Stronger: Trust Company/ True Parallels
Can you save Me
Or will you fail Me now
It's almost over `cause you're
Fading out again
Will you break Me
When you're holding Me down
I will escape you and I'll push
You closer to the ground
`Cause you're the one that's going down

Never gonna save Me
Can you just shut Me out
And now it's over `cause I'm
Stepping out again
Never gonna break Me
Just try and hold Me down
I will escape you and I'll push
You closer to the ground
`Cause you're the one that's going down

You want to tear Me down
You want to hold Me down
You can't control Me now
You cannot take Me out
You cannot save Me now
Because I'm stronger now

Chapter 4

Taichi came back to awareness with his head in someone's lap. For a few seconds he lay there pondering how he had gotten there before he remembered the encounter with Ken, Daisuke and Takeru. He bolted upright, or at least tried to, until the headache he didn't even realize he had came back full force. Tai lay there for another minute before squinting his eyes and peering up at a familiar face topped with blond hair. “Yama” he said before glancing around for a head of much loved red hair. “Shiro?” he questioned his present lover.

Yamato chuckled and answered Tai's half asked question “don't worry koi, as soon as Kou-chan woke up and made sure you and I were alright he went to find his first love¹ and ascertain how much damage the trio has wrecked on the Digital World.”

“And, what do we know?” Tai ask as he went immediately back into leadership mode.

“We don't know much; so far all we can say for certain is that our digivices and the younger kid's D-3s have been confiscated and that we are stuck back here in the real world. There is some kind of jamming signal preventing Izzy from getting a clear picture of what is happening over there. He may be able to break through but you and I both know that with the Kaiser's intelligence and Daisuke's imagination and near intuitive abilities that it will likely take a miracle to break through anytime soon.”

Taichi sat up much more slowly this time before leaning his head down on his koi's shoulder. “What's the team's status?”

“We're all here and much like yourself just suffering from bumps and bruises. The kids are taking the loss of their Digimon hard and Iori says that Armadillomon was deleted but an egg appeared immediately afterwards. All of us original Digidestined are taking Takeru's betrayal hard and Miyako is ready to tear the boys' heads off. Iori is being tight lipped about something; it may just be his upset over Armadillomon, but I don't think so. I think we should save that discussion for later though.” Yamato broke off from his status report when he noticed that Taichi was quiet and withdrawn, just the opposite of his normal exuberant self. “Hey” Yamato gave his lover a gentle shake “what's the matter?”

“You were right all along you should have been in charge. I've failed as a leader; I should have seen this coming and done something to change it. Now we have lost two members of our group to the enemy and almost all our resources. What kind of leadership is that?”

“Tai-koi no one could have predicted that TK and Daisuke would turn to the darkness and we had no warning about their attack. Those new weapons and the speed at which they were able to use them is unprecedented. No one could have done a better job than you have done.” Tai and Yamato looked up to see their other lover standing in the doorway.

“But” Tai began.

“Tai we love you but quit being stubborn” Yamato told the brunette firmly. “We need you clear headed right now, and whether you like it or not you are the best person we have to lead us.” The blond then leaned down and planted a very convincing kiss to his pondering koi's lips. Koushiro wandered over and after Yamato finished reassuring the brunette he took his turn. Afterwards the threesome simply cuddled together and enjoyed being close to the ones they loved.

Koushiro finally broke the silence “As wonderful as this is we do need to go check on the others and begin strategizing a way back into the Digital World. But first I wanted to know if either of you noticed what was going on between the three boys while you were on your rampage?”

“Yeah they were acting all evil, we've already figured that part out so what?” Taichi asserted.

“That's what I thought. Yamato I know you're not going to want to hear this but it's my belief that the three boys are already lovers.”

“WHAT!!!” Yamato exclaimed “how the hell did you come to that conclusion?”

“Well when Takeru first appeared he called Ken `love', and later during one of his speeches Daisuke let the endearment `Ken-koi' slip out. Also they were completely at ease in Ken's presence. Our two boys were not acting like they were being controlled, Ken gave no orders, they simply acted on their own. I hate to break it to you Yama-chan but your brother is following nearer in your footsteps than he knows” Koushiro snickered before sobering up.

Yamato pondered that for a moment then simply shook his head. “That's something to ponder another day, for now we need to concentrate on finding a way of getting my brother and Daisuke out from under the Kaiser's control. This may be just the motivation we need to finally bring that tyrant down.”

Taichi suddenly stood up and announced “let's get the others and have a meeting so everyone can give their impression of what happened, and then we can plan our next step.” Together the three lovers left to go make some phone calls.

After returning to their fortress Ken, Daisuke, and Takeru quickly dark spiraled their new captive digimon and secured the digidestined equipment in a vault near the Kaiser's control room. Then as Ken was preparing a program to open a semi-permanent portal to the Dark Realm his two compatriots went to retrieve their personal digimons from their holding pens. They were currently in their new bedroom trying to explain their new relationship with Ken after having removed the spirals.

“I don't understand how you can be friends with the Kaiser now; I thought you said he was evil TK” a confused Patamon asked.

