**Act 1, Scene 3: LaunchPad McQuack Syndrome?**

*Mimi- "Does she really *have* to be here?"*

*Matt- "Mimi, she's a pivotal figure. Without her, the whole story really wouldn't work!"*

*Mimi- "I know, but she just...well, she just gives me the creeps."*

*Matt(squeezing Mimi's shoulder)- "Hey, don't worry. I won't let her harm one pink hair on your head."*

*Gabumon-"Geeze, and you guys complain about us?"*

*Matt(blushing)- "Shut up! C'mon, c'mon! We gotta show to do!"*

*The darkness is pulled away to reveal the Empress in the new royal nursery. She is cuddling a bundled object-the Royal newborn. Ken is *

Ken- And so it came to pass that the Emperor and Empress were blessed with a beautiful daughter. Overjoyed as they were, they were true to their word they made with the three sennyo, and the Emperor's finest and fastest were dispatched to deliver the invitations to the proper guests. True to *his* word, the Emperor's trusted Advisor prepared to invite the Dark Demon Queen.

Tai- "You *will* be careful, Advisor? The Demon Queen is well known for her trickery."

Ken- "And her temper. Do not fear, I will return to you, my lord."

*He bows and walks off stage. The Emperor walks towards his new family, but stops as a ear-splitting scream is heard. Two guards enter, carrying the Advisor, who is near faint with pain. His leg is dragging. Another guard enters, holding a struggling errand boy*

Hawk- "Let me go! I beseech you! I did nothing wrong!"

Bakemon#1- "Is that so? Then why is the Royal Advisor injured?"

*At the word 'Royal', the errand boy whimpers, now in fear of his life.*

Hawk- "I did nothing..."

Tai- "Injured?! Advisor, what has happened?"

Ken- "Forgive me, my Emperor. *harshly* I was walking down the hall when this 'peasant' boy ran into me. I did not regain my balance in time and fell down the stairs."

Sora- "Advisor! I understand you are in pain, but it is unlike you to be so venomous!"

Ken- "Forgive me, my lady. But I fear my leg has been broken, and that means I must break my word to you, my greatest dishonor. *he hands Tai the rolled parchment* Someone else must deliver this."

Tai(angrily)- "You! Boy! Do you wish to redeem yourself, or do you wish to rot in the dungeons?"

Hawk(terrified, still bound)- "Why, good Emperor! I wish to put myself in your graces again! I am only a lowly errand boy, please have mercy!"

Tai- "You are the cause, and so you shall be the cure. You will deliver this to the Demon Queen. *Immediately*!"

Hawk- "<gasp>The Demon Queen? But she will surely eat me roasted in a lovely béarnaise sauce!"

Tai- "Really? Well, I prefer my chicken sweet and sour-if you catch my drift."

Hawk(flapping out of the guards arm's and snatching the invitation)- "What I meant was, I would be *honored* to deliver such an important document!"

*Hawkmon flies out of the room, but not before crashing into another guard, who curses after him*

Ken(softly, so the Empress does not hear)- "Your Majesty, I fear I have a bad feeling about this."

Tai(grimacing)- "So do I, Advisor. So do I..."

*Hawkmon- "Ugh! This is so humiliating!"

*Yolei- " Hey, at least you got a part! I'm just the sound technician!"*

*Hawkmon- "At least *your* dignity has been spared!"*

*Yolei- "Lighten up! You're doing great!*

*Hawkmon- "You really think so?"*

*Yolei- "Knock 'em dead."*

*Ken is alone on stage, illuminated by a single spotlight*

Ken- And so, with his trusted Advisor out of commission, the Emperor had no choice but to entrust the sacred document to the errand boy.

*The stage behind him lights up dimly to reveal a pastoral scene. He walks over to where the 'road' forks. Another spotlight reveals a sign that post two arrows. The arrow pointing west reads 'Queen of Light'. The other reads 'Queen of Demons'.*

Ken- "And as it turned out, the Emperor and the Advisor had every right to be mistrusting of this simple fool."

*The lights brighten, and Hawkmon comes barreling in singing. His flying is erratic, and he dips and dives over the audience.*

Hawk(a bit off-key)-
"~Oh, I'm an errand boy, yes it's true.
But what I'd give to be me, not you.
For I'm the Emperor's right-hand man!
When I ask, he says 'I'm the man!'

When I'm done,
I'll have some fun!
And tell *him* how the country's run!

'Cuz For I'm the Emperor's right-hand man!
When I ask, he says-Ooof!!"~

*Not paying any attention, he flies straight into the sign, knocking it over*

Hawk- "Oh dear! What idiot put a sign in the middle of the road!"

*He stands it back up, but as he is facing the audience, he puts the sign in backwards.*

Hawk(standing back)- "Why, isn't that convenient! All I have to do is follow this road to the Dark Queen's castle. And the quicker, the better!"

*He flies off in the wrong direction, and the light fades back to Ken*

Ken- "What will happen when the Demon Queen does not receive her invitation? Only time will reveal how merciful her heart will be."

