Disclaimer: I don’t own digimon and I’m not making any money off of this. I’m just having fun.
“I thought I could trust the three of you not to go outside alone and to keep yourselves safe. I thought that you knew better than to put yourselves in danger. At the very least I expected you to take a digimon with you. I didn’t think that I was going to have to spell out the rules for you, but I guess I will. One, don’t go out of this house without your digimon. Two, don’t go out of the house unless its an emergency. Three, keep yourselves safe. I know its hard for you not to be out there fighting, but if your friends are worried about you getting hurt pulling these stunts than they may make mistakes.” Gennai had been lecturing us for twenty minutes, since we had gotten back to his house. Daisuke was still asleep in our room, exhausted from having run so hard. He had managed not to hurt himself, but he would be asleep for a while. Miyako was standing next to me, looking ashamed about what had happened. I felt no shame at all. As a matter of fact, I was pissed off. I hadn’t done anything but save their asses after they got attacked and I was getting lectured while Daisuke got to take a nap. Up until I got a message from Miyako I had been learning how to play a game with Hawkmon, Vmon and Armadillomon.
“Excuse me, Gennai?” Miyako spoke, still beet red and looking at the floor, “None of this is Iori’s fault. He shouldn’t have to listen to it. He only came out to save us. Vmon said something to me and I over-reacted and ran outside on my own. Dai felt the need to fix it because it was his digimon that had said something. If I hadn’t run off Dai wouldn’t have been out there and Iori wouldn’t have had to come and save us.”
I was a little surprised that Miyako had spoken up. Normally if she had to be in trouble she was going to take all of us down with her.
Gennai looked at her for a minute, trying to assess if she was telling the truth. After a minute he sighed. “I know that you guys are going to fight and want to get away from each other when it happens, but its just not safe. If I had a way to let you, I would, but for now you just need to stay here. Why don’t you two go get some rest? I’m sure you’re exhausted after today.”
With that we were dismissed and Gennai walked away. Miyako and Hawkmon made a bee-line for the room and Armadillomon made a move to follow, but didn’t when he realized I wasn’t following.
“Iori, are you coming? We should probably get some rest like Gennai said.”
“No, I’m going to stay out here for a while. I need some time alone to think.” Armadillomon nodded. He knew exactly what it was that I needed the time to think about. It was what all three of us had to think about. We had been the ones who fought for so long, and now we were basically worthless. We were jammed inside this tiny house waiting to be saved while all of our friends were out there kicking ass and taking names. We were fighters. We didn’t take well to sitting back and letting everyone else take care of us, especially not in the Digital World, our domain.
I walked to the front door, completely ignoring what Gennai had said about taking our digimon with us. If I still had my digieggs than this wouldn’t be a problem, Armadillomon and I would just go for a swim, but seeing as that was no longer an option I silently opened the door and walked out. I closed the door without making a noise, then ran as fast as I could towards the surface, not wanting anyone to realize I was gone.
When I reached the edge of the lake the gap in the water closed behind me and I breathed a sigh of relief. Armadillomon had probably already gone to sleep, assuming that I was still in the house, and when Miyako saw Armadillomon then she would assume that I was there with him. Gennai probably wouldn’t even check on us.
I stripped off my clothes and folded them into a neat pile, then jumped into the water. It was cold, but that didn’t matter to me. I need something to numb my brain, and seeing as there was no dojo around, ice cold skinny dipping would be the next best thing. I took off doing short even strokes, letting my mind wander to the various things that were bothering it. Mainly it was t fact that I had to sit here and play princess, but there were some other things going on too, like how Ojiichan happened to be getting sick more and more frequently and ‘Kaasan had gotten a job because of it. I had tried to see if there was something that I could do, but they had told me that it was just a cold/the flu/allergies and that there was no problem and that ‘Kaasan was tired of not working. They pretended that money wasn’t tight and that There were no problems, making me feel just as helpless back in the real world as I did here in the Digital World.
Then there was the battle this evening. For only being a champion Vermilimon was a difficult digimon to beat. If Dai hadn’t worn him out some before we had gotten there we might not have beat him, but after a few minutes one of our attacks hit him hard enough to knock a gear out of his back. After that the Vermilimon looked around and ran away, not giving us the chance to speak to him.
My strokes increased in speed and before I knew it, it was time for me to start heading back to the shore and in to the room. If I stayed out too long someone would miss me and then I’d have to get another lecture from Gennai, even if this one would actually be deserved.