“I know I said that before but I was wrong. Ken is no more totally evil, than Daisuke and I were totally good. How can I explain this so you'll understand” Takeru said in a frustrated tone.

{Let me try Take-koi} Daisuke mentally soothed his lover. “Veemon, Patamon do you remember when we let you watch those American movies called Star Wars?” Receiving twin nods he proceeded “and do you remember how I told you that we digidestined were like the Jedi fighting on the side of light and that the Kaiser was like the Sith who fought for the dark side of the force.” Again he received two nods “good I glad you remember. Well Takeru and I have realized that we were wrong. It's not about fighting for the light or the dark it's about finding the balance between the two. It's like the colors black and white, when you mix them together you get different shades of grey depending on how much white and black you use. Does any of this help you understand or am I just running off at the mouth again?”

Veemon spoke up “yeah I think I understand that part but that still doesn't explain why you're now siding with Ken against the rest of the digidestined. I thought we were all teammates?”

Daisuke looked at Takeru with his heart in his eyes “we love him Veemon, just like we love each other. Do you remember me telling you how I felt about Kari? Well that feeling pales in comparison to what I feel for Ken and Takeru. Plus there is the new connection that we three now share.”

“What connection is that Daisuke?” Patamon asked.

“It's a connection here” he answered pointed to his head “and here” he then pointed to his heart “but most importantly it's a connection of our souls. We are now soulmates in the truest sense of the word.”

The remaining digidestined gathered at Yamato's apartment for their meeting. It was the only place to safely have the conversation they were about to have without parents or siblings overhearing since Yamato's dad was still out of town. They had gathered in groups and were still trying to come to terms with the total rout they had recently received at the hands of their former allies and enemy. Sora and Miyako had Hikari wedged between them trying to console the younger girl over the apparent loss of her best friend and blonde headed crush, oh, and Daisuke too. Koushiro and Iori were currently huddled together comparing each other's observations about the battle. Jyou and Mimi were quietly hugging each other for comfort while Yamato and Taichi were quietly strategizing.

“Okay people,” Taichi said while rapping his knuckles on Yama's desk to get every body's attention “before we do anything else we need to get everyone's version of what happened in our last battle.”

Koushiro was the first to speak up “technically speaking, we got trashed. And something else Iori and I noted, they were barely even trying. Even if we can find a way back into the Digital World we're still no match for those three in their current condition. Until we find some way to counter these new abilities they possess we should not face them head on.”

Hikari suddenly broke into Koushiro's monologue “I want to know what that monster did to Takeru and Daisuke” she growled. “They sounded like they suddenly hated us. Yamato how could TK say such hurtful thing to you? I heard how they referred to each other, `Ken-chan', `Ken-koi'; I don't understand how this could've happened, and the darkness that I felt coming from both of them. What happened…” Hikari trailed off as she broke down crying.

Taichi spoke up again “that appears to be the central issue. Everything else is irrelevant until we figure out how the Kaiser was able to turn Daisuke and Takeru to his side. Hikari just confirmed that she feels darkness in each of them. Sora's already mentioned to me that she sensed a bond of love between the three of them. I'm sorry Kari but it's true,” Taichi said before is sister could protest “for now at least those terms of endearment appear to be authentic. Izzy-koi, Iori any ideas on how darkness can become tangled up in this apparent love triangle to produce the mess we have on our hands.”

Koushiro opened his mouth to answer when suddenly Yamato's computer turned itself on and after booting up the wrinkled visage of Gennai appeared. “Ah, Chosen children there you all are together already. Good, good that makes this easier. I have opened a temporary portal directly to my home. I have gathered much data from your last encounter with the ones calling themselves the new Dark Masters. You need to come right away for there is much you need to hear before you face them again.” Suddenly a portal materialized above their heads and they each felt themselves being drawn towards it.

“Damn” Taichi muttered “I never thought I would be going to the Digital World via this route ever again.” They hit the opening and suddenly found themselves sprawled out in the middle of a familiar room in Gennai's home. Gennai wasted no time directing the kids to the various cushions and chairs that had been spread around since their last visit.

“First I'd like you to know you have my sympathy over the loss of your digimon partners, though don't worry we shall free them in due time. More importantly right now though is the new threat posed by Ken, Takeru, and Daisuke; who by the way are calling themselves the new Dark Masters. I was able to gather some very good data during your battle and I have come to several conclusions concerning this new alliance. First and most unfortunately Takeru and Daisuke have definitely become, at least temporarily, aligned with the dark forces of the Digital World. Whether they chose this change or not I cannot say but they have undeniably come to accept it; I know this because of the second observation I was able to make. The three boys are now bound together by a very ancient spell. How they came across it I have no idea; nor do I know how they were able to cast it because according to every record I could uncover this particular spell has never been successfully cast. The spell itself is not categorized as good or evil though it does require the use of dark energy to initiate it. The spell uses love to bind the casters together on a spiritual level…”

Yamato butted in here with a question “So it's a love spell?”

