the first time. It's seems like a good place to start,” he replied. All of us nodded. We trusted Tai completely. He had made his mistakes, but he had also gotten us out of trouble more times than we could count.
Everyone was quiet now, too concentrated on the task at hand. I wasn't going to complain, it gave me time to think about what was going on. I had just left the school gym from our pep talk when the message came through. I sprinted back to the computer lab, where everyone else from the high school and our two special varsity player were beginning to congregate. I was the last person to make it there; everyone else had kept their D Terminals on them, but a message interrupting Coach Shizuka's pep lectures would cost me thirty laps, fifty sit ups and one hundred pushups. I wasn't taking that chance.
No one asked any questions or anything, they just opened up the portal and shoved me through it. I landed in a lump on the sand by Gennai's house. I stood up and brushed myself off, then glared at Matt, the one who had pushed me into the portal, “You could have waited a few more seconds. You didn't have to force me through.”
“You could have gotten there when you received the message like the rest of us, not ten minutes later,” he shot back.
“I put my D terminal in my locker. Coach Shizuka would have killed me if it went off while she was speaking. How the hell was I supposed to know that there was going to be an emergency? I haven't heard from Gennai in months other than the occasional digijoke. The chance of something coming up was very slim,” I snarled back.
“Matt, Sora, cool it. You should have kept her D terminal on you and you shouldn't have pushed her through. We don't have time to be fighting like this, we need to get down to Gennai's place,” Taichi said, a sense of urgency in his voice. I was wondering if he could possibly have more information than we did. Regardless, he was right and we all took off towards the water. There was a break, just wide enough for our digimon and us to run through. The path closed behind us, blocking us in and I noticed a pack of Seahomon attacking the house in the center. Luckily they didn't notice us. We burst through the door to Gennai's place, almost hitting our younger counter parts.
“Whoa, watch it Matt. I kind of want to live to hear what Gennai has to say,” Takeru said to his older brother with a smile. Next to him was his girlfriend, Kari, giving her own brother a razzing over almost knocking her over. The children of light and hope made an amazingly cute couple and everyone had been expecting them to get together long before they did. I mean, Angemon and Angewoman? How could that not be a sign? Then there was how they were the only two under ten in the original chosen and were the siblings of the alpha males of the group. They were destined to be together and everyone knew it, even if some of us (Dai) didn't want to believe it.
The two older boys completely ignored their siblings, Taichi blurting out, "Gennai, what the fuck is going on here? Why the hell are Seahomon attacking your house? And why the hell did you call all twelve of us here?"
Yeah, what the fuck, Gennai? Why didn't you just call us new chosen? We can take care of these beasts outside your house," Dai told him, half angered.
Gennai told us to sit down and after that my memory goes hazy everything happened so fast. The Digital World was in trouble once again. We were getting our crest back via injections through our arms. Miyako wasn't going to give up her digieggs. Finally she did and we're all taken away to the youngers' room and find our packs. Mimi, Kari and I got injected with our crests as Gatomon spills the beans about the Yagami's tattoos. After going through all of that we finally get out the door and to where we are now, the middle of no fucking where. Not that I can complain. I have an amazingly hot single chosen to stare at. I also have my Ipod nano to listen to, but for some reason my mind keeps straying back to one person. The chosen I can't have. The one I have a bigger crush on and the one it took me longer to come to terms with, well except maybe my Taichi and Yamato, but I was young and naive. I probably didn't even know what gay meant at that point, let alone realize that our big haired leader and the soon to be rock god were that way. Or, at least that's what my gaydar screams every time they come in the room. Technically they've never told me, but the way they look at each other like they want to rip the others pants off and the insane connection they share, having whole conversations with their eyes. Then there's the way Kari acts when they're around each other. She makes fun of his about it terribly, but she's very subtle.  No one else has noticed yet. I think they're still waiting for Taichi and me to get together.
"How far is it to that Chosen Lake exactly, Tai?" Jyou asked, breaking my thoughts on the sexuality of our leader and his best Friend.
"I have no idea," he replied, looking at Kou.
The smaller boy nodded and looked down at his digivice. After hitting a few buttons on it he told us, "Roughly Thirty kilometers. We aren't going to make it until at least tomorrow with how late it already is. I suggest that we make a camp in an hour or two. We want to be well rested when we go up against him."
I gave the computer geek a small smile and a wink. He noticed them and his face turned as red as his hair as he quickly looked away.