*He solemnly walks off stage*

*Wormmon- "Are you okay Ken? That sign nearly fell on you."*

*Ken- "I'm fine."*

*Hawkmon- "Sorry Ken. I got a little dizzy from all those carefree spins!"*

*Ken- "Don't worry about it. You were fine. A great performance."*

*Matt- "Okay, everybody get ready for the party!"*

*Tentomon(whiny)- "Why can't I just fly?!"*

*Matt- "We went over this! We can't cut holes in the rentals!"*

*Gatomon- "Shouldn't somebody go get a hose on the lovebirds?"*

*Mimi- "Don't worry, Gatomon. I sent Gabumon to the costume closet for some accessories!"*

*Matt(panic-stricken)- "The costume closet?! But that's where I sent Palmon!!*

*The duo stare at each other in horror for several moments, then tear down the hall at warp speed, screaming for their partners*

*Hawkmon(eyeing the director's chair)- "Ah well. I should think I should try to restore a it of my dignity."(pulls out Yolei's beret and begins to shout through a megaphone) "Places! Places, everyone!"*

*Palmon- "Did I hear someone calling my name?"*

*Hawkmon- "I thought you were in the costume closet?"*

*Palmon- "I was a few moments ago"*

*V-mon(comes flying down, entangled in the electrical cords he'd been helping Daisuke with)- "Whoa!"(he stares at Palmon while hanging in mid-air) "What's that mark on your neck?"*

*Palmon(blushing and trying to nonchalantly hide the mark) "What mark? I don't have a mark."*

*V-mon- "Yes you do! Right there, under your collar!"*

*Daisuke(singsong from the catwalks above)- "Ooo, Palmon's got a hick-ey! Palmon's got a hick-ey!"*

*Palmon(embarrassed)- "Nuh-uh!!*

Hawkmon(irked)- "Enough of this childishness! On with the show!"*

**Act 1, Scene 4: Good Help Is So Hard To Find**

*The stage is merrily lit, and musicians are playing a bright cheerful tune as the guests of the Emperor and Empress enter and bow. The Advisor stands attentively by an elaborate bassinet holding a peacefully sleeping Nyokimon. He stands ramrod straight, the only clue to his injury is the simple yet noble cane he leans on.*

Guard: "Announcing the arrival of King RedGreymon and his son, Prince Dragon!"

*The Emperor rises joyfully as the large T-Rex enters. At his heel, a small Koromon*

Tai- "King RedGreymon! It has been far too long! Wasn't it only yesterday you were kissing your blushing bride?"

*The King laughs*

Koromon- "Yuck! I hate kissing!"

Tai(patting the Prince's head)- "And this is the little Prince?"

Koro(proudly)- "I may be little guy now, but someday I'm gonna be *real* strong!"

*The two rulers laugh as the Empress walks up and bends to the Prince's level*

Sora- "There's someone who I think might want to meet you. Shall we go see?"

*She picks him up and carries him over to the bassinet*

Koro- "She's smaller than me!"

Sora(laughing)- "Yes, but someday soon she will be big enough for you to play with."

Koro- "Will that be very long?"

RedGrey- "Don't worry son. You'll have plenty of time to get to know each other before the wedding."

Koro- "Huh? What wedding?"

Advisor- "Yours. You and the Princess are betrothed as of today."

Koro(panicked)- "But I don't wanna get married!!!"

*the adults all laugh heartily*

Sora- "Don't worry little one. That day will be far in the future."

Koro(meekly, hopefully)- "Very, very far?"

Sora- "Yes. Very, very far."

Koro- "Phew! What a relief!"

*The whole room bursts into laughter, and toasts and cheers are made to the 'happy' couple*

Guard(slightly confused)- "Announcing the arrival of the Queen of Light and the King of Hope!"

*Daisuke- "But she's *my* girl!! Ow!!*

*Yolei(Smacking him hard on the head)- "Davis!!"*

*The Queen enters amidst confused murmurs on the King's arm, who looks a bit dubious*

Tai- "What's *she* doing here?"

Gato(deeply concerned)- "Emperor, you *did* remember our instructions? I don't recall telling you to invite them."

Kari(hurt)- "What's this? I, sister to the Emperor and aunt to the newborn Princess, am not allowed to attend a gala in her honor? Brother, have I done something wrong?" *she is near tears*

TK- "Yes, just what is going on here? You would rather be with unknown fae than with your own family? Well I'll have you know we were invited like everyone else!"

Ken(dangerously low)- "May I see that invitation, Your Majesty?"

*He takes the outstretched invitation and begins to read. As each silent moment passes, his eyes grow wider and wider. Finally, he lowers the letter with shaky hands and addresses the King*

Ken- "My apologies, Majesties. This invite was not meant for you."

Tai- "You don't mean....?"

Ken- "The errand boy screwed up big time."

*As if to accentuate his words, dark mist appears in the center of the room, warping everything ugly, and freezing the other guests where they stand*

LadyDevi- "Hello, Sweeties. Surprised?"