“No, no my lad it's a binding spell that uses love as its connector. Some where along the way those three boys developed a connection, be it respect, admiration, or even lust, what ever the case may be, the spell took that basic connection and converted it to true love and then bound their three souls together.”

Again Yamato interrupted now becoming very concerned for his little brother “what do you mean their souls are bound together. That's not possible is it?”

“I meant exactly what I said; the spell apparently took their souls apart and recombined them into three new beings that each carries pieces of the others souls within them. They are no longer Ken Ichijouji, Takeru Takaishi, and Daisuke Motomiya, they are literally Ken, Takeru, and Daisuke, who together share a common soul that has been divided into three sections and placed inside each boy. Obviously they have retained their personalities but there may be some blending of the three going on that we have no data on. I unfortunately have discovered some thing even worse concerning the spell itself; once enacted the spell cannot ever be reversed without destroying all three boys, I'm sorry but they shall remain this way for as long as they live. Something that I don't understand though is according to the data I have uncovered on the spell all the participants must want the changes to take place, that is the main reason no one has ever successfully enacted the spell before. For some reason Takeru and Daisuke wanted this to happen.”

Koushiro spoke up finally adding more of his observations to the discussion. “Well this clarifies a lot of what Daisuke and Takeru were talking about before. During the pre-combat conversation Daisuke mentioned that Takeru felt that he had been living in your shadow Yama-chan” Koushiro held up his hand to forestall whatever comment his lover was about to make. The red-head might love the blonde with all his heart but that wouldn't enter into his consideration when he was contemplating a mystery like the one he had before him. “He talked about himself and Takeru being allowed to become their own persons and reaching their full potential. Takeru talked about no longer being burdened by his fear of the darkness, his loneliness, or your parents divorce; obviously that affected him more deeply than any of us realized.”

Miyako finally spoke up and for once she sounded calm. “Yeah, but that still doesn't tell us why either of them would actually agree to this lunacy.”

“Did any of you know that Daisuke virtually raised himself?” Taichi asked the group. “His parents want nothing to do with him and they either ignore him when he's at home or ship him out to stay with friends or relatives when it's convenient for them. His Mom hasn't cooked him a real meal in so long he can't remember the last time. They have never hit him or said anything bad about him; that would require they pay some kind of attention to him; instead they simply ignore him completely.” Taichi paused for a moment then went on to his next observation. “Did any of you younger kids know that Daisuke makes straight A's on his report cards and has for most of his school life? At first it was because he thought that maybe if he did a good job in school his parents might pay attention to him, though after he became disillusioned from that he continued to make good grades because it had become habit to study, plus he had no real friends when he was younger so he had plenty of time for schoolwork. Nowadays he keeps up with his academics because he plans on going to college on scholarships and never seeing his parents again.” Taichi was emotionally drained after giving his teammates a glimpse into Daisuke's home life; so he was grateful when he felt Yamato and Koushiro wrap him up in a hug.

“Izzy-koi and I only recently learned the full extent of Daisuke's misery when we confronted Tai-chan about what he knew, especially since Daisuke confides a lot of things to Taichi. We were going to pull Daisuke aside and have a talk with him about opening up to the group as a whole and dropping the clown act; then this happened and we lost the chance. Now it looks like we've lost the both of them” Yamato had to drop his head onto Taichi's shoulder to hide the tears that were welling up at the thought of what was happening to his brother and to someone he considered a friend.

Miyako was the one to speak up considering the state of shock that Hikari was drifting in after hearing about the changes that had befallen her best friend. “So Daisuke has been alone his whole life in a way that none of us could comprehend, he also feels a great deal of anger towards his parents for the way they have treated him, not that I blame him. His goofing around is simply is attempt at gaining the attention he is starving for. Takeru” she paused still trying to get used to calling the blonde by something other than his nickname “feels like he has been stifled by all his brothers accomplishments and that he can never compare. On top of that he has been affected by the loneliness of growing up without his brother living with him. Then there's Ken; we know nothing about his personal life unless any of you have anything?”

Koushiro spoke up this time “After we discovered that the Kaiser was Ken Ichijouji we did a little digging. It seems that Ken lost his older brother to a hit and run car accident several years ago. Said older brother was a true genius, and he made his parents a lot of money doing interviews and speaking appearances. Ken meanwhile was precocious but nowhere near the level that his older brother was, at least until he was about seven or eight shortly before the accident Ken suddenly began showing signs of true genius. After losing their older son the Ichijouji's pushed Ken to take his brothers place and this apparently caused Ken to form a deep resentment of his parents. He soon developed the superiority complex that we all have noticed and cut himself off from everyone. And while he may deny it this lead to his feeling lonely and ostracized from society.”

Iori spoke up for the first time “So to recap Takeru, Daisuke, and Ken all feel lonely and resentful of someone in their lives, and they each manifested these feelings by cutting themselves off from others in an attempt to stop the cycle, but that only lead to them feeling even more lonely and resentful of everyone else. I think we have found our connection but now the question is what do we do about it?”

1) His computer people! sheesh.

A/N: I'm not very nice to Hikari am I; one day I'm going to have to write her a sweet little ficlet to make amends.