We walked on for another hour before we saw a forest. Another hour and we were in the thick of it. We decided to take our chances with MechaSeadramon. It was doubtful that this was one of his forests, seeing as there was no air of despair in the place. We found a stream and pulled out our
sleeping bags, then arranged them in a circle. I was next to Kari and Takeru and Mimi and Jyou, something I was not particularly happy about, not that I got much choice. We went by guards nine chosen for the nine hours of sleep we only hoped we were going to be getting. It never really did work that way though. We were always woken up in the middle of the night for some reason, a Seadramon attacking or Devimon sending us flying in beds, hoping to keep us from digivolving and quite probably even destroy us through his black gears. Fortunately we were stronger than his enslaved minions and we had begun to trust one another. When we made it back together we were stronger than when we were when he split us apart, but not nearly as strong as when we left here. Nothing could break us up now. We were bonded even better than the new kids, that was for sure. They're good kids and all, but they could always leave the Digital World and take a walk, do some homework, etc. We were stuck here, fighting off enemies, not sleeping, not eating and to top it all off by the end of our journey we had two eight year old kids we had to be responsible for when we were barely old enough to be responsible for ourselves. We did all of this while trying to save two worlds. I honestly have no idea how we did it. I have no idea how we didn't break under the pressure or how we didn't get killed, but we managed and it made us like soldiers coming back from the war, we were bonded by tragedy and combat.
When we came back from the Digital World the first time we all had shell shock. None of us would sleep more than three hours at a time. We ate food like there was no tomorrow, including Mimi, who was always watching her weight, we were paranoid about anything and everything, grabbing our digivices at the slightest movement. We all started to hole up in the house, afraid of what going out without our digimon protectors. We sat on our computers and wrote emails to one another and hoping that somehow we'd hear from our partner's, with no luck. There was a lot of crying and denial, not that any of the boys except Takeru and Taichi will admit it. Eventually our parents began throwing us outside and not letting us come back in for hours. Kou was the only exception to this rule, seeing as him being inside on the computer wasn't a change in behavior. Instead the rest of us got him out of the house and by the time school start we had returned to something closer to normal. Something that our digimon could be proud of.
As I was thinking about all of this I searched for firewood. Biyomon helped me out, by carrying the firewood back in her beak when my arms started to get full. Although we had never technically been far away from the Digital World, it was nice to be back. It was probably more of the fact that we were back in a way that we hadn't been since we left on the tram that made the difference. We were back in the Digital World full time. We were kicking ass and taking names, as Coach would say. I could feel the battle looming on the horizon. This was what we had lived for the month or two we were here the first time. There was constant fighting, no time to breathe, let alone have a personal moment, then, all of the sudden, it was over. The World was saved and no one cared about attacking a bunch of snot nosed kids. As soon as we got over our paranoia and depression, we were bored, and not just by our history lesson. We all threw ourselves into something, Jyou worked twice as hard at school (if that was even possible), Mimi threw herself into American culture, Matt threw himself into music, Tai into soccer, Kou into his computer, Kari into photography and Takeru into Kari, the protection of her that is. That left me. I didn't exactly have anything to throw myself into. Sure, I had tennis and later soccer that I had to prepare for, but it didn't work as a distraction. I can run and think at the same time, which I often do. Eventually I found something that I could immerse myself in, gardening. To most people it doesn't seem like something that could be a distraction, but it is. I have to find pots and soil and seeds. From there you have to sow the seeds and care for them, loving and nurturing them. I now plan on going to college for Nursery Operations and was hoping to own my own nursery some day.
I heard Kari yelling that dinner was done, which interrupted my thoughts. Biyomon took some of the wood I had in my arms and I took the rest in.
"Want to race?" she asked playfully. I grinned and her and took off, leaving her behind me. She yelled something incoherent behind me and I laughed. She finally flew back into the camp a full thirty seconds after me huffing and puffing. My heart rate was barely even up.
"You... cheated..." she said between gasps of breath.
"Sure Biyomon. That's why you're the one out of breath and I could still run a kilometer or so without a problem." She grumbled and flew off to go eat with the others. I jogged after her to where the others were having fish with a side of cooked fruit salad. Anytime there was a chance at a hot meal everything was hot. You never knew the next time you were going to get that chance.