I pulled my clothes back on, shivering now that I was out of the water. As I swam it had seemed to get warmer, but the air against my bare skin was no where near warm. I let out an involuntary shiver as I pulled my shirt on. The first item of business when I got back was to take a hot shower, then go to sleep. I was exhausted.
I pulled my digivice out of my pocket and pointed it at the lake. It parted ways and I ran towards the door, hoping no one got the idea to peak out a window. I hit the door in near record time and opened it a crack to see if anyone was nearby. Seeing no one I walked in, shutting it behind me, then headed for the room. I was safe.
When I entered I noticed Miyako and Dai sitting the speaking softly. Dai was still in his sleeping bag and Miyako was sitting next to him, checking to make sure he was all right.
“Hey Iori, where have you been?” Dai asked, glancing over at me.
“I’ve just been sitting in the living room thinking,” I replied, hoping I was a good enough liar.
“And its suddenly filled with water? ‘Cause your hair is soaked.” I blushed and he grinned. They had caught me. Chances were that they weren’t going to tell Gennai though. They weren’t going to stay cooped up in here either.
“I couldn’t let you guys have all the fun and I already got the lecture, so I went for a swim.”
Dai put on a mock pained face, “You went skinny dipping and you didn’t even invite me? I’m hurt Iori, I’m really hurt.”
I rolled my eyes. “How exactly was I supposed to ask you? You were passed out.”
“Hey, what about me? I would have liked to go skinny dipping.” Both of turned to look at Miyako. I was wide eyed and Dai was bright red. “God you two are pervs, and it seems as though you may just be sexist too, thinking a woman wouldn’t want to go skinny dipping.”
Dai opened his mouth, but couldn’t say anything, so I did, “I thought that you wouldn’t want to, seeing as you have a boyfriend and everything…”
“Well, you thought wrong, Iori. I’d love to go skinny dipping.”
“I guess you two can come next time then,” I said, “But for now I need a shower. That water’s cold.” From the look of things Dai could use some cold water. There was a noticeable tent in his pants, not that I was looking for it. He had just tried to hide it, rather unsuccessfully, with his hand. I tried not to laugh as I grabbed a pair of pajamas and clean underwear out of my bag, then headed straight to the shower where I collapsed in to fits of giggles at my friends discomfort. Dai was a little too horny for his own good. Miyako would never cheat on Ken. Looked like it was going to be a few fun weeks between him and his hand.
---
I left the shower feeling warmer and even more sleepy. Dai and Miyako had gone back to sleep, Miyako curled up next to the boy. It was a weird sight to behold with what I had noticed earlier, but Vmon and Hawkmon were sleeping between them. It was a purely platonic sleeping arrangement, plus Miyako had probably put Dai in some sort of protector role now, seeing as he’d almost gotten himself killed protecting her. I shrugged and walked over to my corner of the room, where I had set up camp for the time being. Armadillomon was curled up, but he wasn’t quite asleep. When I laid down he opened one of his eyes to look at me.
“You know you should have taken me with you, right Iori?” he said. I shrugged.
“I needed to be alone. I already got the lecture for it and I came back ok, so I don’t see what the problem is.”
“It’s the fact that you could have ended up not coming back ok, Iori. I don’t want to fight with you about it, I just want you to be safe. What happened to your reliability?” I groaned. This had been a bit of an argument between us recently. Our definition of reliability was completely different. To me reliability was being somewhere when you said you would and such, but still being allowed to do your own thing. His reliability meant that I never lied and I never screwed up. I was always there if you needed me, no questions asked. The fault with his definition was that I’m still a human and in being a human I had the right to have a life also. If his definition of reliability was the right one then I never should have been given it and maybe that was why it was taken away today.
“I believe that its currently in Jyou’s arm, but I may be wrong. You’ll have to ask Gennai to find out for sure.” Armadillomon stared at me for a minute, then shook his head and closed his eyes. He wasn’t happy with how I was acting and I wasn’t happy with the way he was. He said I wasn’t who I used to be and I said he was becoming too much like my mother. Needless to say him and I hadn’t been talking much, but what I was doing was my business. Being under so much stress at the dojo, school and home wasn’t working for me and then I may have hit my rebellious teenaged years early due to being chosen. He may not like it, but being alone was the best way for me to sort through it all, even if it made me unreliable.
I turned over and snuggle into my sleeping bag, no longer wanting to think about Armadillomon and our constant bickering. There was always tomorrow to worry about that and for now I wanted to sleep.
A/N: Yes, Iori is a little different than when he was 8. I know it seems a little OOC, but I promise I’m going to tie all of this together and make it work. One more chapter this update, hit the next button.
