Digimon Fan Fiction ❯ Slide Off the Moon. ❯ How They Meet. ( Chapter 1 )
Disclaimers: Don't own Digimon.
Warnings: Kensuke. It's late at night and I'm in one of my moods. Sometimes I think I'm an angst girl at heart. If you knew what goes on inside my head sometimes.
If life was supposed to have a purpose, Daisuke Motomiya was probably the last person to be informed of this. Or so he thought. Things in life had purposes at least, if life in general did not. But when you're alone inside an empty apartment, bare of any human inhabitants instead of a family of four, say for the family cat curled up on the red head's belly who was the only being in the house to display Daisuke with affections, with just your thoughts to keep you company on a rainy day. Rainbows and smiley faces are the last things going through your mind.
" Looks like it's just you and me, love, " Daisuke spoke up suddenly. Sway, the multicolored shorthaired cat, peered at her human through slanted eyes. She yawned and turned over, falling off Daisuke's warm body and onto the bed besides him. Sway stretched and curled up next to her human, purring. Daisuke smiled and ran a hand down her slim body, petting Sway always made him feel better. Sway was the only living being Daisuke ever addressed with affection, calling her love and other 'pet' names humans would normally reserve for another human. Darling, sweets, pretty thing, or whatever Daisuke might have called a boy/girlfriend.
A little of that self-loathing that came with Daisuke's dark moods shimmied to the surface. Daisuke frowned and rolled out of bed, stretching like his cat, and left the bedroom to leave Sway to her napping. He entered the empty kitchen, chocolate eyes scanning for the twenty-first time that day of the note left by the boy's family telling him they would be out for the evening, and opened the fridge. Various food items greeted the boy, his mother had just recently gone shopping and a full bottle of Dr. Pepper greeted Daisuke. Like a drunk to his booze, Daisuke poured himself a full glass and lost himself in the unique flavor of the beverage. The caffeine and sugar of the non-diet soda would later induce a happy buzz for the boy, but at the moment Daisuke sipped his drink and sat on the counter, something he couldn't do when the other members of the household were present. His mother and sister would scold him and his father would look displeased.
" Do things in life serve a purpose, even if life does not? " Daisuke asked himself, his earlier thought coming back to him. The burgundy haired boy glanced down at the black, elbow length arm warmers he wore at all times, even on the hottest day. To the public eye they were nearly a fashion statement of his adolescent individuality, were in reality they prevented Daisuke from slitting his wrists. Even in his moments of depression Daisuke knew suicide was not the answer and wore them to make sure he never gave into that temptation.
He had thought about going to see a therapist, but Daisuke had a feeling his family would loath having angst inclined son who was just going through a 'phrase' according to them.
Sway purred up against her human in the kitchen. Daisuke looked down at her and hopped off the counter. He scooped her into his arms and headed into the hallway. Unlike most cast, Sway was happy to perch herself upon Daisuke's shoulders and stay in the boy's company when he would go out for walks around town to clear up his head. It could be said she knew what he was thinking at times and watched over him when he went for his 'walks.'
" Can't stay another minute longer in here, Sway darling, " Daisuke said to his cat. Pulling on a thick, black sweater and grabbing his umbrella, Daisuke took the streets. It was quite a sight to some to see a cat perched perfectly upon a boy's shoulders in the middle of a rainstorm.
Daisuke's feet led him to the park near by his apartment complex. The red head took a usual path into the woods. Even in the rain the surrounding trees and green life offered Daisuke beauty and charm. Daisuke felt his spirits rise. Nature always showed him a purpose to life. The secret miracle.
Sway growled low in her throat by Daisuke's ear. The red head turned to look at her just as she leap off and disappeared into the under bush in search of whatever this strange, out of place thing that was approaching her human.
" Sway! " Daisuke cried out, fearing that his cat would get wet and sick in the rain. He was about to enter the woods in search of his missing feline when a soft chuckle caught his attention. Daisuke looked up in the direction of the soft, oddly pleasing soft, and found a person perched untouched by the falling rain on a high tree branch behind him on the other side of the path.
Daisuke caught himself staring at this stranger. Chin length indigo hair and un-usual purple eyes complimented ivory skin. The person was dressed in attire right from one of Daisuke's fantasy mangas of eye-catching hues of blues, purples, and colors in-between. Silver with red gems trimmed the beauty's dress. The indigo haired one was staring at Daisuke with his chin perched in black-gloved hand and regarding the boy with a smile.
" Hello, " a gorgeous voice greeted him, " I have many names, but you may call me Ken, my fiery ruby. "
A million of questions filled Daisuke; just who was this Ken, how come he wasn't wet, who said he could call Daisuke his 'fiery ruby, but only one made it to the surface.
" What are you doing up in that tree? " Daisuke asked.
Ken answered him with a silvery laugh.