As soon as dinner was over with we turned to drying out some extra fish we had caught for later. We cut the fish into strips and set it on a rock near the fire, where the heat would slowly roast out the water. We put some sliced bananas and pears next to them to make some sort of trail mix. It wouldn't taste very good, but it would have protein, potassium and other nutrients that would keep us running if we ran out of fresh food. With all of our digimon and nine chosen we had quite a bit we had to make, but it was a simple and fairly enjoyable task for us to do before we went to bed. As soon as there was enough food for everyone being dried Yamato pulled out his harmonica and began to play. He didn't have a specific song in mind, but with his talent as a songwriter he managed to make it up as it went along. It was more of a ballad than anything else. You could here great wonders and victories as well as terrible losses and times of depression. Then there was the part of loneliness. That was the worst part, but the song went back to the wonder and finally to happiness, where it ended. I looked around to see if anyone else had seemed to notice what Matt's ballad was about. Most of the rest of us had turned in and of the five of us who hadn't only three of us seemed to know, Matt, Kari and I. There was one of us who was oblivious, Mimi and one of us who had a general idea what the song was about, but didn't have any  idea that it was about Yamato and, in a way, him. I could see that he felt the same as the Yamato in the ballad, but neither of them realized the other's feelings. I sighed and slipped into my sleeping bag. I was only awake a few minutes before sleep took over.
---
I woke up a few hours later to relieve Jyou and Gomamon from sentry. Biyomon got up with me and we went to sit in front of the fire. I was starting to get hungry again and in a pink flash Biyomon brought me a fish.  I thanked her and cooked it up with a few of the pears and bananas that we hadn't put in the trail mix. We ate it slowly, chatting about our lives. We normally saw each other a few times a week, but there was always something to talk about.
After an hour or so we lapsed into a comfortable silence. I lay back and listened to the night while I stared at the stars. I was careful not to let myself get too tired as I pondered the universe, the heavens and how both of my worlds fit together. It was then that I heard the noise. I shot up and looked around. There was a light swishing by the stream. Biyomon was already heading towards the sound. I started after her.
"Biyomon, digivolve, quickly," I whispered. She did so and the fiery Birdramon appeared.  I quickly hopped up on to her back and we flew off in search of the noise. I quickly sent a message to Matt, Mimi and Kari, the three most likely to wake up, asking them to be on the lookout while I investigated. I got a reply back from Kari a minute later saying that the three of them and their digimon were awake if anything were to happen. I shoved the D-Terminal back into my pocket, glad I didn't have to worry about it anymore and began scanning the coastline. About a quarter kilometer from camp we finally saw what we were looking for, MarineDevimon coming prowling for us, no doubt hoping to catch us unawares.
I pulled the D-Terminal back out and sent out a new message to Kari. MarineDevimon. You and Matt come as back up, leave Mimi as guard. Come as Ultimates. I hit send as Birdramon found a place to land. Eventually she decided to put me in a tree and digivolve midair while I climbed down. This was when the other two showed up with MetalGreymon and Tai.
"What are you doing here?" I asked as our digimon took off to fight the enemy.
"I sensed a fight. Do you really think Augumon and I would have missed out on it? The fearless leader?" he said with a grin. That was Taichi. He could sleep through anything, so long as he considered sleep more important. It's probably why he had the most tardies out of anyone in the school until the coach threatened to kick him off of the team in middle school. He hasn't been late since. Nothing is more important than soccer or digimon and not in any given order.
"I guess you wouldn't Tai. Let's go kick some ass." We looked towards our digimon and I looked to see what they doing. Angewoman was unleashing a white Celestial Arrow while Weregarurumon let loose a garuru kick, both of which MarineDevimon deflected easily. Garudamon let out a wicked Phoenix Claw, which was sent right back at her, knocking her down.
"Taichi," Yamato said, "We need to digivolve them. Now." Only thirty seconds in to the battle and he already knew that they needed to up their digimon's strength. They were this tune with their digimon that they could know that fast. Yet again, maybe we could too if we had another stage, or if we had for more than a few hours.
"Right," Taichi agreed, automatically dedigivolving him to Augumon. Finally we got to see a warp digivolution again. Digivolving was always cool to watch, a digimon glowing, then shifting shape? What could be more amazing to see? Warp digivolving on the other hand had a spark of something else. The digimon quickly morphed from one form to another within seconds. It was, without a doubt, the coolest thing I had ever seen. It was even cooler than Jogress, which was a close second.
MetalGarurumon and WarGreymon appeared before us and quickly began attacking their foe. The attacks of Nova Blast and Metal Wolf Claw quickly began to wear him down and Garudomon and Angewomon's attacks were actually beginning to hit the ultimate digimon. Still it wasn't enough. He was sending back attacks at an alarming rate and hitting our digimon with deadly accuracy.
"Get the others out here," Kari growled through gritted teeth. I quickly obliged sending a message to Mimi.
It seemed to be aeons before the other chosen to get down there. MagnaAngemon, Zudomon, Lilymon, Megakabuterimon and Stingmon appeared, moving towards us as quickly as they possibly could. They paused for a second to put down their respective chosen and headed off towards the fight.
