Chapter Four: Painful love

I just stood there fighting back the urge to scream. If I had just a little bit more time I could reach Takuya and bring him back. That is...if I can.

"Kouji, Kouichi, are you guys all right?"

I turned my head to see the others running up with concerned looks on their face's. That's when something caught the corner of my eye. I turned to see that my brother had his head down, looking slightly guilty.

"Kouichi, what's wrong?" I asked putting my hand on his shoulder.

"You're mad at me for getting in the way..." He finally said.

I couldn't help but smile a little and giving his shoulder a light squeeze.

"I know you were trying to help and I do appreciate it..."

"Are you okay?" Izumi asked.

"Yeah," I breathed out, looking to where Flamon ran off.

"That's good news. When we heard screaming, we came as quickly as we could." Tomoki said with a sigh of relief.

I couldn't help but continue to look where Flamon ran off. *All your brother needs is a little Fractal Code Digitize!* Yeah, but it's not that type of purification, I told my self. I have to find him though, I have to get him to remember! Without even thinking I ran in the same direction; pulled out my D-tector transforming into my beast spirit.

"Kouji, come back!"

I'm sorry brother, but this is something I have to do alone. It's the only way so they don't get hurt or to have someone say that I need to purify Takuya. I want to try and get to him first before that happens.

Slowing down to a walk; I looked around. The land was so bare, no life, no trees, no nothing. Come on Takuya ... where are you? With a sigh I picked my pace to a run again until something in me stirred for a moment. I stopped briefly, feeling a chill run through me. I turned my head to the right: nothing. I turned my head to the left, and still nothing. I looked straight ahead, and my eyes widen to see Agunimon, his eyes holding no sign of life.

I backed away slightly as he walked toward me. He looked as though he was ready to use his Fire Darts attack. I dodged out of the way as quickly as I could, as he used his attack. I looked into his eyes again to find nothing but emptiness in his eyes. Cherubimon must done something worse to him ...like he doesn't have-

I was so much in thought that I didn't realize that Agunimon had transformed into his beast spirit as well using his 'Wild-fire-Toonami' attack. Before I knew it, pain shot threw my body as I felt energy leave me. I fell to the ground feeling that I had no energy left at all, realizing that I was no longer in my beast spirit. The ground shook a little as BurningGreymon walked toward me.

I tried to move though but my body didn't even have the energy to roll out of the way. I looked straight into his eyes as he picked me up roughly. I squirmed as best as I could, as he tightened his grip on me.

"Takuya ..."

"Ebony Blast!"

I turned my head to see the others in their beast spirits and dark energy heading right for BurningGreymon's shoulder. I was thrown to the air, just as BurningGreymon was hit really hard on the shoulder. That's when I realized that I was going to hit the ground. I closed my eyes waiting for the impact. I felt arms catch me instead, and opened my eyes to see that it was Zephyrmon who had caught me. She flowed to the ground as I turned my head whispering 'thank you'.

I didn't look back their direction until I heard BurningGreymon cry out in pain, and pivoted quickly feeling great pain and betrayal. I couldn't move though, as the others fought with all their strength against BurningGreymon.

After a moment, I still couldn't move. I had to though, I had to stop the others. It wasn't until they had got BurningGreymon's Fractal Code to showing when I got myself to move.

I ran up and stood in front of the fallen Digimon...the others stopped, looking at me with surprise.

"What are you doing?" I choked out trying to look mad as I could.

They all just looked mournfully at me when I heard a dry scratchy moan. I turned around to see that BurningGreymon had changed back to Flamon. By great impulse, I ran to the injured Digimon and scooped him up in my arms causing him to let out a whimper. Sorry Takuya but I'm not going to let the others do this to you.

"Kouji, I know you don't want this anymore than we do," said Zephyrmon sadly.

I was about to say something when I felt a shaky hand toward my throat. I looked down to see Flamon was trying put his hand around my throat, one eye opened and other half opened still showing nothing but emptiness. I pulled his upper to mine rocking him back and forth.

"Takuya ...I know you're in there somewhere ..."

Flamon struggled a little, I wasn't going to give up though. I know that Takuya was in there somewhere and I was going to help him find himself.

"Hurt ---"

"What hurts?" I asked pulling away from him slightly.

I hope I didn't break anything. He then tried to reach for my throat again, with a shaky hand. My brother came up and took Flamon's hand.

"Takuya ...if I can fight the darkness you can too."

Flamon struggled in my grip as the others came running, with slight concern in their eyes. Flamon struggled though, looking as though he was tightening his grip on Kouichi's hand.

"I know you're not a quitter, Takuya!"

After a moment of struggling, Flamon stopped breathing hard.

"We better fix his wounds and out of the open. Cherubimon-by now-will come after us." Kouichi said, looking around and letting go of Flamon hand.

I nodded my head and looked back down at Flamon-to see that he had passed out. I pulled him close again feeling the hope rise with in me again. I'll make sure that you'll see the light, my love.