"What's attacking us?" Ken asked. He was used to the Digital World, but only the hours of it he chose. He didn't get woken up in the middle of the night to fight MarineDevimon. That had always been the job of us older kids. Unfortunately for him, he was one of us now.
Mimi told him before I could speak, "MarineDevimon, but no more questions. Our digimon need us and yours is only a champion."
He nodded and we took off after our partners. We were doing better than before, but we still weren't doing great. Megakabuterimon had just taken a pretty foul blow to the chest and had hit Garudomon and Stingmon, sending them all flying, but Metalgarurumon and MagnaAngemon managed to synchronize their attacks against him, making them entirely more effective. We couldn't get too close to the fight for fear of getting killed or injured, but we had to be close so they could digivolve and to give them more eyes.
"Synchronize your attacks," Kou yelled, "It does exponentially more damage and ensures a hit."
It took a second for our digimon to process and another for them to make sure they were going to attack at the same time. That gave Ken the time to turn white as a sheet and yell, "NO! DON'T KILL HIM! HE'S GOT A GEAR IN HIS BACK!"
The rest of us turned just as white as he did. I heard Taichi yell fuck as both him and Ken took off in the direction of MarineDevimon. The rest of us took off after them, but Kari, Takeru, Mimi, Jyou, Koushiro and I stopped short when we saw the beam of light come streaming from Ken's wrist. Yamato pounced on top of Taichi, causing him to fall, but none of the rest of us were paying attention to that, Stingmon was digivolving. He began to glow and change shape. The whole sky was lit up. As soon as the beam hit him he seemed to explode into a new digimon, oddly enough, a cross between a Stingmon and a XVmon. Most of its features represented the former, with two blue hind legs representing the latter. Seeing his new digimon partner Ken stopped, completely enthralled with the presence.
Kou broke our concentration by yanking out his laptop. He was curious as to who the new digimon was. His hands flew across the computer as he continued watching the fight.
"Dinobeemon" the computer said, then was drown out by Dinobeemon's roar. The noise was enough to surprise his fellow digimon. He lunged toward MarineDevimon, snatching the digimon out of the middle of the attack and to the safety of the sideline where he proceeded to rip the gear out of the digimon's back. He threw it up into the air where it turned back into data, disappearing to wherever destroyed data goes. We all began running again as MarineDevimon started waking up. He took one look at us and freaked out.
"I am MarineDevimon, but I am nothing like Lord NeoDevimon,” he said, speaking almost too fast for us to understand, “Although I am a virus type digimon I try to keep to myself. I'm just trying to live, I don't want to cause problems for anyone.” He was extremely nervous, but who wouldn't bee with all of the ultimate and mega digimon around him. What he didn't seem to notice is that at the mention of NeoDevimon we all became just as nervous.
"N... NNeoDevimon?" Jyou stammered out. He swallowed noticeably, not that it was unusual for him. On the other hand Taichi did the same and that was highly unusual.
"Yes," the digimon said mournfully, "NeoDevimon came in with the Dark Masters as MechaSeadramon's underling. He's been capturing people in these parts with gears. We all run when we see them headed towards us, but we just aren't fast enough. We've tried to get the gears out of our friends, but they've seemed to grow so much stronger that we can't even touch them.” As MarineDevimon spoke we all stole a look at Takeru. He had a brave face on, but we knew that wasn't how he was feeling. He had both an immense fear and hatred for Devimon, the digimon whom Angemon had sacrificed himself to kill.  It had scarred him pretty badly to the point where he still had nightmares even though Patamon was with him if what Matt said was true.
"What level is NeoDevimon at?" he asked, a look of sheer anger and hatred on his face. It was one of the scariest things I had ever seen personally.
"He's an ultimate level digimon, but don't let that fool you. He's got the strength of an mega." All of us groaned. An ultimate would be easy, a mega not so much. We weren't strong enough with how long it had been since we had been ultimates and megas.
"Could you give us an estimation of how many digimon have been infected?" Kou asked hopefully.
"I'm sorry. I really wish I could, but I can't. I have no idea." We asked MarineAngemon a few more questions, but there wasn't any more information he could provide us. We kindly said goodbye to the digimon, the first decent Devimon we'd ever met. We too left, walking back to camp with our digimon in tow, our happiness at being back in the Digital World already overshadowed by the realization we were going to see enemies we never thought we'd see again.

A/n: Thanks for reading again. Sorry this took so long to get up. I just started college and it's not very easy, but I'm doing pretty decently. I kind of afraid this fandom is dying out, so please, start writing more fiction people! Anyways, I hope you like the chapter. Review if you'd like. It still makes me write faster- Dephs
